118 guests' feedbackYes, the place was clean. Only the sink's pipe does not work well. It is loose and was difficult to wash the dishes.
The location is incredibly beautiful, the place was very tidy and the tranquility was very nice after a busy week. Would definitely recommend and would definitely go again.
We had such a great rest and it was worth every penny. We will definitely go again.
It was difficult to enjoy all the advertised amenities without extensive travel throughout the resort. Additionally, the site maps provided on request were not very helpful.
I hope the owner and all animals are OK there.
It was amazing, the area is refreshing.
Room was clean and tidy, braai place too far from accommodation.
The porch, chairs and table have not been cleaned for a long time. There are no rags or anything to clean it with. The outside broom box is full of wasps and the light by the braai area is full of water. The braai area is also far from the unit.
Food bits left in kitchen and bedside table, no hot water (no trip on DV board ). Fridge smelly like fish& drying cloth was stained&soaking wet on arrival. Linen / towels could be upgraded , some stains and holes :(. Cleaner seemed to return spare keys to verandas key box day before we left which was concerning as it seems they would then be able to access unit at times requested or not?
Unit we booked was already full with other people. Unit was very neglected and was very dirty. DStv didn't work at all. The key's lock on the front door was broken. Cutlery and glasses were dirty. Shower was very dirty. Refrigerator's freezer section was broken. Boma did not come to clean the next day. Sink faucet is loose. Outside patio table and chairs were very dirty. Bedding had blood marks on it. Units really need urgent attention.
Beautiful place where you can truly relax!
The only problem is that the cleaning lady helped herself to some of our drinks. I wouldn't recommend the service when she comes around.
My two children stayed here. They were only there in the evenings. We had another unit. The power was out Friday night. On Saturday, only the kitchen's power worked. Aircon's batteries and remote fell apart. TV didn't work. Couldn't use aircon. Refrigerator did not work. No wifi reception. Couldn't recharge their phones. Mabalingwe is a fantastic resort and Elephant Camp's location is perfect. Lots to do for the kids. Was just disappointed with the unit and the kids were inconvenient.
We had a lovely large king-size bed, but the bed linen was a bit tight. There was a double bed 'duvet inner' in a king-size duvet cover. The rest was very pleasant.
Mabalingwe is a nice place, with beautiful and peaceful scenery. However the unit needs to be revamped, the couch is very uncomfortable, and the kitchen cupboards there is a molding smell. The toilet paper provided was of bad quality and the DStv - don't know what was wrong but it was on and off to an extent that we kept it off. You should also consider providing Wi-Fi because not all networks will function well considering their coverage, but because you are managing there it will be easy for you to get a network that has coverage so that as your clients we can also benefit.
Best weekend! Swimming pool, squash, tennis and pit-pit were nice and close, walking distance, and it's free too! The most beautiful wildlife seen and delicious food at the restaurants. Definitely a nice getaway. Thank you Mabalingwe Elephant Lodge, we will definitely see you again soon.
There are plenty of activities for both adults and children. The location is not too far from our house. Prices are fair and affordable.
Staff are very friendly and helpful. Mabalingwe is well prepared for guests in all aspects. Units are clean and very comfortable. What a wonderful place.
I think maybe you could invest in generators for the price you pay, and even make a plan with WiFi. One comes to rest, but has no communication if something happens.
What an experience that the elephants came to visit us at our unit!
It was a privilege to see so much domesticated wildlife roaming around us. We were only there for two nights but it felt like a week.
It is value for money and you can become one with nature again.
Wonderful place to stay. Very beautiful area. Want to come stay again.
Units are beautifully situated in the forest and rich in wildlife. Some of the units are very well equipped and beautifully laid out but dirty! Some of the units have no braai or the braai area which is the boma is dilapidated.
Relaxed environment, clean and in nature.
We had a visitor who wanted to wash the car. Is this the norm?
Arrival. Unit could have been cleaner and neater. Weber grill was in pieces and unusable. Shower and kitchen sink outlet were clogged and were only repaired the day after. Specific unit needs attention and renovation. Many of the fixtures are already worn out and need to be replaced.
Very nice and clean and nice place.
Everything was very neat and comfortable. The only thing I can mention is that a table or table in the braai area would be very convenient. We had an amazing visit from elephants on Saturday night.
Very nice playground for children. This is a great house with lots to do for children nearby. Nice wildlife viewing opportunities.
The location, cleanliness and tranquility were breathtaking. Every morning while we were having breakfast the warthogs came to say hello.
Mabalingwe staff could have been more forthcoming with information. As first time visitors, we struggled to find our way around and the map wasn't accurate.
We saw a lot of game and monkeys and warthogs and wild boars, they came to greet us early on, all we didn't see were elephants.
Elephant Lodge is centrally located and our unit was very suitable for two people.
Lovely weekend away from home.
Can recommend it to everyone.
The roads are quite confusing, unfortunately the plastic bags and papers blow into the field near staff dwellings, we saw very little wildlife. The ponds are beautiful though.
Really a place where we could rest, watch rugby and relax. Restaurants good, good, friendly service and waiters. All that is negative that I must mention is that the unit in which we stayed needs a re-do of the sewerage ─ there is a terrible stench in the bathroom, it wakes you at night, not pleasant at all.
There was a blocked shower which took 4 hours to fix and as a result our privacy was invaded. We were offered another room but the water was cold. Nothing was done to compensate us.
Good location, walking distance from the main amenities but still in nature. Although equipped with the basics we lacked nothing, the place was clean and everything worked well, also equipped with a good bed. The interaction with the domesticated animals that move between the chalets is really special, some of them may pose a risk to people who do not maintain safe boundaries. The monkeys are, as is the case in any nature park, a problem, eating on the stoep and in the Lapa braai is a bit of a challenge. A recommendation would be to be able to separate the porch in some way without spoiling the view. I will definitely use them again.
The Lodge: The elephants that move through the lodge cause a lot of damage to the property as well as your vehicle. Fortunately in my case I did not experience any damage but there was a case where a person's vehicle was badly damaged by the elephants. The Accommodation: The bed linen had not been changed upon our arrival and we had to request the service staff to change the linen and clean the place, we only checked in after 3. The pillows can be washed/replaced because they smell unpleasant. The boma needs to be upgraded so that one can sit on a level surface when barbecuing. It is very uncomfortable to sit with a chair at an incline of 30 degrees and not grill. There are many of the other units in the same price class with better braai facilities.
Minimal renovation can make the unit beautiful. We drove to Bela-Bela and bought 4 new coffee cups which we left there. The old ones were cracked, chipped and decrepit. The toaster is broken and according to the. cleaner she already reported it with a photo. It's unsafe. The braai in the boma no longer has a floor and only needs 1 wheelbarrow full of concrete to restore it 100%.
We had a great stay and enjoyed our time at Elephant Lodge. The place could be even better with a little maintenance and a little bit more attention to the small things in their service like providing guests with clean towels when cleaning the units and providing enough toilet paper. Other then that a good experience being in amongst nature. We saw more wildlife sitting at our chalet than on our self-drive game drive.
Greatly relaxed and slept. Value for money. Will definitely recommend.
The place was dirty and had to ask for other bedding because it was not clean. The toaster falls apart and the pan. Won't even feed my dog food from the pan. Very disappointed with the stay. Otherwise the animals are awesome had a nice massage and Mani and Pedi. Swimming pool is nice. And nicely fried. It doesn't matter what you pay for accommodation, if you rent out a place you as the owner ensure that the accommodation is clean and up to date.
Elephant Lodge is very nice but not unit 257A. No lapa/boma and cleaning services as advertised. Other units very nice bomas. Sorry that it is advertised as such but is not. Other units beautiful.
The weekend was incredibly fun with a lot to do. Our accommodation was fantastic and very tidy.
Die rustigheid in die natuur was lekker. Die diere wat kom kuier was ook 'n groot belewenis. Sal bitter graag so gou as moontlik wil terug gaan.
Elephant lodge is great value for money. Clean and tidy. I would highly recommend it.
The Elephant Lodge's layout is very cute. It's spacious and has everything you need. We couldn't believe the amount of animals that walked past in front of our porch. Nyala, shallow pigs, buffalo visited us throughout the day and evening. The stoep and own boma are a great treat. The Elephant Lodge is walking distance from the platform where the game drives depart, as well as the swimming pool and shop, which makes it very convenient. The units have privacy and are built with comfort in mind. For us it was good value for money. Mabalingwe is very well maintained and we really enjoyed it.
Nice private & beautiful
Game drives were rewarded by elephant, zebra, buffalo and reebuck sightings. Had tasty lunch in the restaurant. Overall a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
We thoroughly enjoyed the animals that run between the houses and are very tame.
Great place, really enjoyed our stay and our host was very flexible and understanding. We had some great visitors on a daily basis including warthogs, nyala, klipspringers and a herd of elephants. Great stay.
I would just prefer that we were told that there would be loadshedding and that there was construction right next door. We were woken up early on the Saturday morning due to the building going on.
Very nice neat place. Will definitely book here again for a peaceful getaway in the bush.
Recommendation: Handrail at stairs inside the specific chalet where we were at home. Husband had a stroke and found it difficult to go up and down the stairs.
The unit was not thoroughly cleaned and the bathroom roof dirty and full of marks. At R1450 per night, one does not expect plates that are full of splinters, linen that is old and full of stains, the only pot in the unit that is rusty. Loud music from other units spoils the silence of nature. Disappointed in unit 268A and would not recommend paying R1450 per night for the unit.
Sonya accommodated us by not charging us any extra for our little toddler who shared the bed with us. The house was beautifully tidy when we arrived and perfect for what we needed. Just a few things to note, as many guests apparently feed the warthogs they are a pest and so my little boy couldn't play outside on the porch. We also did not receive a code beforehand for the lockbox in which the key was placed so it was a struggle to get into the cottage. There was not enough cleaning services, only one day a cleaner came in and she only washed the dishes, did not give new clean towels or toilet paper etc.
Big and clean. Unfortunately the bed was very hard. The bush was dry and we didn't see a lot of animals. The monkeys were always there looking for food. We couldn't leave anything alone. They even stole our braai lighters. The Mbali spa was fabulous.
The lodge itself very nice but our unit's TV and air conditioner did not work. The bath towels were old with marks on them. The next day our used towels were not changed. We had to share a boma with the room next to us.
The inventory was not all there, notified the owner but nothing was done about it. Had to find someone to clean out the braai after not being cleaned 2 days later. Nice location, lots of animals walking past near the stream. The nearby shop and coffee shop, not really worth visiting. Rather ensure you take all your own food and drinks.
Inner sheet dirty and aircon not working. My Boma light not working had to use mu cellphone as torch. Thanks to my neighbour at 157B fir assisting with torch when pigs came by the boma.
Upon arrival, security at the entrance was very helpful. On arrival at 168b everything was nicely clean. Cleaners were very friendly. Went to a restaurant where food was very tasty and staff very friendly again. All the passing staff greeted at all times. I will introduce Mabalingwe to all my friends and have already planned our next stay.
My wife and I had a great experience at Elephant Lodge ever since we booked, till after our stay. The rooms are very neat and has a warm atmosphere when you arrive. The private boma was the cherry on top. The biggest part of the camp spoke Afrikaans and that made us feel right at home. Our experience in terms of game in the reserve was great as well. The elephants were a highlight. I would recommend it to anyone. We'll definitely be back.
The experience was very pleasant and I would book it again for a weekend away. The only thing is that the website says that the boma is 10 m from the cottage, when in reality it is about 30 m away, with no alternative braai facilities closer to the cottage and excavations between the cottage and the boma, it was not the most comfortable barbecue. I can't really criticize anything about the interior of the house.
My fiance and I really enjoyed it. Was peaceful and who wouldn't want to spend time in nature.
Nice and close to Pretoria to visit on a Friday after work. Compact unit with comfortable bed. Unfortunately there were other visitors who made a lot of noise and noise and music from the pool as well as from cars was disturbing at times. If this noise can be controlled, it will be an ideal destination to fully enjoy the Bosveld.
Friendly and helpful staff. Good facilities.
See stars.
Apartment had everything we needed, and was very comfortable, but kitchen cabinets not very clean, and the whole apartment was covered in cobwebs - windows, curtains, etc. The front door also came half loose, my husband had to fix the fitting temporarily. On the first day there had been a horrible black discharge in the shower water while we were still showering. As a result, the entire shower, washcloths and towels were pitch black when we finished - not a nice experience at all.
Very nice stay. Will go again.
Very neat, beautiful and well-equipped unit. You can sit outside on the patio almost all day and watch the animals (such as kudu, impala, nyala and warthogs) passing by or listening to the wide variety of birds in the trees. Other facilities at Mabalingwe are also good. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, good food and a beautiful view.
We will definitely visit again, we really enjoyed it!
Our stay was very nice but the following bothered me: The unit is dark and gloomy inside, luckily we were mostly outside. We fell over the steps a few times and would not recommend it for older guests. The cleaners were noisy. The floor area to the kitchen has a small step and because the teal color doesn't change on the step, we fell over it a few times. The sink faucet in the kitchen is broken/loose. We were under the impression that it was a detached unit, but we had to share a braai with our neighbours. The bomas are dilapidated and lack maintenance. The maps of the roads in the area are not up to date and not to scale. We liked the following: Great shower. You can drive around and view wildlife on your own. Tame wildlife that walks past the unit. Roads are in good condition despite the recent rain. Everything you need in the chalet, except an oven.
Mabalingwe Elephant Lodge is nice to stay at as it is close to all amenities. The Unit (168A) we stayed in just needs a lot of work. There is a list of items that should be in the unit, but many of them are not there. In total, 16 items. I passed it on to Sonja (the owner) and Christa (housekeeping). Sonja's attitude was that she would sort it out tomorrow. The unit was not prepared for new visitors at all. The safe was locked and we could not lock up our valuables. The DStv's remote control didn't work at all and I even had to put in new batteries. There was no bathroom mat in the bathroom and according to the list there should be one. We just had to slip-slide across a tile floor. There were no wine glasses, but according to the list there had to be 4 wine glasses. Only got 2 wine glasses a day later. There was no bottle opener and it was replaced with a can opener. On our second last day, the cleaner only cleaned the place at 12:30 because she was unsure whether it was our last day or not. At least I would expect that, after reporting all the stuff, at least Christa or Sonja would find out if everything was okay, but it didn't happen.
The morning of our arrival I received an email saying we were checked into another room due to repairs. Upon arrival, other people were in the unit and we were then back to the original unit. Shower head broken and spraying whole world. Generally short spot repairs.
The stay at Mabalingwe Elephant Lodge was neat and clean. The boma barbecue next to the water stream is a plus. However, the following detracted from an otherwise enjoyable weekend: 1. The remote control (remote) of the DStv did not work. This was brought to Sonja's attention via SMS, to which she replied that I had to buy batteries from the shop on site, which they did not have in stock. 2. The bathroom door could not close. 3. Water leaked into the kitchen when it rained on Sunday. 4. Chairs at braai boma were dirty.
We booked three units: 167A & B, as well as 168A and had to pay the full amount as early as April 2018, which was unusual. All the units were not in an acceptable condition and did not meet the expectation as we know Mabalingwe. Since we had no other option, we just stayed there. Although unit 168A has been upgraded, derelict work was clearly visible (the two-plate stove is clearly the one previously in use). Every time it rained (which was almost daily) the kitchen overflowed, as well as roof leaks all over the bed and the bed was mostly wet, although we tried to stop with containers. Unit 167A had water leaks in the toilet and bathroom, so the towels were constantly being used to catch the water. The toilet seat needs to be replaced and so are several other faults. Unit 167B also has water leaks in bathroom and toilet - same situation with towels that had to be used to stop/catch water, this toilet had no mechanism in the toilet. The front door lock of 167B was faulty. Both of these units' kitchen cupboard doors were broken off and 167A had almost no TV reception. So there were also several other errors and there was also no inventory that we could go through. Overall it was not acceptable and therefore not a pleasant stay and feel that we should be compensated for all the inconvenience. It definitely did NOT live up to the quality and standard of Mabalingwe that we have become accustomed to over several years.
It was very neat and everyone is so friendly there, really value for money.
We had a wonderful stay. The animals wandered right up to room. We saw a lot of bird life, heard a hippo at night. Absolutely will be back.
Absolutely wonderful weekend. The drives through the park were good and saw quite a bit of wildlife. The unit was clean and tidy with everything you need. The service from start to finish was professional and my booking was done promptly. Definitely a place that gets 5 star recommendation!
Will go there again sometime, it was very nice and very nice stay, the place was very helpful at all times.
Their service is great! We have our binoculars etc. forgot there The same day I got an email from Sonja to tell me that Nick had it and would keep it for us. Thank you so much for your honesty and wonderful service. The accommodation is ideal for 2 people and beautifully clean and lovely in nature.
Nice places to eat with friendly staff and real Bushveld with fresh air, lots of wildlife and very conveniently close to everything as well as nice swimming pools. This place will always remain tops. Many thanks to everyone.
Little gem in beautiful Mabalingwe. Perfect for a getaway.
We had such a good time there. Very nice and clean.
Had a wonderful weekend break, the place is beautiful and peaceful. We enjoyed it very much.
See rating.
Can't beat the feeling of being greeted close-up by Guinea Fowl, Warthog and Squirrels early morning while sipping on a hot cuppa. Awesome breakaway from the city mayhem, just a quick drive from Jozi. Will definitely be planning another visit in the near future. The only negative comment (hence 4/5 value for money rating) is due to brown water through the bathroom (sink and bath) and kitchen taps.
Fantastic service and facilities. Especially the restaurant and game drive.
We were at a wedding at Elements, it would be nice if you could open the other gate so that we didn't have to drive that dirt road for so long, otherwise it was great. Saw many goats at 1 o'clock in the morning so it was nice, the bed was very big and the air-con very cold so it was also great.
The staff at Mabalingwe are very friendly. We'll definitely be back soon!
Very beautiful, peaceful and exceptional bushveld experience! Animals come right up to your porch and there are many beautiful views and a variety of animals to see. Definitely an experience that will be remembered.
Room number 21 (Peace) was clean and tidy. Just a few things that I think could be addressed: The Boma's light didn't work and as a result we couldn't barbecue there in the evenings. There is only one pot and pan, I would suggest putting another pot/pan there as well and maybe 2 more plates so that you don't have to wash the dishes every time before you want to eat something else. Attention can be given to the kitchen. In front of the unit it is not so tidy, there are bushes that have been cut down and bits of paper etc. here and there.
Very neat with the most beautiful nature.
Our unit was very clean except for the odd cobwebs in the roof and bathroom frame. Kettle also needs some descaling. Bed slept very comfortable and Sonja was a great help with all our enquiries. Safe in the room without code - explanation was received but I recommend then the rather remove the safe if it cannot be opened and used. All together we had a really great stay. Will definitely come back again.
We had a great stay! The pipe under the kitchen cupboard is leaking and there is a problem with the door lock. The pot that is there is rusted. Also only 1 large plate.
Loved the off-roading, the animals roaming freely, this place is a place to be for nature and animal and adventure getaways. Accommodation and pools and other fun things for children and adult entertainment.
The place is very nice but there were no glasses in the chalet and some plugs were not working.
Thank you for a lovely stay. Our room was clean and comfortable with everything we needed. The only thing that could be improved upon is the neatness outside the unit - some building rubble was still heaped outside the front and the braai area at the back hadn't been cleaned. There was also quite a bit of litter around the grounds.
As cleaning service was included - we noted the bath was not attended to or clean - still dirty marks from bubblebath foam. When we separated the beds we noted that paper, deodorant can, etc, were on the floor.
The place is very clean. Can make a plan and close-off the kitchen section (rain). The lights outside don't work and the braai area can be improved.
Small units, with only the basic things. For us it wasn't a problem as we just needed a place to sleep and we only stayed 2 nights. If one wants to stay longer, then you might feel claustrophobic. We found everything clean and in working order. We had a view over the trees and bushes. It was quiet and serene to sit outside and watch guinea fowls, squirrels and monkeys playing. Even a few rooibok (impalas) passed by.
Cute little and intimate place. Ideal for newlyweds. Would not recommend for families with small children (0-2yrs), for longer than 1 night, but was perfect for the purpose we went with (wedding). Neat and clean.
There are no lights to the braai area. No lights in the braai area. No lights at the outside dining table. Not enough cutlery. Noisy neighbours that curse and swear.
Perfect location and it's very nice with all the animals that come around to the unit, even a herd of buffalo they came to make their home on our front porch one night. Mabilingwe in itself is a very nice lodge with plenty to do, good facilities, restaurants and game drives. Unfortunately, our stay at Elephant Lodge was disappointing. The toilet leaks and there's an unpleasant smell all the time. The bath/shower was leaking on the floor and was soaking wet as well as the shower head was spilled and just lying to one side. The front door and back door locks do not work well. We only had 2 plastic chairs that were so dirty that I had to wash them myself first with no table that you can use if you sit outside and barbecue or make breakfast. No braai tongs were available and the small fridge does not get cold at all. The place has so much potential but it doesn't seem like much attention is paid to the cleanliness around the units and at the bomas. The bomas are not cleaned and neither are the units, so trash inside the unit so if you have a lot of trash it smells later and you can't put the trash outside because then the monkeys will make a mess of it. There is also no privacy between your unit and the neighbors. So you just have to put up with their music, loud talk etc. Really think that management can take better care of the cleanliness of the lodge and improve the kitchen area. Was generally disappointing about the cleanliness and poor maintenance because it can be such a nice place.
When we arrived in the afternoon, the cleaner informed us that unfortunately they did not have towels ready for us, they would not be ready for us until the next day. After unpacking, we realized our back door wasn't working. We called Sonja and she did arrange for them to fix it. Christa was with us and was really helpful and the next day brought a new doorknob that my husband put in (he offered to help). When we wanted to eat in the evening after our barbecue, we had one plate, and one knife and fork, with a small plate and two porridge bowls. Had to arrange for it again. We had enough crockery for a day after they brought it the next day. A day later when we made our breakfast in the morning, there were no plates. I sent Sonja an e-mail, which she has not yet answered, because my call was not answered. My husband called her and she said that the monkeys had broken the plates the day before and that they were now in town to buy new ones. Surely they can let you know, if that was the case, that unfortunately you won't have any plates, because it seems to me they don't keep stock, or bring you others? I let them know twice that the sink outside is leaking, so all your shopping gets wet inside the closet. Nothing done about it. The toilet broke, which my husband fixed himself. The window above my head was broken. You couldn't close the window properly and as a result a cold wind blew above my head all night. Love the forest and must say the experience outside was wonderful. The animals come right up to you, but the stay was really a disappointment. I really think it's either not managed well, or someone somewhere just doesn't really care. I don't like Russia and will avoid it at all costs and I'm not complaining either, but this was really just a disappointment from the moment we got there.
We really enjoyed it and Mabalingwe is an awesome place!
A mosquito trap per unit would really help.
Had too little time to see and do everything. Will definitely book again for a little longer. Fantastic. Can't wait to go again. Tranquility and so much more.
Toilet leaking and our little house smelled bad for 2 days and the floor was wet, didn't even want to go to the bathroom, and no one came to clean. The shower was clogged, and the whole cottage almost flooded, had to use the towels to dry. The braai area looked bad with all the bottles still lying there. The front door lock needs to be replaced, it gets stuck, then it can't open again. The house definitely needs attention.
