80 guests' feedbackVery nice stay in Maple Grove. It was clean and tidy and hidden between trees. True reflection of Hogsback. Slept snugly and showered hot. The cottage is well equipped with a wooden stove that is cozy in the evening.
Love every minute. Beautiful and peaceful. Great people. Little piece of heaven.
Must be the best accommodation available in Hogsback. Very well equipped - fireplace a bonus. Amazing attention to detail such as firewood, complimentary sherry, even rusks.
Chilled weekend. Literally and figuratively. Well organised unit and property. Everything we expected and more.
Lovely cosy setting with a fireplace, which was welcome due to the weather. Will visit again!
Maple Grove is a very neat place to stay in a beautiful garden. I would highly recommend Maple Grove.
Hogsback fed my soul! The arboretum, the tallest tall trees!!! The waterfalls! Madonna and child waterfall is one of the most beautiful waterfalls I have ever seen. Our stay was lovely despite freezing cold.
Excellent hosts, Lyndsay and Peter Walker were attentive and welcoming. We are keen birders and the garden provided many sightings. Well appointed, all that one needs.
Idyllic surroundings make you feel like you are alone in the most beautiful forest! We only stayed for one night and when we got there it was raining. We stayed in and made a fire in the fireplace. We enjoyed the beautiful surroundings with some great wine and played cards till late. It rained through the night but we could explore a bit in the morning. What a magical place, will definitely have to go back to explore more of the little town and surroundings. We went during the off-season and chose to stay in, but there are limited restaurants open during the off-season. We could not find a breakfast place on our way out around 9:30 am. Would love to do this during the busy season to be part of the adventure and magic that I can only imagine happens in this beautiful place!
The visit was absolutely fantastic. Lindsay and Pete are great hosts and we will definitely be going back again.
It's so among the trees and away from people.
The village is quite neglected but the guest house was more than adequate. The environment is wonderful.
Cold wet 8 days gave us a White Christmas without snow. Was something different from the usual. Warm cozy fireplace Christmas. Quiet in nature.
The cabin was equipped with 100% everything one needs. Better than expected & the service was friendly, efficient.
Perfect getaway for the family.
Exceeded all our expectations.
Many thanks for adequate provision for load shedding.
The owners care about their guests and have gone the extra mile to ensure that you feel at home. Beautiful setting.
Will definitely be coming back again! Best value for my money. And the owners are very friendly and welcoming!
Awesome! Wonderful! Great! Beautiful! Out of this world! Just wished it was snowing! We will be back again!
The chalet was well equipped and very neat. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
WiFi, DStv with channels 144 (Kyknet) and 431 (BVN - Beste van Vlaanderen en Nederland), lovely place to hang out outside in nature.
Excellent hostess and very helpful. We really enjoyed her beautiful, neat and tidy kothusi. Her beautiful garden with the song of frogs and birds was food for the soul. It was nice and cold and wet and the visit by the fireplace was wonderful.
The Cabin is not child friendly, ideal option for a couple.
My husband and I would definitely stay at Maple Grove again. We had a lovely weekend there and it is centrally located in the beautiful Hogsback, close to all the attractions.
From the time we arrived, till the time we checked out, Nic was an amazing host. Thank you! Will definitely be back!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting again. The Walkers are friendly and helpful. The unit was well equipped. I would definitely recommend that you stay at Maple Grove if you are visiting Hogsback.
Maple Gove lies hidden in incredibly beautiful scenery. The "Cabin" is a comfortable self-catering unit with DSTV (including Afrikaans channels) which is a bonus.
Exceptionally friendly welcome and help. Value for money accommodation in a clean, fresh cottage. Everything you need is there. Very peaceful accommodation. Definitely a place we'll stay at again.
Friendly reception, great.
The hosts were wonderful and gave us a warm welcome at our neat and clean unit that was everything we had expected. The area is quiet and it felt like we were alone. The fireplace and sherry was wonderful. We will recommend it to anyone and want to go back when it's snowing.
Far exceeded our expectations.
The accommodation and scenery was unbeatable. The following can be addressed: The outdoor braai can be replaced/upgraded. The current braai is difficult to braai and is ageing. Provide a small axe to cut the wood for the fireplace/braai. The burnt ash/coals of the braai can please be disposed of somewhere else. Currently it is thrown right next to the braai and it breaks down to the beautiful scenery.
Maple Grove's staff has great service. The accommodation was very neat and well-equipped. It's a little good value for money.
Suited us perfectly in that we wanted to do as little as possible for as long as possible. Literally to recharge for the second half of the year. Well appointed and comfortable unit, everything you require. Only downside would be that accessibility is a little 'rough' on ones vehicle. 4x4 recommended.
We had a very comfortable stay at Maple Grove. Thank you, Lyndsay, for everything.
Everything was perfect. Lyndsay was very friendly and helpful. The cottage we stayed in was beautiful, clean and had everything we needed. Lyndsay gives attention to detail and one can't but feel at home.
Lovely open plan setting in beautiful surroundings. Warm and cozy, but spacious enough that you won't feel cramped. Just ask beforehand about the route to get there, because even though there is a nice tarmac road to it, Google Maps prefers the 30 km dirt road (it's a rough mountain pass dirt road). The view was indeed breathtaking!
We have stayed there before and chose to stay there again. Reception is very friendly and hospitable. Is willing to help with advice and action. Cozy place to hang out for those who don't want or can't do all the hiking trails.
This is truly a beautiful neat and special place. Everyone should experience this world and staying in Maple Grove makes it even more special.
Although the hosts were in New Zealand, they did not leave a stone untouched to make our stay comfortable, relaxed and full of surprises. We'll be back asap!
Baie lekker. Pragtige omgewing.
The weekend at Maple Grove in Hogsback was truly amazing. The accommodation was comfortable and the fireplace and electric blankets helped against the cold Hogsback weather. We will definitely go back!
Baie hartlik verwelkom. 'n Volledige klein huis met als in en 'n kaggel vir vuur en baie hout. Baie gemoedelik. Van die kombuisgereedskap kan vervang word. Baie interessante leesstof oor die geskiedenis en wat-om-te-doen. Alles was skoon en in werkende toestand. Baie billik. Mooiste uitsigte en plantegroei. Die gastehuisie het regte charm.
It was very pleasant! The scenery is amazing!
Maple Grove is very privately located with scenery around you, I just think that the condition of the roads in Hogsback is a big problem, (gravel laid over tar) and dust was a big problem as trucks move through town and cause a lot of dust. This will definitely affect tourism negatively.
Maple Grove is one of those hidden little treasures. Located among the natural forests of Hogsback, a nice place to completely switch off and get rid of all your stress.
The owners were friendly and helpful. We had a very nice stay.
The Walkers are always so hospitable and considerate that we will stay here for some time when we are in Hogsback. Thank you very much for your help in making our stay before the wedding stress-free!
WOW, what a wonderful place. Carina and I enjoyed staying in the Cabin - cosy and comfortable. The welcome was great and the Cabin is special - fantastic view of the garden and the birds. All the facilities are 100%. Lindsay and Peter are great hosts and Lindsay thanks for your caring when the electricity went down. Three evenings was not long enough!
Beautiful place and very comfortable.
We recommend Maple Grove. Beautiful interior and well-equipped. Friendly reception and they made us feel welcome. Comfy beds and linen.
I never say "wow" and I never say "awesome". But Maple Grove made me say "wow" and "awesome" a couple of times. Lyndsay and Peter got some help from mother nature with regard to the location, but the rest is all thanks to them. They are friendly and helpful without being overbearing and that is quite the achievement. We stayed in The Cabin and the layout and finish is excellent and the little Queen Anne stove was just what we needed to keep the cold at bay. The deck with the BBQ is great and they also have covered parking. I write this review because we have a lot of experience staying in self-catering places, from studios to two-bedroom units, from Paternoster tot Port Alfred, from the KZN Midlands to Carnarvon and Clanwilliam, and from the Waterberg to Bredasdorp and Robertson. Maple Grove's Cabin is awesome.
The road to Maple Grove is not the best. We had never been to Hogsback and didn't realize it was mostly dirt road. It's really very beautiful there and the place has a lot of potential. However, we would have preferred it a bit cleaner, but maybe that's just us. Keep in mind that you will pay for the first crate of wood. (We paid R50 extra for 2 nights' fireplace). The cottage stands under a large tree and this is accompanied by very loud noises on the tin roof. We like rain on a tin roof, but it woke us both nights often. It may take some time to get used to such night sounds.
Maple Grove is a well equipped holiday unit for a break from the busy city life. The fireplace is so cosy and the scenery is stunning.
Really enjoyed the stay. The cottage has everything you need, nice and tidy and "cosy". We had a great time watching Wimbledon while enjoying red wine in front of the fire. Wonderful owners (leave you a flip file full of information about the history of the village, the owners, and cool things to do). The village is straight out Lord of the Rings. Will go again!
The environment is beautiful. The house is so beautiful and comfortable, with everything one needs. It was a lovely weekend and we only wanted to stay longer.
Amazing! Was lovely and relaxing and truly a peaceful getaway. Would have liked to go again if it wasn't so far from Gauteng. Could consider a flight to East London.
Incredible bird life, environment and accommodation.
It was a lovely quiet little place to return to after a day of walking in the woods. Maple Grove is tranquil and peaceful. Enough wood for the fireplace is provided as well as milk in the fridge upon arrival. We had a wonderful visit, braaied, hiked and relaxed at the Walkers. It was a great getaway. All you have to keep in mind is the road. If you are visiting in the winter/rainy season, your vehicle needs to be rather high off the ground as the road can get rather ugly on the way to Maple Grove. The most of Hogsback is also dirt roads.
Maple Grove has everything you will need — including a peaceful environment in the bush. The roads are just in a very bad condition — probably meant for 4x4 vehicles.
Maple Grove is an experience filled with surprises! Not only is Hogsback an experience, but Maple Grove is the perfect location to explore the beautiful town and surroundings. The cabin lacks nothing and is equipped to face the changeable weather.
Enjoyed the rusks and sherry and there are more than enough heating options in the cabin. Well equipped and friendly service.
Our visit was very quick and short, but would recommend it to anyone. Will definitely want to visit again.
So nice and cuddly and warm in the cold evenings. Will definitely stay there again next time.
The cabin is comfortable, large and very cozy with a fireplace and large deck to admire the tree-rich garden. Unbelievably nice stay and hanging out by the fireplace. Value for money.
The place is nice and quiet and in the cold everything you need to keep you warm was there.
The cottage was like an Alpine chalet, it was very well appointed with everything you need and with lots of extras showing great pride in the chalet. Our hostess was Lindsay Walker and she went to a lot of trouble to make our stay so pleasant. Our stay was in autumn and the colours were amazing. Maple Grove is highly recommended.
We only stayed one night. The Cottage is ideal for honeymoon couples. Everything is there and very cozy atmosphere. Fireplace, sherry, stile.
Well equipped chalet with a homely atmosphere and the fireplace was lovely.
Very cute place. Calm and quiet.
Very nice stay and the attention of the owners excellent. The unit was spotless and the fabric a winner!

Visiting Hogsback has always been one of my "bucket list" dreams. Maple Grove absolutely met all our expectations: wonderful hosts, exceptionally well-equipped accommodation.
Great family Visit. I would recommend Maple Grove to anyone. Fantastic, quiet, and great setup.
It was food for the soul - peaceful, safe and relaxing. Friendly and hospitable owners.
It was a lovely stay, and we would recommend it. We especially liked the fireplace.
I will definitely recommend Maple Grove to anyone visiting Hogsback. The hosts were absolutely wonderful with our planning and stay.
Positives: very friendly & attentive (but not overbearing) hosts, fantastic welcoming attention to small details in the cottage (eg. flowers, rusks, muscadel, wood & fire ready to lights), very nice gardens & peaceful atmosphere. Amazing value for money & well designed accommodation. The Negatives: the cottage is starting to show just a little of its age & small maintenance needs are starting to surface. The 3 Jack Russell dogs kept us awake until 11pm barking one night while the owners were out - but I don't think this is usual. Maple Grove is just a little far from the main "centre" of Hogsback - but the price makes up for it.
Fantastic accommodation with friendly people. Advise to future guests: use a higher vehicle to reach here, as most of the roads leading to Hogsback are in a terrible condition. However, it was a very good experience all round, if roads are not considered.
