Our accommodation offer 2 separate, comfortable, self catering chalets, which can be booked separately or together for larger groups or family holidays. Each chalet offers 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, a fireplace and a patio with braai facilities, overlooking the out-stretched lawn.
Kinmel Guest Farm is also a fully functional and active farm. Many a sheep bleating away adds to the farm’s peaceful and refreshing atmosphere. Only topped by trout meandering in the farm’s crystal clear personal stretch of the Bell River, a short walk from the chalet, making it a fly fishing hotspot.
Kinmel Guest Farm is perfectly situated at the heart of some of South Africa’s most spectacular mountain passes. Very near to the foot of Naude’s Nek pass and a mere 20km from the Tiffindell ski resort and mount of Ben McDhui (the highest peak in the Cape).
Daytime hiking offers a possible glimpse of the endangered Bearded Vulture as well as various other wild life and spectacular flora. Night time offers unparalleled star gazing and during winter the lawn can transform into a white snowy wonderland.

Very good service and hospitality.
It really is a resting place for soul and spirit. Thanks to Deon and Liana for your hospitality.
Great walk up the hill on the farm and has good access to Naudes Nek pass.
Literally just outside Rhodes with a nice view from a nice big porch.
The rural country setting was beautiful. The only downside to Kinmel is that the upstairs bedrooms, and particularly the bathroom, are cramped and the floors are very noisy indeed.
The lovely large veranda with the beautiful view and large garden chairs by the braai is delicious. If you just want to walk, it's just 2km to Rhodes. For the birdwatchers, the Naudesnek is a must just starting here.
Very friendly hosts and good for a one-night stay. The main issue is that the walls and upstairs floors are terribly thin such that the slightest movement anywhere in the house can be heard by everyone.
The accommodation was comfortable, unfortunately, the walks that were advertised to the river, were so overgrown you could not use them, and access to the river was almost impossible, leaving you with not much else to do. Wood was sold at R50 a bag which I thought was rip off, we did not pay more than R30 anywhere else on our entire Cape trip, and considering this was a farm with an indoor and outdoor fireplace could have been provided for free.
We had a very enjoyable one nighter at Kinmel Guest Farm. Facilities are good, nothing to complain about. Thanks.
Helpful hosts provided information on Naude's pass.
Nice view, well furnished, delicious barbecue and patio, will definitely go again!
The hosts were helpful but not obtrusive. The accommodation was well appointed. The juggling of kitchen appliances was a little different to home but we soon adapted. All in all we would stay again.
Beautiful area. Accommodation very good.
The old storage has been converted into housing, and this means that there are interesting things (such as a buffet cupboard as a kitchen cupboard). The area is only accessible by dirt roads, I don't know if I would want to go in snow or rain, it could be dangerous. Everything was spotless and the owners make you feel really welcome.
The surrounding area is beautiful and the farm was conveniently close to Rhodes. The trout fishing in the river has been fantastic and there are plenty of fish. The house was clean and met all our needs.
House well equipped, neat and clean. Experience the tranquility of countryside/farm life.
The description on the website reads: "accommodation is available in 2 separate, comfortable self-catering chalets which can be booked separately or together." Separate to me means separate, not contiguous with a thin separation between the 2. The accommodation will work if 2 groups know each other, but is disturbing if there are other guests next to you who you do not know at all. One can hear every conversation on the porch, as well as from the adjacent bathrooms. Furthermore, the wooden floors of the upper floor are a problem. The floors make creaking noises when anyone walks on them, or even turns over in bed. For light sleepers it certainly doesn't work. It is basic accommodation, and suitable for the price, but I think the description of separate chalets is misleading.
It was nice to be there.
Kinmel is not a 5 star venue. But because it is out of town the venue is quiet and lots to walk about.
Not much to complain about, not much to "rave" about either. The fridge needs to be looked at, even though it was winter nothing could really get cold. In the summer it will be a problem for sure.
Loft section with bedrooms is extremely awkwardly built and very cold. No heaters or warm blankets in rooms. Can also only use one device at a time in the kitchen, otherwise the power trips. Difficult to make food.
We were there with our 3 children and parents, what a peaceful place. Peace of mind Children could see the cattle and the horses and my youngest came to say "mum the rooster woke me up". Definitely worth it!
Beautiful place and the nature indescribable. Everything was just perfect.
Perfect place to break away and recharge, snow itself makes it more special.
Simple but fantastic accommodation with great views on a working farm. Great location outside Rhodes. If possible avoid the road from Naude's Neck and Maclear.
A warm welcome after a long day in this oasis of an area. We were really sorry that we were only there for one night, however we can always return.
Self-catering unit that has everything you need.
Spacious rooms. Beautiful spot to braai or picnic in the garden. Our 2 year old had the best time ever. We walked a different direction every morning and had a wonderful time. We didn't want to leave. Thank you for your hospitality.
Kinmel is a beautiful place to stay. Well equipped. Comfortable and clean and spacious. Had a friendly reception on arrival. Peaceful farm life, with sheep and cattle. Would definitely recommend as an overnight stop or even a few days stay.
We had a great time staying at Kinmel. The farm is just outside the town, beautiful views and nice walking paths. The cottage has mostly what one needs, but unfortunately we got very cold. The mountains were white with snow around us, but the blankets on the beds are terribly thin and there are no heaters. All the rooms are in the attic and it gets terribly cold up there. Fortunately, we had an extra sleeping bag in our van, otherwise we would have definitely suffocated. I feel for people traveling from afar they can have some coffee, tea and sugar, as well as enough wood, seeing that there is very little available in town. But overall a nice stay - very clean and tidy. Would give 5 stars if there were warm blankets!
Very friendly owners. Not easy to get there from the KZN side.
The owners should consider installing handrails at the bottom of the stairs.
Friendly reception from farm owners.
After a long day on the road we could relax on the spacious veranda. Deon and Leana very friendly and hospitable. Beautiful surroundings.
The accommodation was great and the area was stunning, surrounded by the most beautiful mountains. Very remote.
The place was clean and tidy. Walking distance from town. We also walked all the way along the stream after the host told us about the hiking trails on the farm. It was beautiful. Relax and enjoy the view.
The cottage is just outside Rhodes and on the farm. We were received very welcomingly and felt at home. Kinder was able to help give milk to a little hand lamb. There is a nice river with trout in it on the farm (ask for permission). The mountains are right around you and it's very peaceful. With mountain passes in almost all directions. The town of Rhodes is also a place to walk. Thank you very much Kinmel, we'll see you again.
Owner very friendly and helpful. It is a working farm and the farm sounds create a very peaceful atmosphere.
To see the moon so close to Jupiter, Saturn and Scorpio was a rare experience. The silence at night was absolutely recharging. The bleating of the sheep calling their lambs and vice versa was music to our ears. And off course the cock calling his hens to order at 04h00 also!
For a very peaceful break the ideal place. Beautiful mountainous surroundings, beautiful farms, little traffic. Accommodation very well equipped in kitchen, furniture, bed and bathroom facilities. Warm welcome, hospitable owners. The nearest place is Rhodes where there is little stock for sale, no shops as such, but places to eat. Many B&B offers in cottages. Beautiful farms in the area. We drove via the Naude Pass from Maclear to Rhodes, the road was untarred, washed out and bad at times, no other traffic but wonderful open green landscapes to photograph. We really enjoyed the stay!
When you leave it feels like old friends you leave behind.
The venue has all the amenities and is spacious. It is very good value for money and if in the area would stay there again.
Wonderful stay calm and break away from city life
Wonderful place to stay, quiet and tidy on a working farm, helpful hostess and absolute value for money. We will definitely come back.
Very neat accommodation. Fireplace was an absolute winner in the cold evenings.
We were kindly received by the host and every morning the house was cleaned and enough wood was provided for the cold winter evenings. Lovely view of the mountains.
We only stayed one night. We had a very nice stay, even though it was very cold. The area is picturesque.
Another wonderful farm experience with fantastic views of Maluti Mountains from the stoep.
The fireplace makes the house warm. It is fully equipped. We stayed there wonderfully.
Nice rooms, clean setup. Have to pay extra for firewood which lasts a max of 2 hours with the only heater being a woodburner and there is also rodents in roof making it difficult to fall asleep.
Why do guesthouses only offer the TV channels no one watches?
Drove across Naude's Neck into the snow. It was an experience. Had a lot of help with arrangements with mountain passes, regarding which are accessible and not. Lovely stay.
Beautiful environment, friendly host and hostess. Very neat, spacious unit that is well equipped.
Very basic accommodation. Clean. Old world. Satisfactorily equipped. Flies can be a problem at times.
Although we didn't spend much time on the farm, the accommodation was good enough for us for the purpose we booked it for, as we traveled quite a bit during the day. Kinmel is equipped with everything needed and we slept very nice and warm during this particularly cold time on a very comfortable bed. On our return from our day trips, we were able to walk around the farm and enjoy the exceptional fresh air and sheep with their new lambs. One night we thought it was lights that had been left on when the bright shine of stars and sliver of moon shined through the window. What an experience it was to view that splendor long lost to us city dwellers.
See stars.
Can recommend Kinmel anytime.
Kinmel Guest Farm is a gem in a beautiful setting. The owner was very friendly and hospitable and we immediately felt welcome. The accommodation also exceeded our expectations. It is spacious and well-equipped and everything was clean and tidy. We were delighted to visit the spacious sidewalk and further explore the beautiful area on foot and by car. The roads are sometimes rough, so it is definitely recommended to use a 4x4 vehicle, but the surroundings are breathtakingly beautiful and the people are very friendly. The lovely, historic town, Rhodes, of course, is just a stone's throw away and definitely worth a visit. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay there again.
A great place to stay in very comfortable accommodation with friendly hosts, great views and good fishing, when the rivers are not flooding!
Excellent stay. We had to make changes to our numbers a few times and the owner went out of his way to accommodate us all. Place is neat and clean. Met all our needs and will definitely use their service again in the future.

Kids had an awesome time. Never asked to watch TV or play their tabs. Were feeding lambs/milking cows then hiking and fishing.
Friendly people, enough space mixed with the baaing of sheep, calmly grazing.
See the stars.
The tranquility of the farm atmosphere and friendly farmers will give your soul rest.
The fireplace is a bonus! Friendly host who is always helpful. I am glad we stayed at Kinmel and was not disappointed at all that we didn't stay in town, because it was roomy on the farm with a beautiful view. Will stay there again, even though we were only 2 it is ideal for a nice group of people as well seeing as how there is enough space by the braai area.
This is the place to sleep over. My children enjoyed the visit to the farm and did not want to come back to Gauteng. Friendly, genuine owners. Uncle Willem and Aunt Wilma, thank you very much for allowing us to rest on your jewel!
We enjoyed our stay at Kinmel very much, the owners are very hospitable, the accommodation is excellent and the setting is beautiful. The drive over Naude's Nek and to Tiffendell was challenging but so worth it. We saw a very beautiful part of our country.
Calm overnight stay on a lovely farm with nice, short hiking trails. Willem and Wilma are the ideal hosts and make one feel so at home.
Willem and Wilna gave us a friendly reception even though we arrived later than planned. The house was very neat and comfortable. For future guests - remember that the units are above each other and the stairs are quite steep. Thank you - we had a lovely stay and hope to return one day.
Was freezing and we only stayed the one night, but we were cozy and it was possible to make a fire. I love the merino sheep! Didn't even hear them at night ... very peaceful!
Will come back again to enjoy silence and fireplace. Thanks again!
Lovely, comfortable accommodation from which we could travel to Tiffendel daily. Everything needed is available. Note regarding house and lodging... not food. Hostess went the extra mile to accommodate us for an extra night. Can easily recommend.
We had such a nice stay on the farm. If you are looking for a place to really rest, Kinmel is the place!
We had a nice time. The place was neat and tidy. We don't have any complaints. Wonderful fireplace in the lounge, we chatted in front of the fire every night.
It was an unforgettable experience. Rhodes is an incredible place.
Very positive experience and will boldly use LekkeSlaap and Kinmel again. Owner was particularly friendly and helpful.
Outside still needs finishing. Information about environment was precious.
Will definitely recommend to friends and family.
The guest farm is just outside Rhodes and beautifully situated. The surrounding mountains and natural beauty make it a special place. Lots of space for children to frolic!
The dirt road to Rhodes is not very good, but we had a great time on the farm.
There is not a gas station or auto bank on Rhodes. It would be good to warn prospective guests.
Generous reception, beautiful view, neat, clean and well equipped place.
The living room and kitchen are spacious, but bedrooms feel cramped. The bathrooms are spacious. Everything was clean and we slept well.
Excellent location for exploring the area, especially the passes. Rooms on the upper level are neat but small. (Tall people struggle a bit with the sloping ceiling and the walls are thin). The rest of the cottage was good and we had a very nice stay despite the small problems. The fireplace is a winner and warmed the place up nicely. The sheep lambing in large numbers was a special experience!
See the stars below.
Nice view of mountains, but bedrooms and upstairs bathroom very cramped and stairs very steep. Nice large covered patio with barbecue.
The countryside around Rhodes is spectacular. We wish we had been able to arrive earlier so that we could have done one of the walks described in the well presented information brochure in the cottage. The cottage is beautiful, spacious, comfortable and clean. The owners were friendly and gave helpful advice about which route we should take when we left the following morning.
We will definitely stay there again. We have been to Rhodes a few times and then stayed at other places, but will stay at Kinmel again in the future.
I would really recommend this lodge with its peaceful atmosphere to anyone wanting to stay overnight or even longer. If you want silence in nature, then Kinmel is the place for you.
Nice people, beautiful area. From KZN area, and recommend you do not take Naudes Nek pass. Took us 4hrs to travel 90km. Would've been fun in a 4x4.
