What a beautiful unit and setting! Very well equipped, lovely electric blankets, fully equipped kitchen. We really enjoyed our 4 nights and look forward to the next visit there. We were disappointed with the accommodation. The host was not there to meet us, and we would not have been able to get in if another guest hadn't let us in with their remote. The security gate is left open, which seems pointless, especially as the host explained that the police, as well as at least two security companies, patrol regularly. This probably indicates that security is an issue. The kitchen was very poorly designed, with old cupboards and dirty paint. The plates and glasses were cheap and there were not enough of them. The cutlery was cheap, thin, and mismatched. The gas lighter for the cooker was not working, and the deep freeze part of the fridge needed defrosting as we couldn't open the drawers. It needs a complete overhaul and modernisation, with wires all over the place. The lounge was very dark with dark curtains, and if open, there was no privacy. The bathroom needs a complete renovation, as there was nowhere to put anything and a cheap toilet seat. There was a sign telling us not to bathe, although there are currently no water restrictions. There was an odd lighting arrangement with a dirty pull cord for the bathroom light and a dirty bath mat. The towels were very thin and old. The main bedroom had only one bedside light, with a broken lampshade, and it smelled of cigarette smoke, even in the bed.

The rooms in the guest house are very spacious, nicely furnished and have everything that was needed, but there are quite a few rooms available on the premises and then it feels like there are many people on one plot. The "courtyard" has a small lawn and swimming pool that all the rooms then share. So although it's pet friendly, there isn't a separate fenced yard/area for your pets - just something to keep in mind for people with animals. It was very central and perfect for our one night stay.
They could just maybe leave an information document there indicating where takeaways and shops like Spar etc are.

Neat and well-equipped self-catering unit close to the town center in Montagu. We enjoyed the safe and quiet environment. Christine, Michelle and their staff left no stone unturned to make our stay pleasant and enjoyable. For example, after our arrival on Saturday afternoon we inquired about barbecue facilities. Fifteen minutes later, Christine came to deliver a brand new braai with charcoal, blitz and braai tongs. They also made sure that we did not struggle due to load shedding. We will definitely return to Koo Karoo Self Care. Thank you very, very much!

The cottage was very neat and well equipped for a family of 4. The owner (Christine) was very friendly and helpful with extra things that were needed for the weekend. We stayed for 4 nights in the self-catering apartment and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The apartment was very comfortable, quiet, and had fast WiFi. The location was good and was just one block from the main shopping street and surrounded by historic homes. Shirley was a welcoming host and gave us lots of helpful information.

We are three adults who stayed in the cottage. The place is comfortably furnished with a communal braai area on the premises, as well as a small swimming pool. The owner (originally from England) is really friendly and really goes out of her way to see where she can support. The rooms could do with air conditioning against the summer heat, but it is noticeable that very few places in that area advertise air conditioning on their websites, but instead boast fireplaces against the cold winters. Will definitely stay there again if I'm in the area.

We enjoyed our two night stay at the Koo Karoo. The spacious accommodation was very good, well equipped kitchen and a good braai area. There is a good selection of restaurants/ pubs in Montagu. We would definitely recommend.
We were there for 1 night only - everything was neat and clean and the owner was very friendly. She could give us more information about the guest house's name, I asked about it. It was very quiet, no noisy guests. The guest house is walking distance from the centre of town and businesses.

Montagu is one of those towns you drive through until you need to attend a conference. I was surprised at how charming it is. Koo Karoo was very central - we walked everywhere and my car stayed in the garage until I left. If I went back I'd book in to the same place.
The mountains are enchanting and you receive real small town service and friendliness. I would suggest that you go for a walk in Joubert Park.

The owners, Paul & Shirley, received us very generously. The place's old-world charm is special. The guest house is centrally located and you can therefore simply walk to get to all the attractions. Their recommendation of a restaurant hit the nail on the head and De olde Tavern was excellent. Breakfast was delicious and both that and the rates were very good value for money. If there is anything I would change it would be the bed, bedding and towels which have seen better days, but for the price you can't really complain. The rest made up for it. They will surely see me again because I think I lost my heart on Montagu... Beautiful!

It consists of a 100-year-old Victorian house with large comfortable rooms, a self-catering cottage and an additional self-catering apartment.
The self-catering cottage was converted from its former use as a coach house and it still boasts many of the original features such as the barn doors and stone walls. The cottage has a private entrance overlooking the small pool and garden. The self-catering cottage is suitable for single occupants, couples, or a maximum of 4 people. It comprises 2 bedrooms furnished with a king-size bed in the main bedroom and 2 single beds in the other bedroom. It has a shared bathroom, accessed by a lockable door from each bedroom, that has a bath and separate shower cubicle.
