40 guests' feedbackQuaint little cottage with original features and rustic charm. Comfortable warm beds, ample appliances and kitchenware for a short stay, cute Dover stove to provide some heat in winter. Easy walking distance to restaurants and planetarium. Please note that the cottage is rustic and intimate, no WiFi or TV, and bathroom privacy is limited. We loved it though, and the hot water on demand was brilliant. Sports can be watched at the Boorgat bar across the road. Such an interesting place. The lamb shank at Karoo Kombuis at Sutherland Hotel is delicious. Lanie is a superb hostess! She was responsive and available and answered all our questions promptly. Had a lovely stay and will certainly be back.

It was a lovely overnight stay and everything you need is there. The house is beautiful and the interior is so cleverly done. Loved it! The communication between us and the lady who runs the lodge was excellent!

Accommodation very nicely and practically furnished. Had everything we needed. Walking distance from restaurant and planetarium. Really enjoyed it! Place to rest your soul. Take a warm jacket.
Little Artist Cottage had everything we needed. The cottage is quite cold due to the thick walls and minimum sunlight, but fortunately, they provided a heater, electric blankets, and an inside fireplace, which was lovely. Beds are comfortable. The outside fireplace was also nice and private. There is no TV or WiFi. Overall, we had a lovely weekend and will definitely choose Little Artist Cottage again if we visit Sutherland in the future.
We had a nice stay, and the coal stove helped a lot with the cold. The unit itself is very cold because it doesn't get any sun at all. Lanie was very helpful and helped us with our queries. The only downside was that we couldn't really sit outside, because every time we were outside people came asking for money etc.

Private enough that I could have my coffee outside early in the morning and yet across the road from a great place to eat. The place is clean, enough warm bedding is available, lovely farm shower. It was all perfect.

The stay was spoilt due to noisey Neighbour's. no fence around the property and a fragrant was sleeping in the grass close by.
The manager was helpful and friendly. Hot water on the cold evenings was a bonus.
This place is a security risk because there are skollies walking around and every time they will come knock on the door looking for food. It was not a secure parking for our car because there is no proper fence around the place, and there is no gate. We did not sleep properly over the weekend. The mattress of this place hurt my back because it is of poor quality. The skollies also harassed the neighbours for food.
There are many stars and real Karoo food here. You should also explore the area, it is a beautiful part of the Karoo.
I stayed in the small flat, but the bigger house is attached, but still separate.
We had problems with the car. Lanie was very nice and helped us a lot. Good service and definitely worth it.

Never been to Sutherland. Quiet, peaceful, small town. Went stargazing at Sterland on Saturday night. Very informative. Jani was very helpful from start to finish, also forwarding items that were left behind for us. Thank you Jani appreciate your care.
Although mobile phone signal is problematic, the check-in arrangements went smoothly. The unit is equipped to make everything very comfortable despite the loadshedding and the cold of course. A fireplace with wood, and an electric blanket made the stay pleasant.
Lanie goes the extra mile to make sure Little Artist feels like home away from home.
Little Artist is a nice home after a long journey We just missed the personal touch and had to receive and return the key under the doormat.
The cottage very cold. Only cement floors with 2 loose mats. The bathroom door is made of zinc. Looks much better in the photos than in reality. Exterior is beautiful and well maintained.
It is unacceptable to have a shower with walls of rusted corrugated iron without a door; an enamel sink that is "chipped"; lots of old copper pipes and taps; walls have probably never been painted; almost no work surface in kitchen; dining table barely big enough for one person; the "fireplace" - don't know how one can use it as heating? An old cement floor that makes the unit freezing cold. The one electric blanket did not work and had to be replaced; the other only partially warmed. The drying cloth was filthy dirty. Only photo of what the unit looks like from the outside, not from the inside.
We thoroughly enjoyed the night in Little Artist Cottage. The room is cozy, fully equipped with everything we needed and contributed to a unique Karoo experience. I would wholeheartedly recommend this cottage and would definitely visit again.
Good, neatly equipped unit. Near Boorgat Restaurant. In a peaceful environment. Close to everything. Friendly reception. Will use them again. Was well informed about water restrictions, was not a problem at all.
What a cute little place. Quiet, beautiful, neat, a nice place. Everything you need is provided in the place. Would recommend the place to anyone who just needs that "soul food" silence and just wants to enjoy the surroundings. Nice restaurant, Boorgat, just down the street where you can enjoy delicious peasant food. Stargazing is an experience. The place is close to everything. Will definitely see Little Artist Cottage again.

Sutherland has water restrictions at the moment, but we were well informed by the managers about the times when there would be water. So it didn't inconvenience our time there. Drinking water was also purchased for our use. I would perhaps suggest that the unit instead get 2 single beds that can be moved against each other and can serve as a king size bed for couples, and if it is not a couple, can be moved apart again. Having said that, the beds were really comfortable to sleep in and there was everything in the unit that we could need. Just a pity we missed the snow by a day. Since we were on level 4 of containment, the restaurants were only open for takeaway and only at certain times and even there the managers pointed out the eateries that served good meals. We look forward to staying there again.
Sutherland has water scarcity. Had to have water again at 5 o'clock in the morning. Only arrived at half past 9. This caused us to get away very late to our next destination. Contact person was not available for assistance. The one electric blanket did not work. Also very nicely equipped. Nice walk and visit at the Boorgat.
Lanie welcomed us and it was a side cottage with warm blankets in Sutherland it is a must! She was informative and we enjoyed the Planetarium show and Jurg tremendously. The Boorgat Restaurant & Bar is a must, good Karoo friendliness and very good food and a Karoo atmosphere that is unbelievable! Excellent experience.
The electric blankets and fireplace were a bonus. Definitely the best the town has to offer.
A delightful combination of authentic Karoo sandstone architecture with artistic-industrial touches. Very well equipped, quiet and with a gigantic starry sky above it!
As a stranger in town, I would have felt more comfortable if the place was fenced off. Security was a bit of a concern.
Characterful place, exactly like photos. Lovely linen. However, fireplace smoked inward which made the whole place smell like smoke. Opened the door which did help.
Excellent location near hotel and Louw brothers house cozy sitting/dining room with wood/fireplace. Lovely hot shower, walking distance to planetarium. Would recommend anytime.
Full and final payment were made 7 days prior to booking date - owner still requested payment conformation when we arrived - fire place was still filled with previous guest's fire ashes that enhanced a serious smoke odour – according to the owner this was due to a defective chimney. Shower is actually dangerous with the sharp edges on the corrugated iron that is fitted inside the shower.
