156 guests' feedbackOur stay was extremely enjoyable! The cottage was clean and well kept.
Our stay was really very nice. We enjoyed the cottage and the area. We would recommend it to anyone seeking a peaceful weekend away.
It was so nice, beautiful and perfect! It's so neat and clean, everything works and they provide for load shedding.
Breathtaking Karoo mountain scenery. Absolutely clean, well-equipped cottage, even with a bocce court. Great walking and cycling region with a picnic site on the river. Perfect sunflower views in the valley. Excellent braai facilities inside and outside. Will return.
The place is very neat with everything you can think of. We were received very kindly by the hostess and she told us a lot about the farm and what to do. It really is a wow place and we are so sorry we only booked 1 night but we will come again.
Absolutely amazing weekend. Can 100% recommend! Such a beautiful farm and accommodation. Safe for kids to roam around and bird life breathtaking! We didn't want to go home.
The accommodation is in a very beautiful environment in the Karoo.
An experience off the grid. Lots of running and cycling.
It was blissful! The silence is deafening! Clean, tidy with a lovely old world charm. And everything works!
Most enjoyable and peaceful place to stay.
Have a great time and explore the area. So beautiful next to the Komga river. The air cooler was a winner when the temperature was around 40 degrees. The information about the history of the farm and photos were informative.
We stayed at Middelplaas and really enjoyed it. The place was neat, clean, and very cosy in the evenings with a fire. Perfect for summer or winter holidays.
After the noise of the city, his place was so quiet and peaceful my ears were ringing. Old fashioned charm, quirky decorations. Clean and comfortable. I enjoyed some milky way photography in the absolute darkness. Unfortunately our stay was just an overnight, otherwise we would have visited the picnic spot and done a few walks. We will be back.
Quiet place. Nice area.
Very nice. Will go again.
Very spacious neat house with everything in the right place.
A great place with friendly people. It is very cold there in winter so be prepared with wood. If you like it quiet, this is the place.
We had the most amazing time and fell in love with Matjiesvlei and Bokwagtershuis! Everything was perfect. The cottage is spacious and equipped with all the amenities you need. It's the perfect place to unwind, connect with nature and recharge your batteries! We will definitely be back.
This is a gem of a place. Unbelievably beautiful farm, environment and nature. Next time we stay for a week or more! Everything you need is there and more.
Although we only used it as an overnight stop, it is definitely a place we will want to go back to for a long weekend. Was so nice. It is away from everything and everyone.
Would have liked to stay longer but unfortunately had other commitments. Very well equipped accommodation in a picturesque, beautiful setting. Would love to return.
Very neat accommodation, everything you need is available there. Will spend a weekend there again.
We love this spot and have stayed here several times and hope to visit again.
Explanation to Middelplaas is very nicely and comprehensibly laid out. It was easy to get the unit. Place is very neat and clean. Everything is available, just need to bring clothes and food. We had a great time.
It was a fantastic weekend getaway to Matjiesvlei Cottages. Will definitely visit again.
Ideal place for family to rest and enjoy nature. Will definitely go back again.
Nestled in a Klein Karoo valley, this beautiful cottage has designed spaces to enjoy its views, comfort, privacy, swim and entertain.
Quiet, remote and peaceful without technology.
Drove and inside braai works very nicely.
As a family with small kids, the place has limited options. It is a working farm so during the day there is a lot of activity and a lot of vehicles on the road next to the house. The picnic site is nice and there are some great hikes very close by. The cottage could benefit greatly by getting an outside braai as the firepit is not great to braai in. A plunge pool would be especially great for families. All in all, we enjoyed our stay, but there was not much that wowed us about the venue.
The Cottage is fully equipped. There is literally nothing that isn't there. It was very clean. We had an inquiry after we got there and got a response within 2 min. Will definitely go back again.
It's now our 4th visit there. We have been traveling to different places for years, but we celebrate birthdays there. We don't know why, but we just love the place. It's peaceful, it's beautiful and you find peace there.
We had a stall at the Calitzdorp succulent festival, and decided to seek out the quiet of the farm in the evenings instead, and it was truly incredibly peaceful. A lovely couple of evenings, just a shame we couldn't spend the whole day.
They had thought of everything to make us comfortable. We had a wonderful stay.
Comfortable farm stay with breathtakingly view of the mountains.
Owners were hospitable. If you like nature, Matjiesvlei is the answer. Few people know about the beautiful valley.
Amazing place and just so relaxing.
The unit provides all the needs. The surroundings are incredibly beautiful and remote.
Six friends for three days enjoyed the rural, quiet countryside. Lovely walks if you know where to find them. There are three or four separate venues to explore. Ask the local staff who tend to gardens and the olive orchard. Discovered a very scenic walking/cycling track a little up the valley.
We were there for a week and we could live so comfortably and peacefully. The view is beautiful. The benefits of picnic areas, swimming pond and the outdoor shower just put the place in another class. We will always want to go back.
The stables were very well appointed. Everything we needed to make the stay very special and extremely comfortable. The surroundings are beautiful and the whole experience recharged our batteries well. We will pay extra next time, for a few bags of wood. Thank you!
Lovely comfortable accommodation. Neat with everything you need.
It had been very nice, just very hot, but the air conditioner helped.
Air conditioning did not work. Chimney fish owl and smoke overtook us. The house was like a refrigerator. The surroundings were beautiful and enchanting but could not make up for the place to stay.
Ideal getaway for those who love the rivers and mountains of the Klein Karoo. Excellent location and facilities.
Beautiful place with all the amenities. All negative is the way there. Nail-biting dirt road. Make sure you take everything you need with you. It is far to the shops.
The cottage was very pleasant and clean, with all the amenities but still the farm feel. Would definitely stay there again and I can absolutely recommend it with great confidence. 120% is then stood!
What a special place! So peaceful and quiet and so well-equipped! Will highly recommend it! Thank you for the lovely stay! You will definitely see us again soon!
We stayed 2 nights in the Bokwagters house. We had excellent service from the owner, we received all directions by email in advance, as well as the code in which the key is stored for the house. You checked yourself in, the house was beautifully clean and excellently furnished with everything you can think of to make your stay comfortable. The house consisted of 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large spacious living/dining room and kitchen. The house was very comfortable with a large indoor braai, where you could enjoy braai and make a fire against the cold. There were 2 large fridges, microwave oven, washing machine, dishwasher and all appliances to have a very comfortable stay. There was also a wood stove for further heat. The master bedroom had an outside door opening onto a veranda with beautiful white quality linen on the bed. The shower was large and the water was soon nice and warm. The garden was well maintained with a large, green lawn for the dogs to run around. There was also a fire pit if you wanted to barbecue outside. Remember to take your wood with you. There was Wi-Fi and we could keep in touch with our folks through WhatsApp. The scenery was beautiful with the mountains and the orchard olives in front of your house. The silence was very peaceful, and the stars in the evening were beautiful. It was incredibly beautiful, the whole sky was lit up with stars as far as you could see, 2 days is too short one should stay longer. There was a key and directions to the post office museum. It was a very nice experience to see all the "old things" in preservation. What a privilege it was, that the owner trusts one with his treasures. It was also very nice to read the books about the history of the farm and browse through Jan Braai's cookbooks. We can highly recommend Matjiesvlei Cottages for a very pleasant stay that will stay with you for a long time. The dirt road mountain pass for 7 km that takes you to the valley between the Black Mountains is beautiful and the road is safe for an SUV we drove. Many thanks to the host for your beautiful place that you shared with us, we will definitely come again and then stay longer than 2 days.
The facilities are perfectly 'rustic' for a getaway. There is no cell phone signal, but the free WiFi is enough if someone needs to get hold of you urgently. Beautiful house in a beautiful setting. The Middelplaas Huis where we stayed is also far from other cottages, so it is dead quiet. We will definitely go again.
The farmhouse is so cosy, we spent the whole weekend hanging out either outside on the porch or inside in front of the lovely fireplace! It is the ideal house for a group of people, with three rooms and two bathrooms. The kitchen is also nice and big. The scenery in Matjiesvlei is also beautiful, there are hiking trails and the beautiful Gamka River close to the house.
Everything you need and more. We had a very nice stay. The Post Office Museum was a wonderful surprise - very interesting. Beautiful view, we will definitely come again and stay longer next time.
Breathtaking landscape and peaceful silence. Very suitable for someone who loves nature.
We stayed in Die Stalle. Beautiful old farm building that has been restored with everything you might need from matches to bug spray. And luxuries like air conditioner and dishwasher. But the tranquility and natural beauty is what stays with you from where you sit on the nice stoep and visit. We forgot our new plastic wine glasses there but will pick them up when we visit again.
It is well appointed and is in a quiet, beautiful setting. The location is also of such a nature that one can explore the surroundings. From there we also drove over Swartberg Pass. Will definitely go there again.
Matjiesvlei is the perfect getaway for a weekend. The cottage is not luxurious, but is comfortably oriented, with a beautiful view of the mountains. It is a birdwatching paradise and a lovely walking trail on the farm itself.
The best place to switch off and just enjoy nature.
My partner and I stayed in the 'Die Stalle' house during our stay. It had everything we needed for a comfortable long weekend. The cottages are tucked away in a beautiful spot with rolling mountains and hills which allows you to feel like you are hours away from the nearest town - even though Calitzdorp is only a few minutes away. Although we didn't leave the premises very much other than to drive down to the picnic area and dam with our two dogs (and the old Jack Russell who we assume lives nearby and joined our pack for the weekend). We only booked for four days but were very tempted to extend and would definitely go back.
Very nice and neat! Can definitely recommend it. Maybe just a fan or air conditioning for the rooms.
I visited Matjiesvlei for 3 nights and it was so beautiful I had to stay an extra night. The cottage had everything you could possibly need while being so secluded in nature. I would definitely recommend it.
If you are looking for a break from it all, with all the amenities, an indoor braai, farm dam and majestic scenery, this is it.
We stayed at Middelplaas for two nights. The directions were good, found everything that we needed for a getaway weekend, neat and clean, appreciated the insect screens on all windows and doors. Spent most of our time outdoors, on the grass/patio, walked around (trails on the farm), did some birdwatching. Middelplaas is a working farm.
Unique experience - we stayed in Middelplaas Kothuis. Between the multitude of stone and rock, it was a piece of green lawn and with accommodation that is convenient and comfortable. The house is small but fits a family or four people easily. The cottage is also close to the river barbeque and the area invites an almost continuous mountain bike / hiking activity. We plan to visit there again. If you really just want to be somewhere quiet, this is a very good choice. Be careful with vehicles in the parking lot at the cottage - there are large stones packed that can also damage your vehicle's doors if you open them too close to them. Also bring a sponge for the dishes, only one cloth and one dish towel are provided and who struggles with the dishes.
Peaceful environment for relaxing, ideal for children to play and swim outside and for everyone to hang out together.
Beautiful, peaceful place. We stayed in Die Stalle and it was fully equipped with everything needed to enjoy the evening.
It is a very nice place, the location is fantastic, the view breathtaking, the tranquility priceless. Maybe a bit expensive for just two people, but if more than one family goes then it won't stretch the budget so much, but again we had a great stay, thoroughly enjoyed it, everything you need and more is there, even a tripod pot
Beautiful place to unwind. The cottage was clean and comfortable. The instructions given by host for directions and check in were accurate and easy to follow. We loved the farm feel of the house with all the modern comforts needed. Would definitely recommend.
Cottage had all the necessities and more for a great getaway.
The farm is close to Calitzdorp, yet secluded with wonderful history and even a farm museum! Nice indoor barbecue for cold evenings and a clean pool-dam to frolic in. The dogs were ecstatic.
We like our vacations to be completely private and without technology. We have a 2 and a 4 year old who played in the garden until dark, catching bugs and getting into bed dirty (after bathing them). Calitzdorp is lovely. There is a tractor that pulled us around all day from one wine farm to the next, cute little shops and good coffee at the Bakhuis. The house has everything we needed. Remember to take salt with you. It was 35 degrees one of the days, but was able to turn on the air conditioning when we got home. We will go again for sure.
It's quite a nice dirt road drive to get to the house, very nice view. We stayed in the Middelplaas cottage. It was nice and quiet and close to the river. The house is very neat and there is a very nice braai place outside with a very nice view. Our weather was a bit bad the last night, but at least we could still barbecue inside. Will go back again.
The Bok wagtershuis is well equipped and provision has also been made for load shedding. The place is furnished and equipped like a farmhouse. The view from the porch is unbeatable.
The first thing we noticed when we unlocked the cottage is that it smelt badly of smoke. I understand that there is a fireplace inside but it was not a welcoming smell.
This hidden valley with the most beautiful views and water is a loop court for rest in the Klein-Karoo. Yet 12 km from a beautiful town. We will visit again for sure, just want to stay longer next time. Great cycling, stargazing, of course grilled, and rest. The house is basic, and everything one needs is there. Thank you.
Cottage was in a very peaceful location with views of the mountains. Although close to two other cottages, we still had privacy. Very well equipped and spacious.
Had a wonderful rest and switch off, away from the daily activities. Farm atmosphere with all the luxuries at your disposal.
A beautiful space with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. The river is a quick drive away with braai and swim areas and fishing! The little ‘plaasdam’ on our doorstep gave us lots of relief from the heat. Visit Matjiesvlei for a well deserved break!
One of our most enjoyable getaways ever. Beautiful accommodation of top quality, restored with the utmost respect and love and a clear compassion and recognition for the provenance and history of this special valley. The silence. The stars at night. Swim in the pond. The variety of birds. The gorge's colors at different times of the day. The breeze through the olive grove. We will definitely come again and again.
We enjoyed it very much. Very quiet and peaceful. Real spacious old farmhouse with everything you need. Here you can have a good time with your friends.
Matjiesvlei is a beautiful little valley near the R62 - houses among olive trees near a stream of water. This is a really nice furnished house with everything you need. The communication was also good. We would love to stay here again with friends next time.
The house itself was very neat and clean. House comfortable and location looking out at mountains is stunning.
If one longs for tranquility, Matjiesvlei Cottages is the right choice. It brought back memories of my grandparents' farm in the 50's. The restoration is beautifully done. We also found the information leaflets useful.
The cottage was well equipped, had everything we needed. We were comfortable, everything was clean, although the shower is a bit of a 'dark hole', which put my husband off showering. The river and the mountains make a lovely backdrop, the footpaths are very inviting. We realize it is a working farm, lucerne, olives, but found the continuous hum of - we presume - water pumps at night somewhat irritating and disturbing.
Well, for dad, the indoor grill was the best. The place is nice and clean and walking distance to the swimming place. Has a lovely porch where we had a good time and Uncle Skillie the turtle also came to visit. So 2 peaceful, nothing-doing days for us - nice break from Covid 19.
Beautiful nature! House tidy!
Accommodation reasonably comfortable. Owners/managers did not go out of their way to either greet us on arrival or see us off on departure - disappointing, not even a welcoming note. House was not very welcoming on arrival - veranda dirty and outside furniture not set out to welcome new guests (but house clean). Generally comfortable with most accessories that one needs. Value for money is good, but no nice touches to make it more personal and engaging.
One of the best break-away destinations. Breathtaking views and just a fantastic location.
If we had really known what awaited us we would definitely have booked for longer. Definitely a place we will return to. Fully equipped for self-catering, clean, surrounded by nature, no TV - absolute bliss. Stars for Africa - no light pollution. Peaceful, quiet and clothed in beauty. Thanks for sharing this piece of heaven on earth with us!
We had a wonderful stay here at this retreat in the mountains. Lovely safe walks. Beautiful scenery! Warm, comfortable accommodation and friendly staff. Bonus is the dishwasher! Unfortunately the gas geyser in the spare bathroom was out of working order so we had to share a bathroom with our friends.
We had a nice stay. All the facilities were there.
See stars.
Beautiful cottage, lots of space, amazing finish. We will definitely be going back with friends to further explore the area.
We had a great stay in Die Stalle and were the perfect pit-stop on our way up the coast. The house is located in a beautiful valley that takes you on the most beautiful dirt road to get there. Bacon trees everywhere you look! The place was magical and would recommend that you pack away for a long weekend instead to completely relax. The outdoor shower was the icing on the cake, early in the warm morning sun.
Sien sterre.
Thanks Marietjie for your help and friendliness. Matjiesvlei remains one of our favourites, you'll definitely see us again! Everything we needed in the houses, beautiful environment, quiet and scenic.
We had a wonderful time in front of the open sliding door with the beautiful view. Fireplace is a winner! We will visit there again. We forgot our wood, but fortunately were able to buy a giant bag about 3 km before the turn off at the previous farm.
Very hot in the summer, but I know that winters can be enjoyed by the fireplace. Walking in the valley and the old-world Klein Karoo is nice.
The Matjiesvlei area is a particularly beautiful part of our country that not enough people know about. It is therefore a fantastic getaway to forget about everything and everyone.
Really enjoyed it, it would have been nice if the river was running, but we have no control over that. Place is very neat and nothing is missing.
We really enjoyed our stay at Matjiesvlei Cottages. The house is good value for money. We loved that there was air con because we had a really hot few days. The river and dam also offered a place for us to cool down during the day. The cottage is more of a chill/relaxation away spot as it is quite far from a shop and other places.
See rating.
The stables offer everything one needs to relax and just appreciate the beautiful nature.
Matjiesvlei Cottages is close to our hearts. This is already our third visit to the area and not our last either. The house with its fireplace and porch does it for you. The space inside and outside makes the place extra nice. It makes you feel so at home. In summary: can recommend to everyone. Magnificent.
We met the local farmer Mr Gauls and his staff, they are struggling with the drought and the river drying up.
Good accommodation in one of the most beautiful places in our country. Good communication from owners. Well equipped. A bit dusty, but understand that it could be due to location and thatched ceiling. Happy to recommend!
The gravel road was difficult, but other than that everything was good. Had a lovely overnight stay.
We often find accommodations where the photos misrepresent the property. With Matjiesvlei Cottages if it's just different. It's the nicest remote/farm property we've ever stayed in. Marietjie and Jan also made us feel very much at home.
The museum was very informative and tells a lot about the history. It was nice to sit by the barbecue and watch the stars. The natural beauty is indescribable and the silence gives one the opportunity to find oneself. Will want to visit again.
Will be able to recommend the place. One negative point is that the swimming facilities fall short.
Really loved the Museum. The road to the accommodation was so breathtakingly beautiful every day. The houses are very cute. We had a good time in the evenings. Was just a little disappointed about the swimming facilities, because on the website it says one of the activities on the premises is swimming and mum then made the mistake of telling our 5 year old she was going to be able to swim at the next place. Dam was full of mud and we couldn't swim at all.
The house was spotless and beautifully furnished - the veranda with the braai was very nice - everything we needed.
Everything has been thought of to make one's stay pleasant. The surroundings are picturesque.
We enjoyed our stay incredibly much. The simplicity was amazing, yet we had everything we needed. Throwing clay by the river, roasting marshmallows by the fireplace, and just being with family are some of the highlights. Winter visit was very nice, but think spring or summer picnic and swimming by the river could be even nicer. Will definitely go again. Thank you very much for everything, Marietjie.
We all loved the quiet and peaceful setting; the opportunity to walk and hike; the opportunity to watch birds and small wildlife; to sit around the braai and see the full moon (and partial eclipse!) and dazzling stars; and the comfort of being warm and snug and safe at night. The whole 6 days being at Die Stalle and Bokwagtershuis was so restorative for one's being - we really felt enriched by being in this beautiful, sensitively restored place. The booklets on the history of the area, the veld and animals and other information, was fascinating and welcome. We all loved the way the cottages had been furnished with a mix of the old and authentic, and with the comforts of the modern too. We shall definitely love to return to Matjiesvlei Cottages again!
Our stay at Die Stalle was unbeatable! We cannot stop talking about the wonderful location of the house, the warm atmosphere and the convenience of everything one could possibly want for a quiet, peaceful farm holiday. We are only very sorry that we could not visit there much longer, but we will definitely want to go back there again and again.
One feels like you're home when you arrive. You will receive such a warm welcome from the house when you step in, as if every item in the house is specially selected. There is everything that one needs in your life every day. It also struck me how super clean the house was. It was so nice. We can definitely recommend people to go there. The tranquility and the lovely veranda to sit in the morning sun and hear the birds whistling.
This is no dump in the sticks. The cottage is very well equipped in a lovely 'old fashioned way'. The nights are pitch black dark and quiet so we slept very well. We were comfortable and enjoyed the walks into the kloof and the spot on the river is super. We had good weather and then some cloud and rain, the only thing we missed were the stars at night. We found the silence most appealing and definitely of benefit to the health. We recommend your cottage and the farm to our friends and family and will try to be there again, soon!
A small home that were a part of a small settlement back in the day. Tastefully renovated with all the necessary facilities without breaking down the simplicity of that lifestyle, the tranquillity in the evenings and the noise of the Karoo. The WiFi works. The service and hospitality of the owner and manager are much appreciated. The views and beauty of the environment, especially on the way there, will linger. Worth it and we look forward to visit again.
Perfect getaway from the town of city. Nothing beats a break in the Karoo. Perfect getaway to just switch off entirely. I just don't recommend driving down there with a vehicle with low ground clearance, was a good thing we had a bakkie. It was wonderful!
The silence and beautiful view make one calm down. Even the cold doesn't bother you with the lovely large fireplace in the living room. Just bring enough wood. We will definitely visit here again!
We will switch off again and just appreciate the tranquility of the Klein Karoo.
We had a wonderful time in the stables. Very quiet location with a wonderful view. Possibilities for walking but also for relaxing. It's a shame that the double bed, which looked great, doesn't light well and cracks badly. But for the rest all praise.
Was lovely to stay there. We enjoyed the quiet, far from everything, away from the highway and very tranquil. Also very beautiful and neat layout.
Gravel road is longer than expected.
We stayed in Bokwagtershuis for 10 nights. Good remarks: The natural scenery is breathtaking. If you want to get away form everything and everyone then this is the place. Less pleasant remarks: Quite expensive for what you get. There is so much gadgets and nowhere to store food. And since you're quite a few kilometers from the town, you need to plan ahead. The "neighbours" were very rude. The drains were blocked and we had to sort it out ourselves since the caretakers weren't available. We also went without water for a day.
A simple house with all the necessary facilities and a beautiful view of the farm area and several options in the area.
Accommodation is a gem. Nature at your doorstep. It is like stepping back in time in a good way.
The little house are well-appointed so you have everything you need for a lovely getaway. The views and nature in this area was the highlight of our stay. We enjoyed every single moment. and I will recommend Matjiesvlei Cottages to anyone for unique accommodation!
Away from traffic. The silence we were looking for. The mountains, plants and water. What a great place! We stayed for 3 nights at Die Stalle. Definitely some of the most beautiful surroundings on earth! Die Stalle is well equipped and provides for everything. Highly recommended!
Will definitely recommend this accommodation and go again anytime. A bonus is the WiFi and that it's pet friendly.
The farm's surroundings are stunning, especially the mountains. The house is well equipped with everything you need and the fireplace is a bonus in winter. Absolute value for money.
We had a weekend getaway in the Bokwagtershuis. If the environment on its own wasn't spectacular enough, the accommodation impressed me very much. You don't need to take anything more than clothes / food / wood and vanity bag. Everything, including Wi-Fi, was provided. Very nice book to read about the history of the place. The people who look after the place are clearly very proud of this jewel. To top it all, the little dirt road is in very good condition and can be driven with any car. The place will definitely see me again.
If you want a retreat to ease the violence of the cities and the noise and perpetual light and stress, come and stay at the Matjiesvlei Cottages (Middelplaas). This was the first time we have been there. We were en route from PE and stayed for two days and nights. This was inner healing without us even being aware of it. The place was clean, neat and protected against bugs and baboons etc. by brilliant security screen doors. We were so comfortable. Then on the hikes near the river or up the Kloof, every step is a revelation and you can feel your body and soul getting better by the minute. The pitch black night and the distant milky way, plus a calming silence was nature's way of calming and healing. We will be back as soon as we can. Thank you to the wonderful and most helpful staff.
Very nice on the farm between the mountains with our pets. The scenery is beautiful with the olive groves, tomato fields and close to the river. The facilities are of a high standard, clean and neat.
The area is truly unspoilt with the most beautiful views. The house is well equipped with all the necessary comforts you can think of, but you still feel like you're on the farm.
It is so fully equipped that one expects the housemates to step out of a room at any time. All questions about Matjiesvlei are answered 100% positively.
Peace and quiet - how lovely thy are! Were never disturbed by the TV nor the cell phone. The environment is breathtaking, and the accommodation feels like you've gone back in time - a nice old farmhouse with thick walls and reed ceilings. We stayed in the "Stalle" ("stables"). To sit on the veranda and enjoy the view of the mountain is not something you can experience every day. We will definitely stay there again for a few days, as soon as possible!
Had a great time. One remark: nobody told us that the key was in the safe in the house. We had to drive up and down, and there was no one who could help us. We managed to get hold of the owners, but when we arrived at the house, it was already occupied by other guests! They were also confused and should actually have stayed in another house. Other than that, it was a special time and we will visit again.
We were treated to natural 'fireworks' between the black mountains. Matjiesvlei will definitely see us again.
Wonderful farm, beautiful scenery, top notch accommodation. Die Stalle, where we spent the night, is the most beautiful house with attention to fine detail. I could just sit on the porch all day and experience nature. The walking route was an experience - the route is well laid out and clear. At Matjiesvlei you find peace of mind to feed your spirit again. I will definitely visit again. Marietjie was very helpful with advice and directions and constantly kept us up to date with information.
Very nice stay, very clean & tidy & very well equipped. Looking forward to going back again!
Matjiesvlei is a little gem. Marietjie from Matjiesvlei Cottages helped us very well with directions and other necessary information. We were lucky to meet Gauls and Malinda who themselves farm on the farm. We just went to see how the animals get food, which our little girl enjoyed. Every afternoon we heard an osprey calling in the valley and in the evening an owl and pied-my-wife from the river. There is a booklet with very cool history about the farm and background about the environment in the house. The river has surprisingly a lot of water for a nice cool down. The wind can blow quite a bit down the valley, which affects the barbecue a bit in the evening, but it died down every night after 19:30. Definitely recommend!
Picturesque location. Really enjoyed the cute little house. The very best is the silence and tranquility... It does wonders for the soul.
Very nice stay. It is well equipped. Beautiful surroundings and delicious olives.
Peaceful and incredibly beautiful.

Would recommend anytime. Quiet and peaceful. Feels like one is in another world.
Beautiful place. Beautiful atmospheric house. Beautiful through simplicity. Fantastic outdoor shower! Great starry sky...
See the stars below.
A heavenly place to switch off and rest.
Everything needed is in the cottage. Clean and environmentally friendly. Staff very friendly. Will book again.
The only comment against Middelplaas is the mattresses which are a little past their replacement date. Furthermore, everything is beyond expectation. We are English speaking so apologize for the poor use of the language. Thanks for everything and thanks to Marietjie Scannel. Denis Wingfield
It's a beautiful, peaceful and excellent place to break away from the city's hustle and bustle. We will definitely visit again and recommend Matjiesvlei to our family and friends!
There was just no coffee and milk, but the surroundings were very beautiful... from another world. Thank you!
The Stables were beautiful. The large veranda was the most enjoyable of the whole visit and luckily there was air conditioning in one of the rooms. The kitchen is very small, but had all the necessary things. The beds are very comfortable and spacious, and the bedding is made of good, beautiful, white linen. The two smaller rooms were warm. We had a great time and would definitely like to stay there again for a longer period, because the whole atmosphere is just nice!
