The guest house still evokes the images of days gone by of aristocracy and good living, an atmosphere of old leather, fine cognac and times when life seemed easier and less complicated.
Lord Fraser Guest House comprises 16 en-suite bedrooms carefully restored to its original style and tastefully decorated to create an authentic feeling.
With comfortable and homely surroundings, guests can enjoy a fully stocked bar, a hearty farm-style breakfast and a lovely dinner. More facilities like secure parking, conference facilities and laundry service is available.
The guest house is a pet friendly establishment.
We also do informal tours to Lesotho for our guests. Day tours up to four days tours within Lesotho can be arranged.

Gardens are beautiful. The bar and reception area was very busy with loud music and company, I didn't feel very at home. I found the reception staff in the bar, there was a load shedding/Eskom fault, and it was very dark inside in the afternoon. The food was nice.
There are candles in the room for use during load shedding.

In the neglected village of Wepener is this gem of a place. Colonial, old-fashioned luxury was totally unexpected. We were in the "Fraser" room: fireplace, antique wardrobes, four-poster bed, desk, plank floors and copper faucet bath, shower and sink. Ala Carte dinner was excellent. Put Wepener on your travel plans!
Wepener itself has nothing to offer a tourist, but the Lord Frazer guesthouse is a little hidden gem. Our stay was most pleasant. The receptioist was very friendly, and even went out of her way to take us on a tour of the guest house and tell us the history. We did not stay in the actual guest house but in the accommodation across the way, as we had made a last minute date change. The staff was friendly and the dinner we had was great. There was a braai thta night with a band, for the local population and it was lovely to meet one of the local farmers, and made to feel welcome.
Unfortunately, it's a shame to have to say that this guest house was the low point of our holiday. The decline of the town spills over into the guest house itself in some ways. Judging by the guest house's advertisements, it is a case of over promise and under delivered. Parts of the guest house are in a dilapidated condition, including broken windows and swimming pools that have been covered up or are full of garden waste. In unit 15 where we went, one of the chairs was broken, there were holes in the duvet of the double bed and there was practically no cutlery and crockery that enabled us to take care of ourselves there. The staff was also late with our dinner. After my complaint about it to the owner, who was not present when we arrived, a whole duvet was brought to us. The way the staff and guest house owner interacted with us was unprofessional in many respects. There was no information sheet in the room that answered some of the basic questions about the guest house. We had to guess where to book in and how the general arrangements work. At least the housing unit was otherwise tidy and the food and shower passable. However, our impression was one of neglect and not noticeably caring about customers. The unusually high rate we had to pay for one night is two to three times higher than other guesthouses of a similar or even lower standard. We admit that a small premium in the rate is justifiable because this is the only guest house in town, but otherwise it does not offer good value for money at all.
Incredible piece of history. The guest house, which is now paying the price of the Covid lockdown as well as the decline of the town, deserves more visitors. The old building with its garden, which is maintained with effort and expense, stands out in the area. I will definitely hang out there again.
Beautiful old house with original antique furniture. Fireplace in the giant room (no.5). Slipper bath and shower. Hot pub to visit. Gracious reception by the owners who told us a bit about the village's history.

Generally neat, but the floor under the bed hasn't been cleaned for a long time and also mice were seen in the room. Night guard unlocked the room door halfway through the morning due to a misunderstanding with the owner about which room to use. There should not be any other keys available for rooms in use. Friendly reception and people as well as delicious dinner and breakfast.
We had a lovely stay at Lord Fraser Guest House as a stopover to Queenstown. We highly recommend it as a place to stay.

Our arrival was peaceful with a Gin and Tonic in the bar with a bunch of locals. Boss was away, so shown room by his wife. Unfortunate power outage slightly delayed our dinner. Ate outside on porch with dogs.
No water in our room until following morning. Seriously. Should have been checked and fixed before we arrived!

The guest house is beautifully maintained and the room was spacious and tidy. We stayed here on our honeymoon 21 years ago and were pleasantly surprised at how nicely the place is still maintained in a town that is falling into disrepair. It was a very pleasant experience!

We tried to enter the town when a flood warning sign appeared in front of us. We tried to enter via a long alternate route through a suburb to find our destination. We had to clock in at the bar and I was a little reluctant about our choice. After meeting with the owner/son in the dark, we were shown to a dream room (Nr 5) and enjoyed delicious oxtail in the bar next to a blazing fire. We also met some of the local residents and what lovely people! After a wonderful night's rest, we enjoyed a hearty breakfast next to the hearth while enjoying an interesting conversation with Addie. What a unforgettable experience! We can definitely recommend them! Thank you very much!
Fireplace in the room was very nice on a cold evening. Owner was very helpful with car's dead battery.
Entrance to the guest house is right by a tavern. Extremely noisy and drunk people on your door step. Reception is in the bar - very unprofessional. Guest house also needs attention, especially outside. Pictures do not give true reflection.
Gavin R hits the nail on the head with his review. It is located next to a shebeen or bar so you hear the racket all night long. There was nobody to receive me and I had to pick the key up at the bar. Woke up the next morning to vomit lying in the corridors.
