51 guests' feedbackHands down the best Pinotage of South Africa. Maybe disputable against Rijk's next door but Manley wins this battle. Beautiful estate, great spacious rooms, a very informative wine tasting with a large variety of wines produced by Manley's, a really good restaurant on site, and a cozy fireplace in every room. A delicious bottle of their Pinotage was waiting for us at the fireplace when we arrived. Also very child-friendly. A must visit and reserve space to take home many bottles.
All was great. The only thing that wasn't clear from the pictures is that there is no privacy between the two bedrooms - the loft is open to the main bedroom. We stayed in cottage 01.
Amazing location for mountain biking.
A lovely place and good value for money. Breakfast does take quite a while, so if you're on your way somewhere, you just have to take that into account.
The facilities and surroundings were beautiful. The kitchenette was not as well-equipped as we'd hoped for - remember to take containers suitable for a microwave. No oven. Else, we loved the stay and "kuiers" around the pool and on the lawns.
Very clean living facilities, excellent service and beautiful scenery.
Picturesque tranquil stay on wine estate! Just love the thatch roof, birds and frogs, surrounded by beautiful trees.
Place is very nice and had a very nice stay. They came to clean after 5 nights, would have preferred after 3 nights because difficult to keep floor and bathroom clean without brooms etc. not. For the rest, everything was very convenient. Pizza at the restaurant was great.
Reception not very friendly. Very well located, the room could have been cleaner, and short maintenance. The breakfast was very good and the restaurant staff very friendly.
Great stay and delicious.
On arrival our key was not available. I found someone on the premises who confirmed that I should take the key that was left because other guests had already checked into the unit that had been confirmed to me 2 times by email. I called the liaison 3 times, no answer. Stay was comfortable but expected more. For "self-catering", the kitchen is very limited. WiFi didn't work. TV channels in the information book are not up to date. Tiles in the bathroom crack and lift and cause doors to snag.
Beautiful and neat room. Food and service great.
Room 4 is spacious. Markus' warm reception was special. Delicious breakfast that was included. Enough milk in the fridge for good coffee. Piles of wood for indoor fireplace fire. WiFi excellent. Can't wait for my summer visit.
We were kindly received and the owner made our wine tasting a nice experience. Our friends from Belgium were very impressed. I would recommend any person to go there. We are thinking of going for a weekend.
The Wi-Fi didn't work well on the first night but worked well after that. The kitchen could be better organised in terms of the cooker location and drainage for dishes, but we managed. The scenery was lovely and peaceful. We would happily visit again.
Beautiful scenery.
Rooms very comfortable.
Comfortable large room, beautiful bathroom, lovely veranda where the sunset can be enjoyed. Very centrally located.
Peaceful and enjoyable.
Was a bit cool, but we made the best of the cold visiting warm lounges and tasting rooms - love it!
The stay was wonderful. Our host went out of her way to make our stay comfortable. The breakfast was wonderful! I will definitely be back! Totally worth the money spent!
Well received and the room met our expectations. Unfortunately, the porch in front of the room is for everyone's use and one has no privacy. The restaurant only opened at 09h00 on the Saturday morning for breakfast. For travelers it is too late and one therefore loses the value of the breakfast.
No space to sit and eat inside, cottage not serviced. Nice friendly staff.
We really enjoyed our stay - clean and comfortable.
We stayed one night, but the tranquility made it feel like a vacation. Professional, friendly and warm like family. We had an incredible wine tasting with the knowledgeable owner. Our expectations were exceeded. We will definitely go again.
We stayed on the Friday night when Tulbagh received some excellent rain - the whole night in fact so we were restricted from walking around and exploring the grounds.
We had a very nice and comfortable and a nice home feeling. We feel that the breakfast did the trick, but a little more variety would have been nice.
The accommodation was neat and would recommend it to friends.
There were some minor glitches. WiFi didn't work whole weekend, alarm and remote was faulty, pool wasn't cleaned. However, the view and accommodation is excellent. I contacted the owner and caretaker re above mentioned issues and they were more than willing to assist and resolve the problems. Thank you Karien, Jan, oom Dirkie and Minnie, you made our family gathering very special.
The drought greatly affects the beautiful nature of the region, however there are many other aspects that are beautiful. Driving far for a visit is still worth it.
Ons was vir 4 dagggies en dit was amazing. Die stilte en die cosiness van die huisie was great. Die water was wel 'n probleem, maar die span by Manley Wine Lodge het ons gou uitgehelp. Sal beslis weer teruggaan.
Despite the drought which has affected the Boland particularly badly and everywhere is dry, there was an air of neglect about the guest rooms and swimming pool area. It's the little things, no top sheet on the bed and feet stuck out of the duvet, no blind on the east facing window. No light to see into the walk in cupboard. The manager was not on duty when we arrived on Sunday and we didn't see him until we booked out on Tuesday. We phoned him and he told us where the room key was and said he would see us the next day for a tour of the winery - which never happened. Michael the singing chef was our saving grace with superb breakfasts.
Room smelled strongly of smoke on arrival. Was disappointed in the shower/bath facilities. Water supply from taps was extremely limited. Breakfast was included in the costs, and is served between 09:00 and 11:00 at the restaurant area. We arrived at the restaurant to sit down for breakfast at 10:20 and then we were told that the kitchen staff had already packed up and left. If you pay for a service and arrive within stated times, you expect that service will be delivered.
We went home in the house, not in the lodge. The staff was friendly. We could walk everywhere on the farm. The furniture (living room set) had been bitten to pieces by a field mouse that had made itself at home in the house and was crawling around everywhere. The house had a lot of worms in it, don't know where they came from.
Absolutely a waste of my gift card to my regret. It wasn't worth it at all.
Baie swak. Glad nie aan te beveel nie!
We were 4 people who booked two of the same rooms. One room was more than half the size of the other and cost the same?! Rooms were dirty and rotten from smoke. Carpets were dirty. Lapa and pool are a shame! The restaurant was just as poor, no stock, raw pork chops and excruciating prices. We came from Durban for a wedding and thought that for a "premium" we would get decent accommodation here, definitely not the case.
When we booked we thought there was a restaurant on site and only after paying our deposit did they let us know the restaurant was closed and they would find us somewhere else to eat. On Christmas day visitors came in and took over the whole braai area and pool, not sure if they were paying guests because they didn't spend the night there. On arrival and check-out there was no staff to receive us or check us out so we have not yet paid the balance. Did call us when we were on our way there and let us know that they had decided to drop everyone off and that they would leave the key in a box for us. They advertise B&B and 'serviced' which was not the case. The air conditioning was noisy and when we turned it off it dripped on our heads all night. The door is not very secure either. But slept with one eye open. I only regret that I didn't read the trip advisor's comments beforehand and the way the management responded would have made me decide not to spend the night there. So very sorry because I think it could be a very lovely place.
It was a great place for an overnight stay. Clean, neat and with everything you need.
Our room was beautifully furnished and very well maintained and clean. The en-suite bathroom had a bath as well as a shower with enough warm water and also very clean. The Lodge is located on a wine farm with picturesque surroundings and the tranquil atmosphere is wonderful. Inside the room is also a beautiful fireplace which will be very nice in winter. The managers are also friendly and helpful.
Bed was very comfortable, we slept very well.
Beautiful surroundings. It's neat and clean and we appreciated the extras. They have friendly staff, good service and delicious meals that we enjoyed in the restaurant. Will definitely come here again!
Excellent restaurant.
Very hot time of the year. Swimming pool out of order therefore problematic. Expected to use the restaurant but it was also not available.
Nice neat rooms.
We slept well at Manley Lodge and at least the bedding was clean, but unfortunately we had to wait a while to get our self-catering unit as it had not been cleaned at our check-in time. The kettle and fridge did not work, the plates of the stove only worked on two of them, the shower outlet was blocked, the mat in the bathroom was very dirty as well as the lounge (after the cleaners were already there!). Luckily we took our own fan. There was a small one that we had to give to our kids since they didn't have one in their room. It was 45 degrees at Tulbagh! The pool is a bit far from the self-catering units and you have to wear shoes! Bring plenty of mosquito repellent and your own towels. There was no provision for towels and the glasses are all different. Bit disappointing but they compensated us with free drinks to say sorry.
Would be able to recommend Manley if more attention was paid to certain points. The staff are all very friendly and very helpful, thank you very much! The environment is beautiful and has a lot of potential, but is a bit neglected. We really enjoyed our 2 nights at Manley Wine Lodge, despite some points. 1. First night no water in bathroom, we had to call to find out what was going on. 2. We expected better service and food/breakfast at the restaurant. The restaurant does not open until 9:00 in the morning. 3. Had to wait until almost 10am on Sunday morning for the office to open so we could check out. Thank you very much.
There was no water during power outages. When we got there late at night there were 3 HUGE spiders - one in each bedroom.
The self-catering cottage we got was not at all up to the same standard as the photos showed. The location was horrible, right next to a very busy road and the view was on the rubbish heap behind the "wine cellar". There was no service as in the three days we were there there was not a single member of staff in sight, no cleaning or reception staff! We left the key in the mailbox, and we were unable to settle the bill when we left. The discussion was not about a public holiday! Everything looked desolate and sad.
