The unit has amazing waterfront views from 3 of the 4 bedrooms on the 1st floor. There is an entertainment area that consists of an open-plan kitchen, lounge and dining room with an indoor braai. For those who want to braai outside, there is a braai on the stoep. The folding doors that are facing the canal, open completely and it creates the feeling of being outdoors whilst actually still sitting in the entertainment area. There is a laundry, with a gas stove, dishwasher, tumble dryer, ironing facilities, and outside washing line. The house is equipped with solar and guests won't be affected by loadshedding.
The West Coast is well-known for its excellent boating, skiing, canoeing and paddling opportunities. Port Owen is one of the most visited birding sites in the world. The town consists of a few good restaurants, and other small towns in the area that can be visited are Paternoster, St Helena Bay, and Tieties Bay.
The West Coast is also well-known for its variety of water sports like snorkelling, diving, boating, skiing, canoeing, kayaking, yachting, wind and kite surfing and deep sea fishing. Port Owen and Admiral Island is famous among yachtsmen all over the world. There are few places where you can step from your house onto a yacht and within minutes you could be sailing on the crystal blue Atlantic Ocean, or instead go inward bound. The bay into which the Berg River runs, is well known as to be one of the calmest and safest areas on the stormy Atlantic Coast on the southern part of Africa. This river then gives entrance to the canal with the house sitting on the banks of the canal. The jetty gives access from the house directly onto the water, where a boat can be safely moored, is another attraction for boat lovers.
This lower area of the Berg River has become known as the “hotspot” for rare waders. There are few if any other areas in the entire country where so many rare water birds can be seen. Recent rarities include the Little Blue Heron, Hudsonian Godwit, Black Harrier and Lesser Yellowlegs.

48 guests' feedbackWe really enjoyed our stay at Mandoryn. It is a spacious, beautiful home; we felt invited in and comfortable from the start. It really is a great getaway with the family. My child loved waving at the boats that were going up and down. It's a beautiful location, and it was clean and had everything you needed. I would not complain about anything.
When we arrived we were really well received and everything was explained to us. Nothing was missing and I must honestly say that everything was clean and tidy. We can't fault the stairs that some people complain about and yes, the furniture is old and still looks great. Really a good idea to use antiques for such a purpose. We regularly break away to Port Owen and have already rented a few places, but I will come back to Mandoryn 9 again.
Stay was excellent. Area very quiet and has everything you need for a nice getaway. Many thanks to Estelle. She is lovely.
Mandoryn Nege is a spacious house with an open-plan living and kitchen area on the lower floor. The separate utility room has a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. The house has solar power and a gas stove, so we didn't know about any power outages. On the upper floor are four bedrooms, three of which open onto the balcony. You literally only have to bring your own food and clothes. The river view is fantastic. We had a very nice stay. I would have liked a coffee station upstairs and patio furniture on the balcony. There is also a canoe for the more active people, just bring paddles.
Very good location. Everything is there that is needed. House and floors were very clean upon arrival. (Not always the case with other houses.) Very nice stay. The "jetty" definitely needs work.
Great location, comfortable and spacious accommodations. The place could use some basic maintenance (see comments regarding pictures). Still rated as good value for money though and would rebook. The addition of WiFi would be good.
The house was not properly cleaned, with mat rugs found on the kitchen sink being disgusting. The kettle was not working, so we had to use a pot to boil water, and the toaster wasn't working either; it also had rust. We also experienced issues with the electricity.
My fiance and I go away a lot and I have to say this was one of the best places we have ever been. The house has everything you can think of and more. Not to mention the wide open spaces. A massive, fantastic kitchen, spacious and comfortable. Up to the dining room and then of course the best braai area with the most beautiful bar. The "view" is breathtaking from all sides. From top to bottom. You won't believe it until you experience it. Usually we go out to places a lot when we go away, but in this case it was more fun to hang out at home. The master bedroom has the most beautiful, largest bathroom. It is to die for. I can truly say to the owners - well done! We are definitely going to go a lot. Besides being the most beautiful place ever, it's incredibly affordable. We are now also going to stay there with our wedding in February, because I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. Thank you very much for sharing your beautiful place with the people. If I could live in Velddrif it would be my dream home. Als is perfect!
Very nice lady who received us.
View on canal beautiful. The stairs to rooms and bathrooms are quite something to keep in mind if elderly people might want to stay there.
The owner will need to take note of previous reviews. The raft in front of the house is extremely dangerous and broken. Screws lying in kitchen cupboards. Someone must be putting cabinet doors on. Some of the inners and pillowcases are stained. The stairs will have to have safety strips on them. The TV doesn't always work. But I believe Eskom may be to blame. For the reasons that the price is quite high you expect that everything will be in place. The caretaker Estelle was wonderful and very kind lady. Went to buy power from her own pocket and put it on. But I would still recommend the house.
On the whole a nice house but needs maintenance. Good location.
The stairs are very inconvenient. It's steeper and narrower than normal stairs. It should be mentioned more prominently and warn people that the house is not at all suitable for persons with disabilities. We had to make a bed under the couch for a person. With no shower facilities downstairs, it was really inconvenient. The shower in the master bedroom's doors are the wrong way around and don't open properly, wardrobes don't have doors, the sliding doors are neglected and can barely open. The jetty is falling apart and construction debris is lying around. House inside not very clean either. No WiFi and also only certain DStv channels. Very disappointing for the price. At least the view made up for the other disappointments.
Very unsafe. Kitchen unhygienic. Mostly eaten out. Of bedrooms not floors in. Terribly cold. Grills horrible.
The house has everything you would need. Service was so friendly from the start to the end. This house is on the river bed of the Berg River. Calm and peaceful. The break we all need from the hussle and bussle of city life.
This house is so comfortable and who wouldn't enjoy views of the water from every room! We have stayed here before and love it!
We had such a wonderful time and would definitely stay here again. Many thanks to Estelle! Location is breathtaking.
The house was immaculately clean and had everything we needed. As you saw in the photos, it was like that. Couldn't have asked for a better view. From day one when I booked the owner was in contact with me until the day I checked out. You will see us again. All the best for the year.
Absolute experience! Will definitely go back again!
We will definitely go again. Everything you need is in the house. Just bring your clothes.
Stairs to sleeping area above extremely dangerous, very steep and bottom step easy to miss. Markers to indicate end of stairs will help a lot. Garage parking will be a great asset. Very difficult to park.
There were no gates on the property. There were steep steps leading upstairs and to the split level so it is definitely not suitable for anyone for whom this is a problem. Blocked basin drains in the upstairs bathroom.
Lounge furniture is uncomfortable and don't expect DStv, it is a basic package and cleverly stated as satellite TV. The stairs to the bedrooms are probably illegal - very steep. No railing around deck at canal. The jetty is an accident about to happen.
Location is fantastic, it was lovely to be by the water! A bit unfortunate in terms of cleanliness, the crockery was on the dirty side when you take it out to use. Other than that, we had a great stay!
I would definitely go back there and recommend it to people.
Only criticism was the uncertainty about how and where we can get the key for the house, but that's a small thing. Furthermore, we had a great time with everything you need in the house and a fantastic Spar just around the corner. Lack of WiFi nowadays may be a problem for other households.
TV was not working and we had to spend 2 hours with the supervisor to get it working. The utensils were not clean. The indoor braai is unusable due to smoke blowing back into the house. Toilet and sink in main bathroom not working. Curtains are out of their hooks and look extremely untidy. The kitchen cupboards are dirty and unhygienic, as is the rubbish bin in the kitchen. This was especially unacceptable under the current circumstances with the Covid virus. No closets have doors on them. We can't believe the website recommended the place to us. We also had to call around to get hold of the key upon our arrival there. We would like to receive a discount on the accommodation.
Too big for two people, price not worth the money. Needs a bit more modern furniture.
Thank you to Annemien for allowing us the use of Mandoryn Nege. We had an amazing stay. The house was neat and tidy, and fully equipped, a home away from home. The highlight of my stay were the ducks, who visited us like clockwork from sunrise to sunset. Will recommend it to friends and family. Thank you once again Annemien and Rix.
Beautiful house, lovely location right on the water and central to everywhere. If you were expecting a table tennis table, portable braai for outside or satellite TV channels (only had SABC options) as advertised, you would be disappointed as these were not part of the package. We had a wonderful time and Chantal, who opened and closed for us, was so friendly and helpful.
We were looking for a wonderful, quiet weekend and that's exactly what we got. The views and area were just so quiet and safe. Our little one enjoyed the outing and their hospitality was just amazing. Not far from shops which was good.
Mandoryn Nege is advertised with 2 garages. No garage was available. The house only has cement floors with animal skins on the upper floor. The hanging cabinets have no doors on them. The furniture is very old and no longer sturdy. The table tennis table collapsed. There is a great scarcity of water, but all the taps leak. The kitchen is not well equipped. Have to go and purchase several items yourself. The plates of the stove were painted over with silver paint and were still wet when we arrived. The fridge is way too small. The jetty in front of the house is lumbar and the staircase is completely loose. The DStv only worked for a few days. If the house is better equipped, it can be a lovely accommodation option.
House is cold due to the fact that all 4 bedrooms still have raw cement and are untiled. The cutlery is good, but the pots and pans are long past their lifespan. The TV had apparently been stolen for some time, but had not been replaced. The braai place is inside the TV room and when the wind blows the whole place is full of smoke.
Mandoryn Nege is a fantastic getaway for a weekend. I first experienced the place in March 2017 at my cousin's 50th birthday. The place is neat and very well furnished. I can also add that the place stole my heart so much that we were there again at the end of July. I would definitely recommend the place to anyone. Well worth paying the price for a weekend.
It looks like the house isn't completely finished inside, for e.g. there's no carpets on the floor and there's a shortage of cabinet doors in the bathrooms and kitchen.
I had a very nice stay and would love to go to Mandoryn Nege again.
No call from owner for directions or key details, and the dishes all had to be washed before using them.
Mandoryn Nege is a beautiful place for a getaway. The house is beautiful and very neat. The service of the agents at LekkeSlaap is fast and thorough. Will definitely recommend it.
Warmly received by Salomie - felt at home immediately. Mandoryn Nege has a perfect locatin with a breathtaking view! Nice, spacious house, well appointed for dinner parties, big rooms. Equipped with everything you need, maybe one suggestion - a freezer. Bathrooms and bedrooms are neat and there were enough warm blankets for the cool evenings. We will definitely call again and take Gran along, even if we have to help her at the stairs. Thanks again for your great hospitality.
Had a good stay in Mandoryn Nege! Will definitely go again!
We were very kindly received by Antoinette who immediately made us feel at home. We enjoyed the weekend incredibly much and everything we needed was available. Definitely the perfect weekend or holiday destination. The house, rooms and living room are very neat and the canal right in front of the house contributes a lot to the peaceful atmosphere. We will definitely go again and take friends this time, because such a nice place should be shared with others!
Big, wonderful house with a beautiful view. Would love to go with friends. In the town itself there isn't much to do (we're both young), but drove out to other towns along the coast and enjoyed it very much!
The house was neat and fully-equipped, actually with more than we expected from a self-catering unit. Unfortunately we didn't have access to the double garage, but the area is quite safe.
House needs attention with regards to taps, toilets etc.
The main bathroom was great. The bedrooms were only cement floors. The wardrobes did not have doors and the furniture in the bedroom and lounge were very old. The bedding was clean. The photos on the website are very misleading.
My wife and I are already older and going up and down the stairs will be too much for us in the foreseeable future.
