70 guests' feedbackThe accommodation was perfect for our large group of 18 MTB riders and 2 drivers. Chalets are close enough together to be convenient but far enough apart not to be on top of each other. Facilities are basic but perfectly adequate. Marilize kept us updated on the weather and went out of her way to accommodate specific needs that we had. The views of the dam and surrounding mountains make this place a hidden gem. We had a fantastic stay.
Unfortunately, we traveled for interschool sports. So we only stayed one night. Only arrived at 18h00 and had to leave again the next morning at 07h00. But we will definitely visit again.
We were a group of 16 people that was split between 12 in Die Skooltjie and 4 in Chalet 3. The purpose for our stay over the weekend was to hike up and summit Sleeping Beauty. Our hiking club SAPSTAP is used to all forms of accommodation from sleeping in a lodge to sleeping in a cave on Towerkop. So with regards to Die Skooltjie, everything was clean and the shower always hot since it was gas heated. All the basics were available in the kitchen. The location of Die Skooltjie was perfectly secluded which was ideal for a large group.

It was a very nice weekend, peaceful atmosphere, chalets are tidy and everything you need is available.
The fact that there were no TVs or power was perfect. My friends, who are all city-dwellers, really enjoyed it. The children had fun swimming in the pond, throwing clay balls and roasting baguettes and marshmallows in the evening.
Amazing view from the chalet. Breathtaking to say the least. It's the perfect way to start the day by having a coffee on the convenient front porch. It does get extremely cold at night, and visitors must be warned that the gravel road can be very difficult for some vehicles.

The unit was nice and clean, just terribly hot. We had to buy a fan. There was also nothing at all - a candle or a rechargeable light - for loadshedding.

The scenery is wonderful. The chalet was very neat and clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. The dirt road is in good condition.
Marelise and her team met all our special requests, on time and in detail. A generator was provided to overcome load shedding issues, thank you guys, fantastic experience for all.
By far the best equipped self-catering unit in terms of cleanliness, space, comfortable mattresses and those little extra treats. The site is neatly maintained, everything works, everything is clean. It is exceptionally affordable and the scenery unbeatable.

The little school is the perfect destination for a group that wants to escape from busy life to nature. The location is picturesque and offers the opportunity to be lazy, to swim in the pond or go for a walk in nature. There is no power or fridge facilities, but solar powered lights and gas for cooking facilities and hot showers. The sleeping facilities are bunker beds, so make sure you are comfortable with each other's snoring. It was a very nice visit for us, which we will definitely do again.
We loved our stay there. Was far enough from others that we could make noise. Our dog could run free.
Good dirt road, comfortable chalets, peaceful, breathtaking nature. It's as if the peace of the Lord surrounds you, where your tank is filled again with Jesus' greatness and faithfulness.

It was an incredible experience! The view is out of this world! It's so peaceful. My children could play on the large lawn, the house was clean, and had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend others to visit. We would also like to go back again. A true hidden gem.
The only negative for me is the location so I had to do the 12km gravel road 4 to 5 times a day.
The guy that met us at the reception point can be more friendly by putting a smile on when guests arrive. Secondly, I booked for house nr 6 and he puts me in house nr 3 (I booked that house for a special reason). I fell from the stairs because with my arrival the sprayers were still on and the stairs were wet so I slipped and fell. Never did he come around to see if I was fine or okay, so he should put signs there or see that the place is dry to avoid such injuries (place not child friendly). At the dam I didn't have my fishing spot because the lady at the dam told me her grand children are coming along with their dogs (not friendly people at all). So I paid for a place I didn't book in the first place, and secondly, the people, like that old lady who stayed on the premises should be more considerate because I was a paying customer who had to play according their rules and orders. All and all I rate this place 2.
The chalets are clean, neat and beautifully located with a picture perfect view. A little basic, but that is reflected in the price which offers great value for money. Accommodating and friendly staff, too.
We stayed in the Skooltjie which was a wonderful experience. The unit has everything you need for a good stay. Just note there is no electricity so bring a headlamp or torch, they do provide oil lanterns. Could not have asked for a better setting along the lake. We recommend hiring the Kol Kol wood fired hot tub to round off the experience.

Bass-fishing was tough, but I was told that fish goes of the bite for 6 months. Best is from September to February. December being the best. Good info for bad fisherman.

We enjoyed our time but all that was uncomfortable for us was that there was no power and we also had no hot water.
Wasn't our first time and definitely not our last.
A few points they could perhaps correct in chalet 7 are: no towels (at least one expects this in any chalet/guest house). No wine glasses. The hot tap in the shower doesn't work (we all had to bathe). The sink faucets were stiff to open and dripped a lot. The good points are: The kitchen was well equipped with enough of everything except the wine glasses. The mattresses in both rooms were firm and we were able to sleep well. The fact that there was a nice big dining room with a beautiful view of the pond meant that we could have a good time with my brother-them without feeling cramped. At least the fact that there was a canopy by the back door meant that I could use my braai under the canopy and while it was raining, I could braai.
We were a group that used 6 of the 7 chalets, there is so much to do, some could swim, others cycle, kayak on the water, or just experience nature and be peaceful. Great experience.
Ideal if you want to get away from the noise. It's peaceful and beautiful and the dirt road is worth it. Beautiful scenery, peaceful surroundings. We enjoyed it tremendously, next time we will come for longer than just 1 night. Can not wait! :)

It was an experience. Bitterly cold, but for that they took care of a wall heater in the living room. The dam is bitterly beautiful, the nature breathtaking. We are nature lovers and photographers and thoroughly enjoyed trying to capture the beauty in a photo. We have already said that we will definitely visit again in the summer. Perfect location. Friendly and helpful management and staff. You need to take your own bedding, towels and soap but that's one of the reasons it's so affordable. Ideal for people who enjoy the outdoors, particularly water sports and hiking, and you want an affordable place to stay away from it all.
