The house is old, but many modern features have been added to make it comfortable. An abundance of heaters and an electric blanket on the beds make it warm and toasty during the cold nights. The proximity to the town centre makes it super easy to walk to the stores and enjoy your time browsing the surrounding stores and eateries. Staff were super friendly.
Happy friendly staff, beautiful room and surrounds. Will be back with the hounds next time.

Enjoyed the sport and the braai facilities, there are also friendly staff. The guest house is also perfectly situated for nature viewing.

It is a lovely place with the most beautiful view. It is clean and tidy, but it is a bit dated inside. However, it did not detract from our stay there. The hostess received us warmly and breakfast every morning was carefully prepared. It was very good value for money.

It was a very good experience. The staff were exceptionally helpful. The service was great, and the breakfast was delicious. The location was good, and there were plenty of restaurants nearby. It was very cold, but there were heaters and electric blankets provided for our comfort. We couldn't ask for more.
My husband and I (along with our 2 Dachshunds) really enjoyed our stay at Lake Clarens Guest House. It is situated at the entrance to Clarens and our cottage was cute and cozy. It had a beautiful enclosed garden for our dogs to enjoy. It was clean, had ample space and a very useful kitchenette. It is also close to an awesome walking trail with beautiful walkways and bridges. We will recommend it to any couple, family with kids or people with dogs.

We were welcomed very kindly. The room was nice and warm and cozy with the underfloor heating and the bed warmers in the cold Clarens. We had everything at our disposal. The breakfast was out of the books and lip smacking. We were very satisfied with our stay.

My wife and I traveled from Johannesburg at the weekend to experience some snow, among other things. Although it wasn't snowing at the time, we had a great time relaxing in nature and enjoying a delicious meal.
Lake Clarens is a lovely home in the heart of town - we had a great stay.

Overall the stay was very pleasant, we will definitely book here again as everything including the ladies making the breakfast were fantastic. We didn't feel overwhelmed or crowded even with the other room downstairs. The view from the rooms and porch are amazing and the guest house is just off the main road so you don't have constant traffic coming past. Very quiet and tranquil.
We have been to Clarens a few times. There is no place like Lake Clarens for us. The beautiful house with a breathtaking view of the mountains feels like a piece of paradise. The staff is friendly and you always feel welcome. Hope to visit again soon.

Lake Clarens Guest House is very neat and in a beautiful sandstone building. Close to the town centre. We had a great time here, would only suggest better mattresses, but otherwise it's a really lovely place to stay.
The view was spectacular and the breakfast and ladies making it were amazing, but the unit was rather in need of maintenance and a proper clean. It is a pity because the location is great.
The following can be noted: receiving guests. information regarding breakfast times etc. on arrival etc. Room was spacious but dusty etc. The room was possibly last cleaned with the departure of the last guests which may have been before lockdown. The small top window of main window could not close.

We had a wonderful experience, very scenic view of the mountains from where the guest house is situated. Friendly and helpful staff, that we adored, service was great. Good access to everything, and not far from stores and restaurant. Accommodation very good. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Although we were there in the summer and experienced excellent service, I would definitely recommend the establishment for the winter, underfloor heating, electric blankets, the TV was out of order, but it wasn't the end of the world for us. Fantastic breakfast and friendly, caring staff.
I went with my puppy and they went out of their way to help us to the best of their ability. When I booked there were people who booked the apartment just before me and they gave an alternative option so me and my puppy could still go and at least be in the apartment most of the evenings. The apartment could do with a bit of upgrading so the oven works etc but it wouldn't stop me from going there again. The people were very friendly and despite the fact that room 5 (for the last night) is next to the restaurant, there was no noise until late in the evening. I did worry about security about room 5 only having a sliding door and not a barred gate, but there is also a guard walking around there and the cars etc. look.
It was the second time we stayed here. Always a friendly welcoming and a good location. Excellent breakfast and service.
Lake Clarens is beautiful guest house right across from a dam. So peaceful with an incredible view of the mountains. Pet friendly and provides a delicious breakfast.
We would like to thank the staff for bending over backwards to assist us in a difficult situation. We would also like to thank the owner, Bruce, for the road to Pretoria that he recommended - it was a pleasure to drive the road!
There was no one to receive us, a cleaner asked our name and then wordlessly took us to the apartment. It was neat and clean, but not 4-star. Very old fashioned. The night guard was very friendly and made us feel safe.
Room 5 was not in the guest house but in an adjacent building and badly neglected. The ceiling in the bathroom was falling out due to rain damage. Carpet and bedding were full of stains. Four-star money paid for one-star quality. The owner was willing to move us but had no other accommodation available and he refunded R500. Breakfast was outstanding therefore worth 4 stars.
The house is well located and the room nice and warm. However, the single bed made so much noise when my son moved on it that it was difficult to sleep. Furniture is old and bathroom needs an upgrade, very cold. Cobwebs in the corners of the room and bathroom. We didn't have breakfast there, we weren't sure if it was included.
Thank you for clean and tidy facilities. The breakfast was a bonus and we really enjoyed the piano playing while we had breakfast! Will definitely stay at Lake Clarens again.
Everything excellent. Just need to mention that you automatically assume that room 1 and 2 are next to each other, while room 1 is on the ground floor and 2 on the first floor. 1 is very beautiful, but the fact that it's right next to the dining hall makes it awkward - you can't enjoy the room with the door open, and there's lots of noise when the security guard walks in and out at night and in the mornings when the staff starts preparing breakfast.

Once again the owner is on vacation. Of course we are not all Brad Pitt but in my country when you go on vacation you temporarily close your business. The person in charge of managing the business does not seem to be the most reliable.
The room was very clean and tidy, but a bit tired. The photos created a different impression. Delicious breakfast with a lovely view. Clean car was a pleasant surprise.
Some of the crockery was dirty. Shower floor is flaky. Very difficult to open the cold water tap. Just a trickle of hot water. Next to night club. Very noisy.
Extremely disappointing for a so-called 4 star guesthouse. The room was very confined with a very old TV set. The reception area leads directly into our room so it felt like we had no privacy. No aircon nor fan in the room! In my opinion the place does not deserve any more than a 3 star grading.
I was travelling with overseas visitors. Owner rather aggressive when pointed out some of the deficiencies. I requested preferably single beds. It was not pointed out that the beds were double.
I can't say anything negative about Lake Clarens Guest House - the accommodation was such a pleasure. I stayd there the Thursday night on my way to Lesotho, and didn't think twice to stay there again on Sunday on my way back (just managed to grab the last available room). They only had a 4 star room available on my way back - R150 more than the room I booked on the Thursday. Worth every cent. Thank you very much.
