They are all unique in interior and exterior spacing and design, and are fondly named after the nature found on their doorstep. The cottages are ideal for the weekend travellers, or for those who come for longer periods to relax and recharge. Each cottage has its own private entertainment space, and there are also several communal spaces for larger groups to get together. La Bastide is a beautiful clean unit. Got much more than we expected. Zodwa is an avg. The scenery and mountains give tranquility. Will go back again anytime. Location is also ideal.
We experienced a few things that need to be fixed. The basin was loose. The wooden face cloth rack is loose. We saw a few spiders in the room and bathroom. The globe outside on the stairs is dark, making it a bit difficult to use the stairs at night. We could not use the WiFi as it was only available in certain rooms. So those were the only minor issues.
Rooms and bathrooms very neat and clean. Some of the rooms look better than in photos, so suspect there have been recent improvements. Nice play area for children and large lawn for picnics. Milk and bottles of water in fridges were pleasant. Maybe just look at salt and pepper shaker refills. But really enjoyed it.
Very nice and cute places. Just a cold place, so take your slippers.
I had problems with communication. TV didn't work at all, but I was told 3 times that someone was on their way to fix it, but no one showed up. Certain wall plugs suddenly didn't work, even though the lights were on. Only later received the message that it was loadshedding. It was unpleasant to report every time and nothing happens.
We love coming here. Really value for money. We only have an issue with the ants. It becomes unpleasant but other than that, the place is really great.
We had a wonderful peaceful stay at La Bastide Lavender cottage. What a beautiful place. The gardens are spectacular, the facilities were good. The pool was lovely. The view of the mountain is incredible. Perfect place if you are wanting to do a trip around Harties Dam.
We had a very pleasant stay in the Sky Room. The room was a bit cold, but they provided heating blankets for the evening, so we were not uncomfortable. The premises are well kept and nice for family activities, including a play area for children. I did have a problem with contacting the establishment in the weeks leading up to our stay. However, during our stay they were accessible and very helpful.

The area is beautiful. Unfortunately our unit was not clean. Reported it but received no feedback.
No. Had trouble getting in and had to wait outside in main road for several minutes as no one was on duty. No one received us. The sleeping pillows had an unpleasant smell. No hot water. No one answered the phone to solve the water problem. Vehicle was not secure.
Room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. Bedding was fresh and clean. It was a very cold night and the heater warmed up the room nice and quickly and a warm blanket on the bed.
Had a nice, peaceful weekend away. Place was nice and clean. Will definitely stay there again.
David was great at informing me on certain aspects regarding my stay at La Bastide. Zodwa prepared the electric blanket before we got ready for bed as well as charged the light for us way before load shedding hit the area, I'm so impressed, amazed and blessed to have encountered such amazing souls at La Bastide, the place is so tranquil. I would definitely go back there again.
We have stayed at La Bastide several times and have never been disappointed. We have noticed that some improvements have been made. This is truly a guest house that we will visit again and again and also recommend. Nowhere else can you find so much comfort in simplicity, the most beautiful garden and view and lots of peace and quiet. See you again soon!
Just a suggestion. Perhaps the website could also mention that there are stairs to the unit. I had a knee replacement and my wife also has knee problems and it was a bit difficult to get up there. However, the staff were very helpful and helped with the bags. David was very hospitable and helpful.
Had an amazing 3 days at La Bastide in the lavender cottage. The cottage was clean and spacious. Really enjoyed the view as the gardens are well kept. Totally relaxed while I was there with nobody. bothering us. It's close to all the activities you want. Big thanks to Zodwa for looking after us so well. One of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept on. Would highly recommend this place to everyone.
A very nice and affordable little gem, just far away from everything for a peaceful breakaway and yet close enough to activities when you need some action. The staff were true gems, Zodwa and Pedro were always available to help with a smile on their faces. Truly recommend the place.
Love farm environment, safe feeling, fresh air.
The only problem was that the owners and staff are not with the staff after 17.00. This makes it slightly difficult to locate the particular house as the houses are not marked. The owner sent a message during the week to see inbook before 17.00. In my opinion this is something that should be mentioned before booking as many people work and cannot be there that early.
Very nice visit, well located, definitely worth it. Birdlife and nightlife charming with a fire. Clean and tidy. Housekeeping was very helpful. Lovely 2 - 3 km walk in the area. Although there was a nice coffee machine there was no coffee for the filter coffee machine. However, there were bags of coffees, tea and sugar. Thank you very much, your porch is lovely, would like to have the option of a log on the fire. Housekeeping was very nice to help.

The gardens and the unit are gorgeous. The shower is dark and dirty with black mold everywhere. Shower head hardly works and hot water comes and goes. The kitchen is poorly stocked with only a few white sugar, black tea and coffee sachets in dirty, old, broken, plastic tubs. No washing up stuff to clean the 2 coffee cups for morning coffee. Water sits in rusty sink with only a hot water tap. Dusty, dark and cold, but at least there is an oil heater which helps. Hand soap and cream nearly empty in bathroom.

Loved my stay. the place was clean and tidy, the kitchen had everything we needed. The gardens are beyond stunning and to hear all the birds and see the most beautiful owls was an extra bonus.
Unfortunately, the swimming pool was a bit green due to all the rain. But we loved every moment and would go back anytime. I will definitely recommend La Bastide.

It's a really cute place to stay, especially for exploring Hartebeespoort Dam or if you just need a place to stay for booking Bill Harrops' hot air balloon excursion! They are about 7 km from the check-in point, conveniently close.

So much more than I expected! I stayed here the evening before my wedding and was surprised with this little gem. The scenery is beautiful and the little unit we stayed in is clean and cosy. The staff is friendly and helpful. I truly enjoyed my stay!

The staff was very friendly and saw to our every need. The view and gardens were food for the soul. Unfortunately it rained all weekend. The bathroom flooded due to a broken pipe.
Cell phone reception was just bad, which made us struggle to contact owners to open gate.
It's our second time here, once in a room and once in the self-catering unit. It's very cute and value for money. Maybe only intimate cleaning can be looked at (cobwebs in the corner of the wall and dead ants behind the bed) can see there was an ant problem, we also had ant eggs by the bedside table etc. (don't know if it fell from the roof). Furthermore, it was very nice and very beautiful! Will definitely book there again. Lots of lawn for kids and play area (could be washed off a bit, very full of dust) but very cute spot for a quick getaway.

We missed having Rooibos tea, there was only Ceylon tea, no dustbin in the bedrooms, all doors were very squeaky and noisy when opening and closing, handwash soap in bathroom was finished and the single beds were very creaky.

Our bathroom had no place to put soap or shampoo, it was uncomfortable. Hatch above headboard is a very cute idea but lets in too much light in the early morning.

It's the kind of place you always want to go back to and wonder if such peace and safety really still exists.
Room we stayed in (Honesuckle) was very comfortable. Room had a heater and electric blanket on the bed, so we could keep warm. The basic cutlery was also provided, such as a microwave, kettle, plates, glasses and knives and forks ─ all we needed for a quick break away. The views from the patio are stunning, we could park right next to our unit which was safe and the pool was also very clean and a lovely area to relax. Really enjoyed our stay. Only 1,5 km to Van Gaalen Cheese Farm for lunch and walking trails and not far at all from Aviators pub where we could watch the rugby.
We just stayed the one night. Enjoyed it a lot. It is a very good base from which to explore all the attractions in the area.

Enigste negatiewe ervaring, ons kamer was onder 'n ander een, dis nie 'n probleem nie. Die probleem is dat die boonste kamer houtvloere het. So ons het heeltyd die mense bo ons gehoor praat en selfs elke beweging gehoor, veral as iemand loop natuurlik klink dit verskriklik. Ons kon nie inlê nie, want die mense bo ons was al vroeg op en besig so mens hoor alles. Sal definitief aanbeveel en ons sal selfs teruggaan, net een van die ander kamers boek.

Lovely place, sadly they don't offer something as basic as an iron, leaving me with creased clothes. I cast my eye just underneath my bedside table and there was dust and a spider web. Lastly, some doors made squeaky sounds when you open and close them.
Venue is great, clean, well kept. Had sufficient heating which was a plus, customer service was poor.
Also has insects, mostly spiders and flies, again manageable for a few days but not ideal with little children who are scared of them. Would have liked to see a zapper or something else to help control the problem rather than bug spray which is again not healthy.
I would definitely suggest the place, worth to escape from your busy life and the VIEW is awesome

Our stay was perfect !! One concern with open concept and a view different venues on the same road. Just felt like anyone had access to roam free even if they don't stay at La Bastide. Perhaps also just add another safty door as our door didn't seem to lock very tight and sure that if you whanted to enter, it won't be that difficult. Other than this concern we will defenitly recomend it and even stay ourselves on a next bace.
There was no gas option to make coffee and no battery lights and the power was 90% off over the weekend.

Although there are a few units close together, you are still separate and in a very peaceful environment. The garden is lovely with all the flower beds and different flowers. The lavender bushes are breathtaking! Not something you see every day. Unit inside was lovely with decent furniture and bedding etc. Will definitely stay again.

We were in the cute loft room. Very neat with nice pictures on the walls. We slept well. Just 2 bugs that have bothered - the kettle can get a longer cord. I because of the bee hives at the bottom of the stairs.

We were attending a wedding at Green Leaves and I was able to arrange to check in earlier so we could get ready at the guest house for the function which was very convenient. The room was very nice and tidy. The welcome was very warm. Robin, the lady standing in for Gwen, communicated with us from early in the morning to make sure check-in was as quick and easy as possible. We also had trouble sending proof of payment and the owner of the guest house was kind enough to hold the reservation until I could sort out the proof of payment. There were also frequent calls and emails to make sure I was aware of the situation. Great job!

Terribly cute cottage with fireplace, braai on porch, DStv for sports, enough heaters to make sure the whole cottage is warm and everything you'll need so you don't have to pack up and bring your entire kitchen. Had a great time away from the city.

Place is tidy, well furnished and very friendly, helpful service.
We got there late on Friday (we were running Om die Dam ultra marathon) and Gwen was still awake and as friendly as ever. The place was in tip top condition and we were so pleased to get back after the marathon to find it spic and span again, we had left in a hurry and it was messy when we left! We also asked to stay longer because we were exhausted and once again, this was no problem for Gwen. We eventually left at 15:00!
Lovely owner, very friendly and helpful. The place is cute and typically German and softly furnished. Even coffee, milk and sugar and other goodies were available for use. We had a lovely, peaceful experience and will definitely go again.

We were a family group of 12 adults attending a wedding in the area. The accommodation was spacious and well appointed. The customer service was great and we will definitely use La Bastide again.

When we first walked into the room, we immediately noticed that the cushion covers on the chairs (inside and outside) and the inside bench were stained and dirty. That made me worry about the bed linen. When we went to bed that night, I picked up my pillow only to find a small scorpion underneath it. The room was also infested with spiders. I did not sleep the entire night - I was too worried about what could crawl into bed with me. The shower was also full of cobwebs, so clearly it was not cleaned recently - definitely not before our stay there. I was really not impressed. Also, the walls are very thin - I could hear my neighbour snore the whole night. Definitely not a restful experience. What a waste of my money.

The accommodation was designed to cater to the varied needs of visitors to the area. Many guests attend weddings at nearby venues, so need a place to spend the night. Others are looking for a break from the city and want to absorb the fresh air, tranquillity and beautiful surroundings.
