105 guests' feedbackIt was simply wonderful! My daughter and I wanted a mother/daughter weekend and the venue was perfect for this. Jeremiah and his team catered to our every need. The food was delicious - our compliments to the chef! We will definitely return and this time we will book some sessions at the spa.
See stars.
Fantastic! The hosts were so attentive with everything! Short drive from JHB and a great spot to decompress. Max the dog was also a great host .
Perfect! Thank you very much!
What a beautiful and unique place! We had a wonderful stay. It's actually an experience rather than just accommodation! The staff were super friendly and catered to all our needs. The food was amazing, and breakfast down by the river was sublime! Such lovely little touches like fresh flowers on the tables and a rose on the cutlery at breakfast - we absolutely loved it! Thank you for a memorable stay.
Friendly and very helpful. The manager is excellent and was always very inviting and assisting. The staff are all very nice and made our stay so calm and relaxing. I hope that going forward, the owners can make some upgrades on small things, just some TLC. Otherwise, it was lovely.
Lovely place with great ambiance, a well recommended get away for a couple.
If you gonna book this place, be sure to know that the pics you see on the web vs. what you actually going to see are not the same, it’s a poorly kept establishment with linen and towels that smell mouldy. The rats in the ceiling at night are insane (the owner told me “What do you expect, there are rats in South Africa). The traffic noise outside is terrible. The owner is a defensive lady who seemed to be looking for a fight when I gave her feedback. I paced up and down in the eating hall until other guests left to confront me (which was a good thing for her cause she would have been super embarrassed if she had verbally attacked me in the manner she did, in their presence). The walls are dusty with cobwebs that have been there for. Sometimes, this shows the lack of proper housekeeping. We were booked for 2 nights but left after one night. Couldn’t even risk taking a shower/bath. Good luck to this 48-year-old establishment. There’s. Loads more I could mention but I’ll leave it here. Oh. Two of many more things. The room my wife and I booked (wife’s birthday weekend) was not the room we chose on the website so the host then decided to give us an upgrade as per the owner. This was decided cause I did not want to stay at that establishment. We took a tour of all the rooms and the drunk host told my wife to hurry up and choose because other guests were arriving (1 more couple). 🤣🤣🤣. The food omg. Disgusting. In my opinion, I’ll never recommend this place.
It really is a gem, staff are very helpful and friendly. The place and food are excellent. If you want to treat your loved one, this is the place. Just note there are no card facilities, so bring cash.
Our hosts were fantastic, food was great and scenery spectacular.
The decor and atmosphere transports you to a different time and world. Loved every minute of our stay! Will absolutely go back there!
Thank you for a wonderful stay. Everyone is extremely friendly and everyone goes out of their way. Thank you that our dog could also come along. Food was excellent with the most delicious treats and in different dining rooms and especially by the river. stunning! Massage also lovely and all very professional. Jeremaih and his team were always helpful. Big thanks to them. Will definitely go again.
It was delicious. Between art and nature and antiques with very personal service from the owner and the manager we couldn't have asked for better. Definitely different and unique. A lovely romantic experience for our 33rd wedding anniversary.
No problems, just issue with final extras payment.
Around every corner there is something "different". The street cafe with its tables and candlelight was a highlight every evening.
Very relaxing, road was a bit noisy, staff was very good and friendly, and food was delicious.
The website does not have enough pictures. It really is a photographer's dream and more can be shown.
Despite continuous rain and loadshedding, the staff went out of their way to make it comfortable for us. At night, we ate by candlelight in the street cafe. Food was tasty prepared. Jeremiah and his team are absolutely worth their weight in gold. Will definitely visit again.
Baie rustig, mooi en deeglik ontspan. Kos is verskriklik lekker en die span is vriendelik en baie hulpvaardig.
Very well done, friendly staff. Loved the decor.
The staff is 5 star. Environment peaceful and beautiful. Food delicious. We can only say WOW. From the time you get there to the time you leave.
Would recommend more activities to do on-site as you have to drive everywhere to do anything. They offer massages but it is a bit expensive as well as their drinks at the little wagon are extremely expensive. The cottage I stayed in was very small compared to the 1 photo you see on their website, but then again, that is probably why they only show 1 photo of the unit. Other than that it is very clean and the staff is amazing. I almost feel bad for complaining about the small stuff.
A lot of effort is put into creating a peaceful atmosphere and you immediately relax as you walk closer. Be ready to dine like a king and be ready for a welcome chat with Charles and Marguerite. Jeremiah and Innocent are stars and are ready for any challenge. The icing on the cake is that I left with a clean, shiny car. Rested and surprised that 4 days flew by so quickly. Definitely see me and my spouse again.
We had a delicious breakfast by the river, phenomenal dinners at a street cafe and it's picture perfect. I definitely recommend it.
Good personal service by the friendly staff. Beautiful surroundings by the river where breakfast is enjoyed. Well located just outside Magaliesburg and close to nice restaurants like Black Horse.
We really enjoyed the breakfast by the river, it gave us an opportunity to "connect" with our adult children again. The accommodation itself was very comfortable and convenient, I would have liked maybe a small fridge in it. Jeremiah who was our host was really very helpful and friendly. We were even surprised when we left on Sunday morning that our cars were washed clean. Thanks for the nice visit.
Is something I would recommend. I just suggest La Provenced Africque pays more attention to cleanliness. It was nice of you to let us choose an apartment. Cleanliness makes one cringe a bit. Curtains can be washed a little. The towels look like floor cloths, although I asked on Saturday morning if we could get other towels it didn't happen. Could really do more with coffee (better quality) and water in the apartments. Bottled water instead of a bottle that only has a doily left. You don't know who's coughing about it, how long it's been there. Massage place is cute, but again, clean towels for each guest would be suggested, especially in the times we live in. You could smell it was used a few times. Comfortable side tables and chairs will also be better than the uneven wire table. The guys were friendly and even cleaned the cars on Sunday.
We stayed there for a weekend and fell in love with the place! The staff were so helpful and kind. Truly a hidden gem.
The rooms vary from simple "cottage" experience to luxurious rooms with "Slipper bath" and four poster bed. The food is also recommended and the dinner in the street cafe has a great atmosphere. It just made us long for Italy!
The staff was 10 out of 10, and the place is just magical. Awesome. Loved every minute of my stay.
Beautiful buildings and rooms, delicious food in the depiction of a French street cafe and music.
We were there for our wedding anniversary and really enjoyed it. Very good location and the rooms were spacious and tidy. Also good customer service and Jermiah the manager was very helpful.
Marguerite and her team are very friendly and helpful and the theme is very well portrayed.
This was the third time we stayed there for a weekend, and mainly because it is such a beautiful place. Great appreciation for the aesthetic value and experience. The meals are disappointing, not value for money, the waffles (dessert) couldn't even be cut with a knife and fork, and Sunday's breakfast, a boiled egg, 4 slices of cucumber, 3 tomatoes, a slice of toast and a muffin. Spur offers better value for money.
Food was delicious, accommodation definitely rustic, but value for money. Perfect for a weekend getaway if you just want to relax.
When we arrived on Thursday afternoon, they did prepare a room for us, very close to the River but it smelled very badly, very mouldy and closed up, curtains not clean and cupboards dirty inside. Then my husband sat on the bed and we knew the bed could not take both our weights, so we kindly asked for another room, which they helped us with at the lodge itself at an extra cost of R400. But on Thursday when we arrived, nothing else was cleaned, the garden was very unkept, but on Friday they had cleaners there. We must say the services from Jeremiah and the food from Innocent was top class. We also felt ripped off, as they offered us each a cocktail with supper and a bottle of sparking wine for breakfast, which cost us an extra R610 Rand for 4 cocktails and a bottle of sparkling wine, which cost R 90 in-store, we are supporting local facilities, but why do they try and rip you off like this? When we booked out the owner didn't even came to sort out our bill, when there was extra charge, Jeremiah had to run up and down to sort it, took over an hour to book out. Very disappointed. There was no price list or anything for you to see the prices on the drinks and the place was really dirty on Thursday and very smelly.
Our stay was wonderful. The place is quaint and the owners and staff made us feel at home. Will definitely make another trip.
The staff impressed us a lot. They were continuously available, very friendly and professional.
The place is beautiful, the people are incredibly friendly and helpful, we had a great time and rested. I would go back any day.
We had a lovely tranquil weekend in beautiful surroundings.
The food baskets are unfortunately a bit expensive for the quantity and quality of the food, and options would be appreciated. Other than that, everything was very nice. The feeling of the place is special. Would definitely recommend it.
La Provence d' Afrique has friendly staff who do everything in their power to make you feel welcome. The food is delicious with large portions.
The staff were friendly and very helpful, it's just a nice atmosphere and probably the closest we'll ever get to Paris, the customer service was excellent as was the food. Definitely recommend it.
We really enjoyed our weekend. The manager and staff went out of their way to make our time and money there worth while. We would love to see the gardens as soon as summer is here. We have never eaten so much. Compliments to the chef! No complaints on our part.
The White linen house was very neat and beautiful. The service was good and very friendly. Host and wife very friendly and it was nice to see such beautiful dogs there too.
La Provence d'Afrque ticked all our romantic boxes positively. From morning to night everything was just wonderful. Breakfast was special by the river. Dinner was like a love story. Jeremiah and his team went out of their way to make our weekend very special.
The French atmosphere is well depicted. Excellent service from staff and tasty meals. The breakfasts by the river were a hit. The staff at the spa were very professional and we enjoyed the location of the spa.
Thoroughly enjoyed our weekend. The service was superb.
La Provence's service is excellent, makes you feel like you are in France, rooms are comfortable (so romantic with their own fireplace) and food is unbeatable. I can definitely also recommend the hot stone massages - best ever. It was just a great weekend of rest and switch off. You will definitely see us again.
Very good service and safe.
It was a treat for my husband for his birthday. The staff were all very friendly and professional. The ladies who did the massage did their job well. We were pleasantly surprised and it was a wonderful experience the decor and output of everything is very good and it really feels like you find yourself somewhere in France.
Spacious rooms and a tranquil atmosphere.
Wow, what can one say? An all-in-one. The best service, food, friendliness, accommodating. Here you can find your soul again. Best place I've ever been for a weekend. Brilliant idea with the picnic basket meal. Food is forward.
Unique accommodation. Something special. Delicious eaten in front of warm fireplaces. Romantic.
Although it's very cold at La Provence d' Afrique, it stays a lovely get away for a romantic couple. The food is lovely and something else. The service is very good and everything is very neat.
Awfully peaceful with fantastic service, place also looks fantastic with the river and finishes of the accommodation.
La Provence d' Afrique is a little piece of French Country style tranquillity just outside the hustle and bustle of Gauteng. The food is delicious and presented in a unique way during every single meal. The team is very professional, friendly and willing to go the extra mile to ensure guests are well taken care of. The full body hot stone massage is to die for. There were so many small surprises that made our weekend truly delightful. I would love to go back annually for a little breakaway.
Great location with very good food and good customer service.
What a wonderful place to recharge your batteries and relax! Beautiful big trees, excellent service and not far from Pretoria.
We celebrated our first anniversary at La Provence and it was wonderful. The staff was very friendly and always willing to help. The food was delicious and we greatly enjoyed our couples massage. We stayed in the La Passion suite, which was very romantic and enjoyed dinner baskets and cheese platters in front of the fireplace. The French street cafe and rest of the interior is also very beautiful and breakfasts alongside the river very relaxing. We had a wonderful weekend away from all the hustle and bustle and will definitely be coming back soon!
They went out of their way to accommodate us. Very friendly staff - lovely place. Attention to detail huge. Thank you for a wonderful weekend. Love the dogs.
See stars.
Not really value for money.
Food and drinks were very expensive. Very expensive for a large family. Self-catering options would be better.
We enjoyed the weekend so much. The accommodation, food, atmosphere was something else. Even the spa experience was wonderful. We will definitely be back in summer. I can just imagine how beautiful it must be in summer. We loved the peaceful, unique atmosphere and everything was spotless and tidy. We can recommend this experience to romantic couples. They ever washed our vehicle before we headed home.
Extremely friendly staff who went the extra mile to accommodate us. This little house is so typical of the French countryside, beautiful, cosy and unique. Delicious meals from a set menu.
La Provence is something completely different with the most beautiful decor. So peaceful and client service is tops. The food was delicious and the make it very special. Definitely a place to recharge your batteries. The breakfast at the river in the mornings were a highlight. The massage we had was lovely.
The service was very good and the staff competent and friendly. Excellent food with especially the breakfast experience by the river something to remember!
Delicious! The lighting in the bathroom could be better, a little difficult to put on makeup if you can't see in the mirror.
The staff at La Provence are absolutely amazing. Jeremiah, Innocence, and Thembani are an asset and the wonderful ladies that gave us the most amazing massages! We stayed in the La Passion room and the decor suits the name perfectly, there are just a few suggestions that I would make, the room could do with new towels and linen and even if the look is 'rustic', it does verge slightly on rundown, it could do with a little TLC and a new coat of paint. We were warned in advance of the road noise, and it does become rather bothersome if you are trying to relax, perhaps thicker curtains to block out some of the noise? The 'pub' outside was wonderful and quaint and we enjoyed your delicious Gluhwein. The tables and chairs in both the pub and the cafe could perhaps do with new tablecloths and covers for the cushions. These are just a few suggestions of an otherwise wonderful experience. The breakfast at the river was wonderful and the dinner in both the cafe and the manor house was relaxed and romantic. Next time we will try one of the cottages, perhaps closer to the river. Thank you for a lovely stay in a unique atmosphere, I can't commend your staff enough.
I enjoyed my stay there and the service was phenomenal. I enjoyed the breakfast by the river and the cute dinner baskets. That was excellent. The rooms were smaller then the images portrayed online. There was not enough lighting. The rooms were a bit too dark for me, other then that I really enjoyed. Thank you.
I think there are better places than this and I think it is expensive for what you get. I didn't like the fact that they didn't have card facilities so I had to drive around to get cash. These days people don't carry so much cash on them.
The weekend away at La Provence d' Afrique was fantastic. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. It was strange being so safe as we are usually behind lock and key in Witbank. Jeremia was always available to find out whether we needed anything. The meals were lovely and the atmosphere very romantic. Breakfast next to the river, dinner by candlelight. It was our tenth wedding anniversary and a weekend we won't ever forget. They did everything to make it extra special. The place is fantastic and so tranquil. We will go back anytime. Even our car was washed before we returned on Sunday.
Beautiful, characterful place to stay with warm hospitality, excellent service and delicious meals. The owner Marguerite Gotthard received us so warmly and treated us like family. It was a great relaxing weekend.
Excellent venue to spend special occasion with special person.
An experience from another world where accommodation, hospitality and atmosphere will not be easily matched. Attention is paid to the smallest detail. We went home in La Passion and it was breathtaking. Our stay at La Provence will forever be etched in our memory as our Romantic French Weekend a stone's throw from Centurion. We just couldn't take in enough of La Provence in our short time there. I will definitely go back again.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary here by spending two nights in the "White Linen" suite. Our whole experience from booking, advance communication and reception was great. Jeremiah the manager received us so professionally and informed us about meals and other arrangements. Marguerite gave us personal attention. The French atmosphere and street cafe as well as picnic baskets by the river create such a pleasant, peaceful atmosphere. All the guests were so friendly and our time together with them was special. The spa treatment was great and did my wife a lot of good. La Provence d'Afrique is definitely recommended.
My stay at La Provence d’ Afrique over New Year’s Eve and New Year’s night was memorable and we will definitely be back as soon as we get the chance. The romantic suite we were in (La Passion) has such interesting décor and ornaments, we were absolutely fascinated as we absorbed the care and thoughtful detail that went into the beautiful and styled décor. It was as if we had stepped into another time and era. The scenery, the river, the forest and the gardens are also stunningly beautiful and tranquil. We were well looked after during our stay, the service we received from Jeremiah, Innocence and the Spa ladies was impeccable. The hot stone therapy Spa massage was wonderfully revitalising. Our privacy was always respected even with the attentive service we received. The food was so tasty that we ate way too much! The evening picnic basket was delicious - a novel idea enjoyed by both of us. Compliments to the chef! For us, La Provence d’ Afrique is so much more than a home away from home - it is a relaxation destination that inspired and enthralled our senses on so many levels. We returned home feeling rested, refreshed and invigorated. Thank you all for your wonderful hospitality at your beautiful La Provence d’ Afrique!
It was a wonderful weekend at a very special place. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The meals were delicious and our breakfast picnic by the river was something I will remember forever.
From the moment you arrive Karl and his staff make you feel so at home and the breakfast served at the riverside is fantastic. Karl, thank you for going out of your way to make our stay memorable.
Service was excellent. Lovely area and atmosphere. Warm water in the morning for a bath would have been nice, but no other complaints.
La Provence d' Afrique was really special with cosy fires everywhere, but the lighting in the room was inadequate. We loved having breakfast down by the river and will definitely visit again.
La Provence d'Afrique was a wonderful experience, the service was excellent and very friendly. I will definitely make it again. It's a peaceful environment, peaceful and beautiful, very good for a romantic getaway.
The entire staff at La Provence d'Afrique make you feel welcome. They attend to all your needs and give a lot of attention to detail allowing you to relax completely in the beautiful surroundings. Our room was very comfortable and was kept very clean. Breakfast at the river was delicious every morning and the dinner basket was also exceptional. Jeremiah deserves a special mention for his excellent and friendly service!
Lovely venue. Staff are awesome. Food is great. Problem is the walls are too thin, you hear everything from the room next door. Road noise from traffic is terrible.
It's a beautiful place, but judging by the price I reckoned we had booked a clean place. Old, black, dusty cobwebs hung from the ceiling and when we asked the cleaner to dust a bit, she just laughed and said, "It's spider season." And no, she then didn't clean it. The throw over our bed was dirty and had mouse droppings on it. The meals in a basket are very impractical. The sauces mixed with everything. And there isn't space on the table to put everything down.
The atmosphere, friendliness and food were good. Just a pity that it is so dark inside and that in my opinion it is unsafe to sleep on the top floor. There are no railings on both sides of stairs, and on the top floor just next to the stairs no railing. I would have converted the living room into a room, and the upper floor into a living room. You don't want to go down those stairs in the dark when you go to the toilet at night!
What a beautiful place. Amazing service, friendly and helpful. Beautiful venue with absolutely Italian atmosphere.
Marguerite very friendly and hospitable, Jeremiah a special person. I found the weekend interesting, the fireplaces in the cold evening and basket of food was delicious.
They have that "something extra"!
A piece of France in Gauteng! Inventive decoration of rooms and cottages, something to experience. Have fun and relax by the river and by the fireplace in La Provence. Friendly staff and delicious food. Goblins Cove for dinner is a must.
Terribly nice stay and eat. The dinner was fantastic and so was the breakfast basket. I stayed in one of the cottages. It's more private than the rooms. The place is near the tarmac, but it didn't bother us at all. Some renovations could be done, but overall we were very happy with the place and would definitely recommend it!
The food was delicious and the service was very good. The best part of our stay was the breakfast by the river and beautiful surroundings. The detached unit was too old and too dark for our liking - although we had been warned. The unit could do with insolation against the cold outside as well as the noise from the nearby busy road.
Very tight. You can barely turn around in the rooms. The bedding is not bright at all. The breakfast was delicious as well as the dinner.
See the ratings.
Wonderful, would stay there again!

We enjoyed the hospitality and everyone made us feel at home and really went out of their way to accommodate us.
Even before our arrival at La Provence, we were already helped by phone to get to the destination. Upon our arrival, the owner kindly awaited us and our room was already in "tip top" condition. All attractions in the area were presented to us and the necessary phone numbers were given to us for any further help, inquiry or arrangements. Jeremiah took care of all our needs as befits a good host. The owner was there every morning with breakfast and talked to each guest to hear if there were any complaints and just to have a good chat. The food is great, people friendly and helpful, and the place clean. It's a fantastic place to relax and recharge. Feel free to take a loved one to the quiet romantic corner!
Despite the fact that I found our cottage a bit dark and not 100% clean, we still enjoyed the view at the river, the street café atmosphere and the different way they do things! The food was very good, a nice experience. Would not however stay longer than one night.
Pure relaxation at La Provence d'Afrique.
Excellent service and food. The massage was also very nice. We had a good rest and the "Dinner Baskets" are a very good idea and very tasty.
Really worth the effort! All I can recommend is that there are more waiters who can serve the guests. Sometimes it can take quite a while to receive your order. Would definitely recommend it.
