255 guests' feedbackFantastic secluded location and amazing views - in the bush. Perfect for a peaceful, relaxed getaway!
We had a wonderful, quiet, peaceful time in the bush, surrounded by wild animals.
My wife and I utterly enjoyed our weekend away at Forest Lodge in Mamagalie Lodge. We had total privacy among the forest trees, and we loved the peace and quiet. Everything was to our expectations, especially the sunbed, the fireplace which kept us warm, and the lovely bathtub overlooking the forest trees. We spotted baboons, a sable antelope, kudu, and a giraffe at Mamagalie Lodge. The hosts were excellent, and William was brilliant in checking us in to our lodge for the weekend. We certainly recommend Mamagalie Lodge for a forest getaway in total privacy!
Was great. Will always go again.
It was great to get away and spend a few days in nature! Will definitely go again!
Very pleasant place, very nice stay. Will go there again.
We saw no one, we heard no one, we had a wonderful stay. The hike to the rock pools was amazing.
We really did enjoy it. It was amazing.
Mamagalie Serenity Lodge is very clean and tidy.
It was one of the most beautiful places we stayed. So quiet and peaceful.
Thank you for a wonderful stay. I will definitely be back.
The nicest and best place to stay that my partner and I could have chosen.
Relaxing, quiet, just what one needs to recharge.
Worth the trouble, safe and better than expected. Will definitely recommend.
Fantastic service, neat and safe, more than adequately equipped. Definitely not our last visit.
We had a wonderful stay.
Our stay at Mamagalie Lodge lived up to our expectations.
The lodge is ideal to decompress, the isolation and quiet were exactly what we needed. The solar works so load shedding not a real concern. We tried the outside bath but made the fire too hot so we learned, a fun exercise. Staff super friendly and helpful.
It was definitely a special getaway. Very peaceful between the trees and the river. The hostess was very helpful and friendly.
If you love nature this is it. The pool was neat and clean. Unfortunately, there is not much to do. If the purpose is to rest, relax, and read a book, this is it.
The hosts gave awesome service and explained everything in detail. We loved the peace and tranquility, exactly what we needed to get away from the hustle and bustle.
People were very helpful, and the unit was very well equipped and tidy. Ideal place to have a good rest. Feel free to put air conditioning in for Summer months.
Lovely spot with a very nicely outfitted house. What bothered us was the security floodlights outside the house, on all night, so no chance for star gazing or feeling you are really "in the bush, away from the city". I guess that's the downside of a location within two hours' drive of Joburg/Pretoria and Rustenburg.
Very pleasant and comfortable.
We were greeted by Giles on arrival. What a friendly person. He took us to our lodge, where he briefed us on everything we needed. The unit was clean and everything was as advertised. We had an awesome stay.
We received a wonderful warm welcome by Niki and William. The accommodation is well designed and equipped; you feel at home as you walk in. The place is nice, clean, and extremely quiet. The splash pool was a big surprise and welcoming in the heat wave. Perfect place to relax and find peace of mind.
The little house Forest Lodge where we stayed met all your expectations. It was immaculately clean and literally has everything you need. We really enjoyed the games. Unfortunately, we couldn't use the hiking trails, because my wife has a serious back problem. However, the silence was very nice and it was wonderful to just admire nature.
Tranqulility was the perfect place for our 25th wedding anniversary. Private, quiet and the tranquility of nature.
Will we visit Mamagalie again and in particular Forest Lodge? Yes, a thousand times yes because the silence and seclusion are fantastic in accommodation that meets everything we needed. Will go again in the summer specifically to experience the forest bath, forest shower and to sleep in the high duvet. It is unique and something exceptional to experience. The security setup is certainly one of the best we have experienced at Forest Lodge.
The staff and the lodge is wonderful. I would recommend Mamagale Lodge to everyone it is beautiful.
We were so relaxed, we didn't want to go back to the city. The silence, the surroundings and the view are incredibly beautiful. A photo cannot describe it. The sunset is breathtaking. We would recommend the Bush Lodge to everyone, as well as the service of the website. Thank you very much for excellent service.
If you and your partner are looking for tranquility, natural beauty and luxury in one lodge, Mamagalie Lodge is just the place for it. Second time we have stayed at Mamagalie Lodge and we will definitely return for a 3rd time.
A babbling stream, birds singing and a little house in the woods. What more can one ask for?
Our host Melanie was superb! She's relatable, friendly and easygoing.
It was breathtaking, received a very warm welcome. Quiet, just a place to go for couples.
Melanie received us very warmly and was very helpful with everything we needed. The place was beautiful, tidy and we got everything we wanted and more. We would recommend Mamagalie Lodge anytime. People who need rest and quiet get it there in buckets. We would love to go there again.
This was our 2nd time at Mamagalie Lodge. Great view, good security, well appointed. All you need. Perfect. Absolute peace of mind.
The silence of the place, the fact that you sit in the mountains and watch for wildlife! The beauty of the nature and the sleeping places are fantastic, good value for money. Definitely one of the most beautiful places for the value of money and the walking route is indescribably beautiful.
Excellent location in an exceptional housing type. Excellent value for money.
We would recommend it for a weekend getaway. The tranquility is good for the soul.
Lovely breakaway, loved the feeling of staying in a modern treehouse, very romantic and such a great host. We really enjoyed the seclusion.
Would recommend Mamagalie Lodge to anyone looking to escape the city mess.
Thanks to Melanie, place was neat and very cosy, we had a great stay and would definitely come back.
It had been a special break, the view is breathtaking and sitting in the bath in the mornings looking out at all the animals was one of the best parts. The electric blankets were a winner on the cold evenings. Would recommend Mamagalie Lodge anytime.
Great hospitality. Peaceful and beautiful. Exceeded all expectations. Beautiful scenery.
Mamagalie Lodge is a beautiful place to get away from the stress and busy day-to-day lifestyle. The peaceful, natural serenity that surrounds you was absolutely amazing. The best part of our stay was Melanie, our host/ the owner, who was very pleasant, helpful and attentive to us. She made us feel so welcome, it felt like a home away from home. Will definitely be back.
Very peaceful beautiful place. Just specify which main gate you are standing at because they have 2, if you want to go in and out. but it's a fantastic place. Will go again.
Enjoying good quality time with my husband.
The place was stunning with everything we needed available.
The place is very peaceful, lying in the bath and looking out over the field where the goats play was really food for the soul. Privacy at its best with no one to bother you. The fireplace worked overtime and kept the place nice and warm through the winter evenings. Stunning and we'll see you again, thank you.
I would recommend getting better heating systems, there are cold mornings and the geyser doesn't get that hot. And add a microwave, if that uses too much electricity maybe an air fryer?
The venue has excellent scenery and the lodge was a fantastic experience. The room felt as though you were in a tree house and surrounded by magnificent forestry. The open plan layout of the room is a further plus point as it allows you to take in the surroundings through the glass windows that surround the room. It was great to have the sliding glass doors of the room open as it allows the heat to escape as the breeze comes through and further amplifies the sounds of the multitude of birds that sit in the trees around the room. The only downside to the large open glass doors is the fact that in the evenings, the lights attract bugs and insects that find their way into your room. The room is well suited and has all the necessary items. It is worth mentioning, however, that there are only two items of the usual kitchenware such as glasses and plates, which you will find yourself having to clean before every meal. One last note on the stay at Tranquility: the host was great on arrival as she opened the gate for us and then proceeded to show us around the place and explain the hiking trail on the farm. It must be noted that when booking your stay at the farm, it is best to arrange beforehand your planned departure as this was an issue. There was no cellphone tower signal and the host was unaware of our departure despite the checkout time as stipulated by the farm. We eventually got a neighboring farm owner to open the front gate to allow our exit.
Was quiet and peaceful with beautiful wildlife.
Nice. but limited because we couldn't just hang out quietly in the middle of the forest. Was with some friends but you are not allowed to play any loud music and we were called because our voices were loud. I downloaded an app on my phone to see how many decibels we made in noise more or less. We were between 80 - 100dB most of the time but we were engaged because we were laughing and talking loudly. If you want to be quiet in the woods with only nature, this is the place for you, but if you want to play some music and hang out quietly, you will most likely be silenced, so I don't recommend the place .
Roads may improve.
Everyone has and continues to suffer after Covid. This is understandable, but general cleanliness of places is more important. And I feel that if you advertise certain things that are available, they should be there. The grass around the pool was not even cut, the pool hairs as advertised were not there. The curtains were full of spider nests. The general reception here seems very sloppy and unprofessional. The road is also not at all for people like you say who do not have a 4x4. I also feel that the website could be updated so that you can see exactly what you get in which house and what not! Mamagalie Lodge doesn't look like a 4 star getaway!
Here is the best and most wonderful place to find yourself and your eggnog again. Many thanks Managalie Loge and staff.
We enjoyed everything. Jaccuzzi, hiking, animals, birds. Tranquility is just what a weary soul needs. Thank you for your hospitality.
Tranquility lodge is perfect for a quick web break with your partner, very nice view and the spa bath is of course the highlight.
The lodge has a beautiful view, unit is comfortable and staff helpful.
There are just no words to describe the visit. Was very very nice. As someone says: you come to find your soul. The accommodation is top notch.
We had the friendliest welcoming to our stay. Lodge is so well looked after and clean! Definitely worth every cent!
Very nice place and absolutely worth visiting.
A beautiful view with realistic pictures of the accommodation, complete privacy and very relaxing environment.
Mamagalie Lodge exceeded our expectations. It's a beautiful place, the house is clean, very nice and has everything you would need. It's very safe and the nature around you is incredibly beautiful. It's peaceful and relaxed.
Definitely recommended.
The water pools are definitely worth it. We had a good time and rested.
Private, peaceful, safe and just bliss.
The view and hot tub were our favorite!
Animals. Nature. Security. All good.
WiFi would be welcome. Maybe bring a car for the green gate, because if it rains it can be nice and wet. Trees open a little for winter sun during the day. Curtain or blind for the skylight in the room, because the moon had us quite awake.
Plek waar jy kan wegbreek van stad se geraas en net kan terugsit en herlaai.
It was a wonderful experience. We stayed in Bush Lodge cottage, very clean and tidy with privacy and the silence of the forest! Definitely recommended for a "deep in the woods" break. Easy walking route and was lucky to see wildlife too. Good service and communication throughout.
This was my first Christmas spent without my family, my partner and I decided to spend it at this location. We had a peaceful stay, private enough to enjoy the jacuzzi and outside shower, you have your own braai area as well. This is the spot if you want to escape the city life. We enjoyed our stay! Service is excellent, can call at anytime to assist when needed.
Clean, tidy and very private. There's a small pool but very cold. Very nice with a braai at your place, just take a flytrap. It's on a farm so it's understandable. Sleeping place great and all dining facilities available. Would recommend any couples there. We drove the BMW Adventure. There is dirt road, some rough and sand. Beware there is loose sand for road bikes. Lots of security around premises.
Love the silence, and incredible scenery. Melanie is so friendly and hospitable, would go back to stay there again anytime.
There were no unexpected amounts on the bill but if you leave dishes, "you need to drop a hundred for the staff" We wanted to leave a little later, "you need to drop a hundred". It definitely put us off, I never carry cash anymore anyway.
The lodge itself is very cute and completely adequate for two people. Due to the many stairs because the lodge is laid out on different levels, it may not be recommended for older people or people with mobility problems. We were disappointed because we were expecting more wildlife, but we didn't move around the grounds much. Nevertheless, we were there for silence and it got us in excess.
There is a lot of game on the farm and we were privileged to see the kudus, waterbuck, red heart cattle and a large herd of blue wildebeest. There are baboons and then monkeys that especially visit the chalets. Owners urgently ask not to feed the monkeys, and therefore the monkeys are not troublesome and stay at a distance. There is a rich birdlife. Many thanks Giles and Niki for a relaxing time at Mamagalie Lodge.
Clean and tidy with all amenities. The bedrooms and kitchen and bathroom on different levels with wooden floors and stairs. Very well laid out and interesting, and it creates space. Rock pools are a nice walk from the house, and definitely worth it. Many places to visit in the area.
Perfectly situated in a forest, the lodge was an ideal place to relax and come to peace with nature. The forest provides an ideal backdrop to achieving the calmness of the mind and connecting with your partner. With little or no signal for phones, it provided an almost complete break with the world, allowing your mind to disconnect and a recovery of the soul. Restful and relaxing, with all the amenities close to hand.
The place is beautiful and privacy is the key, it's like a priority to their visitors. There are so many animal visits. I have seen a lot of different and beautiful animals, some it was the first time seeing them besides on TV. They have rock pools which are part of a hiking activity.
Silence soothes the soul and Mamagalie Lodge provides just that. And an exceptional view. We stayed in the Tranquility cottage which offered an exquisite outdoor shower, a burbling stream below and an overall brilliant upmarket "tree-house" experience. A wonderful getaway for two in close proximity to Johannesburg. We will definitely be back when we feel the need to "breathe" and "be" again.
Hiking trail to rock pools is a yes for everyone. Mountain bike is also an exciting experience. It's really a place to be and to feel free.
As always, our getaway to Mamagalie was rest for the soul. Get away from the city's hustle and bustle and all the stresses. See you again next year!
Tranquillity Lodge is surrounded by the bushveld and the lodge itself makes you feel one with the bush but at the same time you're living in luxury.
Relax and go for a walk to rock pools. Beautiful place. Would love to visit Mamagalie again.
Excellent service and very peaceful. Exactly what we needed and private.
We stayed in the Tranquility Lodge, which is absolutely beautiful. The lodge was extremely clean, well-stocked with all the kitchen utensils needed. Melanie was very helpful and friendly. Very quiet and totally relaxing. The walks are great too!
The manager, Nikki, was very friendly and helpful. However we met the owner and her son and they were arrogant, unfriendly, almost treated us like trespassers and insulted our car. Because of them, I would not go back.
I wish I could have stayed longer. Absolutely beautiful!
If you are looking for a place to rest and relax and forget how busy life can be, this is the place for sure.
Perfect place to get away for a few days and just spend time in the woods. Excellent service.
Worth a repeat visit.
Enjoyed it very much, secluded and as romantic as one can make it, enjoyed the view, waking up in the morning and sitting in the spa bath every evening. Had the geese coming to visit us every afternoon, had the horses once, did not get in contact with any person during the stay at the facility, one can "shut down" completely, will definitely go again.
What a wonderfully peaceful and tidy place to switch off and enjoy nature. All facilities one needs are there and we especially enjoyed the walk to the rock pools with the children. I would definitely recommend Mamagalie Lodge and we would definitely go again. Thanks to Nikki for all your help with the arrangements to make this a memorable weekend.
Great place, great people who welcome you there. I will go back again for sure.
Lekker vir 'n kuier in die bos.
Stunning atmosphere. Romantic. And definitely a must if you just want to get away from all the stress.
The hot tub is a nice treat. It is better to arrange in advance for a remote control for the gates, (there are 2) as getting in and out is a hassle and movement is restricted without it.
Secluded. You don't know about other people. Luxury accommodation. Much larger than one can infer from the photos. Had a great time. Dirt and farm roads were very good but I was glad I went with a bakkie and not a flat car, although a sedan will have no problem getting to the accommodation. Can definitely recommend Mamagalie.
Mamagalie is a perfect getaway if you love nature and its sounds. The rock pools are beautiful and we had a lot of fun swimming there. The communication and service was excellent and the unit well furnished. We would definitely recommend Mamagalie! We would recommend driving an SUV or van instead.
Tucked in the forest, lots of big windows left us feeling part of the surroundings. We spent some time up on the sky platform reading and lazing. The walks up the mountain to the pool was fantastic, got some good animal sightings. Keep an eye out for vultures riding the thermals. The lodge was very comfortable with everything we needed. The biggest problem was that the days were too short as was our stay. We'd love to come back. Niki and Felix thanks for looking after us.
We needed a break to just become human again. The silence with lots of different birds singing was just what we lacked. The house was clean and tidy with everything needed. I am a bed snob and also have a back problem and the bed was very comfortable.
It was so peaceful there and we enjoyed the silence. The spa bath was exceptional.
Very quiet and peaceful in the woods and trees with a 360 degree view in the forest. Nicely furnished and nice place to sleep, braai area, decks and roof bed on top of the house.
Going in and out at the gate was sometimes difficult with the bad signal. Think the place could benefit from a gas geyser too. Other than that it was very nice.
Was an incredibly peaceful time. From the warm welcome to the visits around the fire.
Quiet and a lot of privacy, a lot of leaks with all the animals around you.
The view is exceptional, as is the privacy and silence. The bush lodge is rough, but everything works and is clean and tidy. The solar geyser is a problem in the winter if you want to clean twice a day. The walk to the water pools is worth the effort and you also walk close to various species of wildlife.
Really enjoyed the silence and tranquility.
We really enjoyed our stay and the privacy. The unit was clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated, with all the glass you get the inside out treehouse feel. We saw lots of birds, well behaved monkey's, squirrels and a very lovable cute cat came to visit us. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful farm with us, we will recommend it to anybody who wants to relax and recharge. The only thing we did not enjoy was leaving, we would have loved to stay longer and will definitely be back.
It was wonderful. Nice location. Very clean and tidy. Mamagalie Lodge will definitely see us again.
Was well received. Flowers all over the place to welcome you. Stay was lovely and peaceful. Very neat and clean, safe with the alarm and electric fence. If you just want to get away from the city and decompress this is the place. We really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend it.
If you need a break from responsibility and the city, I would highly recommend Mamagalie Lodge. We stayed in Serenity Lodge and had a lovely, romantic weekend with loads of privacy. It was perfect and the animals kept us entertained.
See stars.
This is the third time we have visited Mamagalie and the second time we were at Serenity. If I had my way it won't be the last time.
The area is completely secluded from the other guests which is an absolute plus. We were driving a Polo and it was difficult to prevent the belly of the vehicle from having to stop all the time.
Giles is a pleasant host and he made us feel at home from the start, very nice that you can be completely to one side without disturbance. Lovely place and would highly recommend if you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle.
We had a wonderful stay. The lodge is very private and secluded. Perfect for a romantic break for two. Everything was just as described and in excellent condition. A small mishap regarding our check-in was rectified very promptly.
We had a lovely weekend at Mamagalie Lodge: serenity. This lodge is a must if you want privacy. The lodge has beautiful views. We would definitely recommend to all our people. Thanks.
Friendly reception Very tidy and do not see or hear other guests which is a plus point. Nature is very beautiful.
Lots to see and do. Places to stay are beautiful in nature and private. Very safe. Nice to relax. There are also many animals to see. Nice walking place. And the rock pools are a must.
Very cute and peaceful place. The people are very friendly, clean and tidy house. Would recommend for a romantic weekend away.
Really nice set up.
Giles and Niki are very pleasant managers, the lodge is very private and has an incredible number of bird species.
Melanie your host is very accommodating and welcoming. The place is in need of some maintenance. Wonderful bed, we slept so well each night. We stayed at River Lodge which was beautiful and good value for money. I would caution if you are allergic to bees to not stay at river lodge as there is a swarm that stay in the large tree by the swimming pool. Each afternoon you have to avoid the pool or light a fire for smoke to calm them down. If you are afraid of spiders be aware each evening you will find spiders in the house. The 4 km walk was great exercise but not worth the 20 min stay at the small rock pool area. Also the pictures are from when they first built the lodges. Be prepared for them to be outdated. Our lodge had a spa bath plug that leaked, the fridge door shelves were missing. The pool plug was black plastic bags etc. We also saw hardly any wildlife.
Quiet, but difficult to get in and out, have to call and reception is very poor.
Private and neat units. Beautiful nature.
Definitely perfect to break away from the hustle and bustle! All that was bad was that I only found out after my reservation that the road is not ideal for normal cars. My car got hurt on the road which has bad elevations and then I couldn't cancel my booking as I only received an email from them a day before saying the roads are bad.
The place is absolutely perfect. But the people have absolutely no people skills. So, we arrange booking in time to be after 3:00 pm as we cannot book in before then because you will be paying about R170 extra pp. So, we were almost there, the traffic is a big factor if you driving all the way from JHB, that is another reason why we would have love to checked in 2 hours earlier. The lady phoned me and ask me "Where are you I'm late for whatever reason". Not my problem at all as a guest is it? Nope. Remember I'm your guest I don’t owe you any damn thing. Once stopped she pulled open my door as if I'm a child. Again, not my problem if you are late for anything, I'm the guest. So, she goes through everything with us rushing. Once in the room she told us she painted the cupboards the same morning. Paint in a room smells a bit and it gave us such a headache. We couldn't really sleep because of a rat in the roof. The thing was running around like crazy. We didn't get back our key deposit in cash as she wanted it in cash. We were forced to clean the place and wash our dishes before checking out if that was not done, we would lose the key deposit. So, we were braaiing ribs on the Friday and when I opened the bag some of the marinate spilled on the table cloth I washed it out to the best of my ability. I received a WhatsApp message on a Sunday night to replace the R500 table cloth. I cannot see that it was the price at all but surely, they must have a backup for things like these. Not taking just money and fining people for every little small thing. I did not receive my R200 deposit and now I need to buy a table cloth for R500 on top of that, surely, I will not pay that for a table cloth. I have never in my life came across anything like this. I did nothing to harm the place I spilled sauce by accident. Accidents do happen. I would have replaced it by all means if I burned the thing but a stain? You get fined for this and fined for that. This is absolutely no way to handle a place like this. I'm sure if your nose bleed for any reason you need to replace the whole bed maybe not sure?
Will go again for sure. The nature and tranquility are indescribable. If you want peace and quiet, this is definitely the place to go. Many thanks to Giles and Melanie your places are beautiful. Keep it up.
We saw a lot of beautiful wildlife, namely kudus, nyala, blue wildebeest and more. There was a very peaceful atmosphere with very beautiful flora around us. The room was very neat with a lot of space. We really had a very nice time.
From our arrival on the premises everything went very smoothly and we were warmly welcomed and quickly accommodated in the chalet we booked. The chalet was clean and very neat and well-equipped. During our stay we were not bothered at all and we could just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. We also visited the water pools in the mountains, which are a short walk, but we are fit and enjoyed the wildlife and fresh air very much. The lodge is really very private and the scenery unspoilt. We will definitely visit again.
Was great to get away and stay in absolute peace. The walk to rock pools is also great!
The time in the forest with family was super good. Had time for chatting and just resting. Recommend it to everyone.
Place is beautiful, neat and safe! Will go back again for sure. Dirt road not the best for flat vehicles, but otherwise there were no problems!
The peaceful nature life throughout the day puts you in the right mood for a late afternoon barbecue and a romantic bath in the delicious jet bath. Jackal sounds throughout the night give the feeling of being in the forest, and the walking route to the "Rock pools" is an experience.
It was one of our best breakaways we had in a long time. The privacy is the best.
Mamagalie has found a special place in our hearts. We felt like we were alone on the farm. It was so peaceful! The beautiful big trees and the foxes that call in the night. Sweet clean drinking water that comes from the mountain. The highlight was the long walk to the rock pool where we swam in the clear water. Not much wildlife seen, just a group of monkeys and a herd of blue wildebeest. Children really enjoyed it and are already asking us when we go again.
Baie mooi plek, sal weer soentoe gaan.
It was really beautiful and peaceful. Very neat and clean, and we enjoyed it a lot!
It was absolutely wonderful and we couldn't have asked for more. Nature, the privacy, neatness and absolute peace gave us the chance to recharge. Friendly staff and and a beautiful place were the cherry on the cake. We will definitely be back.
The houses are situated between a beautiful tree world, the silence penetrates into your soul within a day and you can just relax, a short walk away is a beautiful stone waterhole where you can cool down and forget about the rest of society. Will go there again for a few days off.
Wow! What a great experience! Excellent service and value for money. Our hike to the water pools was memorable and something we'll do again. We loved not seeing anyone around us and having complete privacy. Only negative for me was having to phone every time you want the main gate opened. A remote or keypad system would be a lot easier.
Beautiful place between beautiful trees and mountains.
Stayed in Forest Lodge. Private, in bush, very quiet and peaceful. Everything clean, well equipped but the building needs some attention here and there. However, don't let that put you off. The open shower on the deck is fantastic. The unit and Bush lodge are away from other units and in the unspoiled nature. Choose one of these two options with peace of mind. Bird watchers will enjoy this selection. Wonderful, soft spring water.
Wonderful tranquility in breathtaking natural beauty.
Peaceful, romantic getaway in beautiful nature. Melanie was very helpful and friendly.
Many thanks to Giles and his wife! He is a good host, but respects one's need for privacy. It is a beautiful, peaceful place with exceptional natural beauty, where one can just breathe and shed the city's stress. Lovely walking route with plenty of wildlife. It's our second visit and we will definitely go again.
The couple running the lodge are very friendly and welcoming. The place is beautiful, but unfortunately we couldn’t experience it fully as it rained nonstop for the whole duration of our stay, plus loadshedding every night. I understand this was nobody’s fault and they tried to make our stay as comfortable as possible (brought candles, informed us of loadshedding schedule and so on), but sure if we experienced it in other circumstances we would have enjoyed it more. The chalets are well equipped and with taste. At least we got to enjoy the Jacuzzi! I was a bit unsettled by all the security measures (and I live in Johannesburg so I’m used to electric fences and all), I am not sure if the crime situation is so dire in that area, or if it is only a precaution, but I feel it takes away from the relaxing experience. Finally, I found the gates system quite cumbersome. The property has two separate gates to pass each way when going in and out, and to have them opened you have to call the owners on their cell phones for each gate each time. Phone coverage is not great so we got stuck a couple of times in front of a closed gate unable to call them to get it open. Maybe a code or a remote would be a better option. All in all, I might have to go back in more favourable conditions to experience it properly.
Nicely laid out, private and a pleasant walking trail.
We stayed in the Forest Lodge. It is very beautiful, lots of space, fireplace in living room and a nice built-in braai. Bathroom has a bath and shower, and there is an outdoor shower. there is a deck outside the bedroom, and where the built-in braai is. You are alone up the mountain, nearest house about 1 km from you. There is an electric fence around the cottage and it has its own alarm. The road up to the lodge is definitely 4x4, you wouldn't want to drive there with a low car. Only 2 low points - you can't go out by gate yourself, you have to call owners. If working on gas, and when gas is finished you must notify owners.
Mamagalie Lodge is the best place to go if you want to get away from the busy city life. We were delighted after the weekend.
Close, safe and romantic.
We had a good rest, the place is really what it is advertised for. We just would have liked more freedom to walk around. We really enjoyed the hiking trail, very beautiful area.
Neat and clean. Lovely towels and warm bedding.
Hiking trail definitely worth it.
Very nice stay. However, one should not want to drive around, and have to go in and out of the gates of the lodge. You don't get a remote for the gates and have to call every time to open the gates. We were there for a wedding, 10:00 that evening the owner wants to know what time we come back, because she wants to go to sleep and is afraid we won't get her hands to open the gates. I pre-arranged with her that we would go to the wedding and she said we would just call her. Bad if you get the message at 10 in the evening, when we haven't even eaten at the wedding. The coffee, sugar and milk they offer when you check in was too little. When I asked about it, they said they don't actually offer coffee and tea, only for the reception, but it was our reception and the coffee was finished. Furthermore, very neat and really nice stay, was neat and clean.
We loved every minute of staying at Mamagalie Lodge. Very peaceful. Wonderful bird life. They will definitely see us again.
Was incredibly pleasant with peace and quiet, everything to refresh you again in today's crazy rush!
Our time at Mamagalie was more than we expected. The Bush Lodge is very private, facilities are neat and the owners are friendly, helpful and concerned. The peaceful surroundings and beautiful view promise for a relaxing and romantic getaway. We would love to visit Mamagalie again!
See stars.
We went to Mamagalie for our second anniversary. It was incredibly nice and definitely a place where you can relax and escape from the city's hustle and bustle. We stayed in Serenity Lodge and had total privacy with a beautiful view of the meadows and wildlife. Would go back to Mamagalie anytime and highly recommend it to anyone looking to get away from technology and noise. The walk to the Rock Pools is totally worth it. It is incredibly beautiful and nice to cool off by. Melanie and Giles are incredibly hospitable and so friendly and make you feel right at home. Enjoyed the animal life so much too.
It was truly a wonderful experience. Privacy in abundance.
The lodge was beautiful. Very tidy and spacious. The lodge staff were very helpful and always on call when needed. A truly incredible experience just 100k's from Joburg. A definite diamond in the rough! We will be returning soon!
It's a great place and really enjoyed it.
We stayed in the River Lodge previously and Serenity Lodge on this trip. Each unit is completely unique and so different from one another. We will definitely return as this is excellent value for money, a stunningly beautiful location, owners are very welcoming and friendly and gave us complete privacy. We loved every minute.
The Lodge is delightfully peaceful with a beautiful view of the gorge over the valley and dam. We really enjoyed the walk to the rock pools. Have a nice weekend away.
The cottage was very well equipped and the bathroom was incredibly romantic. We sat in front of the fireplace every night with a nice glass of red wine. We were very relaxed after the nice stay in the Forest Lodge.
Great for a quick escape from the city. We thoroughly enjoyed the privacy, the outside shower and the double Jacuzzi bath. Lovely romantic getaway.
Incredible place to go for a weekend getaway. The peace and quiet is amazing. Allows you to unwind and spend some quality time with your partner. The views from the hiking trails are breath taking.
We stayed in Tranquility and believe me, the name does the place "justice", you wake up to the monkeys frolicking and the stream babbling under your house, time stands still and you don't hear or see other people! You just have the strength to take on the city again after the time! Melanie and Giles are so friendly and we had a great time talking to them, everything you need is there and we will definitely visit again. The hiking trail to the rock pools is on our list for another time. The alarm in every home gives that extra peace of mind for a good night's rest.
We really enjoyed our stay. No noise! No people in sight! Exactly what we needed and wanted. Mamagalie Lodge was rustic, secure and spacious for the two of us. Will definitely return.
The hostess is amazing. The River Lodge room is beautiful and private. If you are looking for peace and privacy, this is the place for you. We are already planning our next visit.
Dit was regtig lekker! Wat ek wel kan aanbeveel is om 'n 'what to do' in die kamers te sit vir mense wat ekstra iets wil doen in die radius van Mooinooi.
The hostess gave us an excellent welcome en made us feel at home. The nature is the bush is astounding. The area is peaceful and safe. The lodge is beautiful and well equipped. Had lovely two night stay.
Very nice and quiet place hidden between the hills and forests. Lovely braai between the bushes with the sounds of animals in the background and a stream next to the house. The silence and fresh air were perfect!
We were amazed at the wildlife we encountered along the way, it was an added bonus for us. Would recommend Mamagalie Lodge to those just looking for peace and quiet or even the "honeymooners" out there.
We enjoy it. We needed to rest and relax.
It is truly a wonderful place. We stayed in the River Lodge and had a very good rest. I was just disappointed that we had to clean the place ourselves on Sunday, seeing as we paid quite a lot for the weekend.
It is a beautiful view, peaceful atmosphere and the nature and animals enjoyed it very much.
Not too bad. Great security, nice and quiet to rest. They can make some improvements on route markers (people can get lost easily), being available when guests arrive in order to explain things to them face-to-face (especially when guests arrive before 20:00 as per their requirements), giving the option to drive most of the way to the rock pools instead of being forced to walk the full 3 km route. People might want to walk some days and other just take a drive. Improving the small pool at the house which is ice cold, dirty and very small might also be an improvement.
The "lodge" is full of farming equipment and looks like a scary movie scene.
Pleasant host, well equipped unit and very beautiful nature.
We had all the amenities we could need and felt completely safe. Lovely views and wildlife all around. This was one of the best places we have ever stayed at in terms of value for money and privacy. We were looking for complete privacy and tranquillity and that is exactly what we found, we will definitely visit again.
Very nice place and very quiet and private!
Had a great time, will definitely go again.
If you are looking for the perfect couples retreat then this is the place to go! Quiet, secluded and tranquil, the staff go beyond what is expected and exceed your expectations! The attention to the little things makes it much more pleasant! The owner goes out of his way to make sure his guests are comfortable! We will definitely be back again! An experience unlike any other you will ever experience!
Our stay at Mamagalie Lodge was amazing. We had a very wonderful time. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a place where you can truly relax and unwind over a weekend.
We found the lodge to be just to our needs for the time which we spent there. Really a relaxing atmosphere.
Fantastic accommodation, we would love to go back to try the other units.
We can recommend Mamagalie Logde to anyone looking for peace and silence.
The silence and privacy is unprecedented! Here rests your whole human being! Forest Lodge is stylish with everything needed. Friendly service.
Wonderful romantic getaway. Highly recommended.
My wife and adult son stayed in the Bush Lodge of Mamagalie. This is a more rustic setup - a tent on a platform under a solid roof structure but inside. We had all the best of both worlds! Lovely beds and a fireplace - yes in the tent! And we used it because of the cold weather we had the second day. The kitchen had everything and more to prepare your food. Clean and nice bathroom! All stocked with antic furniture from the old farmhouse! We did the hike to the pools and saw lots of wild animals! Will visit again if possible!
The management was very strict about conservation and the safety of the animals and visitors at Mamagalie. Just beautiful scenery all around. Giles and Melani are enthusiatic 'people of nature' who love to share the farm with those who are interested, but who consider the animals and nature their first priority. The accommodation is fantastic and well equipped. Houses are far from each other and well equipped. We are so lucky to have celebrated our anniversary there.
Nice getaway in a quiet area.
The unit was very clean which we appreciated. Unfortunately there is no hanging space for your clothes. A small table for the tiny balcony would be an asset as we had to put our cups on the floor. We enjoyed the stay and Melanie and Giles were very helpful and friendly. Excellent place to get away from everything and rest. Highly recommended.
Mamagalie Lodge's tranquility and privacy in the forest is a must for any nature lover. The units are clean and tidy and fully meet one's needs. The owners are friendly and professional in all respects. If you are from the city and urgently need to recharge your batteries then Mamagalie is the place for you.
We stayed in River Lodge which was very well equipped, good quality linen, and the bathrooms are well finished. In my opinion even though it is self-catering the braai and the bin should be cleaned every day by the lodge. But we were impressed by the hiking trails and so lots of small game.
It was such a privilege to spend family time in the Lord's lovely nature. A peaceful getaway from the hectic city.
Very relaxing, thanks! If the wood had been for free, I would've been better value for money. It was probably a bit too expensive for the amount of people we were.
Mamagalie's Serenity Lodge is the nicest place to stay at. The house is perfect for two guests and the double bath and splash pool outside are great for relaxing. Stunning birdlife and the walking trail is interesting. Unfortunately we didn't see any game, except for the blesbuck, but it was still very nice. The kitchen is well equipped for a long weekend and everything is nice and clean. We will definitely go back in the summer.
Rest for my soul.
Just the place to recharge your batteries. Wonderful, private and very safe. Beautiful view from Mountain Lodge. Thank you Giles for a pleasant stay. Definitely recommend it. Will stay there again.
See the ratings.
Aboslutely divine! Back to nature but in luxury! The staff was very helpful and friendly. I recommend this toe anyone who needs some R&R.
Very nice place! They will see us again soon. The area is quiet and there is no one around. All we could hear were the birds in the morning and afternoons and the monkeys that come by in the evenings and they stay in the trees at the house. Everything is there that one needs. We swam and used the bath and the shower. Wow! Everything is great. Just one suggestion: maybe a small table in the living room area or even one to put on when you're out and want to sit comfortably at something.
The Lodge was clean, well equiped and beautifully furnished. The view from the Lodge is stunning. Very safe and peaceful and we loved hearing the jackals calling each other at night.
My husband and I wanted a relaxing weekend to unwind before getting back to the Joburg grind. That's exactly what we experienced at Mamagalie Lodge. Melanie and Giles were friendly and accommodating from the beginning and Tranquility Lodge was simply wonderful. We loved being able to sit in our "tree house" and enjoy a glass of wine while watching the birds and monkeys. We will definitely be booking again.
Was a lovely, peaceful and beautiful house. We stayed in Serenity Lodge and it was beautifully appointed and beautifully clean and modern. Would go there again anytime to get a break from the city. Thank you very much for good, friendly service Giles!
We needed a break in the middle of the week for emotional relaxation. That is exactly what we experienced here. The lovely fire in the evening and the moon that is visible through the roof provided all the peace we needed. Technology was last on our list, and there was signal, but you don't need that when you're surrounded by the silence of the bush. Thanks for a lovely, relaxing getaway. We will do it again when we need some physical rest.
It was a great little getaway with only the sounds of nature to surround you, beautiful little lodge, but the hike to the rock pools was a little misleading!
Friendly welcome. Would like to know if one discusses that there is only solar power and a gas geyser. It's not on the website. Had to shower without hot water the first night. Had no lights. Was sorted out next day. The location of the lodge is very beautiful.
We really enjoyed it. It is very pretty.
Very calm and quiet. Nice environment.
The Lodge was more than we expected and enjoyed it very much. Thanks to Melanie and Giles for the superb service and opening their property to the public to enjoy.
Best value for money I have ever seen. The lodge was extremely neat and offers even more privacy than at home. Mamagalie will definitely see me, and some of my acquaintances, again. Go try it, you won't regret it.
Very peaceful and the ideal destination to get away from it all.
The silence and the privacy is something to experience. Being in nature like this with no one around you is very nice. We would love to go again to be in another part of the farm.
The silence and nature is the best break from the city's noise ever and not to mention the walk to the rock pool - the best view. The arrival was very pleasant and the owner very accommodating. From the moment we arrived there was only silence and tranquility around one and it is so good for one's soul. Everything you need is there and if you forgot something the Spar is not far away, but it's so nice you can do without it. My husband and I will go back again as soon as possible it's lovely there to find you yourself again.
To us it was like visiting 'Heaven on Earth' the peace and serenity of the place just WANTS you to keep going back ... Thank you Giles and Michelle ... our visit was terrific! Looking forward to coming back.
The place is ideal if you want to spend time alone away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We really enjoyed it at Mamagalie lodge. The view from the master bedroom and also from the large porch is "stunning" and just what we wanted!
Very nice place "in the middle of no where"! Comfortable and cozy. Do not try to drive there with a sedan as the roads are not good at all.
It was incredibly peaceful and just what I was looking for.
We really enjoyed it, and would recommend it to anyone.
What an incredible experience. The view, the nature, the trees, privacy and silence are an absolute winning combination for anyone who wants a romantic getaway, but who also wants to escape for a moment from the hustle and bustle of life. I will definitely visit Mamagalie Lodge again. I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone.
Was very nice to be in the open air. Mamagalie is the ideal place to go to break away from the city, very peaceful and safe.
The Bush Lodge is an excellent romantic getaway for a couple and very peaceful in nature. There is only solar power and gas and therefore no TV and all the other unnecessary things, but still everything one needs. We had a great stay and will definitely go again, soon.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The kitchen is very well equipped and has everything one needs. The rooms are very comfortable. The fireplace in the living room is lovely. The deck is beautiful and comfortable and we were excited about the dart board. All that's needed is a Weber! The pool was lovely and we had a nice breakfast and lunch under the tree at the wooden bench. The environment is exceptional! A beautiful view of the Buffelspoort Dam and Magaliesberge. We had a wonderful walk in the area and had a great time. We could easily have stayed a week and would definitely recommend and definitely return.
See the stars below.
Private, clean and well equipped.
We will definitely go back there again, and the hospitality we received from Giles and Mel made us feel right at home.
We thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very relaxing and incredibly private. Would recommend to any couples in love and married couples.
The lodge is perfect for a Romantic getaway, secluded and private. It's a shame the sand road leading to the lodge is quite rough for a normal car.
The owner is very welcoming and friendly. A peaceful secluded place where you will see stars at night whilst sleeping. Everything is orderly and very clean.
Mamagalie is a beautiful farm and the Forest Lodge was well equipped and beautiful. The road over Hartebeespoort Dam is not very beautiful, and even the road to the lodge only requires a large bakkie. Nature is all around you, the small game quite tame, and the water is wonderful!
A pleasant surprise awaits everyone who visits Mamagalie Lodge, because I don't think many people know about the gem on our doorstep. If you like nature and silence, this is your place to go. My wife and I had the privilege of enjoying our 33rd wedding anniversary here. Thanks again!
Breathtaking and peaceful.
The place is almost indescribable, especially if you want to get away as a couple and just "be". We would love to return - it's just that LekkeSlaap has so many places to choose from!
We really enjoyed it, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes the woods. It is safe, neat and clean, and my husband and I had a wonderful time. It was just too short.
I would recommend this place without reservation. It is fantastic value for money managed by friendly and interesting people. The views are breathtaking. We were visited by buck and monkeys and plenty of bird life.
It was a very different experience. There was no TV, and cell phone reception was minimal. The accommodation was clean and interesting, especially the bathroom with shower's large window without a curtain. It was very spacious. The curious blue monkeys peek at you and provide entertainment. The host was very helpful and better than expected.
An unforgettable experience!
We enjoyed our stay at Mamagalie, as the world was very far from us and we enjoyed seeing nature at its best.
Forest lodge was private and secluded. The sounds of the birds were soothing to the soul. The rock pools were great for cooling off. Would recommend to anyone that they book with this great family holiday lodge!
Excellent lodge with the personal hospitality touch missing from so many other places.
Fantastic.
It was nice and quiet.
Considering it was a last minute booking with no real research done, a big thanks to TravelGround for the recommendation, and to Mamagalie for a pleasant weekend. We found the cabin ready for our use and in all honesty there were things we brought with which they actually provided. Giles was a terrific and accommodating host. We will definitely recommend to friends and family!
Very clean, nice location, very safe.
