110 guests' feedbackThank you for a memorable stay there. From arrival till departure, the hosts were the best. Just the plain simple things that make this place very special. You have the bush and animals.
Very nice stay. Would love to plan weekend with family - rent big house.
Thank you. We enjoyed our stay. Regards.
Cozy place to hang out with enough space for everyone. Nice clean and tidy.
A forest camp very close to Pretoria that gives you the feeling that you are much further away in the forest.
The stay was peaceful and amazing. The hosts are friendly and amazing. I'd recommend it to my circle of friends.
Wonderful place close enough to home and far enough for your soul to rest.
We stayed on the same premises as another group. It wasn't very private. Was looking forward to the pool, but it's right outside the door of the other group of people. Unfortunately we didn't see much wildlife.
Stay was pleasant. There are not enough self-catering facilities. The communal kitchen is also not well equipped.
Everything was very nice. I would suggest that they just put fans in the rooms as well as fix the air conditioning in the master bedroom. It will cost one weekend's money to fix everything and make the stay much better. Carpets can also be washed or perhaps replaced instead. Other than that, everything was very nice.
We had a nice stay. The rooms are very nice and clean and the linen is beautiful. It was quite hot and the small roof fan is not efficient enough. The host and hostess were very friendly and helpful.
Very neat and comfortable. Do take your own coffee and toilet paper.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Cleanliness was neglected, bedsheets were clean, towels had brown stains. No cleaning services were available during the stay. Wash-up facilities were also not clean and not very practical to stay longer than one night. Nice braai facilities and walking routes to see the animals.
Good Morning. Lekker slaap was fantastic and quick but my stay at the reserve was nothing as expected. We made the most of it but the place seemed deserted, no other guests, no swimming pool, no game drive and definitely no wildlife, we saw Zebra, springboks and Wildebees only. No shop or restaurant on the property. It looked like they were on the verge of closing down. If I had to get married there, I would have been extremely upset. I do not think the Ma Tala Tala website is updated.
Unpleasant, the curtains had holes in them. The shower clogged up. The bath had weird stains all over it. The bedding was dirty. The second bedroom didn't even have a light.
It was disappointing: toilets leak, no toilet paper and the bathrooms were not clean. Although we were just staying overnight after a wedding, it was very difficult to see what was going on because there was no power. And the dirt road is not very nice for smaller vehicles.
Owners dress and shout at each other until late at night. I just packed up and drove at 2 in the morning.
Beautiful place. Very peaceful and wish I could stay longer.
Forest, nature silence and just nice conviviality. Very nice place we stayed in, everything we needed was there. We will definitely visit again.
Will definitely go back - was perfect.
Thank you very much! Friendly service, very well maintained.
It was a very nice, clean place to stay, perfect for a long weekend. Had a lovely walk around the premises with our dog. We felt very safe and peaceful.
I can start with "if you get tired of life in the city", words we like to sing when we have such a nice walk in nature. Our hosts, Marina and Anton, already made us feel at home by sending information even before we had finished packing at home. Beautiful, hospitable people. Well organized and informed. Conveniently close to Pretoria, but so nice in the bush. If you are looking for silence away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this is the place to be. Beautiful, rolling lawns surrounded by good fencing and lighting, with wildlife and nature just steps away. Night owls that together with the crickets complete a night song symphony of wild nature sounds. For sure also a lovely venue for a nice birthday party, reunion or wedding. Everything just conveniently grouped and affordable. We would love to go again and experience the forest camp or one of the family houses in the middle of the forest.
A nice break from the busy life. Nature is beautiful, swimming pool overlooks a wildlife feeding place.
Vehicles for game drive need to be fixed but we did enjoy.
Unhappy client, very disappointed.
The host was friendly and flexible with check-in and check-out times. We stayed 1 night in the unit upstairs with style stairs up. It was spacious and beds comfortable. However, the kitchen cupboards were almost empty. Although the hostess gave als for what I asked for, it was not very convenient in that respect. The braai area was nice, the chairs and tables by the pool just need cleaning. The game camp has a lot of animals and there is a good network of dirt roads (without thorns!) on which we could cycle as a family, and enjoy the woodland.
No info about exact facilities and what should be taken with you and what not. Also pleasant.
WiFi was not available, even though it was listed as available on the platform. No self-catering availability, can't make own meals except barbecue. Will suggest that meals are made available. It was a rainy weekend, the road very bad as it is dirt road, so no one recommended to go when it rains. There was a small fridge and microwave oven in the room, with cutlery.
I feel that if you are staying for the weekend you at least need a 2-plate stove, and a bigger fridge as the drive to shopping facilities is a fair way and a person does not want to go shopping every day due to fridge space. We enjoyed our stay but would not go again due to the non-servicing of rooms and all although it says self-catering those facilities were not up to scratch.
We had a wonderful stay at Ma Tala!
See stars.
Friendly. Very welcoming & helpful. Enjoyed my stay. Thank you Anton & Marina. Absolutely great host.
Very neat and clean with everything you need. The wildlife that came to drink water was an absolute bonus to view from the room's veranda.
Lovely quiet place to stay. Very peaceful and the host is always ready to assist. No TVs which was an extra to keep our minds on our daily routine.
We were actually looking for accommodation in Dinokeng to watch animals but saw many more animals at Ma Tala Tala. In addition, we were able to walk the entire game farm flat and view giraffes, zebras and goats from very close, undisturbed. The rooms' kitchen is very basic so dinner was a bit of a drive on a 4x4 dirt road but the breakfast they served was good value for money. The rooms overlook large open spaces with many trees and birds and the tranquility will stay with us for a long time.
See stars.
Was lovely and standard of accommodation more than expected.
It is a wedding venue, more than self catering. Worked for me, but may bother others.
Management and staff sweet and helpful. Our suite was "unfinished" - no TV, dark, incomplete kitchen facility, but nice and spacious which is what we wanted. The whole facility is clean and neat. Walks and game viewing limited but good. Breakfast not good value.
Rooms could do with a refurb, kettles aren't easy to fill, had to find a plug to plug in the kettle and no to Ricoffy.
The host and hostess are very pleasant. The cottage's crockery is absolutely substandard. There was no frying pan, no steak knives dish towels were dirty, no crockery matched, no wine glasses matched, the saucepans had no lids, the toilet leaked. The game paths in the farm definitely need attention.
On our own in tent with campfire. We swam while observing animals. Friendliest staff and reception. Helpful.
We are not the type of people to complain about everything, but are nevertheless unhappy about our experience at MTT. We could not rave about the management and facility's cleanliness etc. don't complain We have clearly requested, in writing, that the accommodation must be within Dinokeng and that it must be self-catering. The nearest entrance in Dinokeng is, we understand from MaTalaTale's staff, about 30 km from the latter and the entrance fee is quite high so that we would have to pay this fee every day we would visit Dinokeng. MTTA does not have adequate equipment to prepare meals. There was only a facility to make coffee or tea. Crockery was 2 coffee mugs, 2 plates, 2 porridge/dessert bowls, 2 knives/forks/forks i.e. none of the necessities to prepare meals. There was a braai but no trays to handle braai items. No braai fork either. Also, there was no worksheet to prepare food on. Furthermore, there was no possibility to drive and view wildlife or walk by yourself. The residential area is cordoned off and visitors are required to stay inside the camp (the reason we left early as mentioned above). No meals apart from breakfast are served so guests have to take care of meals themselves and without the necessary equipment. Once again the staff at Ma TalaTala are exceptionally helpful and friendly. The problem was undoubtedly that the website did not pre-set the information.
If we washed dishes, it happened in the bathroom sink due to lack of facilities. What more does a man need to say.
Units are not suitable for self-catering, and the roads are bad if you don't have a vehicle that can drive dirt roads. Accommodation strictly recommended for wedding guests only. No self catering.
Very happy. Had a great stay and felt very welcome.
Very cool place and nice view.
Nice place where you can just relax.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would recommend to any person. Good opportunities to take beautiful photos of nature and wildlife, as well as many birds.
Excellent destination to recharge your batteries.
Enjoyed a lot. Restful.
The challenge is that there is no network, you become out of reach for a long time.
There are dishes in the room, but no sink or anything to wash and dry them with. Overall nice, but air cooling in the room would be a plus.
Well furnished and tidy rooms room. Wonderful experience with wildlife grazing on the front porch.
It is a wonderful place and the staff were very hospitable, there is even wildlife in the background while you sit quietly and barbecue. I would definitely recommend them for a wedding or just a nice weekend away.
Very nice rest, aunt Yvonne was very hospitable and went out of her way to make it pleasant for us! We are definitely going again and this time we are taking the whole family!
Wonderful place suitable for the entire family! Very friendly staff. We will definitely go there again!
Affordable and peaceful holiday.
Nothing to add - it's peaceful.
Our host, Abri, was on hand for anything we needed and our little house was great, nice and clean with everything we needed in the forest. a light at the braai would be even greater. There is plenty of wildlife to see and with all the nice rain the forest is really beautiful. Just a bit of information - cell phone signal is bad up there on the mountain, but it was fantastic because no one was obsessed with their phones and we could thoroughly enjoy the forest.
So between the walks in the beautiful reserve, at least we also got time to relax and rest. Conveniently close to Pretoria if you feel you need a break to rest your soul.
We enjoyed our weekend - met great people and had a very relaxing time. The semi-catering facilities need to be more clear as we didn't realise we would need to bring braai tongs and possibly a skottel and a few other items to make things easier - the general kitchen facilities could do with an upgrade, very low sink, not much hot water and plates and utensils in each unit could be more. Great having access to ice machine and glasses etc from the hall. On the whole though an enjoyable stay and would recommend it for a big group of friends looking for a weekend getaway.
The accommodation was neat, clean and complete. The staff were friendly and eager to help. I get the feeling that Ma Tala Tala is going to become a favorite getaway spot for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We went specifically to refresh our souls in nature and were not disappointed. With zebras, giraffes, impalas, waterbucks and more walking just outside the camp it was exactly what we expected.
We had a great time and the hostess helped a lot with a light, pan and tongs for the barbecue. The sleeping units are not exactly set up for self-catering and so we have to borrow some of the things from the hostess. Unfortunately due to Covid we could not get meals and the bar is not open either.
Great quick getaway to a forest camp to visit with good friends.
We stayed in the suite which was spacious but lacked a few things such as a toaster ,tea towels, etc. The steep steps up to the suite could be dangerous . The Bar is not really a bar as it is not open after 5pm. Tranquil surroundings with nice walks although not overstocked with game.
Would just like to see a dining area inside the cottage, otherwise 100%.
Very nice and peaceful, had a great swim and saw giraffes. Would only suggest that a broom be made available in each unit, as well as a small table in the bathroom. And if there is only e.g. two units are booked, book them far apart and not next to each other for more privacy.
Too far from other facilities. Roads difficult and very few signs with names along the road.
Very clean rooms that are well maintained. Cooking area around the boma may need some attention, maybe more gas stoves needed.
Problem areas with management discussed and highlighted. Signs of neglect in need of upgrading.
As an instant hotel we expected comfort and leisure. Someones home offered for rent is what this is, someone lived here before and is now renting it as holiday home and we rated it poorly. This is the very first time I have left a review after any stay at a place and we have been all over. Being a middle class household we don't travel expensive at all so we are not posh and fancy people be any means. We booked at Ma Tala Tala because we love the bush and the old farm house vibe was appealing to us. On arrival we opened the door with the very unorganised set of keys none clearly marked. We were hit with a very horrible musty smell like the old smell and a house that had been left closed for years. The bread board was so worn and disgusting. None of the cutlery and dishes matched and some where bent and damaged. The beds were absolutely unacceptable. Our main room bed frame was so bad it was broken and you could see it on the floor under the bed. the furniture was so outdated its depressing. The main room door can't open because there is no key and it was chained closed with such a thick chain which is very worrying to guests. The 3rd room, otherwise labelled by our family as a dorm room or hospital room, the frame from the window was totally out of the window so it could just be pushed out. The curtains were all off their hooks in that room. We were very shocked to hear that the game drive costs R250 per person and all there is no game on the farm only thing we saw was 4 giraffe buck here and there and zebra or two, which was the highlight sadly and I love giraffes. We stayed 2 nights and after an absolutely horrible sleep in main room we moved to the 3rd room with our 2 kids to sleep on the spare beds hoping for a better night but the beds over all in the house are just horrible. The lounge couches have slashes on the arms. I found a old empty box of cigarettes under the main bed as it wasn't cleaned properly. These bedrooms are in desperate need of a make over and there are no head boards. The management when we arrived were very friendly and on departing at 09:35 to drop off the helper for cleaning the gentlemen was also very friendly. I find carpets in place for holiday inappropriate as we don't know the hygiene levels of them so that was horrible. Garden within the house was terrible red sand no effort has gone into trying to maintain it around the house area. The furniture around the house is very mismatched old damaged and just put there for space closure. Nothing is functional or working. The desk in the main rooms drawers are broken with no chair so what is the point. Room 3 had 4 peaces of different and old wood furniture that is terrible quality and some doors all broken or not functional. Please advise the owners they are not able to charge the amount they are charging if your stay isn't at a certain standard. We didn't feel safe at all in the home while there so we all had basically no sleep.
The bush camp is very privately located, away from the main lodge. Lovely outdoor shower. We really enjoyed the silence.
Ria received us very warmly. She did not only tell us where to find places, but practically went with us to show where the swimming pool, braai areas etc. are. I loved the gas braaier. We enjoyed viewing animals. The rooms are neat and beautiful. We were not even hurried up to book out. I will definitely visit Ma Tala Tala.
Ma Tala Tala was a great stay for our family. There is no TV, no busy life, just pure relaxation. We absolutely loved our stay at Ma Tala Tala. Ria was so sweet and accommodating. My 5 year old son did not want to leave. Our morning walks seeing wild life will be a holiday I will cherish forever. Thank you Ma Tala Tala. We will be back.
Would go there again anytime and would recommend to anyone from couples to families. Nice peaceful environment and I really enjoyed the walk.
Taking my family to see how fun it is.
Felt very much at home from arrival to departure. Enough game seen and good fried. Watched rugby with Eddy (host). Too bad his Blue Bulls lost. Ground road was quite a challenge. Looking forward to my next visit to Ma Tala Tala.
Good choice for a getaway with friends or a family. The self-catering units could only be better equipped with wine glasses, cutlery etc. Barbecues are a bit far from the units and a bin at each would be good. Boma is very good! Friendly service!
Your care and concern for my parents, during our visit to Ma Tala Tala, was a belt under my heart. They were very impressed with the variety of wildlife and the beautiful trees.
We had a wonderful stay at Ma Tala Tala. The 6 sleeper is a proper two bedroom, two bathroom house in the bushland which is fenced with an electric fence. There is a nice stoep with a built-in braai.
We had a great time and enjoyed the break. It is very peaceful there but enjoyed watching the wildlife. The hospitality of the driver was amazing and added to a wonderful experience. Thank you.
A wonderful and peaceful break away from the maddening city.
We had a great stay, rooms are neat and clean. Scenery is a plus.
We were moved to 2 rooms as my parents (85, 80 years old) were there with us. The fact that it was rooms, I understand that only certain things are needed in the 1-room chalet. However, since we were there the whole weekend and had to cook ourselves, there were certain things that I missed, such as e.g. sharp knives, bowls, etc. The managers helped her out of the house as much as she could, but it still bothered her. As explained, what is there does meet the requirements given that it is only an overnight facility.
We felt very at home and really enjoyed it. It's just not very well appointed for self-catering and far from the shops.
Unless you book one of two houses available the remainder of the accommodation is like glamping but sleeping in a room with a shower. The facilities are not good or adequate for the glamping accommodation. The price for the glamping accommodation will allow one to book and stay at much nicer places.
See stars.
I would definitely recommend it to family and friends.
We had a great time as a family and really enjoyed the scenery and wildlife.
Would recommend Ma Tala Tala anytime nice and quiet and not that far from Boksburg. Enjoyed it a lot. Thanks to everyone who made this possible and the website for the recommendation' Will use you again.
We received a friendly reception. The room is neat and spacious. We felt that a two plate stove could have been handy. To make some pap with the braai meat, or for breakfast. There is no restaurant on the premises, the closest shops is quite a drive away and it is quite limited with only a microwave. Thank you for the Weber that could be dragged closer to our room to braai. Our time was too limited to walk through the whole park, but the little distance we did walk we saw quite a few animals. It was nice to enjoy a bushveld-getaway out of the city.
For people that stay in Gauteng, Ma Tala Tala offers a great getaway close to home.
This place is suitable for groups. Convenient and neat.
Aircon not working, too few wine glasses, TV missing, curtains not maintained, electric fence not working, camera wires are cut.
Many thanks to Danie and his companion for the wonderful time there, it was really very nice and the service was great.
Two bedroom 6 sleep accommodation as if you are at your own home in the bush. Accommodation is isolated up in the mountain with lovely view. No microwave, no electric kettle (water to be boiled on stove with kettle) and no fans in house (might be needed for the hot SA summers). Accommodation is fenced and there was no need to take special care of our 3 year old grandchild.
We were subjected to a wedding that carried on the whole night, the staff were very unfriendly and unhelpful, the room was full of dust that affected my wife's sinus so badly we nearly left at 1 am. Never again.
Martin and his staff ensured us a wonderful visit. The service and accommodation was off the books. We will definitely go back. Big thanks and compliments!
Friendly welcome.
Spent a fabulous weekend break. Karl was very hospitable. The house was specious and clean. The walks around the reserve was magical, seeing the giraffe, kudu, zebra and wildebeest at close quarters. Martin took us for a sunset/moonlight drive and I was very impressed that he knew exactly what we drank and who we were, without meeting us before. Well done Karl for briefing him. Nothing was too much trouble and we had a wonderful time, getting away from the rat race. So happy there was no television in the house, definitely not needed.
It needs a swimming pool at the big house. There is a koi pond there, which is of no use. Rather converting it into a small pool will also satisfy the visitors.
Nice with good service. We had a nice time.
Rooms and bedrooms very neat, linen pure white and of the best quality. Lovely to go for a walk up the hill and wildlife very quietly so they can be viewed, field in good condition. Security very good, game fences and fence around the accommodation part. Peaceful and quiet and close enough to travel to attractions on Cullinan.
Ma Tala Tala is very conveniently close for a weekend getaway. The house we stayed in was neat and clean and the accommodation was quite comfortable.
I took my work team to MaTalaTala for a year-end function. We were warmly welcomed. The staff were friendly and helpful with anything we needed. The game drive was a hit with lots of game to see. The atmosphere was very peaceful and my team really enjoyed the trip.
