This double-storey house can accommodate 8 persons and consists of 4 air-conditioned en-suite bedrooms . Two bedrooms are fitted with twin beds and two with queen beds, and the bathrooms have a shower or bath. The fully equipped kitchen contains a large fridge-freezer, a gas stove with an electric oven, a microwave and an ice maker.
The upstairs lounge offers a large flat-screen TV with full DStv viewing. The lounge opens onto an open-plan dining area, and from there, to the upstairs deck which has an outdoor dining table. There is an outdoor braai area, combined with a boma area where one can relax around a fire at night.
A small splash pool is available for guests to use as well. Mountain biking along the river is also very popular, as the terrain is level and the riverfront is approximately 8 km long making for excellent game viewing.
Guests staying at the house are therefore able to see the Big 5 from the upstairs deck, when they visit the river. Marloth Park also has its own animals like giraffe, wildebeest, zebra and impala. On the Kruger National park side of the river, there is a fence separating the animals from Marloth Park.

29 guests' feedbackVery nice stay. Place was neat and many animals came to visit. For the people of Australia it was truly an experience they will not soon forget. Rooms all very good and comfortable.
Nice location, spacious, interesting corners and outside space. Ideal house for family visits. We greatly appreciate the help during the stay, as well as when we forgot things there.
Hippo House is beautiful and I enjoyed my stay.
Very nice and the person who was there to clean was very helpful and friendly.
We thoroughly enjoyed the location and the house. It was wonderful to listen to the hippos and the kudus and zebras came to visit. Bheki was very helpful and friendly.
The view is stunning, we had a great stay.
Was okay, not at all what we had in mind of a nice family holiday home. The river view deck is really a spill, stairs style. No one wants to sit up there with the affected cloth.
We enjoyed ourselves but I think they need to improve on having linen changed. There was no housekeepers until on the last day.
The house was clean and serviced daily and even the generator put on during loadshedding by the care taker, great house for family or group of friends, love that it's so close to the fence looking into Kruger over the river, saw plenty of animals on a daily basis!
We rested wonderfully and everyone could comfortably do what they wanted.
We really enjoyed the house and facilities. The upper deck is great for wildlife watching and enjoying the sunrise. Rooms and bathrooms are comfortable. Only criticism is that more attention should be given to cleanliness in parts of the house and back of the yard.
Hippo House provided us with everything we needed. The surroundings are beautiful and the view from the deck is amazing. Marloth Park is a wonderful place to visit and we would recommend it to anyone. Close to Kruger and lots of animals right at the house.
House very pleasant with aircons that work well and clean bathrooms and amazing hangout place for big family!
See stars.
The house is well equipped, private and in a great location. The viewing deck has great views into the Kruger Park where we spotted many animals during our stay.
House is nice and tidy, the care taker Bheki is friendly and very helpful. Will definitely go there again.
We were however a bit disappointed with the kitchen, which was very old and grubby. Broken cupboards, we're very grotty. One of the gas stove plates didn't work and the stove unit very wobbly. And the tiles didn't go behind the stove unit, leaving one a bit skeptical about the hygiene. There was not enough cutlery, especially dishing up spoons, wooden utensils for cooking as the plastic ones need replacing. No pot holders for the table and no potato peeler. Sharp knives need attention as the little sharpener didn't work. No plastic plates, or bowls (the two that were there need to be replaced) for children.
The house had no proof that it had been cleaned in this Covid times, the guy Bheki doesn't even wear a mask correctly and hangs around so early to clean and leave within almost 30 min the air-cons did not work there was no sanitiser, one tiny soap cube was available, there was no insect repellent which would be expected in such a place and for the price also says that wood is given which was not we had to pay for our own wood. On the Saturday morning I sent my spouse to buy bathroom cleaner doom and polish as well as dishcloths to clean the place as the house needs a good deep clean. We were given towels once and not again the mats and cupboards have never been cleaned. You are afraid to sleep on the beds and cover the couch with a towel before sitting, we are truly disappointed especially in this time and pandemic Covid.
We all decided that we would go again as soon as possible and this time for longer. It is convenient, comfortable and luxurious. It is a bit bad that you can only see the river from the vantage point. The rooms and bathrooms are really pleasant. We are going to make our home in the woods for sure.
Stayed there week. People are friendly place is clean and tidy and has everything you need and everything works. Short minor maintenance here and there but nothing that affects the stay. Nicely located close to everything and as safe as you can possibly be.
The house was fully equipped with everything one needs for a self-catering unit for a large group of people. It was very nice, the location of the house is also perfect. The fact that the rooms have air conditioning also helped a lot.
The only thing that can improve is the warm water supply - wasn't enough for 8 guests.
Staff friendly and helpful. Abri went to the effort to courier something back that was left behind.
We were a group of 2 families, one with teenagers. Hippo House is a convenient destination. The rooms are neat, and the living areas promise wonderful visits. We had a great time together, made food and lazily cooled off in the pool. We didn't need anything more than what the house offered. The ice machine is a bonus because it's something we always take with us. The nice big fridge and freezer in the kitchen and the fridge in the bar add a lot to the comfort of the house, there is more than enough space to keep everything cold in the hot weather. The air conditioners in the bedrooms and living area also make a visit very comfortable. The upper deck really looks into Kruger and we enjoyed our early mornings and late afternoons with game viewing. Anton's service was brilliant and he really went out of his way to make sure we were satisfied. We had a sparkling pool and barbecue every day. Thank you Anton.
The manager, Anton, was very thorough, friendly and helped a lot. We had no hot water in 2 bathrooms for 2 days, but Anton arranged for the gas to be replaced. The kitchen on the second floor is a little annoying as everyone hangs out and barbecues. The braai facilities are very nice and all the implements in the kitchen are luxurious, new and fantastic. The master bedroom with the en-suite bathroom's sheets could be replaced - they look very old, and there were also fish moths found in the bed. Furthermore, maintenance must be done on the house (hedge is almost falling apart). All-in-all, had a nice week in Hippo House.
Hippo House is situated close to the river and thus the location of the house is great. We did, however, have endless issues with hot water supply and the children had to bath in cold water some evenings. Abri advised that some lizards had bred in the geyser box, but even after this was resolved the water was still not constant. It would be hot for 2-3 minutes then ice cold. Then we would have to close the tap and repeat the process. Although Abri provided the plumbers contact details I do not feel this is something I would like to resolve while on holiday. The house has plenty of potential but it is in need of dire maintenance and a thorough clean - a used condom was left on the bedroom floor from previous guests which was not cleaned when we arrived.
Hippo House is neat and strategically located on the banks of the Krokodil River. Anton welcomed us warmly and explained everything. Abri helped us immediately when the geyser tripped! Comfortable accommodation which we really enjoyed. Full marks to Abri and Anton and whoever else were responsible!
We had a wonderful time and the house is neat.
The house offers amazing and clean accommodation with a view over the Crocodile River and the Kruger National Park. We were able to see a lot of buffalo and elephants from the house. At night it felt as if the Lions were roaring in the garden, we were so close to the Kruger Park. Anton, the caretaker, did a great job and was an added bonus we did not expect. The house was fully equipped for self-catering, even an ice machine and gas braai was available to us. Full DSTV was available, so we were able to keep the kids happy and watch our sport. It was too cold to use the splash pool but would be nice on hot summer days. We would definitely returning very soon and highly recommend this accommodation.
