Very friendly reception and welcome. We had a great night in 'The Dairy'. Everything is spotless and the fireplace, which was already lit, a lovely bonus. The dinner is always delicious.
Delightful cottage in a lovely setting. My husband and I overnighted on our way back from Hermanus and pushed through to Springfontein. It was well worth the extra drive from Colesberg, where we normally would have stopped. We were even able to order a delicious 3-course meal at short notice, which was well-priced. The facilities had everything we needed and more. Our 2 young dogs were also well-received, and they had a lovely time too. Thank you for being such a lovely hostess. We will definitely come back.

We visited Kuilfontein about 10 years ago and were very impressed. However, on this visit we found that, although everything is very clean, it is a bit dated. It might be good if a little "renewal" is done. Our booking was handled very professionally and the dinner was delicious. If you are looking for a clean bed and good food I would recommend, provided you are not bothered about "fancy".

Was quite surprised. Rooms are much bigger than in photos. Very nice and neat. The fireplace in the room gives a cozy atmosphere. The staff is very friendly. Also ate very well there. Very impressed. The Karoo lamb dinner prepared and served by Desiree on 19 May was excellent and value for money.
We stayed in the Dairy room and it was spacious and comfortable. The fireplace was the highlight. We took the dinner option and while it was tasty, the portions were not large. The cost of the dinner didn't feel like value. The service was perhaps a bit too fast too. Yep, you read that right, too fast. For example, from the time we walked into the dining room until we finished eating was less than half an hour. This for a three-course meal. As your starter salad was taken away, the main course was placed in front of you and dessert was the same. It would be nice if they only had about 5 minutes between courses, but if such things don't bother you, I can recommend them 100%. The service is friendly and we would love to stay there again.

Arrived late at the farm and was just ready for a delicious plate of Karoo food.
The place has a lot of character. Typical old farmhouse style with big old rooms, fireplace and parquet floors. The evening meal was a proper 3-course meal with boiled mutton and mallow pudding rather. Shelton and his people looked after us very well. In each room there is an honesty bar with wine, soft drinks and beers, together with a French press for coffee. The rusk was a pleasant bonus.

Clean rooms in the Annex of the main house, good quality bedlinen & towels. Even if the house is full of old furniture, every thing is tastefully done and it does not feel like you are sleeping over at your friend's granny's house. Food adequate for dinner and breakfast. Decent crockery and cutlery. The attention to detail makes for lovely guesthouse. The only thing that was a bit bothersome is the noisy plumbing in our bathroom, which sounded like it was running a pump everytime you opened a tap or flushed the toilet.

The guest house is very close to the N1 and is a good place to stop between Durban or Johannesburg and Cape Town. The food was very tasty and the rooms are very clean and comfortable. They also provided some nice extra surprises in the room.

Location is ideal, just off the N1, but far enough that the traffic doesn't bother you. Everything you need for an overnight stay. Dinner was very nice farm food and we enjoyed the social interaction with the other guests before and during dinner.
This is a wonderful place to stay on the N1 on the way to the Cape. It is close to the road, but still in the countryside with a beautiful garden and a pool. The old farmhouse is comfortable, homely and decorated with lovely antiques. The hosts are very welcoming and attentive including the lovely Staffie dog. We stayed there on the way to and from the Cape and each time felt like we were coming home. We also ate both dinner and breakfast and found the food to be plentiful and delicious and we were specifically catered for, being a family of vegetarians. We really liked the idea of being seated with other guest at meals whereby we could talk about our travels and get to know some new and interesting people. I would definitely recommend Kuilfontein.
Already the third time we stay at Kuilfontein. Enjoyed it very much and the meal can also be recommended. We enjoy the farm environment and that dogs are allowed.

Kuilfontein has an extremely convenient location for an overnight stay or visit in the Transgariep. The farm is very close to the main road and the rooms are extremely well equipped. The dinner was delicious with all the other guests and lots of authentic South African peasant food with delicious mutton was served. The paddock is a bonus with beautiful and interesting wares, snacks and coffee. We were disappointed in the slightly unfriendly reception and farewell by one of the employees (not the hostess) and that the hostess herself showed no further interest in us apart from the reception during dinner.

Have stayed many times previously, together with my late husband. This time I was alone. Close to the main road, yet always very quiet and peaceful. Rooms plain yet tastefully furnished, have everything, and more, than you need. Dinner is always delicious. Well planned and prepared, very tasty. Definitely not too be missed. Didn't have breakfast this time as I needed to be on the road early. Suggestion would be to do earlier breakfast, or offer a packed one for travellers to have on the road.
After the long road, Kuilfontein is the perfect resting place. Our 16-month-old boy had a great time frolicking in the beautiful garden and enjoyed running up and down the spacious rooms. The rooms were lovely and tasteful and the dinner was the cherry on the cake. Will definitely stay here again in the future.

We were received very kindly, just as if we had known each other for years. Everything is clean and very tidy - with very comfortable beds. Dinner was tasty and the dogs and the children were equally hospitably received. Martinette went out of her way to accommodate us as far as possible with 2 small children. We will definitely stay there again.

Googled to an introduction to Kuilfontein Guestfarm. Rewarded with one of our best stopovers yet on the Gauteng/Cape route. The dinner and breakfast also provided opportunity to interact with fellow travellers.
We arrived on a bitterly cold evening free a little by drive. Rooms were beautifully appointed, with welcome glass of port, tea and coffee, a heater and electric blankets. -7ºC outside and we were snug and warm. Lamb dinner was fabulous and breakfast was good too. We will come back.

Kuilfontein is a wonderful escape in the evenings after a long day on the road. Everything was clean and ready for our arrival. The reception was warm and very welcome. We travel with our 2 dogs and they were received with equal openness. Feel free to spare yourself the unhealthiness of road food, because the meals at Kuilfontein are highly recommended. Anna is an excellent cook, and you couldn't ask for better food than what they serve. Kuilfontein is ideally located and highly recommendable.

Overall a very nice experience and the perfect halfway stop between George and Centurion (almost on the km). Reception was friendly and warm. Our room and bathroom were spacious, clean and comfortable. Only 2 positive criticism notes: (1) I feel that we didn't get value for our money with regards to dinner. I expected a lovely farm dinner with soft mutton, rice, potatoes and vegetables (this is my idea of delicious farm food in the Karoo). I think the owner wanted to be too fancy with the food. If I have been driving for a long time, I just want to stay over and have a good meal, relax and have a good night's sleep. I don't really care for fancy-ness. For dinner we got two lamb chops with other foods. Most of the food was tasty but the lamb chops were tough, half raw, and I think I would have gotten better quality meat at Toits in Centurion. I was disappointed in the dinner. Sorry that I'm elaborating so much on this, but hopefully the owner takes it to heart so that they can provide a better service. I may be the only person who feels this way. (2) Our bed's mattress was very hard. Notwithstanding the above, I'd like to stay there again.

The reception and service was very pleasant and professional. The room was very neat and clean with enough space. The table with chairs was a bonus. Appreciated the nut coffee as well as real milk.
The unit was clean and neat and we felt safe. If we travel that way again, we will definitely stay over again.
We stayed one night en route to the Western Cape, in the large farmhouse with our two small children. Dinner was served in our house (at our request), separate from the other guests, who ate in the main house dining room, it was just easier with two exhausted kids. We all, including the 6yr old and 2yr old, licked our plates clean. Although it was very hot, all the rooms were equipped with fans which ensured a solid night's rest. We enjoyed the stay so much that we stayed there on the way home too.
Our room was lovely and clean, but what impacted me was dinner in the main house - as guests we gathered for pre-dinner drinks with the host and then enjoyed our home-cooked meal altogether. The food was outstanding, and the two ladies who prepared it and served it are an asset to the guest farm. Thank you for making our overnight stay such a pleasure!

Description
The Main House Unit is part of the main farmhouse where meals are served with its entrance at the main front door. It has 2 bedrooms one has a standard size double bed with a single bed and the other room has 3 standard size singles beds. It has a bathroom with a bath and a shower.
Our accommodation has 3 tastefully decorated double units that sleep 2 guests and 3 family units that sleep 5 guests each. We also serve a full English Breakfast and Karoo Lamb Dinner which both are not included in any quotes. Meals are charged and paid for separately and need to be booked for 2 days prior to arrival.
We also have a well known Farm Stall on our farm where we served the best cappuccinos and delicious homemade pies, cakes etc.
