76 guests' feedbackOur stay was wonderful with great views and tranquility with nature. I definitely recommend if you're looking to escape for a weekend.
Our stay at Pied Kingfisher Cottage was nothing short of magical. The cottage offers the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. The highlight for us was the outdoor area—enjoying a braai on the patio with a breathtaking view of the mountains no photograph can truly capture. The remote location ensured complete tranquility and rest. Overall, Pied Kingfisher Cottage is a gem for anyone seeking a peaceful retreat in nature, with all the comforts of home. We can't wait to return!
This is an experience of a lifetime, eco farm with beauty, charisma, outdoor activities, hiking, fishing, superb location, completely safe, what a peaceful and superb time. Close to Montagu with salt of the earth people, helpful, social. I will definitely be going back.
Fantastic environment. Unit very well equipped. The walking routes were thoroughly enjoyed and otherwise just really chilled.
It's difficult to find the right words when individuals do most things above one's expectations. Kingfisher Cottages should be the benchmark to all farmers on how to preserve the land they own. The sustainable practices all round are truly inspirational, and Marco and Vivian have the foresight on what the future of the environment should be utilised.
We initially booked Malachite cottage, which is in fact not part of the main complex of cottages but part of the farmstead about 1km away. Due to a bit of luck and a spirit of generosity from Vivian and Marco, we managed to spend the second night in one of the new cottages (as seen in the photo above). The location, the views, the quality and design of the new cottages, the walks, the exciting aquaculture projects, the eco-pool, and our new friend Annie the German pointer, all contributed to a uniquely wonderful and tranquil experience.
Lovely and relaxing, went on super walks/runs with our Annie and the resident Annie. Great braais every night.
Yes, very nice. Beautiful place.
Very pleasant stay, nice setting.
We had a great time relaxing at Kingfisher Cottages. Unbelievably peaceful atmosphere in the mountains, the hot tub is lovely, spent hours in it, cold and hot. Would recommend the getaway weekend to anyone.
Good and perfect for couples.
See stars.
We had such a great stay at Kingfisher Cottages. The cottage is very very neat and fully equipped. Peaceful setting between the mountains with excellent views and wildlife. We'll see you again soon!
Stargazing, free-roaming a slice of heaven. This is the place for you. Lots of enjoyable hikes.
The stay was amazing, the cottage was beautiful and the views were incredible.
It was an amazing stay. Silence, nature, the most beautiful views. All that one needs. Clean and tidy, as well as romantic. We will definitely go back again.
Brilliant location, very quiet, surrounded by nature, 100% off-grid, very well designed and built Cottages with natural materials. In wintertime, the indoor fireplace works well and warms the cottage very efficiently.
The Kingfisher cottage is on a beautiful farm, the surroundings are very beautiful. Cottage is safe and very comfortably furnished. There is no TV and radio, WiFi was available. Was able to properly shut down and rest. The farm is safe, there are many hiking trails. Vivian was very nice and helpful. Extra bonus was the outdoor hot tub - very special to sit under the stars in the hot water. Wonderful place.
See stars.
We enjoyed the hot tub and the view thank you.
Would recommend taking a tall vehicle.
It was very impressive to see Vivian and Marco's farm with trout farming as a core aspect of sustainability. Although we were a little skeptical about the composting toilet, we are now convinced that it works excellently (without any sniffles!).
The downside is the eco toilet.
Surprisingly different and the ideal place to clear your head. The house is excellently located and very well equipped, while the service is of a high standard. A bit far from the main road and not everyone will welcome the access route, but for the person who values comfort and seclusion it certainly won't be too much to ask. The only "negative" as far as we're concerned is the composting toilet. We understand the approach and what the goal is, but it won't be to everyone's taste. Nevertheless, we had a great time and wish Kingfisher all the best for the future.
Really enjoyed the visit at Kingfisher Cottages, Langhoogte Farm. The children could ride bikes and play. The cottages are beautifully equipped with all the necessities! Wonderful views as you enjoy your morning coffee on the veranda. Will definitely go back again!
Remote and quiet and just a great place to leave all trouble behind.
Kingfisher Cottages was a real escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. This was Karoo at its best. All senses are enchanted. Sitting in a warm log fire bath when it's freezing cold, pitch black around you and the milky way so close, you feel your fingers can caress through it, then charges your batteries like few other experiences. Marco and Vivian were hospitable and their trout products, which you can buy on the farm, are of high quality. Go visit there, you know you want to!
Vivian and her hubby were super hosts! By far the best getaway we've had so far! It's been more than a year since we were there and I'm still raving about it!
We really enjoyed our stay. The eco-toilet was a bit strange for the children, but I appreciate that the place is eco-friendly.
We loved the isolated location, very friendly owners. Very clean and tidy accommodation.
Amazing stay! Would suggest no Wi-Fi for the full unplugged feel, but that is just me.
Lovely off the grid unit with all modern amenities. Hot tub is fabulous.
So nice and quiet and a beautiful view. Neat units and the owner is very helpful and friendly.
Here you can rest. The houses are so beautifully and comfortably designed with the most beautiful view of the field and mountains, you can just sit on the porch all day.
We had a wonderful weekend at the Kingfisher Cottages. The most beautiful cottage, neat, clean, comfortable, with the nicest patio and of course the most beautiful view. Thank you very much for your hospitality and kindness, we look forward to our next visit.
The furniture and fittings are simple but modern, clean and comfortable and more than sufficient. Don't let the composting toilet scare you, it is a normal toilet and has absolutely no smell, the only difference was that you don't flush with water you cover with earth. We couldn't stop looking at how the cottage was made, very impressive and cleverly thought out. The farm is just stunning with wonderful walks and their sustainable practices to be commended. Wow, we will be back.
The most beautiful, most comfortable houses in a breathtaking environment. Bird life is excellent. The fact that the house is wheelchair friendly is a bonus for me as a wheelchair user.
We had a great time in the beautiful eco-house! The peace, quiet and breathtaking surroundings were just what we needed! We will definitely come again!
Beautifully located cottages with a serene mountain backdrop, a cosy outdoor area and great dip pool for hot days, loved our stay!
There's 3 things that will always make my stays unforgettable, and I'm quite the attention-to-detail type person! 1- I need a great braai area with a view, 2- A Coffee plunger, 3- Comfortable beds! All 3 made the trip great, but the added extra's like the walking & hiking trails, the rock pools, the swimming pool, dirt roads for biking, kids play area, and the farm dogs and amazing stargazing made it so much more memorable! Oh and great braai wood!!!
It is a magically beautiful off the grid Karoo farm run by very energetic owners - a delight!
Nice break from the city on a real eco-estate. Fresh trout for sale. Good Wi-Fi. Nice hiking trails. Close to the Route62 Wine Route.
It was very nice.
Having a good time and the tranquility does wonders for one's soul. Also several birds to see. The hiking trails are certainly a plus with Annie, the farm dog as a guide, she is wonderful. The only negative point is the fridge/freezer is hopelessly too small, as well as there is only a fire pit and no braai drum or anything like that. Very uncomfortable to fry like that.
The eco cottages are wonderful. It was great to stay in buildings that run independent of grids, using solar energy. The views from the stoep are amazing. Peace and quiet and wonderful stars.
We really enjoyed the rock pools and eco pool! And the fishing was the children's highlight.
It is absolutely a gem of a place. The peaceful atmosphere and silence of only nature around you is all one needs to be able to relax. The unit where we stayed is spacious and wheelchair friendly and I, who am in a wheelchair myself, really enjoyed it and could do everything with confidence. I definitely recommend the place to anyone who just wants to have a nice weekend in nature and to all people who, like me, are in a wheelchair to go to the place.
We stayed for a weekend at Langhoogte Farm. The cottages are brand new and super eco-friendly (solar and gas). We ordered some fresh trout which was so tasty! My kids walked around the whole day looking & finding small fossils (clams) and was very sad to go. Would definitely recommend and be back. A fan in the rooms might be nice, but not sure if possible with solar energy.
Had a great time relaxing and fly fishing.
Beautiful setting, quiet and worth it.
Really such a beautiful place to escape to! It is so peaceful and a wonderful place to recharge. The cottage has everything you need, the surroundings are fun to explore, the hosts are really inviting and our fur kids just loved it! Definitely one of our favourite spots to explore!
Lovely place, the location is magnificent. I would recommend driving early and not venturing onto the gravel road late at night. But once you get there, it feels like heaven on earth. Quiet with a wonderful view, nice braai, nice bed. Ideal place to spend time with loved ones or family.
The owners were very welcoming, the cottage was clean and had everything you could wish for - and what magnificent views. A real destination to relax and reground yourself.
Very interesting and informative not your usual "place". Friendly staff. The song "Hear how loud the silence" now has new meaning. Safe. Day and night sounds that stand out with open night skies. Outdoor grill not quite suitable for grilling (too deep), a small grill drum may be the answer.
Great area close enough to town, but yet far enough to be secluded.
I can really recommend this place. Amazing location, stunning place and fantastic people. If you really want to break away from the city this is the place for you. Can not wait to go back.
It was a very nice and peaceful getaway weekend with our dogs and children. They were dying to run around in the open. The farm dog is so friendly and gets along well with our dogs. Was bitterly cold, but with the sofas open before the fireplace made up for it. The cottage is very neat and equipped. Owner was very helpful and friendly. The 4 of us will definitely visit again.
Conveniently located just a 25 minute drive into Montagu's mountains. Beautiful rebuilt stone house, carefully furnished with everything you need and a lovely log fire. Long, well-marked footpaths in the valley and uphill make it easy to simply walk far and even climb up to explore a rare leopard karee tree resting place. The sustainability of the farm was built with ingenuity and a courageous passion and long-term vision. Trout and pecan trees grow side by side, and Marko and Vivian's energetic commitment to walking lightly on the planet is contagious.
Of all the places I've been to, this is the best ever. Nothing that bothers you and the house is lovely and the people incredibly friendly. I will definitely come back. The best ever. Thank you very much.
We will return when it's even colder, Marco is an excellent host, their dog Savè is so gentle and well trained. All their livestock is living in clean, well-kept and maintained facilities. Their trout operation is absolutely hygienic and well priced. The cottage was spotless and very cosy with the fireplace. What an amazing place, food for the soul. I can highly recommend Kingfisher Cottage. Thank you very much for an amazing breakaway.
Just what we needed to recharge.
The cottage is comfortable and has everything that other self-catering cottages have. The property is on a solar grid, so no hairdryers, heaters, toasters possible. Road is good. Hosts are friendly and available as mush as possible. Would definitely recommend to anyone who needs to get away and be lost for a few days.
It was so nice to stay in nature and to go for a nice walk in the mountain with the owner's friendly dog Save. We really enjoyed it and got good friendly fast service. Thank you.
The cottage was lovely, the views beautiful, but if you're looking for a romantic, peaceful getaway then this is not it. Unfortunately the ad is a bit misleading as the 100 year old stone cottage is actually attached to the main house. The owners have young children who were playing, screaming and crying the whole week that we were there and the farm dogs are fed right outside the bedroom window. Not the isolated getaway we were hoping for.
The environment is very safe and there is also parking. There are hiking trails for people who like to hike. The cottage is very neat inside and out. Would go back anytime.
Wonderful getaway spot in nature. We always look for places that allow us to bring our dogs. King Fisher Cottage is ideal because the yard is completely fenced, only one group of guest on the farm at ohne time, and the friendly farm dog befriended our dogs. We were able to relax completely and enjoy the quiet of nature. The little house is very neat and clean and has everything you need. All the windows have netting to keep out the insects so you get a peaceful night's sleep. Loved the tour of the trout farmand bought delicious fish products. We will definitly be back!
Place is beautiful. Love the peace and quiet in nature. Went for a lovely walk with the owners' cute dog.
Enjoyed stay very much. The road directions are good. No problems. I would recommend it anytime.
The silence is fantastic. The stars are so close and bright it feels like you can touch them. Marco and Vivienne's hospitality makes you feel at home. There are nice hiking trails, and if you are brave Marco can teach you fly fishing, which is an experience. Be prepared to drive on dirt roads, and take everything with you for your visit.
Very hospitable hosts, lovely fireplace and outside braai pit. Large yard with fencing made it very nice for my two dogs. Very nice farm to walk around on and the dogs had a lot of fun playing with the owners' german pointer. A little hard to get out of there in the dark so clock in but sooner rather than later.
Stunning place and very comfortably equipped. Nice place to relax outisde with great walking trails.
We had a good rest for 4 days, walked in the veld and just relaxed. It is the ideal place to go and rest and just enjoy nature.
Here you can rest your soul. The charming, sparkling clean and comfortable stone cottage with a crackling log fire is just the place to spend a winter weekend. The unspoilt natural beauty and clean mountain air are just what one needs to breathe new life into you. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and will definitely visit again. Do not miss it!
Picturesque cottage and friendly hosts. We enjoyed that there is more than one nice day trip within easy reach of the house. Reserve fish in advance - it tasted forward. Otherwise, take food with you that you can grill or cook on a plate, because there is no oven/microwave. Will go again, peaceful and special place.
Beautiful farm with very hospitable owners. We will definitely visit there again. There is plenty to do for the whole family, even our dog Gunter thoroughly enjoyed himself.
At first glance, Kingfisher Cottage was idyllic. The house is very neat and spacious and the fireplace was very welcome. However, we were surprised that it is located right next to the main house because it appeared more secluded in the photos. This was not too bad for us, but our opinion changed on the first night. There is a generator that noises all night and there were mice on the roof and also inside the kitchen. The mice make a tremendous noise and if you like a mouse as much as I do it is impossible to sleep. There are also two large dogs that roam freely in your braai area and jump up at you when you are outside. The surroundings are beautiful and we enjoyed the hiking trails. But after the second night we couldn't wait to get to our own home. It was our first and our last visit here.
