67 guests' feedbackThe accommodation met all our requirements in a quiet and beautiful rural environment. The conversion of the silo was ingeniously done, and I will never again be able to drive past a silo without being reminded of Lupela. "Memories are made of this!".
Had a great stay. Erf not harnessed, so the puppies unfortunately had to stay on leashes. Nice walking paths and beautiful surroundings. Dirt road on the farm has challenges after it rained heavily.
Excellent stay. We really enjoyed it and will definitely visit the place again.
Great stay in an excellent location.
Perfect location to use as a base for SkyRun.
Very nice stay. Was a little further from the road than expected, but very nice.
A very pleasant stay in a quiet, secluded cottage on the banks of the Karingmelk river, perfect for our purposes. Very peaceful and good fishing.
Pragtige "bird" life. Mountains are soul cleansing.
Probably very nice but I did not have the pleasure of enjoying it. Way too far off the main road, on a poorly maintained road that will damage an SUV. More detail should have been provided before the time. Definitely not an overnight venue.
We loved the location of the cottage right on the river. The guys in our group caught the wild trout very easily. The host made us a delicious dinner, which we really enjoyed. Loved the peace and tranquility.
Beautiful place, nice clean house and very friendly and helpful people. We would recommend it to any family.
We stayed in The Look-out charlet a few meters from the babbling stream. You won't get better. Clean, comfortable and part of nature.
Feel like you've come home.
Place is quiet, no noise or mobile reception and also no internet. Most beautiful place ever.
They had no power for several days due to lightning and lots of rain. We didn't stay overnight because we felt unsafe.
A great first stop on our road trip. The room was comfortable, quiet, and well appointed. The lodge is situated in a beautiful valley, and the fishing was great.
Our hostess was well informed about attractions in the area. The lodge is an ideal place for a group of friends, as there are several places to hang out such as the stoep, living room and braai area.
Super comfortable stay, view of the river and lovely gurgling of the river audible in the house. It would be wonderful to stay longer, but even one night with a morning walk along the river recharged our batteries. It will be easier to access when the road works have been completed.
Hospitable and beautiful. Private and neat.
We enjoyed our stay at Lupela Lodge after finding the road off the tar main road to the lodge a little difficult mainly because of the amount of rain the area has experienced. The accommodation was comfortable with everything we need for our stay and very kind hosts. We enjoyed the quietness and stillness in the evening.
Beautiful setting. Lodge was spacious and very comfortable. Amazing views and the constant sound of the spruit was great. Amazing shower in the lodge. Definitely recommend this spot. I have already sent a report on the stay at Lupela lodge. Thank you. Will be back.
Lupela Lodge is a beautiful place that we would recommend to anyone if it wasn't for the poor communication by the owner/caretaker. Upon our arrival we encounter a gate (about 2km from the accommodation) which can only be opened by a code. At the gate is a notice indicating that the code was texted to us, but we did not receive any text (or whatsapp or email) with a code. There is no mobile reception at this gate to contact the owner. We were therefore forced to walk the rest of the way (there is a pedestrian barrier) and luckily caught the caretaker where he was fishing. The caretaker then gave the code for the gate, but did not offer to help, and we then had to walk the 2 km back to collect our vehicles. Finally arrived at the accommodation about 2 hours later and started unpacking, only to realize that not all the rooms we had booked were unlocked. There is no one (owner or caretaker) available to receive or help us. Still no mobile phone signal, but luckily got the WiFi password from the other guest and then called the owner. By this time it is already about 6 o'clock in the evening. Owner's side will try to get hold of the caretaker to come and help - without success. Owner later on the phone indicated to me where to go to find the keys myself for the locked room. So it took about 3 hours to get in. The room that was not unlocked had clearly not been cleaned. Owner's feedback regarding gate code not sending, also extremely disappointing. Before making reservation, we confirmed with owner that the road is passable for a sedan vehicle. However, this is by no means the case, and you definitely need a vehicle that is high above the ground to reach accommodation. It's a shame that we couldn't have enjoyed this fantastic place to stay and surroundings.
Denise and her husband were very helpful and it's the most beautiful place, we will definitely stay there again.
Wonderful environment to get quiet and enjoy nature.
Alf and Denise have already offered us a few days of "bliss" on their farm. It's our third time and we will be back again! The "wild trout" was a big challenge with the strong flowing river after the lovely thunderstorms in the southern Drakensberg. Lupela Lodge is the ideal house to visit as a family with all the necessary facilities.
Located in a deep valley by a river, it is possibly one of the most beautiful settings one could stay at.
The cottage looking down the river affords a beautiful view. We saw otters, buck and hare.
We ordered supper which was perfect for us. Thank you.
Thank you so much for an excellent break. Beautiful area!
This beautiful cottage right on a bubbling river was a perfect place to relax. I would have liked to stay for longer.
Very pretty. Very nice and quiet between the mountains.
We were a party of eight and all slept comfortably. The place is well equipped and the fireplace inside burned until late, after we braaied outside. Unfortunately we could only stay one night. I'm going back for a week.
The location, the silence, the natural beauty, the lack of technology make it super special. The stay, we were a group of 7 who stayed for four nights, in Lupela Cottage was fantastic. Very well equipped, fireplace, bar, kitchen. We made good use of the fire pit and fireplace even though the weather was nice and mild. The beds and bedding are top notch. And each room has its own bathroom. And I was able, with special courtesy of the hostess, Denise, to take two of my four-legged children with me.
Everything was neat and clean and the environment was beautiful. Would love to stay longer next time.
We spent a long weekend here. We will definitely return.
It is located in a beautiful environment. The access road is probably a bit awkward with a sedan car. The ride is part of the fun. Excellent stay.
We were 4 adults with 2 children aged 6 and 5 as well as 2 dogs staying in the Lupela Cottage and enjoyed the weekend. The owner, Denise, was very friendly and accommodating and the cottage was very well equipped with even coffee, tea and sugar and milk in the fridge. We climbed up the hill behind the house and then back through the dry stream, wonderful scenes, plants, stones, etc. and so right up our alley. Despite the drought, it is still very beautiful and the children and dogs could cool down in a pool of water. We can highly recommend Lupela Lodge and will definitely stay there again.
The Lookout Cottage is on the Karnmelkspruit and the view is breathtakingly beautiful, quiet and very private. It was too fantastic to stay here.
Cuddly, practical, lovely environment in terms of the drought. River swimming my highlight.
The house was wonderfully spacious, neat and well equipped. I just wanted better directions to the fly fishing areas. The river is also not easily accessible. We only caught one tiny trout. The river is very low so it may be the reason for the few fish. However, I would have preferred being informed beforehand that it is not worth trying to fish and not paying another rod fee.
The farm is beautiful and the accommodation is neat and clean with comfortable facilities. The surroundings are something to behold.
Lupele will see us again. It's a beautiful oasis in a very beautiful gorge next to the Karringmelk brook. It was the ideal overnight stop after a day's journey from the "Hole in the Wall" in the old "Transkei" and a beautiful tour via Pot River and Naude's Neck Pass. Would recommend Lupele anytime.
We were group of 9. Five adults and four children. We had a lovely peaceful night on the way to Lutsheni.
Lupela Lodge is for sure one of the most beautiful places in our country. Most beautiful scenery. We stayed in the Silo house. Was nice now. slept warm Silence between the mountains and the flowing river. Now I miss the place. Should have stayed longer. Thank you for the lovely overnight facilities. Ten out of ten.
Hospitable hosts in a beautiful location. Would definitely recommend!
Very neat and well-maintained "silo" accommodation in beautiful surroundings. Private, and safe for short photography excursions.
We had a lovely stay and appreciated the quiet and absolutely stunning scenery. This is an off the grid, soul-feeding type of place. A little piece of heaven!
A tranquil atmosphere and a fantastic place to stay while travelling.
Most beautiful environment with beautiful river, interesting rock and mountain formations and hundreds of things to do. No cell phone reception. Best ever!
Beautiful, neat place, clean and good location if you want to explore the mountain passes in the Eastern Cape.
We stayed in the little river house. It has a beautiful river view. Beautiful area and opportunity for long walks.
Comfortable accommodation. Nice place to walk and beautiful river.
We really enjoyed our stay at Lupela Lodge, beautifully clean and the surroundings are tranquil and peaceful. Beautiful walks.Thank you.
We really enjoyed! It is very beautiful there and the accommodation is well-equipped. I will definitely go there again if I'm in the area.
Unbelievably beautiful place next to the Karnmelk Spruit. The accommodation was everything we needed and we will definitely come back again.
Lovely accommodation in Silo. Lovely farm, mountainous, beautiful nature. Secluded in a stunning part of the country.
It's ideal for a weekend getaway, because it's only a three-hour drive from Bloemfontein. We were three older ladies with a small sedan car, who could still reach the lodge quite easily. We were kindly received by the hostess. The apartment was beautifully furnished and exceeded all our expectations. It was cleaned daily.
The walks and views are amazing. The silo is very well laid out with everything you need. The drive in is a little rough, (I have a low car) but it is so worth the trip, it's only a short 5 km dirt road. Accessibility to rivers is a bit lacking, perhaps some attention needs to be spent on that, if it is advertised as a fishing destination.
Lupela Lodge was great. Alf and Denise are wonderful. We will stay there again. Would highly recommend for bird watchers, nature lovers and eco-friendly travelers.
Good value for money and comfortable.
The cottage has a beautiful view and is well equipped. Reception friendly and helpful.
Well appointed house.
We slept very well. Interesting farm and very beautiful nature.
We prefer more privacy. The houses too close to each other. Beautiful place.
We want to come back again - really enjoyed our night here!
See the stars below.
Silo is a good experience to sleep in. Visitors should not travel through the Transkei.
