KwaThabisile Game Lodge
KwaThabisile Game Lodge
-
In the heart of Gauteng, Dinokeng 'a place of rivers', where you can experience "All of Africa in a day". Here you’ll find KwaThabisile Game Lodge nestled in a 400ha Leeuwkloof Valley Conservancy.
At KwaThabisile, we welcome you to our own ‘Out of Africa’ where you can enjoy sundowners and magnificent sunsets over the Leeuwkloof Valley, and hear the night sounds come to live over the soft crackling of the boma fire. You can also have the pleasure of eating sumptuous poolside breakfasts overlooking the magnificent Valley, wander down to the pond, or enjoy invigorating walks through the bush accompanied by game and the songs of abundant birdlife accompany your every move.
We are the ideal venue for exclusive group breakaways: weddings, conferences, teambuilding, parties, and friend and family get-togethers.
From here you can also experience the 3 hubs of Dinokeng, Roodeplaat dam (Nature Reserve and Water sports activities), Cullinan (Our historical Village and Refilwe Township Tours) and our Dinokeng Game Reserve (where you can experience the first Big 5 free roaming game in Gauteng).
Accomodation;
This lodge is in a uniquely rustic setting, ideal for couples, groups of friends and families, small conferencing (30 U-Shape and 65 School room) and special events.
The 7 exclusive units at KwaThabisile are a celebration of rustic African chic. Crisp percale cotton sheets and feather duvets and pillows, are all beautifully complimented by a stylish collection of personal momentos from Alexandra’s travels across Africa.
All 7 units are self-catering, and we have a total of 11 bedrooms. We can accommodate up to 45 people/ (65 people split in 2 groups, however, all sharing meals in either the boma or conference room). The rooms accommodate 11 couples, 11 singles, 22 sharing or more.
The Italian Prisoners’ of War originally built the Old Thabisile farmhouse, steeped in history. It has since been converted into 3 self-catering units, 2 of which can be interlinked. Here you have Antelope and Bushbaby units (both are interlinked with double doors for privacy) as well as the Chameleon Unit.
The Original Thatched House which has been converted into 3 units are full of rustic charm and character. Here you have the Duiker, Eland and Flycatcher units. These are each semi-detached with their own private entrance and verandah.

40 guests' feedbackIt was so peaceful and cozy. Would go back there again anytime, and the dog was the cutest, so loving. My children and we felt at home and very relaxed. We were upgraded to a bigger house, not even asked for any extra fees. Unbelievable.
Very nice units. Saw many goats, swimming pool beautiful and clean. Service is excellent.
Exactly what the wife and I needed.
We as a family of 4 with young children were spoiled with the beautiful accomodation, friendly staff and amazing breakfasts, we will definitely recommend this establishment to anyone and the road in was easy to navigate.
Their doggies are an absolute joy to have around.
We had a great time. I just think it would have been nice if the owner herself had come to introduce herself and ask if everything was okay. The lady who runs the lodge was very welcoming. I suggest that a light should be put up outside the chalet so that you can at least have some light outside.
WiFi and signal reception very, very poor.
I had a great time, thank you.
They only need to provide more activity.
Breakfast might be a good idea in the future, otherwise we had a great time and will book again.
Had hoped to see some game there, but otherwise we really enjoying a relaxing break away from the city.
It was absolutely lovely the views and bird life was beautiful and very peaceful.
The unit is old - the stairs are hazardous especially for toddlers. One has to duck under roof beams upstairs to get to the rooms and bathroom. There is no window in the bathroom. The kitchen is not well kitted out, pans are old and handles are broken - no broom to sweep with, only a brush. The photos of the unit need to be updated as the photos are not a true representation of the current state. We were 6 people, yet only 4 towels were provided - after asking for more, these were brought to us. There are two resident dogs that roam around, they are very sweet but are too comfortable as they would come into our unit and with a small child we felt we had to keep a constant watch just in case. There was music playing and a party on the Friday night, although there is a no-music policy at the lodge. There was not enough lounge seating for 6 people, and we felt the unit had not been properly cleaned. Unfortunately our weekend turned out to be rather disappointing.
It was very nice. Not very far. Except that there was no TV, we then got used to it and just enjoyed the silence and nature.
The KwaThabisile staff members are top. They always make sure that everything is up to date and they are always ready to assist with everything. Awesome.
It was a wonderful weekend in nature and away from the city's noise. The accommodation was clean and tidy! The hostess was friendly and very helpful! Will stay here again.
The only problem is that the pots/pans are a bit meager. For example, there was no pan, but I'm sure if I asked, they would have made a plan. Very nice and will return.
Establishment is maintained, clean and well kept, staff very helpful and friendly. Will definitely return thank you!
The unit we received was secluded and the veranda overlooks the back of the lodge. On arrival our mood was not pleasant. The unit's location behind us was better to look out at the lapa, pool, sunset and lodge. No TV or WiFi. Unit was beautifully clean and equipped with everything needed.
When we arrived with our animals, for which we had arranged in advance, we were immediately told that we could take them off the leash, they could run around freely, we then did so. Later in the afternoon the owner asked us to put our dog on the leash. There were kids running around in front of our room the entire time, making our dogs bark at them (the kids screaming while playing). We were unaware that there were going to be so many children on the premises, it seemed to be family because the children did not stay there overnight. It would have influenced our choice to stay there because our dogs are not used to children. We were told our unit was private, but that was not the case. The ad also did not mention that the lodge is outside Dinokeng Nature Reserve, we were under the impression it was inside Dinokeng Nature Reserve. The workers also walk past your front door every 10 minutes, the porch points directly in the direction of everyone passing by, as we sit on the porch and braai everyone walks right in front of us (again emphasising the no privacy). The air con had almost no effect, the place teeming with mosquitoes and the kitchen is not complete (with reference to utensils). For the rest, everything was clean and tidy.
Alex and Cai made us feel welcome. Had a very nice stay. A true bushveld experience. Will definitely go again.
Small and quiet but beautiful getaway. The facilities/units are extremely neat. Hosts go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
Had a great time and the weather also cooperated well.
Very quiet and very nice view. We took a puppy and enjoyed it.
Close, tidy, value for money, quiet, animals welcome. All that is needed for self-care in the house. Good value for money.
The accommodation is a bit expensive for what you get - you would expect better facilities at this price. It was very hot at night and some of the ceiling fans didn't work or made a lot of noise. The air conditioning in one of the rooms was also not working. However, we had a very nice, peaceful time together as a family - I can definitely recommend this accommodation for groups of 20 and up. The pool was very clean and the volleyball net was set up and the court was beautifully measured out. We really enjoyed the weekend, the service Alex provided was also very good.
Great scenery. Great staff. Great accommodation.
A really great place to get away from everything and not too far from Pretoria. Very quiet and peaceful with wonderful bush-TV (fireplaces).
Warm welcome, they have two beautiful well-behaved dogs on the property. Although the rooms were clean, the bathroom was not cleaned before we arrived and I had to wash all the items in the kitchen before use, kitchen needs attention.
Appreciate everything and it was very peaceful, rooms are neat and only missed coffee. Very nice stay and the staff is very pleasant and helpful. Really enjoyed it and yes the place is beautiful.
Fantastic service from workers at the guest house, especially from Prince.
Was able to relax in a peaceful environment and pool is nice clean and refreshing. Kitchen needs serious upgrading. Badly equipped. Pans' handles loose and no oven. Unit never cleaned during our stay. Had to ask for trash to be removed from unit by day 3! Barbecue is not cleaned. If you read feedback from visitors up to 10 years ago, it sounds fantastic. It especially sounds like foreigners get special treatment. Today a very different picture. Next time I will look at honor other than just the photos before I make a decision.
Kwathabisile is a good place to go to get away from the busy city life. It is very quiet, and it seemed like time stood still. My mother and I went there for a little getaway, and it was great to hear nothing but the bushveld noises around us. It was also a great bonus that we were allowed to bring our doggy along - she also enjoyed the wide open spaces immensely!
We really enjoyed the tranquility - nicely furnished and well located.
I was under the impression that the lodge was in a reserve that had specific self-drive routes, but there was no sign of that. There were no drying towels and dish towels in the kitchen. The kitchen's work surface is very small, even for us who were only 2 people. The little two-board stove looks like a fire hazard. The cold water that has to run into the bath was 'non-existent' and the shower wasn't too shabby either. Although we had a great stay and had a great time, I personally think the accommodation is a bit expensive for what you get. I would recommend it but not at the current price.
It's well located, but the accommodation is unpleasant. Everything is old, weathered and broken. Not worth the price at all. There was no privacy at the pool, people crowded around you. It's disappointing. There were also no lights outside at the pool. The place has an incredible amount of potential, but it is not being used.
The lodge has a great location, just a shame there were no game drives available.
No management involved. There is no restaurant at all as indicated, no game... Very disappointing. I didn't get my room that I booked, but they made up for it by giving me a bigger unit at the same price. Think they are a bit expensive. The pool could definitely have been cleaner. Apart from everything, I now know what to expect and I will go again because our puppy can come along and the kids had a lot of fun.
We enjoyed the weekend, but KwaThabisile is not what we expected, because they advertise a restaurant, but there is no restaurant, no meals and no chef. This is strictly self catering and not a bed and breakfast. There is also no television available and we didn't see the manager the whole weekend while we were there. We had to travel plus minus 40 km to go on a game drive at another facility. The taps in the bath room are not working properly. Some of the other visitors were also very upset when they arrived there.
