At Liedjiesbos Urban Olive Farm we are passionate about making a difference in saving the environment that we live in. This way of thinking inspired us to plant only indigenous plants and to do things as organic as we possibly can.
We started planting hundreds of indigenous trees and shrubs in 2008 and will continue doing so all the time. What used to be agricultural land will eventually be an indigenous bush that will be home to many species of birds, insects and other small animals. From there the name Liedjiesbos (songs coming from inside the bush). The call of nature will be heard again!
The buildings on the property used to be barns that was turned into something more functional for our needs and are now beautiful architectural structures that blend well into the landscape. The architects Jan and Petria Smit designed the buildings to use as little energy as possible for heating, and cooling of the interiors. Most of the original building materials where re-used or recycled, and energy saving devices and solar geysers where also installed to reduce our carbon footprint.
The interiors reflects the owners love for art, antiques and travel. The décor is a blend of old and new, African, Egyptian, Chinese, Vietnamese and more. All this creates an interesting environment with a chic, yet well lived in, and comfortable feel.

Liedjiesbos is on the outskirts of the city in a farm setting. It's very peaceful, you really hear nature. A lot of effort has also been put into the decor and comfort of guests, everything is perfect. Lovely breakfast available. All staff very friendly and helpful. This was our 2nd visit, and we will go back again and again.

We usually sleep over at Liedjiesbos if we go to a wedding without our children. Have stayed twice and have not been disappointed again. The fact that Liedjiesbos is located on a farm makes it a very peaceful stay. The garden charms with all the plants and bird life, with a beautiful farm dam swimming pool. Yet this accommodation is so centrally located in the central business area. The bedroom has the same luxury as any 4-star hotel.
Liedjiesbos really lives up to its name with all the beauty around you - the hospitality, the decor, the birds singing early in the morning and what else!

It was our second time here and even more beautiful than before because the lush, extensive garden and the many birds. The beautiful finishes and the attention given to every detail are special and are not found like this everywhere! A real treat.
Our stay at Liedjiesbos was one of the highlights of our trip. Administration, staff, facilities and atmosphere are of excellent quality. We were able to relax wonderfully before bed with a glass of good red wine by the fireplace. Everywhere it smells so delicious and the proximity of birds and beautiful music will surprise you. There is a luxurious large bath, but the super high sink is built for the tall Free State men! Breakfast also provided surprises. Plate cookies elegantly served with fruit, mascarpone and honey, followed by a hot dish with a choice between salmon or traditional boerewors breakfast. It is expensive, but worth budgeting for for a special occasion. We would love to experience the luxury again!
