51 guests' feedbackWe had a wonderful stay. I only wish I could visit longer. The environment/farm is breathtakingly beautiful, it's so peaceful, the cottage is so well furnished. Kirsten thought of everything, really. I can't wait to go back. Everything worked, and we lacked for nothing. A wonderful experience. Thank you very much, Kirsten.
Peace and quiet under big oak trees! Very clean and tidy, very spacious room and nice patio.
My fourth stay at Laughing Waters Farm, the first at Laughing on the Farm (which is now my new favourite!). This cottage is so spacious and inviting. The garden is absolutely gorgeous and compliments the interior - absolutely soul invigorating! Cannot wait for our next visit!
Everything worked in the cottage and it was a comfortable stay. The fireplace warmed the house well and was greatly appreciated. The braai area outside was ideal for breakfast as it was in direct sunlight. We enjoyed the walks and the proximity to wine farms and the villages of Stanford and Gansbaai. We didn't venture further than that.
Beautiful, peaceful environment. Friendly hostess. The scenery and view was fantastic.
My third visit there and second stay at Laughing under the Oaks. Absolute rest for your soul and an indescribable feeling with the huge oak trees that loom in front of you. The gas stove, geyser and fireplace were a great plus during load shedding. Incredibly beautiful fynbos on the walking trails. The farm pond is ideal for a picnic and cooling off on hot days. Boer goats and chickens, birds and the most beautiful horses! Definitely worth a regular visit.
See stars.
Kirsten is a wonderful hostess! We were spoiled with fresh tomatoes, granadellas and too many other things to mention! The rooms are very nicely furnished and there is everything one needs for cooking on the two-plate gas stove. The farm itself is beautiful! It's the ideal place for a farm break. We will visit again soon.
The two nights we spent at Laughing Waters Farm were absolutely heavenly. Our cottage was beautiful and tidy with everything one needs for a comfortable visit. Except for the chirping of birds and the crowing of a rooster, the farm is wonderfully quiet. The smell of protease hangs in the air. There are hiking trails and other things to do on the farm, but it's just as nice to just read, barbecue and rest instead. We will definitely visit again.
It's a beautiful place! One just needs to know about the 18 km dirt road from the start. Not everyone's cars will handle the dirt road that well. We heard about the road after paying our deposit, my car can drive on a dirt road so not a problem for us. We had very little power, there was a fault on the Eskom line, due to there is no signal either. So your people can't get hold of you at all. I think they should be better prepared for situations without power. The gas stove is outside on the porch, maybe bring it in and also buy a kettle for the gas stove, a pot is awkward.
It was a wonderful rest after the year's rush. A farmhouse visit like the old days. Very nice hiking trails. Dogs safe and really enjoyed it. Kirsten, owner, with so much love and care. Thank you very much.
The accommodation was lovely and relaxing. The host was very welcoming. The area is great for guests that enjoy walking. Very beautiful area with fynbos and protea. The birdlife was abundant. In all very pleasant stay.
We had a wonderful time just being away from the day to rut one finds yourself in. I would definitely recommend staying to anyone wanting to get out into the country.
We had a very nice stay. Under The Oaks is a spacious unit with everything one needs. Lovely porch under the oak trees. Our dog was very welcome and had a great time hanging out among shepherds and boer goats. Kirsten and Gerd are very pleasant owners. We had a wonderful stay.
We had a fantastic stay at Laughing Waters - what a great place to relax and explore the area and surroundings. Kirsten is a lovely host and the children still rave about their encounter with her horses, their new dog friends and swimming in the dam on top of the mountain. We will definitely be back!
The owners are wonderful hosts and the cottage is really lovely and well equipped to make one's stay comfortable. The farm is huge and we enjoyed the 40-minute hike to the dam, as it was very scenic and the other hike in the fynbos at the back of the cottage was also really lovely and scenic. Thanks for a great stay Kirsten and for also putting up with our barky dog (Donny), but he had a great time there too!
This weekend away was just what we needed. Laughing Waters provided good food for the soul and it's a weekend I won't soon forget. The service was good, and we immediately felt welcome. The units are typically farm, but with everything you need. Thank you Laughing Waters for the opportunity to relax and heal with you. Your horses are so cute. Sunshine has a cute personality. Next time I will definitely spend more time with the horses. Thanks for everything. Definitely see you again soon! Can not wait.
My husband and I were in the studio suite. It is very well furnished and tidy. Kitchen fully equipped. Our friends were in one of the other cottages. Very nice view and space.
In this messed up world, Laughing Waters is a welcome respite of fresh air, far horizons, beautiful proteas, wildflowers, swimming pond, mountains, and hospitality.
The weather was fantastic. The surrounding towns are close by and you can go out for the day and return to this peaceful place where you can just stop and breathe.
Thank you very much Laughing Waters Farm for a lovely weekend break. The farm is a perfect distance from Cape Town for a quiet getaway (about a 2 hour drive) and the dirt road to the farm is excellently maintained. The farm has the most beautiful walking routes past the farm horses and goats, through fynbos and a beautiful protea plantation to a neat pond that is safe to swim in. All the facilities are pet-friendly, if arranged in advance, and the hostess is always available to share more about the farm. We will definitely be back again!
Having a disabled partner and trying to find suitable accommodation at an affordable rate for old timers, is difficult to say the least. Kirsten and Gerd made us feel so welcome. The accommodation was easy to reconfigure to fit with my partner's needs and we enjoyed a time of peace and quiet. Good food for the soul!
Hosts were good. My recommendation is that a microwave would have been perfect as you cannot warm your food in the oven. Otherwise it was a good peaceful weekend. Exactly what we needed after the hustle and bustle of city life.
Had a lovely few days away.
Loved the country drive to get there. Accommodation very clean and spacious. Lovely works around the farm.
The hosts were friendly and very accommodating. It was exactly what we needed to rest! Thank you!
Nice self-catering cottage with beautiful views. Comfortable and cosy. Down to earth.
What an awesome place! We where greeted by a gentle giant named Magenta and what an awesome dog she is. Our Friday evening dinner was prepared for us by Kirsten seeing that we checked in a bit late. So we didn't have to worry about where we are going to find food. And it was delicious. The cottage was lovely with everything we needed. We had a sleepover with Magenta the Saturday night and she is such a sweetheart. We had such a good rest, just what the doctor ordered. Thank you so much to Kirsten and the family for the awesome hospitality we received. You will definitely see us again.
The farm is remote and there is a very long dirt road. Hostess is friendly, but none of the activities indicated on the internet were available at all. The cottage was too shabby for our taste, without the little things that promote comfort and the shower was grossly indecent. Some guests write very positively in the guest book, but there are also many pages torn from the guest book. Definitely not everyone's ideal place! In our opinion, the price per night is far too high compared to other self-catering farm accommodation that we also use.
Laughing Waters is an ideal farm for a weekend getaway. Guests are among the farm activities, but the privacy is still enough. The area is idyllic and there are beautiful walking routes and great protea and fynbos lands.
What a privilege to spend some time, way too short, on this stunning farm and cottage. Horses, dogs and kids are adorable. Kirsten and Get were amazing and we were really spoiled. We will definitely be back to smell the fresh air and spend time on this amazing farm and cottage.
Laughing Waters is a beautiful little gem tucked away in the heart of the Overberg. Kirsten and her family are fantastic hosts, and the accommodation is just perfect for a country getaway. With plenty to keep everyone occupied, from picturesque walks to the multitude of farm animals, Laughing Waters is the perfect place to unwind and relax, where doing nothing never felt so good. The 2 sleeper unit is spacious, well equipped, with spectacular mountain views, and ideal if you're looking for a pet-friendly holiday destination.
My family and I spent a wonderful few days at Laughing Waters Farm. What a peaceful spot, beautiful surroundings, and incredibly warm, friendly, accommodating and generous hosts (Kirsten and family). We hope to be back soon!
We really enjoyed the silence, rest and fynbos walking path. The owners were very friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed it. We can highly recommend it.
My wife and I felt welcome before we even left for our short trip from Cape Town to the Stanford area. Kirsten and Gert communicated with us before our arrival and we were warmly greeted when we arrived at their lovely farm. The peace and quiet with magnificent hilly surroundings of forest and fynbos were just what we were after. The tinkling of goat bells, bird song and the gentle rustling of the giant oak trees in the garden ensured that it didn't take long to feel right at home. We enjoyed the space and the freedom to move about on the various walking and MTB trails with gentle or challenging options. In short, we will be back. Especially once the proteas are in bloom.
We really enjoyed our stay at Laughing Waters. The outside kitchen was a big hit.
A superb getaway for two.
We were pleasantly surprised with the accommodation, very spacious room, and the electric blanket, wood fireplace was a bonus in the wet, cold weather. The gravel road was in surprisingly good condition. Plunger coffee was a wonderful surprise, just a pity there wasn't a microwave to heat up meals, maybe I misread it on the description. The staff were very friendly. We will stay there again!
Had a great time on the protea farm. The spacious cottage has a fantastic porch with the most beautiful old trees, beautiful walking paths and wonderful hospitality.
At Laughing Waters you are received and welcomed in a quiet, friendly atmosphere and environment. Then walk into a beautiful, neat and well-equipped apartment. You feel at home and relaxed.
Not what I expected - the dam etc that looks like within walking distance which it is not, and your view is straight into a vegetable tunnel
Owners are very accommodating and friendly. Cottage spacious, pretty, clean and well-equipped.
It was one of the most memorable evenings at a guesthouse, just a pity we only stayed one night. Would you like to explore the farm better, but definitely next time! Do yourself a favor and stay there for a quiet getaway!
The hospitality and friendliness coupled with the warmth that we received was unbelievable. Wish we could've spent more time there. Perfect place if you are looking for silence and tranquillity. Very nice braai area.
We had a fantastic stay over our wedding weekend. Laughing Waters is clean, spacious, very nicely decorated and very comfortable. The owners are friendly and very welcoming.
What a treasure we found here! Kirsten and Gert are so hospitable and welcomed us with open arms. On arrival there were fresh vegetables and eggs waiting for us in the kitchen, which they grew on the farm and always offer their guests. Freshness beyond compare. The place is so beautifully equipped and everything is in place. The patio is wondeful. We invited our family to the place to come and eat Christmas dinner and must say it was top notch. You can drive around on the farm if you have a 4x4, and it is especially nice if you go to the dam at the top of the mountain for a quick swim.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Laughing Waters. The farm is beautiful, the accommodation is high quality (the bed is VERY comfortable), Kirsten and Gerd are very friendly and accommodating. The personal touches - freshly laid eggs, rusks, handmade soap, honey and flowers - were really appreciated. I enjoyed my walks on the farm with the friendliest dogs ever. I will definitely be back.
We love the place. Kirsten was very accommodating and friendly. The place was beautifully set out and equipped.
We enjoyed our stay at Laughing Waters very much - beautiful views all around, awesome outside kitchen and fynbos to welcome you. High quality and comfort is what you can expect from Laughing Waters, with a personal touch that will make you feel at home! Thank you for the unforgettable weekend, Kirsten!
Laughing Waters is the perfect place to get away from the city and head to the mountains, nature and peace. The décor of the cottage is beautiful. Kirsten went to a lot of trouble with beautiful proteas, milk, eggs and a lovely gas heater to make the cottage cosy. The area is fenced in and our dog enjoyed the space and was safe! We went walking on the farm and it's ideally located! We will definitely recommend Laughing Waters for a lovely weekend farm getaway!
Thanks Kirsten. Emma, our schnauzer, and us had a great time. Long walks among the proteas and long chats on the patio.
