We had a wonderful stay. The house is beautifully furnished and the view is exceptional. Completely safe. Many birds seen on the walking paths. Will definitely go back again as we enjoyed every moment.
Mark was well organised and ensured we found the right location and was on hand to welcome us. (He also has an avo farm so we got a few bags at a very good price!)

The stay was absolutely wonderful. The place has everything and was squeaky clean. The cottage is nestled in the Magoebaskloof valley and has great bird life as well as a nearby waterfall/stream that gave it an even more calming atmosphere. The outside bath was so relaxing and the braai area was such a great place to kuier. We loved our stay here and will definitely be back in the future! All the information was well laid out, Mark was super friendly and our stay was the perfect breakaway.
We had a wonderful stay in the Narina Cottage. We were a bit unlucky with the weather for our short stay and didn't have the opportunity to fully explore all the walks. It's so wonderful that the cottages are deep in the forest, really peaceful. The birding was fantastic and we managed to see the Narina Trogon. The cottage was very comfortable and homely, clean and well-equipped. I would highly recommend it. The host kept us well informed of load shedding, etc. I really hope to come back again soon and spend a longer period in magical Magoebaskloof.
Our third stay at Magoebaskloof Birders' Cottages and again it was just amazing. If you need to get away from life, this is the perfect place. There are so many small, thoughtful details everywhere. It will certainly not be our last.
Unit was well appointed and lacked nothing. WiFi was a bonus, thankfully no TV. For birders this is an awesome spot, there is a bird hide and several trails on the farm, so plenty to do. An added bonus at the accommodation is the small container of wild bird seed. You are able to sit on the patio and watch the Red-backed Mannikin, Swee Waxbills, Dusky Flycatchers (nesting nearby) and a host of other awesome bird life feasting on the seeds and bathing in the small water bath, perfect for photography. The outside bath and (donkey) heated hot tub were brilliant!
Lovely walking paths along the river and waterfalls. There is a lot of bird life at the cottage. The nature is special - green, with many trees and mountains.

Trogon exceeded our wildest expectations! Everything we needed was there. It almost felt like our own home. Everything was exquisite and showed high quality. It is not only a beautiful environment with many birds, it is also a very romantic place. There is a fireplace in the cottage, king size bed, outdoor bath (lovely private), spacious shower and candles on the edge of the indoor bath! Excellent provision has been made so that load shedding does not sour the stay. The garden and surroundings were visible from everywhere in the house with large windows in all rooms. It is also very safe. We will definitely go there again!

Robin Cottage was incredibly well-equipped with everything you could need. The outdoor bath or shower is a must! Walk through the forest listening to bird calls or just relax and take in the beautiful scenery.

The Trogon Cottage in which we stayed is very well equipped with everything you need for luxury self-catering accommodation. The fireplace, which can also be used for a barbecue, is quite handy, especially if it's cold and wet outside and you want to barbecue. It is deep in the Magoebaskloof and the setting is absolutely fantastic with beautiful views and quite a few walking paths for some exercise. Can highly recommend it.
What a beautiful place among the mountains! Total tranquility, in beautiful nature. There are short walking paths along the river to waterfalls, as well as in the yellowwood forest to where you can look out over the farm. The cottage has everything one could need and more, not to mention the outdoor bath and plunge pool to cool your feet in after a morning's walk. Huisie is also equipped to operate without Eskom power if necessary. There are also more than enough attractions in the immediate vicinity.
This was exactly what we needed for our anniversary weekend getaway. Sure it was a bit rainy but the scenery, the extra thought that went into extras. It was super awesome, I am going to make a plan to go again soon. We absolutely loved it!

Beautiful birdlife around your private cottage with a lovely outdoor pool with enough hot water, and enough hot tub! You can walk and breathe clean air on the many hiking trails. You are completely private, but willing help is just a phone call away. For sure a place to go back to again and again.
We really enjoyed the stay in Robin's Cottage. The house is well equipped. The dirt road into the accommodation was in pretty good condition, our Polo was able to maintain it well. You feel like you are really hiding in nature. The outdoor bathroom was a favorite! Will definitely go out of our way to visit Magoebaskloof again.
Deep in the forest with many birds around you. Can sit in the bath and look at the trees and birds. Wonderful location. Very private. Host welcomed us personally. Coffee tray was much appreciated as we flew from Cape Town and didn't really have groceries. The dirt road to the cottage is quite bad and it was difficult to get there with a small rental car - you should definitely have a vehicle with high ground clearance. But definitely value for money.

The large windows around the house invite the natural beauty in. The kitchen is equipped with everything needed and the indoor fireplace/braai makes it perfect for colder days. The outdoor bath is a luxurious tranquility. Mark is helpful and friendly.
Of all the holiday accommodation we have stayed at, we have not come across accommodation as well equipped as this one. Attention is given to the finest details and everything is in its place. The location is incredible, with exceptional views over the valley. The owner was also extremely helpful. Although we never felt unsafe, we (coming from the Capital of Crime) did wonder a bit about our safety. I think if the sliding door could be extra secured, people would be more relaxed. But with all that said we would definitely stay here again.
The owner did his best to solve the Eskom poor electricity supply and response. Warm water from the donkey morning and evening! The cottage was clean inside but cheaply renovated - you can live with that. Outside the rondavel and rusted window panes are a sight for sore eyes. The small splash pool looks like a dirty fish pond. Low profile cars will not make it on the dirt road to the cottage.

Can 1000% recommend Birders' Cottage. We stayed in the Trogon Cottage for two people. The host did not miss anything and the cottage is very well prepared and setup nothing was overseen. 1st time ever I stayed in a cottage where even bodywash and bubble bath was provided and also insect repellent, clean towels, enough fire wood firelighters and matches etc, even bird seed for the wild birds (awesome). The garden is beautiful with spectacular views and other surroundings are stunning. We are planning too visit the cottage again as our son is now living and working in Magoebaskloof! Well done Mark we will meet you again soon!

This was our second visit to Birders' Cottages, this time in another unit, and once again we were blown away by the breathtakingly beautiful views, the bird life and the walking trails. We brought my parents along this time, it was their first visit to the Limpopo province and also to Magoebaskloof and they very much enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend this place over and over and over again.
A lovely place in the gorges, peaceful and quiet. Walking/hiking routes are easy and not too far. Lots of birds to identify. The house is comfortable and very well furnished with enough water (and hot water) and everything you could possibly need. Plus even more. We were kindly received by Mark, the owner. We were there for 4 nights and can recommend the place. Everything is nice and clean. Would love to visit Birders' Cottages again in the future.

The service I received from the moment I booked my accommodation, before my arrival, on arrival and after my stay was out of this world. I have never experienced such professional service. The accommodation was a pleasant surprise. It was homely and cosy and exceptionally clean and stocked with quite a few extras to make your stay comfortable. The location and setting of the accommodation is out of this world, the cottage has a view of the valley below and the mountains around you situated a dense forest and the sound of the running river water. If you need a place to relax and peace of soul then this is for you, then there is quite a few walking trails if you feel to recon the area.and take in the beauty of the area. The entrance road to the accommodation is narrow and be warned if the road is wet due to rains you might have a problem at certain steep incline but there are concrete strips which helps a lot. Without a doubt a worthwhile visit and a excellent night-stop to break your journey into the Lowveld.

This weekend was a very much needed getaway for two very tired individuals who live very busy lives with two small children. It was my husbands birthday and I must say we enjoyed the weekend thoroughly! We had soft rain the whole of Saturday but that did not stop us from having a nice and hot bath in the most beautiful outside bath in the rain! If we get sick it would be worth it! We also did some of the trail in the rain and I must say I won't do it any other way! It was the most beautiful nature scenes I have ever come across in my life! Can I come live there permanently? I just want to say thank you from two very tired parents we are now recharged and ready for the last few months of this year! The road to the cottages are not that bad at all, I stress we would have trouble getting out because all of the rain and we drive a quite low car but we had absolutely no trouble at all!
Trogan is a beautiful little place, ideal for two people. Incredibly well equipped with everything you need and more. Definitely worth it!
It was incredibly peaceful and relaxing at the Trogon Cottage. The facilities in the Cottage are extremely neat and in a typical farm theme. The wooden geyser teaches you to be patient with the hot water, but it is still sufficient. We just realized that the path to Trogon Cottage might be more difficult for normal vehicles than for 4x2 or SUVs but a competent driver will be able to master it with a little patience.
It is a very nice place and we would like to stay there again for a few nights in December 2018. Certainly not for everyone, but if you work in the city every day, this is the place for you to go rest.
Thank you so much for such a lovely getaway in the mountains. The cosy fireplace, the braai overlooking the mountains and the outdoor bath were a few highlights of a stay. The kitchen was very well stocked. The staff were friendly and helpful and made sure the donkey was lit every morning and afternoon to ensure the water was always nice and warm. The walks around the property were also very lovely and well signposted.
The additional extras such as swimming towels, wood charcoal, make the stay comfortable. Entries about the walking routes helped a lot. I really appreciated the directions to avoid the people and dogs.

Next time we will definitely stay longer! The large tub outside in the bush in the moonlight under the twinklings stars was heavenly!

We had a lovely stay at Birders’ Cottage where we stayed in the Targon Cottage. The owner (Mark) looked after our luggage while we did a 2 day hiking trail (thank you Mark). We really enjoyed and appreciated the outdoor shower. The gardens are beautiful and full of life.

We were 4 adults who had a wonderful time in this beautiful environment for 4 days. Birder's Cottage is very special and is indeed like a nest in a tree. Nature is omnipresent! The amenities and facilities in the house are excellent: the donkey hot water system is great and brings back many memories and works great! The outside barbecue, the inside (living room), the bedrooms and the kitchen were all wonderful and comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you may need for cooking and barbecuing. The gas stove works perfectly. Congratulations Mark with the right place to satisfy a Gautenger who longs for nature and rest! Hope we can come again!
Magoebaskloof Birders' Cottages are in an incredibly beautiful area. The cottage is very fully equipped and is very comfortable. The place makes one feel like a new person.
What an experience that was. Mark communicated wonderfully and accommodated our very late check in. His foreman Solly was a star and made us feel very relaxed, safe and welcome. It is definitely a destination I would like to visit again.
5 nights of total relaxation at Robin Cottage! When you exit from the main road you have to follow a 3 km jeep track (not advisable for a vehicle with low ground clearance) through a forest, a prelude to a fairytale. The hot water donkey was stoked every morning and evening but it didn't bother us. They respected our privacy, yet housekeeping was available when needed. So it isn't a chrome and granite house with a TV, but nothing was run-down or out of order. Hand soap at each basin, Peaceful sleep and tissues on every night stand. Radox bubble bath at the magnificent outdoor bath. 4 Braai tongs. 6 Cutting boards. Not just one drying cloth, but three! And evern Gladwrap - I couldn't believe it! Wood for the braai and the fireplace, and firelighters. I can continue, bowls, cutlery etc. for many more people than just 7. Gas stove in case Eskom dropped us. Our double bed had a great matress. If we needed anything Mark was available immediately to lend a hand. That's what counts. So our vehicle wasn't behind lock and key, but I suppose it is just our Gauteng paranoia acting up. I don't think the beautiful Samango-apes posed any threat to our safety. My wife and I felt like Adam and Eve in paradise, hidden away in a forest surrounded by the sound of the river and the birds. The night sounds were so soothing without the ever-present noise of a TV. This is our kind of place, for an affordable holiday or even a second honeymoon! Five nights flew by. Thanks Mark!

Robin Cottage can accommodate 6 guests and comprises 2 bedrooms, a sitting room, a bathroom, a kitchen and an additional private outdoor double bath, shower and toilet. The first bedroom has a double bed and an en-suite outdoor bathroom. The shower and bath are out in the open and is private but the toilet is undercover. The second bedroom is split into 2 levels and comprises a double bed on the mezzanine level and twin single beds on the lower level, as well as a single bed in the alcove and, has access to an indoor bathroom. The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove, fridge and freezer, as well as a microwave. Linen and towels are provided and the cottage is not serviced. Hot water is supplied by a wood burning donkey-geyser. Guests may arrange for the donkey to be lit at times to suit them, however, it is a simple operation and can easily be done by the guests themselves. The unit has a splash pool.
