Leopard Valley Eco Retreat is a fantastic, modern getaway. The walking route is comfortable and breathtakingly beautiful. The cottage has everything you need to stay comfortably for a weekend.
Unforgettable, unbeatable, neat, tasteful, location great, for nature lovers!
What an awesome place, wow!
This beautiful spot is perfect for a getaway. It's quiet with great views. The cabin has all the basics and is well maintained.
What an experience and best service ever. Will definitely stay there again.
We were met with so much kindness, enthusiasm and hospitality. All our needs were looked after or provided for. My boyfriend and I had such a great stay. The views and surroundings were breathtaking.
Leopard Valley will see me again soon for sure! The most hospitable people who make an effort and the units are just like in the photos, perfect, clean, lovely!
A truly magical stay. We left the city in search of flowers and near the end of our trip Leopard Valley provided us with the perfect place to truly rest and enjoy the serenity of nature. Everything was clean, well decorated and comforting.
Perfect getaway for a week!
Thank you very much for your extra effort to make our weekend special.
Beautiful view over the valley, you are truly in the mountains. It's pretty modern and feels very special with a nice bed and nice linen, lovely big gas heater and tasteful wooden furniture inside. Kitchen is well equipped with gas appliances (no microwave due to solar power) with a good layout. Nice big windows for a view of the mountains from your bed. Outside is a nice hammock, braai area with 'fire pit' and braai. Then there is another nice dining table and a wind-sheltered bench with nice cushions next to the 'hot tub' on the deck. Lukas, the manager, helped us start the distillery and also built 'steps' for our old ones to get in and out of the bath more easily. Everything was great except the wood which is really poor quality and hard to burn. Apparently purchased and quite expensive. Definitely bring your own wood if they still haven't changed 'burn'. There is also a 3.2 km walking trail that starts at Cape Canary, where we stayed. We stayed two nights and it was a lovely break, torrential rain notwithstanding. Would definitely recommend, was exactly what I wanted.
Apart from the rain causing hassles upon arrival, the team assisted us to get settled, and the rest of our stay was exquisite.
Absolutely loved our stay! Will definitely be back in the future.
If you want to use the kol kol, ask if they can heat it early. It takes 4 hours to warm up.
Very nice. Was peaceful, beautiful and needed nothing more or less.
Yes, it was great.
Enjoyable and peaceful. It was a great off-the-grid experience.
We had a wonderful relaxing stay. Everything was as advertised, and the service provided by the team was excellent. Great location and very comfortable accommodation. We will definitely visit again.
Was amazing with breathtaking views.
Awesome. Our unit was very private. We had a whole big farm pond all to ourselves. Cottage well furnished. We were just afraid to make fire. The fire area was not well sheltered. The wind blew a little. With all the recent wildfires, we were just being careful. I would really like to stay there again.
Definitely a wonderful getaway in nature.
From the moment we arrived, the place exceeded expectations. Having stayed at several cabins before, we were often disappointed by the cleanliness, but here everything was spotless. We couldn’t fault a thing. The Cape Canary Cabin is the most secluded of their accommodations, and we couldn’t have been luckier. It’s a birder’s paradise—during our stay, we spotted 25 different bird species right from the porch. Seeing the Yellow Bishop and Cardinal Woodpecker were definite highlights. Heating up the hot tub took some effort at first, especially while the weather was still chilly, and we ended up spending quite a bit on wood to get it going. However, once the weather warmed up, it became much easier to maintain, and we fully enjoyed relaxing in it. There’s a lovely 3.2 km beginner’s hiking trail just down the road from the cabin, perfect for taking in the region’s vibrant floral displays. While there is a public road about 150 metres from the cabin, it wasn’t an issue for us, as it remained relatively quiet during our stay. If you plan to visit, be sure to pack enough food, board games, and books for the quieter days. That said, the town is close enough if you need to make a quick trip for supplies. Overall, we had an unforgettable stay and would highly recommend it.
Had a really nice stay. Would recommend and possibly stay again in the future.
We had a very nice stay. Even if the weather was bad. There was plenty of wood, it's just a shame we didn't have a hot tub.
Accommodation was cute. The hot tub did not make water hot enough, which was a big disappointment for my son. That was the whole reason why we wanted to go there.
Absolutely stunning! A late night bath under the stars, morning coffee on the deck watching the sun rise, what a memorable weekend away!
Really enjoyed that you guys cater for a more modern stay in Cederberg that contrasts all the old school 'Dutch-styled' housing very well. A refreshing stay!
Unforgettable three nights in Leopard Valley with our dogs and children. The outside hot tub was lovely. Only negative is that the road is quite noisy at times.
Team was very accommodating, especially Lukas. Had some issues with our tent on the first night (electricity, hot water, WiFi), but the team tried to rectify and restationed in one of the cabins for the second night. Suggestion: Start the fires for the hot tub prior to guest arrival.
If you need a break from busy city life or even just want to recover, this is the place for you. The WiFi was unfortunately down during our time, but luckily we had mobile phone reception (Vodacom). The place could do with a spatula and champagne glasses. The view is breathtaking.
Great stay with a great view. The accommodation is well-equipped and pleasant.
Neat and well laid out. From the wooden deck with 'hot-tub' and comfortable couch you can lose yourself in the breathtaking scenery. We were received kindly and if needed just a phone call away. We had a great time relaxing - here you can come and breathe. Thank you Leopard Valley Eco Retreat for the beautiful stay in your 'pods'. It's in nature - so take the necessary precautions against the elements (insect cream, sunscreen).
Our stay was amazing, just what the doctor ordered to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, batteries reloaded, almost overcharged.
The place is lovely, but there is a road that runs right through the farm and instead of birdsong, you wake up with the sound of trucks and traffic. The manager is just a lovely, lovely guy. If not for the road, I would be back in an instant, but sadly not the peace I was looking for. I also did not feel safe on my own with the road so close.
Maybe the expectations were too high. Sharing the bathroom facilities was not expected. Would have liked a few marked walking trails.
Such a nice stay! Lovely place to relax.
Really nice stay, definitely relaxing. Most beautiful getaway weekend. Would 110% recommend, especially if one wants to get away from busy city to switch off. The nature is picturesque. Everything is done there, just pack your bag and go.
It was really a lovely place. Good attention to detail, really well fitted out. Gorgeous surroundings. Only one let down, seeing and hearing the road so close by
Modern, clean and very tidy. The layout of the cottage offers privacy and is perfectly laid out for a romantic and intimate getaway. The candles and lanterns around the hot tub, the extra warm blanket and heater are all thoughtful "extras" that make the stay that much more comfortable and special. The cottage is completely "off-the-grid" and the owners have considered every aspect to be 'eco' and aware of the environment or nature. The cottages are located in a beautiful valley away from the noise and although it was close to a road, only a few vehicles passed by. The sounds of water and birds quickly drowned out the sound of vehicles. I would advise to maybe take Tabard with you because the mosquitoes bit us quite a bit. Other than that, perfect weekend getaway! We will visit again.
See stars.
We arrived just as the sun set on Friday evening, with a courtesy visit from local security services as accessed the property. A lovely warm fireplace and a well-appointed kitchen made for easy meals and cosy nights. However, the chief strength is the view, also partially reflected in the pond, a good few birds to spot, the odd Cape Mongoose and plenty of secure space for our two border collies to explore, with protea garden beginning to take shape. Only two drawbacks which hardly bothered us: slightly close to the road which is used only by the occasional car and delivery truck. Also, I would have liked some trails into the mountains, but I believe that's in progress.
Beautiful location, within the mountainous valley surrounded by the sound of running water, it was a restful stay and the accommodation itself was unique and well presented. Nice hot tub and all necessary amenities.
It was a lovely break from the city. Would love to visit again anytime, but for a bit longer. The cottage had everything we needed and the service was excellent.
The Cabin has a charming off-grid/farmhouse feel but with all the modern amenities you would expect from a hotel in the city. The stars and quiet will wrap you in a blanket of serenity, truly a hidden gem in the Cederberg Mounains.
Nice view, lovely fireplace, warm beds, nice walk. Houses are beautifully designed indoors. Everyone enjoyed it, as did our dog!
Quiet, beautiful surroundings and best service!

The scenery and levels of comfort on offer are truly spectacular. Benjamin went out of his way to make sure our stay was enjoyed.
Beautiful place but the wind was unpleasant.
We liked the privacy and view. The dam to swim in was wonderful.
Very well equipped cabin. Few kitchenware e.g. spatula and steak knives, but everything one needs is there! Wifi is excellent. Enough blankets, fireplace and firewood. Ensure value for money. If I have to say something negative, it's that it's a shame it's so close to the road. The lorries honked at each other and disturbed the glorious silence.
It was a lovely time.
Very cute 'container' house where you have a break from 'loadshedding'. Really enjoyed the hot tub, only found it took a bit longer to heat up - but what a view! Benjamin who welcomes you is very friendly and helpful and just a text away! Thank you for letting us experience the beautiful mountains from your little house!
Apart from the wind which bothered a little, it was a lovely weekend away. It's a perfect place for a getaway from Cape Town with more than enough in the area to do or just hide away from the world!
Very nice place to connect with nature. I will definitely recommend it.
The stay was excellent, thank you very much!
Leopard Valley is a lovely getaway in the mountains. The houses are built from "containers" and completely off Eskom power. So there was never load shedding and also no problems with internet or mobile reception. The houses are very well furnished and very tidy. Each also has an outdoor bath that can be heated.
Not much to do around the area but our dog had a great time roaming free. I was a little worried that there was no fence around the place to the road but all was without incident.
What an absolute find in the Citrusdal area. Silence and stars like our family hasn't experienced in a long time, and the added bonus of a fire-heated Jacuzzi. Hammock to read in book, and well appointed unit made from old shipping containers. Interior is modern and well laid out. "Off-the-grid" at its very best! Solar power and WiFi with lovely vistas over the mountains.
If you want to have your peace and quiet it is the place to go but remember it is self-catering as the next shops and restaurants are quite a way away.
We had a great time, peaceful and romantic place. Will definitely go again one day, very good value for money.
Beautiful place, lovely views, excellent accommodation. Only thing lacking was we had no corkscrew in the unit, but we asked and had one dropped off very quickly. A few bulbs needed replacing in the unit too - perhaps a more thorough check after checkout in the future would just add that extra touch. We had a fantastic weekend though.
Leopard Valley Eco Retreat's service and friendly welcome immediately made us feel at home. If I HAD to say something negative, I would suggest that you bring your own wood. There is not much wood available. The wood fire bathtub uses quite a bit of wood because it's nice and big. Other than that we can't complain, amazing location and weather we had. Absolutely worth the drive and money.
Stay was fantastic except that unfortunately they couldn't sort out any hot water for us.
Remarkably friendly support team who genuinely care about the environment and local community.
We had a great time to rest which is exactly what we were needing. Our bathroom facilities were a bit small.
Definitely need to pack wood if you are from South Africa and like to barbecue.
We have booked the 2 nights stay at Leopard valley for our 6 months wedding anniversary (very excited). On arrival the retreats manager welcomed us with a few rules on the property and how to manage the wood fire jacuzzi. The fire in the box was already lighted up for the jacuzzi even though the water inside was still cold. One of the guys, I guess who works for the retreat informed us that it takes up to 2 hours to get the water to a temperature that is enjoyable. With this we have conclude that we will need a lot of wood as it takes 2 hours. When we were on our way to the retreat, I asked the manager if there is enough wood for us to braai on arrival and he confirmed the home is “fully equipped” on arrival there was a 7kg bag of wood and inside the bag was 7-8 pieces of wood and with that amount of wood we had to get the jacuzzi to an enjoyable temperature and make a fire to braai our food. So, I sent a WhatsApp to the manager explaining to him that we do not have enough wood and his response was that they have given us a bag and that it is enough for the jacuzzi, I asked him what about the braai? He then said that the delivery didn’t come for the wood and that he would notify me when there will be wood. This was very frustrating to us as we were promised that the unit was fully equipped. Now we had to sit and wait for wood to arrive for us to start a fire and braai our food. 4 hours later I sent the manager a message again and ask him where the wood is as we would like to start our weekend without people and enough wood to get the jacuzzi hot and braai our food, his response was that they are still waiting, we only received a small bag of wood 8PM Friday night, by that time we have decide that it is to late and cold out side so we made a platter inside and enjoyed it in the jacuzzi as we had to use the second bag of wood to finally get the jacuzzi hot. . Our first night without our 2 little boys and we were ready to have a good night’s rest unfortunately that did not happen as my wife, and I could not sleep as we kept turning in the bed as the mattress in the room was not up to standard and both of us could not sleep as we had back pain and to top that the retreat is right next to a road where trucks and cars would pas right through the night. The main reason we wanted to break away is to get away from the city life. . I would recommend it to friends, but I would also have to tell them about our experience at the retreat.
Not ideal for older people like us (mid 70s). The steps up to the stoep are quite steep and there are no handrails. The hammock is in a dangerous position right on the edge of the raised stoep, if someone were to fall out (not impossible) there would be a fall of about 2m to the ground. The braai facilities were very basic for South Africans who make this a priority!
