Critchley Hackle is so beautiful that you almost want to stay there! Most beautiful setting and rooms and ideal for a getaway. Walking distance to everything in Dullstroom.

It was a very short stay, but the room and the view the next morning over the dam was stunning. Great pity about the restaurant not being available. Definitely revisit.
The unit next to the dam was very neat, clean and comfortable. The only unexpected surprise was that, although cleaning services are available, they are not included in the rate unless accommodation is booked directly with the lodge. However, it was not expensive and really enjoyable. We will definitely visit them again.

It was a wonderful experience staying at Lakeside Chalets Critchley Hackle Lodge. Everything was just one word and that "wonderful". The on-site restaurant was just out of business, but at least it gave us the opportunity to eat in town.

Incredible scenery and tranquility close to everything in town. Rooms are clean, spacious and tidy. Karen's friendliness and service is another plus. Will definitely stay there again.

Very peaceful stay with a great view of the man-made lake. We suspect that the view is much better in the summer though. The fireplace was a highlight during the cold nights. The warmth and tranquility of the accommodation could be enjoyed in spite of the harsh winter weather. While we did not intend on watching television, we felt a larger size TV might be a good idea.

All I can say, this is a fantastic stay. Most beautiful view and gardens and an advantage is that you can safely park your vehicle right there and explore Dullstroom on foot. Rose Cottage is nearby and you have a great meal there.
Room was clean and tidy with a beautiful view of the lawn and pond. Lady at the reception was very friendly and always helpful. Dinner and breakfast at the restaurant were deliciously prepared.

The unit we stayed in was spotless and beautifully furnished and decorated. The fireplace kept us warm on the cold evenings. Loadshedding lights made the unit pleasant even when the electricity was off. The staff are friendly and helpful. Will definitely return!
If you want to spoil your buddy, this is the place! Damn cold in winter. Fireplace in the room is lovely. Remember to buy extra wood. If you need somewhere to chill, it's here. An absolute must for a nice getaway.

This piece of paradise can definitely be recommended. Luxurious accommodation, the natural beauty and pond to enchant you and furthermore there is a restaurant on the premises serving the most delicious gourmet dishes.

Beautiful place, inside and out. Restaurant and room are great, decor is beautiful and everything is in perfect condition and clean. The place stands out from the rest. The only criticism I can give is the "loadshedding" battery light in the room which is a huge disappointment. The restaurant has electricity and all the outside lights work while there is "loadshedding", but in the room you have to make do with a rechargeable mobile battery light. By the standard of the place, they can really only put a self-rechargeable light bulb or 2 in the existing lamps and in the bathroom. We've been dealing with loadshedding since 2008 and there are plenty of easy and cheap solutions available that at least provide decent light without breaking the bank. For this reason alone I have to mark the value for money very low, and it's a real shame that something as simple as a light can ruin such a beautiful place. Come on, everyone makes a plan to deal with everyday challenges, you can too. We look forward to booking here again, and trust that this basic requirement will be rectified.

Breathtaking view, tranquil atmosphere, delicous food at restuarant.
The owner gave attention to detail including a specially labeled bottle of red wine for Chalet 4, which we enjoyed by the fire on a freezing cold day 22nd Jan 2022 (summer?). We also enjoyed Sunday afternoon listening to the pianist at the restaurant sipping wine with the most beautiful view of the lake while sheltered from the chillly wind. The position of the lodge is perfect for a county atmosphere but close to the town.
We couldn't get enough of the macaws and ducks on the pond. It was great to take in the peaceful atmosphere and it is a very special place. We were warmly received and immediately felt at home. We will definitely go again!

Lakeside 3 was not ready when we arrived at 4 o'clock Friday afternoon. There were problems with water pipes, the carpet was wet and the bathroom floor was constantly soaking wet. Faucets could not be used.

The unit was well equipped and had comfortable patio furniture with a view of the pond. The room is neat and spacious. The bathroom has a nice big bath and the shower is a bit small, but adequate.

The owners of Lakeside 3 an 4 were readily available when I needed to speak to them.
Extremely neat and clean facilities - the common areas, the gardens and grounds, the room. Friendly and efficient service. What makes Critchley so nice is that you are on the ground with your door and porch looking out onto the pond and garden. Time at home you are not stuck in a room, but you can walk around/sit next to the pond, under the trees, on your own porch or on the terrace at the restaurant. When the weather is cold or wet and you want to be inside, the room has enough space with a fireplace and TV. The large fridge can keep a lot of wine cold and there is a convenient coffee/tea facility. The bathroom is wonderfully spacious with a double sink, shower and very large bath. Critchley is not the cheapest in Dullstroom, but certainly one of the best.
