We had a wonderful stay at Leureet! Farmhouse in the middle of nowhere. Dead quiet with only a few sheep for company. We went with a motorcycle, so luggage space was limited, but we found all the facilities we needed there, even wood and flash. There is no power, so take a battery bank with you. We stayed in the cottage and I would recommend it to anyone.
Lovely stay on the farm. The tastiest meat could be bought on the farm to grill! Thank you. Lovely large farmhouse on a working farm. Indoor braai was convenient to braai in the evenings. Tina is very nice and answered all our hordes of questions. We could walk around the farm. We probably enjoyed Jackie, the puppy, the most! He is too dear! We will definitely want to come again if we want to be in Nieuwoudtville. Have to say, your bed slept wonderfully! No cell phone signal, but in case of emergency you could use WiFi at the farmstead. It didn't bother us at all!
The Veldhuisie was well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable self-catering stay, in a safe and pleasantly isolated environment. Everything was tidy, clean, and fresh. Warm, sunny, slightly breezy weather was perfect for 3 days over August/September. The outdoor shower was great just before sunset with the warm sun shining through the plastic shelter, as was the outdoor braai under the stars. The last 2 km of road to the Veldhuisie is best with a high clearance vehicle, but with a little road engineering, our Camry got in and out a couple of times well enough. Our host and hostess were both most welcoming and helpful.
When I was looking for accommodation, I was so charmed by the beautiful photos that I never read the description of the Veldhuisie. Great was my surprise when Tina, the hostess, asked if we were ready for a few nights without electricity and cell phone reception. Just as great was Tina's surprise that I had no idea about the specific details! However, full of false bravado, I assured her that it was perfectly fine - after all, I am a rough, coarse man and could easily do without the luxuries of normal society. With a few bags of wood, battery lights and directions, a sympathetic Tina sent us into the wilderness. The Veldhuisie was literally in the middle of nowhere. Indeed, there was no electricity, and my cell phone could not even make an emergency call. The only sign of civilization was a windmill some distance away. At least everything looked like in the pictures. It was deep dusk by then and bitterly cold, so I immediately built a fire in the large fireplace/braai. After a nice hot cup of coffee thanks to the gas kettle and a crackling fire in the fireplace, we were warm and over the worst shock. After a giggle about how I had overlooked some pretty important information, the total silence and tranquility of the Veldhuisie and surroundings dawned on us. And it was fun! But the biggest surprise would come a little later when nature literally and figuratively called and we had to walk to the outdoor toilet: it was so dark that when you close your eyes, there is no difference. Until you look up and are greeted by the most beautiful, clearest and most stars you have ever seen in your life. It's so clear that you can see the Milky Way! We stood with our heads back and watched the spectacle until the cold and sore necks persuaded us to re-enter. And that's where we realized that we weren't the only inhabitants of the Veldhuisie - on the wall was a lizard as big as my hand that stared at us curiously. We stared back - what else can you do? After all, we are in his area! He later made peace with his new roommates and went back to the roof to do what lizards do. Later that evening we would have the same experience with a terribly cute vole. We fell asleep that night in a bed with crisp sheets, warm coals glowing in the fireplace, and silence and peace around us. And a lizard in the roof. The Veldhuisie allowed us to escape for a few evenings from the noise and hustle and bustle of society. It was so nice to be able to focus on each other without any interference from beeping cell phones or blaring TVs. And when you stand under the stars like this and marvel at yourself, all your problems and worries feel very far away. It was really an experience we didn't realize we were missing.
Tina dropped by and informed about current developments in the Northern Cape which was very informative. Her short visit was special and our welcome made us feel enthusiastic.
Amazing, peaceful stay in a beautiful location.
Had a nice stay, unfortunately we were too early for the beautiful flowers in the area. (mid Aug 2024). Most of the rain fell in July and it wasn't warm enough yet, but we will definitely return again!
Wonderful earplugs! We were received very hospitably and really enjoyed the silence of the farm.
We enjoyed our stay.
We really enjoyed the seclusion in the field house.
Delightful rustic accommodation on a farm. Three of our party enjoyed the farm feeling, but one felt it was too rustic. A grab handle in the shower would be a plus.
Did not like the place or the hosts, they need to learn about hospitality service, the client is first and don't just start a place just because you're in a popular destination.
Such a lovely comfortable stay in a tastefully decorated original farm house. Great Karoo hospitality and plenty of space to walk and enjoy the fresh Karoo air, big skies and great birding too! We enjoyed beautiful Karoo lamb from the farm on our braai, with a view of a beautiful sunset and later, a sky full of stars. A memorable stay!
Gas equipment makes you independent of Eskom. No internet and cell phone signal is just a bonus on total escape from the city.
Tina immediately made us feel at home and she and Jacques were happy to share their knowledge of the area with us. The house is very well equipped and we lacked nothing. Will definitely stay with Leeuriet again if the opportunity presents itself.
Tina & Jacques are the most hospitable people. They welcomed us with open arms and hearts. If you are looking for a getaway, then Veldhuisie is for you. Perfect for 2 people, no one will bother you here. No catch which means you switch off properly. We used it as a base for flower viewing in the area.
Lovely visit in the peace and quiet of Leeuriet. Beautiful farm. Braai places at the back of the stoep, wonderfully sheltered, could have fun there despite the cold. Tina is a nice hostess, with information about the area too!
Grandpa's houses are comfortably furnished with everything that is essential.
The house is clean and tidy and spacious and has everything one could need. We received a very friendly and warm welcome and we would have liked to stay even longer. We recommend Leeuriet to one and all.
The farmhouse has been beautifully restored!
Tina is hospitable and goes out of her way to meet our needs. It's safe on the working farm. The farm workers are friendly. It's a big farmhouse with solar power. I am taller than 1.8 m and sleep uncomfortably on a bed with a high footboard.
Tina made an effort to make sure that everything was ok during the 2 days we were there at home. Thank you very much for your hospitality, Tina.
Went home in Springbok house. Lovely spacious with everything needed. The double bed could easily be firmer, because we kept rolling right to the middle.
We booked the Veldhuisie knowing it had an outside bathroom. We really liked the old house with the hearth inside. Stofie with nice big fridge and good bed, but, the bathroom - shade-net roof and sails on both sides. Our first day was stormy with strong wind and rain and it was wetter in the bathroom than outside. It's just not usable in bad weather. A shame really, because we loved the seclusion and the silence.
Was interesting, could do with a bench or chairs for outside seating.
New establishment and has "teething problems" which is understood and should thus be priced a lot cheaper! Also no Wi-Fi or cell phone reception.
House is well equipped and the combination of solar, gas and generator energy caters for all one's needs. The location is within easy reach of all the must see attractions in the Nieuwoudt area and would be special at any time of the year and not just the flower season. Highly recommended. Being able to walk in the veld on the farm enabled one to experience the environment in the best way possible.
The Leeuriet house is well-equipped and very spacious. We were able to go for walks on the farm. It was far enough off the road to feel like a farm stay but close enough to Nieuwoudtville to make visiting the spring flower attractions easy.
Big, spacious and beautiful house. Lots of space and friendly people. My son sat and worked in the garden of the main house as he needed internet. The fact that we have no signal at home didn't bother us.
Thoroughly enjoyed the stay, everything was clean and comfortable. However, WiFi is limited and only available at the main house so if it's important to people, it might be a problem.
Friendly welcome. House was very neat and clean with everything we needed for our stay. The solar system and how to fit into it worked 100% and gave no discomfort or problems. Tina and Jacques are really pleasant people. I look forward to your campsite which should be ready by next flower season.
Jacques and Tina are warm and hospitable. All facilities are available, clean and tidy. Leeuriet is definitely also a family destination.
This is the ideal accommodation for 2 or 3 couples. Excellent kitchen and room facilities. Great space!
House on solar power. Generator power from 18:30 to 21:30 and on morning of our departure for ladies to use a hair dryer. Good amount of crockery and cutlery. Bed in main bedroom not comfortable.
We were kindly received by Tina who also went out of her way throughout to keep us informed of where to go to see flowers. Comfortable large farmhouse with beautiful antique furniture. We really enjoyed the farm feel and would have liked to have stayed longer. Will visit again.
The guest house is very neat and clean and there is everything you need. The owners provided delicious lamb chops and sausage as we had arranged in advance. The entrance to the farm is just not very clearly visible from Calvinia's side because that road is quite busy and one cannot drive too slowly, nevertheless we noticed it when we drove past it. Thank you very much for the good stay! We would love to visit you again.
Friendly hostess and host. Only solar power and no cell phone signals, giving a lovely break from the hectic city life.
We had a lovely overnight stay in the nicely furnished farmhouse. Everything you need is there, top, neat and clean. Good base to explore wonderful nature in the area.
Clean and Covid-safe.
It is the ideal stopover for a Namaqualand traveler. In nature, on the farm - with everything that people need. Thanks for the warm log fire on the cold wet night!
Neat, friendly and can recommend Leeuriet.
Grandma's old worldly house, with room for a lot. Nice stopover between North West and Cape Town. Would be a lovely flower viewing base, absolutely central. We will definitely try to come back for this year's promised spectacle.
Neat and pleasant overnight stay or perhaps for a few days' visit to enjoy the silence and farm life. We do it again.
The house is well equipped with everything needed for self-catering accommodation.
Calm atmosphere. Friendly people. Will definitely go again. Would be happy if there could be WiFi.
We had a nice ride home but struggled with the GPS coordinates which took us on an old road and drove us 40 km wrong before we turned around and realized we were going wrong. The solar power needs to be upgraded so that there is always power available for guests and there are no restrictions on it.
