Aunt Marie is an angel. Arrived there late afternoon and she received and welcomed us. It was loadshedding, but she gave us a flask of hot water for coffee. The room is equipped with 12v lights for load shedding. In the morning there was no power again due to stage 6, but there was a fresh flask of hot water. Thank you Aunt Marie.
Friendly reception. We were kindly given basic food packs as there were no takeaway places or restaurants open. The accommodation and courtyard had a slight undertone of the smell of urine.

When we arrived there it was on 1 Jan and all businesses were closed. They arranged meat etc for a braai.
Due to load shedding we could not boil hot water for coffee, but hostess provided hot water in hot flask for coffee.

The overnight stay was pleasant and the owners were very friendly, even made me breakfast before my early departure. And on that note, just bear in mind there is no cooking facility besides the braai, not an issue if you only going to braai and staying for one night like I did.

The room was spacious and comfortable. The host should have made an arrangement with someone to welcome us whilst she attended to her ill husband in hospital and also told us long beforehand that she would not be available. The house is drab and needs to be renovated. The garden was a mess!
I personally think No 5 needs upgrading. No wifi. Couldn't read what channel it was on TV at all. Think a newer TV will do the trick. An attempt was made to get into the driver's side. Electronic locking mechanism is damaged. Will have marked and repaired in Blouberg.
No Covid-19 protocols observed on arrival. The owner has a card machine but won't use it. She gave the option of cash or EFT. I offered cash, she chose EFT. She then handed me a scrap of paper with her bank details and the amount. She uses this same scrap of paper over and over again by simply crossing out the amount due and writing the new amount. I shudder to think how many hands that scrap of paper has passed through. I am still suffering after having almost died from Covid-19 last year. So I take Covid-19 protocols very seriously. Photos on website are outdated. Garden overrun with weeds. Accosted by beggars on arrival. Complained to website about this and the poor security. Owner then phoned me and said that what I complained of could not have taken place at the guesthouse and she can't be responsible for beggars harassing us outside the restaurant or in town. When we got back from dinner, her husband then came and sort of apologised.

We just spent the night there. Mosquitoes wanted to eat us. Nothing in the room to spray them with. Little things they could do better like there was no hand towel at the sink. I would have liked a flatter pillow. Coffee, milk and sugar were sufficient and biscuits were very tasty and welcome.
We were there during the cold front and the beds had electric blankets on them. It was so nice to get into a nice warm bed at night after 10 hours on the road.

We stayed in Carnarvon during our visit to the Meerkat open day. The entire trip and stay was excellent. At Maritza Gaste Huis we were warmly received. The rooms were comfortable with everything I needed. The breakfast was excellent.

We were received professionally and taken to our accommodation. For the countryside, we believe it meets but did not quite meet our requirement. A suggestion is that one of the beds be taken out of the room. Believe it would help a lot if the access gate was automated, it is a safety hazard as the gate has to be manually controlled.

Everything was okay, but we had to be quiet from 7 in the eve as some guests were complaining. I didn't think this is an old age home.
Had a great stay and got great advise about an excellent restaurant. The owner welcomed us and made us feel at home. We found that the TV is a bit too far to see properly, but it's probably because of our age!
Arranged for braai-pack beforehand, as we arrived there on Sunday afternoon and Carnarvon's shops would then be closed. Maritza went out of her way to make it special for us. Our rooms were clean and tidy and we could rest and relax after a long and warm journey through the Karoo. Will definitely overnight there again.

Accommodation not set up well enough for my travel/accommodation purposes. If someone is only staying overnight, it's perfect. Needs necessary sleeping facilities. I will be able to recommend things, but only from an affordable, safe, overnight-only point of view.

We were welcomed very kindly. The place is full of character and neat. We were disappointed that, although we were 3 guests, there were only 2 bags of coffee and some tea available. The guesthouse is one of the older homes in the town. It is also in the older part of the town which can give the impression that it isn't very safe, but it is very safe. The reception was very friendly and we were referred to a great restaurant. The room is convenient, but it is older.

The room was clean and the bathroom comfortable. There were no other guests, so we could experience the wonderful silence of the Karoo. It's a shame that there wasn't a sink where you could wash your dishes, because then we had to use the sink in the bathroom. But the provision for coffee and/or tea and breakfast the next morning was a bonus. Thank you very much for that.

Room does not meet the standard. Duvet and pillowcases on bed are faded. Shower has curtain on and no door, causing the floor and carpet to be soaking wet. Owner can feel free to look at her linen, which is very important, as well as the mattresses of the beds.
Room was lit all night due to outside lights being on, curtains inside room light and translucent, glass outside door with lights shining through, security light outside switching on and off. It was a night I will soon forget. Mattress on bed bitter bitter hard, feels like you are lying on a board. Total room was not up to a good standard at all. It was one of the worst bookings I have ever done.
We spent the night in a nice big room with air conditioning and DStv, so we could still watch our soaps. The hostess' hospitality and helpfulness was wonderful! We immediately felt at home and were able to rest well before continuing our journey the next morning. We will definitely recommend Maritza Guest House to all people who come our way and travel through Carnarvon.

The room is comfortable with a kitchen with almost everything we need. There is a microwave, but not a stove. The owners have made an effort to ensure that there is a water tank on the premises so that guests can shower despite the water shortage. The owner is very helpful and friendly. The guest house is conveniently located within 3 blocks of the main street, so we could walk to the restaurants. It's even closer to the museum.

The people are very nice and helpful, but for the rest, e.g. quality of the room, the linen, is not standard at all. We were warned in advance to take a shower in the evening because there might not be hot water in the morning. This is completely unacceptable.
We were very well received, after we informed her that we wanted to leave early the next morning, she brought us cereal to eat before we left. There are braai facilities with everything one needs. It was hot, and the air conditioning helped a lot to cool down our stay after ten hours on the road.

We had a lovely stay at Maritza Guest House. Marie prepared a delicious breakfast for us, after a great night's rest. Als was pretty clean and tidy.
Everything was clean and tidy. Owners very hospitable and helpful. Beds and other facilities comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. Might recommend new towels. I missed good coffee, and it might be a bit expensive, but can recommend sit for overnight travelers.
