The McGregor Backpackers is really a marriage between a backpackers and budget guest house. Accommodation is offered in 4 double en-suite rooms which also contain a single bed, a family suite of 2 rooms which has an en suite, as well as backpacker accommodation in the form of a 6-sleeper dorm which has use of 2 en-suite bathrooms, and separate toilet. The rooms are all centered around a lush and beautiful garden in a sheltered courtyard. All bedding and bath towels are supplied.
Guests have shared use of a communal fully equipped kitchen with tea, coffee and homemade rusks, a dining room, and a comfy lounge with DStv premium. Free and fast Wi-Fi internet access and secure off-street parking is provided.
Wood is available for sale, and ice is free. Our braai area and friendship table are made for socializing, and our resident braaimeester Geoff will even braai for you if you are feeling a little laid back.
The orchard garden is a delight with stunning mountain views and magical sunrises. We welcome groups and families, hikers, knights of the road and mountain bikers. McGregor Backpackers is pet friendly and will make your faithful companion most welcome, no sleeping on our beds though. We offer a shopping and shuttle service for hikers.
In doing our bit for the environment, we recycle, compost and harvest all the water that falls on our extensive roofs, We have solar geysers and even when the sun does not shine, there is always enough hot water.
We take the safety of our guests and their belongings very seriously and there is always someone on the premises to keep an eye on things and answer any concerns that a guest may have.

13 guests' feedbackWe thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely venue. Accommodation was perfect for us and the garden provided a beautiful setting to relax. It is a very well-equipped venue, with welcoming, friendly hosts.
Lovely, peaceful area, feel at home.
Short and simple but it was exactly what I needed. I think to call it a backpackers is a little misleading, because it is very well-maintained, very quiet and a level above what one might usually expect from a backpackers.
Everything was top notch. From the owners to the accommodation. Definitely more than a backpackers.
McGregor is a great town to recharge the batteries. Everything is about walking distance from the accommodation. Nice restaurants, beautiful church and so much to just breathe in and enjoy!
Geoff and Dorothy are great. Their spot is clean and well kept, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
Well equipped, friendly owners and great little spots in town to get some supper or just to have a drink!
I loved the communal spaces. Beautiful, spacious and clean.
We had a lovely stay at McGregor backpackers while visiting family in the area. Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating, and made us feel right at home. Will definitely be staying here again when visiting the area.

Very comfortable place to stay. Lovely hot shower, clean, tidy, comfortable home feeling, friendly service, well furnished, lovely bed.
Dorothy was a great hostess! She and Geoff received us like old friends. We even celebrated their wedding anniversary together with bubbles and home-baked chocolate cake. This is not a typical backpackers - we had a great time there with our 2 children under 7 years old. The premises are spotless! Dorothy puts a lot of effort into the courtyard garden, common areas and rooms. Our connecting rooms with bathroom were spacious enough for all 4 of us. We really regretted spending only one night in the backpackers - but we are definitely putting it on our return list.
