Booked a self-catering unit, but due to circumstances, builders were not finished with renovations. We were asked to move to a room with an en-suite and a small kitchenette. There were no washing up facilities, which made it awkward for self-catering. Management did assist with a portable braai drum, wood, crockery, and cutlery.
Very comfortable stay, easy to find, lots of hot water, good WiFi, and the hosts went out of their way to assist us.

We stayed at Katryns for 1 night. There was plenty of room to park our forest van without any difficulty - could just drive in, round a big bend and out. They were kind enough to give us power for the forest van's fridge. The room and bathroom were beautifully clean and tidy with EVERYTHING one might need. The bathroom was huge. We left early the next morning and got the best takeaway breakfast ever (with my specific dietary requests). I would definitely recommend Katryns and stay there again.

Such a beautiful guest house, very neat and clean, from the entrance to the room everything is so beautiful, big green lawn and many trees. The room was so nice and cool when we walked in, good linen. Safe area we went for a lovely walk and came back with the most delicious dinner. We were received very kindly until the staff are cute and very helpful, full DStv was a bonus and good internet. I would recommend Katryn's to every person and you will definitely see us again. Ps: Thank you very much for all the extras, chocolate, all the coffee to choose from, bottled water and the nice soap.
We received a friendly welcome and apologies for there being no water supply in the town. Loadshedding had affected Katryns borehole, so we were supplied with a number of 5L containers of water, which we were very grateful for. We were directed to a nearby pizza restaurant and enjoyed getting a sense of the friendly locals in Calvinia.

I expect a fairly high standard when I pay a certain amount for accommodation. But it really touches something special when one's expectations are exceeded. When we arrived, Chantelle had the best roasts, barbecue sandwiches and carrot salad ready for us on a set table and everything needed for a nice barbecue. There was a chocolate on our bed, fresh milk in the fridge and our bedroom and bathrooms were very neat, spacious and clean. Above all, the price of the food and accommodation was quite affordable. I would recommend Katryns for sure.

We were housed in an entire cottage with a bedroom bathroom and kitchen. Very comfortable. Our host was excellent. We had supper at Cielas restaurant which I would recommend to anyone passing through Calvinia. Wonderful stay.

It was definitely not what I'm used to. Everything seems to be so patched up. The location didn't appeal to me either.
Stayed for one night. Slept well.
When we arrived I showed the booking document. The lady who received us did not know what to do. After a discussion between staff, a barefoot lady took us through a dark alley to our accommodation. She unlocked the room, turned on the air conditioner and walked. When I asked about the restaurant she just said "go check". There was no internet connection and the TV was not working. Our vehicle was parked 40 meters from the room and was not safe. This was the worst accommodation I have ever booked. Would never recommend it. stay away

We always stop in Calvinia on the way to the Cape and have stayed the night at Katryns 3 times. The people are friendly and helpful. Rooms are nice and clean and the beds sleep well. We walked the Tankwa Camino. Chantel went out of her way to assist us with transport, early morning breakfast and the most delicious treat when we returned. We then arranged for breakfast for the next morning which was delicious really worth the effort, your stay was value for money and you slept well. Let me put it this way we drove later than planned in Calvinia to stay at Kartryns because so worth it will I go back? Definitely worth it.
Everything was clean, tidy and well cared for. For a group only staying overnight, cutlery in rooms would have been fine. Otherwise a recommendation to anyone else to choose Katryns with great boldness.

On arrival there was no indication of where to check in. I basically had to go find someone. She did not give me the room's key, I had to ask for it later, after which I was handed the wrong key. Did not offer to help with luggage. I am a lady and traveling alone with a 20+ kg suitcase. Recruit very busy with screaming children. Room is very light at night. On 2nd night (it wasn't 2 consecutive nights), I 'checked in' around 2am. Then about 2 hours later there was a knock on my door and I was asked to move to another room because they had accidentally put me in the wrong room. Breakfast was very nice both times.

I booked Kapokkie, with a king size bed and 3/4 bed and paid the deposit on it, but was informed after payment that Kapokkie is no longer available. Only a room with 1 double bed was reserved for us. Because the restaurant was closed for the time I booked, there was an arrangement for a dinner in the room, but even that was not prepared when we arrived at 19:38. The lady on duty in the owner's place ghosted and scrambled to move me and my son to a room big enough and offered to prepare us our dinner, but as it was already 8.40pm we had it from the declined, because we were tired and didn't want to wait so long for our dinner. The lady threw together a quick finger meal. Very grateful for that. The dogs barked all night in front of the bedroom window and did not respond when they were ordered to lie down, so our night was very long. Was really a very unpleasant experience.

We were warmly received after a long drive in a neat, clean and safe guest house. Everything needed is in the room and there was no need to get back into the car and go looking for dinner. A delicious dinner was served in the garden on the lawn and was really relaxed. We would recommend Katryns to any discerning traveler anytime.

We really enjoyed staying at Katryns. Chantel is a great host. She was present when we arrived late afternoon and the cappuccino served on arrival in the pretty garden was a lovely touch. Our room was spacious and comfortable and so was the bathroom. There was an unforeseen power failure in the evening. This was resolved within half an hour without any trouble or complaints. Breakfast included yogurt with fresh fruit and a generous English breakfast with delicious coffee. We will not hesitate to recommend the establishment to friends and family.
We would definitely recommend Katryns. We arrived very late in Calvinia, but this was not a problem for Katryns. The beds were of high quality, this is one of my most important criteria. We were also surprised with a delicious breakfast.

The service was friendly. Rooms were well equipped. We only booked accommodation, but wanted to cook meat. A facility was created and even wood was provided. However, it is uncomfortable without a sink in the room. A larger space to put refuse outside the facility will also be very useful.
The hostess was very friendly and spared no effort to prepare a special dinner for us. The breakfast was just as delicious. However, we found the guest house's atmosphere slightly chilly, probably because it was a cold evening and we were the only guests in the dining room. In places, the building and rooms on the inside need a bit of repair, although for some it may have a kind of charm. Everything was neat and clean and we slept well.
We went on holiday in the Kgalagadi from the Cape and spent the night at Katryns during our trip. I arranged with Claudia that we would arrive late and that we would like to have dinner. She received us very kindly and had a delicious lamb neck and vegetable dish and dessert ready for us. The room was neat, clean and nicely designed with modern furniture and a good bed. We have two small children and there was enough space in the room for them to play and run around. The breakfast was delicious! The cleanliness, friendly reception and good service during our stay were fantastic and we would love to return to Katryns.
All of this along with a delicious mutton neck for dinner.

On arrival we were friendly welcomed. The room and bathroom were spacious and neat. We asked for ice and larger glasses which they supplied right away. Enjoyed the breakfast. They also trusted us to do an EFT when their card machine did not want to work and we had to leave. Payment was done and they were happy.
We were looking for an overnight place where our car and trailer could be parked safely. We were warmly received by Petronella and helped to store our trailer safely. She was also kind enough to book us a place for dinner at the Blou Naartjie, which was delicious. The room is neat and clean and very well equipped, but very cold. The air conditioning was set to hot but was not very effective. I suggest that a heater should be purchased rather to warm the room. The breakfast was delicious!

During our stay, dinner was a problem. The hotel was then for a function other eating places were full. We were then directed to The Shack where there was a limited menu, although the food we ordered was exceptionally pleasant and cheap, the place itself will never see me again.

What an amazing stay. Our host was fantastic and catered to our every need. No doubt where I will be staying when we return. The accommodation is stunning and not a single detail is missed. I love finding gems like this is small towns. It's not always easy but this is definitely one.

Tired of plowing after a very intense year of hustle and bustle, we drive into the yard and are immediately warmly welcomed and made to feel at home in our lovely, clean, neat little place! Slept soft and well and just rested and sat down for a delicious breakfast, ready for our holiday! Many, many thanks for a precious piece of pampering in your Hantam!

Don't even know how to start - the list of pluses is long. Warm welcome, beautiful units, lovely garden, friendly staff, delicious food, nice visit around the fireplace, units are stylishly furnished and a lot of attention paid to decor.
Many thanks to LekkeSlaap (Claudette) and Katryns' hostess. It was a wonderful overnight stay. My husband and I really enjoyed it. People were very friendly and helpful and hospitable. Everything was immaculately tidy and clean and we didn't miss anything. Thank you very much, our children (Heinrich and Nicolette Heunis) and grandchildren are going to overnight there in October when they are on leave. It is the ideal accommodation for anyone and is conveniently located fairly centrally between Kathu and the Cape. Definitely worth 5 stars.

Unfortunately, Katryns did not meet our needs at all. The rooms are dilapidated and look run down and are not clean at all. The blinds in both rooms were broken and one room looked out onto a backyard full of cardboard boxes and junk. Although there are air conditioners in the room, they are not working effectively at all. We were freezing cold and hardly slept a wink. We got a small electric heater to help, but it kept "tripping" the power. Upon arrival, my husband found dirty clothes and used towels on the bathroom floor, which were quickly removed upon inquiry. However, it was clear that the bathroom had not been cleaned prior to our stay, so we did not use the bathrooms at all. The roll of toilet paper is not fixed to a holder on the wall, but stands on a shelf. So it falls off easily and it was dirty with a brown coating on the side, which makes one shudder. So we went to take out our own tissues to use instead. The only bright spot was the nice breakfast and coffee the next morning. It is sad to have to write such a negative review, but I would like the owners to work on the problems. My advice to all guesthouses: Sleep at least one night in your own rooms to get a glimpse "behind the scenes".

Katryns offers comfortable and affordable accommodation. The room was beautiful and tidy and we were very satisfied! We will definitely stay there again in the future!

The room assigned to us was neat and clean. The only negative comment is maybe a different type of room heating during the winter. The aircon worked well, but it is not our first choice of heating. Breakfast was on time and delicious, perhaps with the exception of one plate whose eggs were hard when they were ordered soft-turn.
Excellent accommodation. The garden took a knock because of the drought, looks a bit neglected!
