101 guests' feedbackIt was amazing. Everyone was so friendly and helpful.
We really enjoyed our weekend break.
Really enjoyed the stay. Staff are super friendly and made our time spent there very special.
Mangwa Valley Game Lodge & Spa was absolutely amazing! We loved every minute and can't wait to go back again. Our accommodation was fantastic, the staff were so welcoming and wonderful, and the grounds are simply stunning. Beautifully kept and lots of wildlife wandering around. The restaurant is fantastic; every meal was absolutely delicious. I must definitely recommend the quad bike safari. Our guide was so knowledgeable, and we got super up close and personal to the amazing animals, including 2 of the Big 5. There is not a single thing I can fault about Mangwa, absolutely fantastic.
The staff, cuisine and facilities were top notch. Will definitely recommend to anyone.
A wonderful experience, very relaxing, amazing food and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Fabulous stay all thanks to the staff.
Mangwa is a quiet and re-energising break from the hustle and bustle of the city. One can enjoy the feel and sounds of nature. We were spoilt with the breakfast and dinner service and made to feel special by the polite and attentive staff. If you can, get there by 4x4 because the gravel roads can be rough.
We stayed in the executive lodge and were 7 adults and one teenager. Beautiful rooms and a large porch for hanging out. The house itself and kitchen are too small for 8 people. If you don't plan on barbecuing and hanging out all the time, the house will be too small. There are only 2 sofas in the living room that can seat a maximum of 6 people. The other permanent tents are quite close. We were lucky that everyone came for the wildlife, otherwise you would be in each other's space. We hung out outside on the stoep and around the boma and were surprised by the amount of wildlife that came to drink water at the pond. We had a great time.
It was beautiful and quiet. Not enough activities that one can do within the lodge. It's perfect for partners.
Firstly, we would like to thank the team at Mangwa Valley Game Lodge & Spa for their hospitality. We had a really peaceful and lovely stay. They are all so helpful in what they do! Patrick gave us a lovely morning bush drive and kept us informed on all the animal happenings, which we enjoyed very much. Thank you to Proxy and the team for arranging a little surprise for my partner and me as we were celebrating our anniversary. They did a wonderful job . We stayed in the luxury tent 4, and it was in the perfect spot, with the loveliest of views. There are a few small things I'd like to mention but are not deal breakers and are fixable. To possibly have a small bar fridge/cooler in the tents, just to keep bottles of water cool, etc. Hooks in the bathroom area to hang towels after showering or washing hands, etc . Then lastly, the pools were a bit cloudy looking but an absolute must on a hot day with one of their yummy cocktails. Our stay was short, so I wasn't able to squeeze in a spa session, so I can't comment on that portion. Other than that, the food, drinks, and animals were fantastic. Thank you, Mangwa Valley Game Lodge & Spa.
Enjoyable for a short stay.
My stay was very nice. The staff were very friendly. The food was excellent. Just had a problem to enter at the main gate.
The staff are so friendly and accommodating, helpful and professional. The units are big enough (we stayed in the 6 sleeper chalet). The pool at the lodge could be cleaner and the menu options for lunch could be improved. Other than that, we had a relaxing stay and good game drive!
Very enjoyable and relaxing, we saw rhino 10 meters from our residence.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Food was very nice breakfast and dinner. Safari ride top notch, lots of animals seen. The resort is just a bit dark. A few lights will help.
Good, but self-drive only in Dinokeng Reserve, not in Mangwa.
The unit was very well appointed. The facilities, gardens, restaurant are very neat and maintained. The service in the restaurant was very good and the meals were excellent. However, we were extremely disappointed with the sunset safari drive. The road to Mangwa Valley game lodge is not inaccessible with a normal sedan vehicle, but it is a corrugated iron road that I would not like to drive again.
Too expensive for what you get. The food was so-so.
We had a good stay but the place is quite disappointing in many respects. Not great value for money. The food was subpar for a 4-star hotel, and the place could do with more activities and things to do.
We had teenagers with us and at the place itself there was not much to do. You cannot go on driving trips yourself, so you have to incur further expenses to go driving in Dinokeng. There were also neighbors who made a lot of noise. Security had to come and silence them after we had to contact them.
The room was a huge disappointment. It was not at all as luxurious as advertised. The duvet on the bed was too small for the size of the bed. There was no real wiggle room. There was no WiFi in the room. The food was always cold and the same. We went for the peace and quiet, but the grass was cut during the day.
The waiters were fantastic - very professional and friendly. There was no hot water in the luxury tent and the place seemed run down. The bar fridges were stained.
I have stayed at Mangwa Valley Game Lodge & Spa a few times, so I decided it would be a nice, relaxed place to spend a few days over New Year. The food was a bit less varied than on previous trips, but still good. My wife, my son, and I stayed in a room with no mini fridge provided, which was an oversight on my end, but be warned. The room itself is adequate, although not spacious, but you aren't there for the room so it's okay. The major downside was the management. There was a very disruptive group staying in one of the chalets, surrounded by 2 other chalets and 5 rooms. They blasted their music until the early hours on New Year's, which was to be expected I guess. The main issue was the next day, from 7 in the morning when they woke up, until 16:30 when I told management to refund my last night and got out of there, they blasted their music. It was so loud you could hear it at reception. This means the entire camp, the rooms, the chalets, the communal pool, the bar, and all the way to reception you could hear it. It wasn't soft. The room next to me demanded to be moved, the chalets next to them left, I complained 4 times throughout the day and nothing was done. They were told to turn it down, and when they didn't, they were just told to move to the communal area to play the music?! Management wanted me to move to the other side of the lodge, into a tent, as the only option? I'm not sure why banning the music wasn't an option, but there you go. I refused, and that was it. Either I move my family away from the noise (impossible in the communal area), or accept it? If you want to have the entire lodge to yourself, just be as loud and disrespectful as possible to everyone around you, and management will reward you by moving everyone else away. Pro tips.
Overpriced for what we received, room 9 was an absolute disgrace.
It was okay until other guests complained about us.
Friendly staff and very tidy. Places are well maintained. Just a pity the small fridge was too small for six people's perishable food items.
The customer service was great. They helped us so nicely with everything, even if we were late. The food was brought to our room, nothing was ever too much trouble for them. Will definitely book with them again next time.
Staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, and always available. The food was incredibly delicious, and the lodge was beautiful. I will definitely go back. Special thank you to Yvonne at reception.
Was just what I needed! The people were friendly and kind, the food was incredibly tasty, everything was clean and tidy, and the extras (spa and game drive) were great. The tranquility and natural beauty is indescribable. I will definitely be back.
Lovely venue, child friendly, didn't use the restaurant or spa, so can't comment on those. The self-catering units have all the necessary equipment.
We were welcomed by Yvonne and Proxy, both always available when needed to answer questions, Gamedrive with Thomas was outstanding, and information was given we never knew! Saw the rhino family, giraffes, golden wildebeest, and all others. We enjoyed the animals visiting our chalet the most. Large clean rooms and bathrooms, chalet worth our money.
Everything was great. The food at the restaurant was delicious and the whole weekend was fantastic. It was so quiet and peaceful and very private. We really enjoyed the Jacuzzi. The only problem we experienced is the shower did not work well. We had to run the water for a very long time before it got hot which wasted a lot of water and the shower was hot one minute then cold the next. We couldn't get the water to a nice temperature to shower. Other than that it was a perfect weekend and will definitely come back again.
Very nice and enjoyed a lot.
It was a great weekend with my family, and Proxy and his team are very friendly and helpful. Will definitely visit again.
Quiet and very neat. The pool was the best.
What a peaceful stay at Mangwa Valley Game Lodge & Spa. To anyone interested in exotic and less seen wildlife, this place is for you. From golden wildebeest, cappuccino springbok to sable. Honestly saw more wildlife at Mangwa Valley Game Lodge & Spa than in the nature reserve. The staff are really friendly, the manager in particular made us feel extremely welcome and cared for. Oh, and the food. May they never fire the chef!
Proxy and Yvonne made us feel welcome from the start, looked well after us, staff restaurant was friendly and helpful, breakfast and supper were delicious, and spacious rooms, and animals around chalets entertained us! Thomas with his heart for the rhino and other wild made our game drive the best ever! Will go again.
Brilliant accommodation in the Bush, friendly staff. Chalet's could do with an adequate number of chairs for the number of guests. Some of the finishes are a bit worn and could do with replacement - floor (new coat of paint) and taps and the braai are seriously in need of being replaced.
Note - no self-driving in the lodge but self-drive is available 1 km away.
Little bit expensive but was a nice experience.
The pool was a treat with the hot weather. Delicious meals.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Proxy and Paul were stellar with all the arrangements.
We enjoyed the resort and the unit, also the bucks roaming around. The game driving was good.
The people staying in the Chalet next to our tent were persistently loud, and nothing was done about this. The toilet in the tent was clogged. Our activities were arranged through another Lodge -- not clearly advertised in the Mangwa publications.
If it wasn't for staff, it would have been much worse. There is not much wildlife to see and you are not provided with fresh towels every morning.
Breakfast and dinner were late every night. Was busy cleaning while people walked in for lunch. Never milk at coffee station, and never refilled water in the room.
We paid almost R4000 per night for the 8 sleeper chalet. Kitchen facilities/equipment missing. Beds, linen, curtains, living room sofas are very old and neglected. The shower/tub was impossible to use. You burn yourself or freeze. People in other chalets played loud music until 3am on the Friday night, after I called the manager 3 times and complained about it. It is clear in the rules that no loud music is allowed and that security will ask you to leave the premises if you do not follow the rules. It did not happen and the party resumed on Saturday night.
Food drive away/missing. Cleanliness not very good.
The staff are amazing!
The customer service we received from the staff at Mangwa Valley Game Lodge & Spa was excellent. Every expectation was exceeded. Proxy, the ontang staff member is friendly and very helpful. Their food is also very tasty - 10/10. Thank you very much Mangwa Valley Game Lodge & Spa.
The only problem we had was with the hot water turning ice cold very quickly. We were given a new gas bottle which improved it quite a bit. We felt steps leading down to the pit and braai area would greatly improve accessibility to that area, instead of having to walk around to the steps to the side of the stoep.
Staff were so friendly, welcomed us with open arms and did everything they could to make our stay wonderful.
The team was friendly and very helpful. The unit was spacious and well equipped. The food was delicious and the surroundings picturesque.
Would like them to keep the generator running through load shedding due to the mosquitoes throughout the evening.
Thank you for superb service and attention to detail. We were so well looked after we stayed in Tent 4. Please consider changing the bed to a newer, firmer bed. The team of Proxy, Benjamin, Paul etc were an absolute asset/they made our stay. It was new year - so we do understand the noisy neighbours. We will definitely return.
The only concern was the hot water. There was not enough hot water for 2 people to enjoy a decent shower, a bath was definitely out of the question. On our last day, we were getting up to shower, etc only to find electric shocks from the taps, including the shower floor. We tested the taps for the bath and got the same electric shock - this is something that should not be happening at all. We were not notified of it, just told it seems to be a problem for other people too? Other than the lack of hot water and electric shocks it's a lovely venue.
The only issue is the location description when they say "in the heart of Dinokeng Game reserve" you expect it to be "inside" the reserve and it is not.
We had a great stay at Mangwa Valley and would love to return.
We ate very well and rested, The staff is very friendly and helpful. Drinking water in the accommodation unit would have been nice.
Very relaxing stay in the bushveld. Highly recommended.
Mangwa could perhaps improve by putting small fridges in the lodge rooms and putting in aircons.
If they state no loud music is to be played, then they must abide by those rules.
This is really a nice lodge, but there is a desperate need for maintenance and touch-up work to be done. Self-catering houses can really use some upgrade in kitchen. New microwave, bigger fridge/freezer (it is way too small for 6 people). Definitely oven and stove, more cutlery and crockery. The outside braai is a mess - you can not braai in that drum as the coals are too low to actually get the meat done. Very very disappointing that the spa was under renovations - they need to tell people that before you book. That is a big reason why we booked here. Would really love to go back this year - but maintenance first.
I’ve stayed for 3 nights at another lodge in Dinokeng for half the price I paid at Mangwa. There everything was perfect and clean! At Mangwa om the other hand not so much! When we arrived I specifically asked what the restaurant times are. We arrived for lunch only to be advised that more of half your menu is not available. The when wanting to order early dinner I was advised that there is only a chef available from 7pm. Not what was communicated to me. When wanting to go to bed all the beds were filthy with silverfish! Not 1 not 2! A lot! This is disgusting! I have no where else to go now or I would have! Please expect me tomorrow. It is disappointing to pay a lot of money and get this in return. Oh and I forgot to add we got a fly wrapped up in cling wrap in our desert. They will not see me in the future and recommend you seek alternative accommodation.
The staff is so friendly and helpful, they made the stay great. The room was neat and tidy with a great view. The food was fantastic so I really can't complain about anything the lodge has to offer. We even went on a mountain bike game view which was fantastic. The one major problem we had is that a group of 6 ladies checked in and played loud music, singing and shouting until I had to call management at 2 in the moring, later at at around 10 am they were back at it again. I checked out a day earlier as the lodge didn't deal with the issue and I could see we will get no rest for the rest of the day and the evening. That was very dissapointing.
Friendly staff, lots to do and great stay!
The chalet was very neat and clean. There is a very relaxing atmosphere. Very good customer service.
Awesome experience!
We stayed in Chalet 6, everything was neat and exceeded our expectations.
On Saturday, 8 women arrived with a boom box and were drinking and shouting and making noise with loud music. They ignored two requests from management not to make noise. They were right to celebrate Women's Day like that. Another couple apologized to us on behalf of the group of drunken women. The couple moved to the restaurant to avoid the noise. Find out in advance if there are groups that will disturb your rest.
Beautiful lodge with exceptionally friendly service. Will come again for sure.
Coming for the second time with a different group proved to be just as excellent as the first time. Lovely place all and all.
We were specifically looking for a place that included breakfast and dinner. It was top notch, we ate so well. All the staff are very friendly, their smiles are so contagious. They went out of their way when I asked if they would do anything special because it was our second wedding anniversary. That evening they set a table especially for us, when we got into the room they made it so beautiful and the next morning they set a table especially for us again. There is so much different wildlife at the lodge, it was definitely a bonus to see so many animals because we love nature so much. We enjoyed every moment at Mangwa Valley Game Lodge. Thank you Proxy, Kenny, Chad and the rest of the team for your hospitality.
Was very disappointed, on their website they claim the big 5. On arrival at gate you are warned you are entering big 5 "territory". We book a game drive with the Big 5 in mind, only to be shared on the vehicle there are only 2 of the big 5.
I thought the lodge was in the Big 5 area. I wasn't aware that you could do self-drive game drives.
Quiet environment. Offer enough activities. The service is excellent. Food was very well prepared and fresh. Game drive was good and gamekeeper knows his area. Tent has no drawers. Bed needs new mattress.
Our grandchildren and we enjoyed the weekend.
Vriendelik en veilig.
The pictures on the web page are misleading - the chalets are not near the waterhole, there is no oven in the chalets. The chalets are not very well equipped - certainly not to the standard of 4 stars! And the cleaner did a lot of half-cleaning - not once cleaning the bathrooms, and we had to ask her to please sweep the bedroom floors and make the beds. She just fixed something here and there. The quad bikes did not do any safety briefing - occupational health and safety was totally left behind. There is no big 5 - just 2. There is no game drive that lets you see the Big 5. For the money I paid it was actually a very disappointing experience. Guests were allowed to make noise until 01:00 in the morning. Really not pleasant. But the staff were absolutely excellent - especially Proxy on reception and Mr Thomas who handled our game drive. Excellent people!
On arrival, there was a group of people in the house next to us busy hanging out and playing music. We have requested the management on several occasions to ask the guests to turn down the music. We went to "the forest" for peace and quiet and to enjoy nature. The music and socializing continued until after 11:00 p.m. The terms and conditions of the stay clearly state that loud music etc. is not permissible. The management did not want or did not solve the problem.
The spa facility was converted into a self-catering unit and replaced with a "treatment room". This without any communication. Link on website to photos of spa has since been removed. Not even music in "spa". False expectations were created with advertising. Basics not in place, no towels, no bottled water, which is the norm for a 4 star place. Very nice food but don't settle for unfulfilled expectations. The game drive is a waste of money. Mangwa has its own border wire and there is no Big Five. Caught again with clever marketing and pictures of good old days.
The patio door never locked, the one window pane was badly cracked. There were stains on the sheets and the towels were all frayed. It was not serviced, they only washed the dishes and mopped the floor at around 2pm if you were lucky. There were only 2 quads working and one broke down while out in the reserve. No refund given. The table tennis table was broken and bats were completely wrecked. The restaurant menu only had sandwiches available. There was no ice cream for milkshakes. There were no potatoes to buy fries. The curio shop is a storeroom and the spa is not operational at all. Wood is way overpriced, R50 a bag. All the pictures on the web show a boma in front of the unit, this is false, only the 8 sleeper has a boma. Never once in 6 days saw any of the owners.
It was very nice at Mangwa. We were at the chalet with the Jacuzzi and outdoor kitchen. Food was delicious and the barbecue dinner just as wonderful. Quadbike ride is a must. Enjoyed a lot. Would recommend anytime.
This weekend exceeded my expectations by far, I asked for some snacks on arrival, rose pebbles after dinner and chocolate in the room. Well done guys, absolutely lovely. The boma surprise dinner was wonderful. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Rooms clean, very neat with detailed interior. To the owners, a place to be proud of and staff you can count on!
Bombo is an asset to the lodge. He was our game drive and game walk guide. Thank you very much Bombo.
Friendly staff. Very neat and clean!
Perfect for 2 nights. Excellent customer service. Many activities for the whole family. Spacious accommodation.
I will however not recommend the spa. They need to have a look at the towels they are using and the massage oil. The towels had a very strong smell of old oil and it was not a smell you would expect in a spa.
Very nice place with very good service, but I am very sad about the above.
We really enjoyed our stay at Mangwa Valley lodge. What struck us was the well-trained staff and how they really care about what they do, from preparing the meals to caring for the wildlife. They also went above and beyond to share information and make us feel like very special guests. I can definitely recommend the gem.
See stars.
Friendly service, good view.
We really enjoyed our stay. I was really surprised by how much game we saw considering how close the lodge was to our home. Only +/- 120 km from JHB. I can't report any major problems. The only one was that the lighting in the main, en-suite bathroom was really bad.
Excellent accommodation; tidy. Kenny, Phindile and Thomas offer the best customer service in the country.
Thoroughly enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of the Bushveld. Lovely setting, very attentive staff. The free roaming nyalas are a treat.
