We had a wonderful stay. Hostess went out of her way to accommodate us when we indicated that we would be arriving late in the evening. It's located in such a beautiful rural area near Stellenbosch and a whole lot of good wineries! Very affordable! The whole apartment was open plan, so unfortunately there was no privacy for the "master bedroom".

The place just needs maintenance, the walls have a lot of water vapor on them which looks bad and puts you off.
We inquired ahead of time about the availability of coffee and WiFi to make sure before we booked, this was confirmed from the website. Website advertises: "Free WiFi is available" There was no WiFi in the residential unit, although outside in the wind and weather or in another building a woman who arrived there and informed us. We stayed there to do research in the cottage in the peaceful farm atmosphere and were therefore unable to do so. We had to drive every day to get a WiFi facility. There was no coffee or milk. The shower drain was blocked and the water pooled when you showered. The bath's hand shower lever doesn't work, so you tap the bath water with the hand shower, which results in a cold bath. Website advertises: "The cottages are partially cleaned every day of the week". There was no cleaning service of any kind for the entire period. Towels were not replaced after 3 days. The TV's KykNet channel does not work. After the load shedding, the alarm beeped the whole time. The double bed is impractically high and the mattress is not up to standard. My wife slept on the single bed. There was no question of hospitality. There is a panel heater in the wall with no power point to use it. There is an electric blanket with no power plug to plug it into.
The cheerful Elmarene soon made us feel like we were family.
It's an historical farm. A nice porch with braai area to relax and enjoy the fresh air and scenery.
Very quiet, you can rest well.
We just needed a place to sleep for one night while attending a family function in the area. Our room was just that sleeping area, lounge and kitchen all in one room with a separate bathroom. The four poster bed was very comfortable and had a heated under blanket which was great! The sleeper couch (for our 2 young children) had been set up for us prior to arrival which we appreciated as it was late. However, it split in half, width ways, during the night which left our children on the hard floor. When my husband reassembled it the next morning, he discovered there was a piece missing. The place was clean enough, but is slightly on the tired and grubby side - the bathroom has signs of damp on the walls and ceiling (there is no window, just an extractor fan above the shower). There was a limited supply of tea, coffee and hotel-style long life milk in tiny containers - enough for 1 cup of coffee each. All in all, the room served its purpose (except for the broken sleeper couch), but definitely wasn't worth R850; more like R600.
The cottages were everything we needed. We had a great barbecue there on Sunday evening and it was only 3 km from where we attended a wedding. It suited us perfectly. I would recommend it anytime. It was very affordable accommodation with everything we needed.
Klein Bottelary is a lovely quiet place away from everything but close enough to large centres. We thoroughly enjoyed the time. The place is neat, clean and comfortable. We were warmly welcomed. We're coming again!

We overslept for five days. There was almost no water for three days of this despite the fact that we reported it to the hostess. With one or two improvements to the availability of cleaning facilities (eg provision of a broom, emptying of bins, cleaning of braai area etc.) Klein Bottlery could turn into a top quality self-catering unit.

Elmarene received us warmly and is very willing to help where necessary to make it enjoyable. The accommodation is typical cottage accommodation, makes you feel at home on the farm. The self-catering is only limited to a two-plate stove and microwave, so you can't really be self-sufficient.

Pleasant experience being on a farm so close to cities without being affected by the city noise. Would recommend to a couple travelling without children as the sleeper couch was extremely uncomfortable for our two teenage boys. Sadly, the DSTV didn't work so they missed out on the cricket viewing. Elmarene tried everything in her power to rectify it, but we had to admit defeat. All in all a good location from which to access Stellenbosch and environs.
The farm is unsafe. Owners are far from accommodation, don't even know what's going on. It's a big house, they can provide more kitchen equipment, replace lights that don't work and work on safety. Apparently an alarm went off (according to security), owners didn't even know about it until we told them. Security on plans (we don't even know if it was really security on plans), turned the front door knob and peeked in through the window. We have never felt so unsafe. All respect to farmers on farms, but if you make it a guest house, make sure you have the right security.
We enjoyed the stay but Wi-Fi was not included as advertised which was a bit unsatisfying.
Actually we didn't spend much time there as we went through for the oval track SAs in Kuilsrivier, but it's a lovely place.

Lovely rural setting, well located near Stellenbosch at a reasonable price for the area. The farmhouse is now a reception hall and the guest houses are placed around the old farmstead. The hostess was very friendly and helpful - she also gave us some of the farm's wine to taste as it is not commercially available. The farm is quiet and relaxing. The cottage looks exactly as promised in the photos - functional with everything you need. My teenager only missed the WiFi - but survived the lack of it and enjoyed nature. There is sufficient security and we felt safe walking around the farm and relaxing around the barbecue fire in the evening. We will definitely stay there again.
Klein Bottelary is centrally located, yet quiet and peaceful. The farm is beautiful and the units spacious and well equipped.
The place is very centrally located, the road, however, needs attention. The owner resolved any problems we experienced immediately. The two-plate stove didn't work and was replaced, after I showed it to her. The toaster was very dirty. I would put the stove on a separate cabinet next to the refrigerator. The owners are very hospitable people and I would recommend their place and visit again, but I'd rather stay in the bigger unit.
The reception was friendly and the cleaning service was good. Water pressure in the bathroom was a bit challenging. It was one of the few places I stayed in that had a decent and neat fridge, excellent. The facilities are safe and I will stay here again.
