With the Waterberg Mountains as a backdrop, guests have a choice of staying in 3 safari tents, and each night guests will be able to hear the lions roar, hyenas laugh, and jackals calling. The tents are furnished with double or single beds, and each tent has an en-suite bathroom with a shower. Warm water is provided by a donkey wood-burning water system. Linen and shower towels are provided, but guests please need to bring their own swimming towels. Electric points are available for lights and chargers, but as the tents are run on solar panels, unfortunately, there are no fans or air-conditioning. Guests are asked to use electricity sparingly.

The sanctuary is home to a variety of animals ranging from lions, tigers, spotted hyena, cheetah, wild dogs, leopards, mongoose, meerkats, and monkeys.

26 guests' feedbackWarmly welcomed by Rose on our arrival, made us feel special, and went out of the way to make the weekend special. The sanctuary is clean and well-maintained. Highly recommended.
Was very special to wake up and go to sleep with the sounds of the lions.
Was very nice, can recommend. Very friendly and helpful.
Although the traffic on the provincial road can be distracting, we really enjoyed our stay. We opened the window tent flaps and slept like that. Was able to experience a full moon and sunrise in the bush from the comfort of our bed, with lions whose deep beautiful roars kept us company twice during the night. Will go again.
Unbelievably beautiful environment. So nice to hear animals and they are walking distance away. Feel free to recommend for young and old. Owner is always available when you call.
Very peaceful place and the animals are beautiful and well looked after.
Marakele Animal Sanctuary is perfect to get away from it all. The safari tents are neat and everything you will need is there. I understand that solar power is used, but it would be nice if the fridge could be turned on on the day of arrival so that there is a cool place to store meat etc. to store. The customer service is also a bit chilly. Our overnight stay was part of a motorbike tour i.e. there is not much storage space. When I inquired if there was wood available for braai on the premises, the answer was that we must be checked in before a certain time (5pm?). The result is that we had to stop and buy wood to carve together. The service on arrival through Sydney had been good.
The pool was broken when we were there. It's nice to hear the wild animals like that in the evenings. Accommodation was clean and tidy.
Very unique getaway, close to all the animals. Exciting experience for our child when you hear the lions roaring at night! Definitely worth it.
Nice, peaceful place where you can rest well.
The cages of the monkeys and certain small animals are not cleaned at all on weekends. They should also apply better access control.
A must experience for any animal lover before going to Marakele National Park.
Exciting and beautiful with lions roaring in the middle of the night and early morning hours.
Upon first arrival, you hear clearly and immediately the roar of several lions. As you arrive at your remaining building, a cheetah also stands so close and right in front of the accommodation behind a high fence to welcome you, with the wooded mountains complementing this portrait beauty in the background. Very neat setup that immediately puts you at ease, with braai facilities, should you want to personalize Bushveld experience with friends and/or family. The accommodation is supported by environmentally sensitive power supply, with the help of solar panels. So should you be sensitive to heat throughout the evening, you may need or request an extra adjustment device. For the winter, the accommodation is equipped with a fireplace, with wood provided at extra cost, upon request. Other than that, the cost is very reasonable for what you experience.
I just could not get away from the lions. They were so beautiful to me. I felt I had to stay even longer. I will be going back soon with my children.
The one lion camp needs a drastic clean up. Other than that, everything else was pleasant.
Enjoy the roar of lions in the evening.
Very nice to hear the lions. The animals are well cared for and you can have a nice walk around. Kitchen well equipped except that the toaster needs to be replaced. One burner on the stove is not working. The tents are comfortable. One big disadvantage is that the road is too close and you hear the roar of cars all the time, it doesn't feel like you are away from the city noise. That's the only downside.
Enjoy the nature and totally fall in love with the leopard. The roars of lions was amazing.
The hospitality, tranquility and environment. An experience to wake up to the roar of the lions so close.
It's very comfortable, peaceful and definitely value for money and animals are an experience. They are beautifully cared for.
We will keep this stay in this sanctuary for a long time. To all tourists I say feel free to stay several days at Emma's. Lions. Great welcome. Emma and her team are lovely, kind. Too bad for us because 9000 km is too far to go back.
Very nice stay among the lions' roar at night. Good experience. Staff very friendly and helpful. Maybe put in a roof fan, tents very hot inside, even with tent flaps open. A little lighting in front of the tents is needed and also hot water for showering etc. The donkey was only poked by staff on the first night. Had to make a fire in the donkey myself on the other 2 nights. Then only had lukewarm to cold water.
The lion roars made it sound like they were on my door step. I was a bit scared the first night, but it was worth it. I will revisit before the end of this year.
Everything is there for a nice bush experience. Fully equipped kitchen and tent houses. Good value for money.
Thank you to Marakele Animal Sanctuary. The accommodation was neat and the shower nice and hot. Will definitely stay there again and recommend it. Thank you.
