73 guests' feedbackWonderful overnight stay en route to Bloemfontein from Cape Town. We could only drive from Cape Town after 17h00. Touwsrivier is close but also far enough for an overnight option. The cottage was ideal with everything that could possibly be needed.
I was pleasantly surprised by the rooms where I spent the night. Everything I needed was there, everything was neat and clean. My vehicle was safely parked and it was quiet and peaceful. I can recommend the rooms.
Very nice, just been warm. Aircon was not working properly.

I certainly had a great time staying at Komkyk. Their service is great. Many thanks to the friendly people and staff of Komkyk who made it pleasant for me to stay there for 5 nights. I slept well. I would definitely recommend Komkyk to anyone who wants to explore the countryside.
The room was neat and comfortable, especially the air conditioner was a plus after a long hot day on the road. We will spend the night there again if the chance presents itself.
The unit we booked did not have water and we were moved to another unit.
The accommodation was perfect; however, the room was facing the forecourt and highway, which was very noisy. The pool is well maintained. It would have been nice if there was a fan available as it was extremely hot.

Unfortunately, Komkyk has clearly deteriorated since we last stayed there 2 years ago. The place looks battered and we're still waiting for the grill they were supposed to drop off. The braai drums which were always very good are in pieces along with other rubbish everywhere. Very disappointed, especially after we have had a very nice stay there several times.
The notice board indicates that you must report to the office. Driving around the place found no office. Ask at the first store where the office is. Referred to the cashiers at OK. Ask one lady and be asked to wait. She goes to get a form and the keys and requests someone else to help me. The furnishings need attention. Chairs pull apart. Soon they will break and someone will get hurt. Sink faucet in the bathroom is very loose. One bedside lamp's wire has been extended, but the wires are no longer properly wrapped. Dangerous for small children. In the morning we will hand over the keys. Just took the keys. In our 24 day tour through several provinces and visiting many places to stay, this was the worst with the most unfriendly reception we have experienced in all our years of travel.

Won't just stay there again. No provision made for loadshedding, there was not even a candle or light in the room. Weak.
Unfortunately, the pool was not available for use.
Amenities are simple but very clean. There were few other campers so I could take my choice of pitch under the biggest tree. There are a few grills standing around that can be moved around for use. Upon arrival, directions on where to check in were unclear, but once I was at the correct location, the process was quick and easy. The biggest downside for me was that the site is right next to the N1, close to the area where the speed limit is reduced to 80, so the noise from the trucks braking through the night was disturbing. For my purpose of just sleeping over to break up the road to the Cape, Komkyk Touwsrivier was sufficient, but I wouldn't want to camp there for long periods of time.
Lights in units during load shedding will bring more feet to the area. Load power also causes mobile phone signal problems in the town so WiFi in rooms will also facilitate the visit.
Upon arrival we were kindly received by a lady at OK Mini Mark. We drove through and chose our pitch. What a shock when we wanted to connect the power cord. The power boxes are definitely a hazard for any caravan, but luckily we were able to find another power box that is in better condition. The next shock that awaits us is the ablution facilities. Tiles that are off the walls in the showers. Up in the roof, nesting pigeons. Floor is full of sand, even in the showers, previous comments mentioned they are doing maintenance, but I can safely say there is no sign of any maintenance on site. Lady who checked us in mentioned they have 24h security patrolling the premises, didn't see a single person doing this, not even when it was pitch dark when it was loadshedding, no light of any kind was installed outside. Could point out many more things about the poor condition of the premises, but I'll leave it at that, just will never spend the night there again.
The location is at a garage where large trucks stay overnight. It doesn't feel safe for families and I wouldn't recommend people with children staying there. There was a slight smell of cigarette smoke inside the unit, one bed leg was gone, the TV didn't work and the control didn't have batteries in it. It is noisy throughout the night due to the trucks that drive in and out all the time. It was fairly clean, but the bathroom cabinet and shower were battered. I actually can't imagine the place being advertised.
On premises say go to the office. There was no office. Had to call and go find the garage where the keys were. The premises are extremely poorly maintained. Braai area is dirty and broken. The boma rondavel's roof is suffocating. Mud and water everywhere. Parking area under water. Access for any criminal to the premises. One cabinet in the toilet is loose. Didn't feel safe at all. Have photos available. Would like my money back.

A torch, rechargeable globe or lamp in the bathroom would help during loadshedding. Other than that I was happy with the accommodation. Being upstairs, we had the privacy and were high enough to be able to leave the curtains open and fall asleep under the stars.

It was very quiet, except there is construction going on but when it's done it should be better because it's just dust. They will definitely need to pay attention to the pool area which was obviously very dirty when we arrived.

They didn't tell me where to book in. Customer service was very bad also. They say the place do have wifi but didn't even bother too give us the WiFi pin. There was aircon and it wasn't even blowing cold so there's no point in using it. The swimming pool was al dirty also.
Toilet is loose from floor, wants to fall over if you sit on it. Room was covered with small, hatched flies sitting on the inside of the windows. It was like that at every window, even in the bathroom. Air conditioner leaks puddle of water in the room.
Accommodation is right next to a garage, felt very unsafe and ended up checking out the same day as check-in.

The general accommodation is good, but the shower's water pools and you stand in 15cm deep water. The handle of the shower faucet is broken and the shower head too, this is unacceptable. The staff of the restaurant make a big noise when they close 11/12h the evening. Other than that, it's all nice thanks.
The site was tidy, ash bins were clean, there are braai's, the bathrooms are neat and clean, there is more than enough hot water.

The town has a lot of potential that can be developed through the necessary funding. More places like Komkyk should be set up. As old residents of Touwsrivier it will always be "going home" for us. We enjoy the peaceful calming effect of the Karoo.

Everything was clean and tidy. The electrical plugs are extremely uncomfortable because they are hidden under a table. I couldn't find a switch to turn off the bathroom light. I cannot say exactly that I felt very safe, because there is no access control at the gate that gives access to the premises. I think their rate is somewhat high if I have to compare it with the other rates.
We slept one night at Komkyk, we had to hit the road again early the next morning. The unit was nicely furnished, the restaurant waiters were very friendly from the start I was very impressed When we went to bed at 10 o'clock in the evening, our neighbors started visiting a bit, but we didn't make anything of it, unfortunately it wasn't the last and our neighbors didn't go to bed until 2:30 in the morning and you could hear everything from the maquette. I can't say anything bad about the accommodation, but I'm scared to go back again, because you're left to your own devices to sort out situations like the one above. Taken in the bigger picture, this was a unique case.
Measured against other places on the website, Komkyk should not be advertised. Again weak.
I would not recommend Komkyk at all. The place is not at all what they market it as. We refused to spend the night there seeing as it was at a petrol garage with no safe parking and drunk people in the car park. Room is old.
I slept in a guest room for one person and it was neat and well equipped for its purpose. Although Komkyk is located right next to the N1, the guest rooms are at the back and the traffic was not a problem at all.

Clean, neat basic accommodation with little extras that just make it nice! Biscuits for the coffee, the red blankets over the beds, reading lights by the beds. Sometimes we didn't get it elsewhere.
Very peaceful evening and slept well. Neat housing unit and the welcome was friendly. Service was good, even at the restaurant.
Very little sleep, neighbors had a heated argument just after midnight and had no numbers to contact in case of a problem. Advertise safe parking, but it's not true. Not even a wire or gate between the parking and main road.

For quick overnight stays, Komkyk is neat, clean and well equipped. When booking, they might just mention that some of the self-catering units are on top of the restaurant - it disturbed the peace and quiet to listen to the exhaust fan from the kitchen until after ten.
