Makhato Lodge 96 is a thatched self-catering bush lodge located in the Sondela Nature Reserve near Bela Bela. The Sondela Nature Reserve in the Limpopo province is a private game reserve just 150 km from Johannesburg, where you can enjoy the tranquillity of the bushveld, encounters with zebra, kudu, impala and giraffe, or a spot of bird watching.
Lodge 96 can accommodate up to 8 guests and comprises 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a guest toilet, an upstairs loft area, and an open-plan kitchen and living area. The first bedroom contains a queen-size bed and an en-suite bathroom with a bath and a shower, a toilet and a washbasin. The second and third bedrooms each contain 2 single beds and a shower en suite with a toilet and washbasin. There are ceiling fans and wall heaters in each bedroom.
The upstairs loft area is air-conditioned and contains a lounge area and a flat-screen TV with a selection of DStv channels. This area opens to a covered balcony with an 8-seater outdoor dining table and chairs, a built-in braai, and canvas roll-up, roll-down sides.
The downstairs lounge offers comfortable seating, a fireplace, and a flat-screen TV with a selection of DStv channels. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering with a fridge-freezer, stove and oven, microwave, kettle, toaster, a dishwasher, washing machine and a tumble-dryer. There is also a 6-seater dining counter with stools.
Outside the house has a thatched lapa with outdoor dining furniture, a built-in braai, and a fridge. There is also a boma area with a fire pit braai area, and seating.
Sondela offers an on-site restaurant and bar, a farmyard coffee shop, a general dealer for basic necessities, communal swimming pools, a wildlife centre, and the on-site Iketla Wellness and Spa. There are plenty of activities to keep you busy including game drives, horse rides, bicycles for hire, a 4x4 obstacle course, and guided quad rides.

2 guests' feedbackWe thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at Makhato Lodge. Lovely spacious home was perfect for 6 people. Warthogs came to visit and the night monkeys frolicking in the trees provided much enjoyment. Lovely time around the fire at the boma.
It was an amazing break and the whole family really enjoyed it. We haven't had so much fun with the whole family during a holiday in a long time and will definitely be planning the next visit quickly. It does one a lot of good to have a little break from the city. One also feels so close to nature with all the animals. The facilities were amazing and would recommend to anyone.

No loud music is allowed, no moving of cutlery, crockery, bedding, etc is allowed to be moved between units as each unit has a different owner.
