Klaarstroom Guest House
Klaarstroom Guest House
Klaarstroom Guest House
-
It is the ideal space in which to unwind, relax and get in touch with life's simple pleasures.
The house has lofty ceilings, wooden floors and French doors opening onto wide stoeps. The decor is simple and elegant; a blend of period furniture and clean lines, echoing the purity of the refreshing Karoo landscape. All rooms are en-suite with ceiling fans and heating. There are two double rooms in the main house as well as a twin room. In the converted waenhuis there are two rooms with an inter-leading door.
We offer hearty country breakfasts and home-cooked suppers and hope to remind our guests that simple food, well done, is one of life's great pleasures. Many of our guests leave having relived their childhood memories of the bounty and bonhomie of Granny's kitchen table.
Klaarstroom Guest House offers you a down-to-earth, authentic Karoo experience in a remarkable tiny village which has only 8 houses, a shop, police-station and 3 churches in the old part of the town. The Groot River runs below the town on its way to the mighty Meiringspoort gorge. The village nestles between sheltering koppies and the mighty Swartberg Mountains. It is no surprise that this special little place with its breathtaking scenery and tangible tranquility has been the setting for many South African films. Most recently, "Faan se Trein" (due for release January 2014) was filmed here and we had the privilege of hosting the actors.
Jeremy and Sharon, your hosts, love sharing their little corner of paradise with you and hope that you find it as restful and revitalising as do they.
We are an ideal, tranquil base from which to explore the Klein Karoo, Oudtshoorn is 60 km to the South West and the Great Karoo, Prince Albert is 50 km to the East and the Karoo National Park is 120 km to the North. Klaarstroom is also ideally situated as a stopover en-route to the coast from up-country or as a break in your trip between Cape Town and the Eastern Cape.

46 guests' feedbackKlaarstroom Guest House is a gem and by far our favorite accommodation in South Africa. The peaceful atmosphere, fantastic sunsets, and wonderful people are a treat for one's soul. The guesthouses are also close to Meiringspoort. Dinner is a must! Thank you very much, you once again made our stay extra special!
Jeremy and Sharon are super attentive hosts. We were spoilt with an excellent dinner by the fireside and again the next morning with a delicious breakfast. We had the whole house, a very cosy lounge with a choice between hundreds of books all to ourselves.
A very very nice guest house to sleep in.
It's like visiting good friends and so much more beautiful than in the photos! In Jeremy's words: "This is not a guest house, it's a house for guests. So make yourself at home". Thanks Jeremy and Sharon!
Very nice. Friendly people. Very peaceful environment.
The owner went out of his way to assist our stay, but sadly we won't return with mosquitoes in the room, no aircon, and no WiFi. The doors were difficult to open and close and are in urgent need of repair. The hotel across the road provided an excellent supper, DSTV to watch our favourite sport at the time, again with a very friendly and efficient service to boot. Klaarstroom is a nice place to be.
Just think communication could improve. Room door had no key, so I wasn't assured of any privacy. Many other persons slept over. Safety must be a priority. No information was given regarding doors being closed during the night. I wasn't sure if you could let your animals out. Is there an alarm? What time is breakfast in the mornings? Was there WiFi available? No protection for windows.
Great stay. Clean and tidy room. Delicious dinner and breakfast. Jeremy and Sharon are very friendly and helpful. We recommend the nice guest house. Our Kieterkat also enjoyed the stay. Thank you.
Jeremy and Sharon have a fine sensibility for each guest's specific need. They are a well-oiled and formidable team cut out to run a guest house successfully! Thank you guys!
A warm log fire only made the deliciousness even more delicious. Delicious dinner and breakfast, truly a home for any traveler.
I do not believe that words can adequately describe my stay at Klaarstroom Guest House. I arrived as a stranger and left with a whole bunch of new friends. Jeremy and Sharon are excellent hosts and their dinners are an absolute must.
Real Karoo home, wonderful garden with windmill and pool, and situated a few minutes away from the astounding Meiringpoort rock pass.
Fourth time we sleep in Klaarstroom Guest House. Jeremy and Sharon always go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Hospitality and a nice breakfast in the morning. Klaarstroom just lets you get away from a city environment.
Address before overnight stay. Town or hamlet represents nothing. The house was very old, but authentic. Furnished in old style and that belongs to it.
Very good idea to spend the night before Meiringspoort! Beautiful road in the morning, would have missed it if we had driven to Outshoorn the night before!
Nothing to do there, maybe if you stay a couple of days to visit attractions, but for overnight, not for me.
It's more like a homecoming than a place to spend the night.
Lovely stay and friendly and helpful host and hostess who made us feel very at home.
See stars.
A very interesting town with extremely friendly people. It felt like we had known the staff for years and really enjoyed visiting and eating.
My wife and I stayed one night on our way back to Johannesburg with our two little doggies in tow. This is the second year we have stayed in this beautiful guest house just north of De Rust and the Meiringspoort mountain pass. If you have never driven through Meiringspoort before, you need to do so. We rate it as the best mountain pass in South Africa - staggering views of sheer mountainous rock faces that dwarf you as you drive under them, a truly awe-inspiring experience. We frankly don't look anywhere else when booking accommodation in the area as Klaarstroom Guest House has everything that we need - large, clean rooms, ample space for our doggies to run around and explore, a splash pool to cool off, tasty home-cooked meals and wonderful, warm, personalised attention from Sharon and Jeremy who look after our every need. We don't see this as a stop-over. It is a destination to be enjoyed and this year was no different. We thank you both, Jeremy and Sharon, for a lovely time spent visiting!
Here your soul can rest! A wonderful stay with a soft bed, pure white bedding, fresh air and good food all in one!
Wonderful couple that run the guest house.
Thanks for all your help.
Lovely hosts, clean lodgings, peaceful surroundings, beautiful Karoo sunset, wholesome breakfast all served as a wonderful break from hours of driving over passes and through poorte - will request a night there again if nearby in the future.
Our stay at was absolutely amazing. Everything was clean and tidy and we were overwhelmed by hospitality. Besides a delicious breakfast, we also enjoyed a very pleasant dinner at the guest house, at a minimal extra charge. Another pleasant extra was the interesting bit of news about Klaarstroom, its people and its guest house. Feel free to visit Jeremy and Sharon at Klaarstroom Guest House to find out more. We highly recommend it.
I have seldom had such attentive service! One is made to feel as if one is at home rather than in an institution. The rooms are lovely, the house warm and welcoming and Jeremy and Sharon very kind indeed. The meals are excellent, especially breakfast. It's like visiting friends when one stays.
Very neat accommodation in a small town. Delicious dinner and breakfast. Hospitable owners.
What a great place to end the year. To sit under such open skies in the middle of the Karoo on New Year's Eve and the children can run around freely and feel safe. Lovely swimming pool that makes you feel like you're on a farm - everything about the guest house, the owners and Klaarstroom is just unforgettable and special. Will definitely visit again.
Our stay, food, hospitality, cleanliness environment was fantastic. I would recommend it to anyone. The most beautiful little town and surroundings. Jeremy and Sharon are incredibly pleasant and carried us all on their hands. We will definitely make a visit there again if we have to spend the night in the area.
The facilities available are clean and tidy. Farm effect with trees and windmill. Tasty food and reasonably priced. Can definitely recommend.
Sharon and Jeremy really ensures that you feel like old friends and not guests. This is Karoo hospitality at its finest! Do yourself a favour and visit Klaarstroom Guest House if your heading that way in future.
The owners go out of their way with their hospitality and the meals are daintily prepared and served. Both the beautiful house and the town have really interesting stories behind them.
Klaarstroom guest house is the ideal overnight stop on the way to Meiringspoort/George and close enough to Prince Albert for a day visit. Jeremy and Sharon are very hospitable and make you feel truly at home. If you are looking for peace and quiet away from the city's hustle and bustle, this is the place for you. It's like a home away from home. Don't expect TV and WiFi. There is cell phone reception. Breakfast and dinners were delicious. There is a swimming pool for those who want to cool off in the summer.
We had a wonderful experience at Klaarstroom Guest House. The swimming pool and peaceful atmosphere are something special. We really enjoyed the chats with the owners and especially their daughter. We will definitely visit again if the opportunity arises.
The host and hostess were very friendly and we immediately felt at home in the guesthouse. Parking for the caravan was a bit of a problem but luckily Klaarstroom's crime is apparently not a problem. Food was delicious and rooms clean but very warm. We had a lovely stay and will visit again (when it's cooler).
Ideal if you want to have a good time, and also want to explore Meiringspoort.
Nice clean and quiet Karoo accommodation on a long drive to the Cape.
There is so much history in the area. The movie, Faan se Trein, was made there. It was nice to find out and hear about it. I think the owner could pay more attention to the garden. It was so nice outside but the table and chairs were full of splinters and uncomfortable to sit on. There were also a lot of mosquitoes, probably after all the rain. Maybe it would be good if they spruced up the place a bit because they seem to be quite busy.
Very quiet village. Old building, but very comfortable for real Karoo atmosphere. Nice meals and very friendly hostess.
The place is something different from the average guest house. The owners are 'hands on' and particularly hospitable. We got a delicious full breakfast with filter coffee. It's quiet and tidy, although maintenance is required.
The room was good, the bathroom needs a lot of work with a stained bath and brick floor in places, If it is supposed to look old fashioned, at least finish it off. I went into the kitchen to put something in the fridge and the kitchen was just a mess and looks as though it has not been cleaned for weeks, The exterior ie. the garden is in dire need of maintenance and cleaning. After the write-ups that we saw we were actually worried that we were at the wrong place. The supper price of R125.00 per person is a rip-off, for a piece of chicken some vegetable and pudding. R50.00 would probably be more reasonable. Lesson learnt. Once bitten, twice shy.
It was an incredible experience, Sharon and Jeremy are great, I felt like I was at home. We just put pictures on Facebook and said it was a MUST for anyone coming that way.
