The romantic Stone Cottage, built in the 1850s, is located on a plateau above Meiringspoort. It sleeps 2 and you need only bring food and wine to make this an unforgettable experience. The cottage is accessible to vehicles with high clearance and is a good starting point for the farm’s wonderful hiking trails.
We have 4 comfortable, fully equipped, self-catering luxury chalets. They are set in beautiful, peaceful surroundings and each chalet has a queen-size bed.
The Milk Barn Cottage is a fully equipped, self-catering, 2-roomed cottage sleeping 4. The main bedroom has a double bed and the open-plan living area has bunk beds ideal for children.
The upper campground is located high in the Swartberg Mountains and is only accessible by 4x4. It has spectacular views over the Kamanassie and Outeniqua Mountains. It has potable water and ablutions with hot water.
We are located 3 km north of De Rust along the N12 Garden Route, only 27 minutes east of Oudtshoorn, 76 km from Prince Albert and 84 km from the national airport in George.
At Meijer's Rust, guests will find night skies that are an astronomer’s dream, abundant birdlife, and numerous walking trails. In addition to being an active farm where children can return to nature, Meijer's Rust is also a convenient base from which to explore the many other fantastic attractions located within the region.

Fantastic place. Really lovely.
It had been a lovely break. Everything was clean and tidy.
It was a great few days, walking, grilling, resting. Thanks Barry.
Very nice stay in a very neat unit.
What can one say it was fantastically peaceful in nature, but you have to love the outdoors. This is as natural as it gets, which makes it so special. All you see is nature and animals. Well equipped, everything you need has been thought of. Fantastic you guys.
Impeccable accommodation, truly in the mountains. Best craftsmen's carpentry I have ever seen! Real value for money. 4.5 km from the town De Rust. Situated in Meiringspoort, 500 metres from the tar road. Well done, Barry.
We stayed in the Kliphuis and it was an unforgettable experience. Just make sure the driver of your vehicle has good experience in 'offroad' 4x4. There are a few places where I got on my nerves, but when you get home it's worth it. We were kindly received.
We strongly recommend you!
A piece of heaven. Hospitable, most beautiful chalets, clean, scenery is breathtaking. I would give it 11 out of ten if I could!
Lovely stay in the Kliphuisie. Clean, well appointed, unique. Beautiful surroundings.
We had a very nice stay. It was so peaceful on the farm. We stayed at the milking shed, which is just next to the main house. Uncle was very considerate and kind. The dogs on the premises are all very friendly and well behaved. Our children (5) & (3) had fun playing on the lawn. The house has everything you need. WiFi reception is excellent, even if you enjoy the silence of the farm.
Excellent thank you very much!
We had a great stay with the canopy at our pitch which offered good shelter in the rain. Our little dog enjoyed her time with all the resident dogs and some of the other campers also had a dog. Bathrooms are clean and tidy and the gas heater ensures that there was hot water at all times.
Accommodation of excellent quality. Will definitely use the hospitality again.
Very nice Very beautiful and we enjoyed it a lot.
Very nice stay. Excellent quality accommodation and friendly guests.
Had a great time, will definitely visit again.
A beautiful luxury unit. Everything neat and clean, as well as air conditioning which is essential for the extremely hot summers. Will definitely stay here again in this wonderful environment. We and our child enjoyed it very much, thank you.
Chalet 2. Lovely five star luxury accommodation with a beautiful bathroom!
Beautiful and peaceful surroundings.
Lovely stay in a very luxurious chalet.
Very nice and tidy place. Beautiful finish and perfect location. Friendly reception. Most beautiful scenery. We will definitely stay there again!
I booked a place at the Kliphuis, but I had way too much faith in my Eco and couldn't master the road, but I was immediately helped with other accommodation on the farm. It's really very beautiful and the people are great. Will stay there again. Thank you very much for the nice visit.
We found the peace and quiet we were looking for here. Had a great time and rested despite the cold weather. The walking route had been wonderful.
Special accommodation where no expense has been spared. Very luxurious and excellent value for money. Location also excellent.
Lovely place you have there. We had a great stay and will definitely come back again.
Pleasant and good stay.
It was very pleasant. Away from everyone and everything. The weather was wonderfully warm. Could enjoy cycling. Hump up to stone house quite a challenge Everything we could need was there. The outdoor shower and bath was something else. Good for summer, just don't know for winter. All that might be added is a shade canopy for riding. The thorn trees shed a lot of glue. The beehive right by the front door was placed in such a way that we could not open it. My wife fell ill and unfortunately we had to return home on Saturday. Will definitely come again.
Unfortunately, we only spent 1 night here, but were very impressed with the well-equipped cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Their customer service is fantastic.
Very comfortable. I just suggest putting a curtain or blind in front of the glass double door for privacy as the bed is in the open plan area. It would also be good if water could be provided.
It was awesome! Nice. Nice. Nice. Nice. Nice. Nice. Beautiful beautiful. Anyflippin! Time!
Lovely stay with peaceful farm life. Although our plan was to camp, the weather did not cooperate and the host was able to accommodate us with a cottage. The cottage is beautifully furnished and we had a wonderful stay.
Pleasant. The shower curtains could do with a regular wash.
Very, very nice, thank you!
Nice stay, thank you.
Comfortable and clean in a farm setting.
See stars.
The place is extremely neat. However, there are a few things I need to bring to your attention. The reception is absolutely superb. A lady stopped us before we could report to the office, and only said "Go to no. 3". Those were the last words we spoke to any person after we got there. We were not informed of power outages, much less a walk-through in the unit with the person in charge. There was also no candle or even a light that we could turn on. The big ants attack you at the braai place and on the stoep. I am really disappointed in the stay at Meijer's Rust.
Peaceful & relaxing.
Beautiful, peaceful, perfect!
What a great experience, especially if you have dogs with you. The owners do not believe in leashes, not for dogs or people! We stayed on the "site" and yet it felt like we were alone. This is a good farm atmosphere and the facilities are excellent. Even the WiFi for such a remote location was excellent. We are going to come back again, because that silence and feeling of the environment is just unparalleled.
Very nice stay. Sleeping place and facilities were great. Bathrooms are luxurious. Maybe just needs more play space outside for smaller children.
Beautiful bathrooms. Very clean and good washing up.
This place is nicely located in nature on a working farm. Beautiful mountains around you with a nice walking trail or two. The cottage is equipped with everything you need. Five-star bathroom with convenient fittings. This place is suitable for spending one night or a few days. No cell phone signal is available here, but the WiFi on the premises worked well all the time.
These are beautiful houses and we had a wonderful stay there. So peaceful! I only wish we could have stayed longer, it is such a beautiful area.
Lovely, quiet, well appointed head cleaning place. We will definitely stay there again.
We enjoyed every minute. The chalet is spacious and clean, in quiet surroundings. The bathroom is almost luxurious, with 2 basins, a shower, and a big bathtub. The furniture is very comfortable, with a lot of wood, and no clutter with unnecessary ornaments. The stoep is shady and perfect for birdwatching.
Nice tidy, well furnished chalet with everything you need. A few minutes' drive to De Rust to stock up on provisions.
Second stay here after a swim at the Meiringspoort waterfall. Good facilities, although they need some gas in case you experience load shedding, preventing a morning coffee. No problem, plenty of coffee shops in De Rust. Thanks for the WiFi, added since our last stay.
It was one of the most beautiful places we have ever camped, between big mountains, green fields and water flowing in the background. It is a beautiful farm. Very calm, your soul finds rest. We only stayed one night. The bathrooms are of 5-star quality. Will definitely want to spend time at Meijer's Rust again.
Although it's an isolated cottage in the mountains, under clear starry skies, you still have electricity and internet.
Wow, the most beautiful views, mountains, mountains and more mountains, with beautiful purple flowers everywhere, blissful. Nice bath in the tub on the porch.
From Meijer's Rust you can visit many places, such as the Kango Caves, Oudshoorn Ostrich Farms, Swartberg Pass and Meiringspoort.
Warm welcome by Barry. The Meijers have created an oasis in a very dry part of the country.
This is one of those bucket-list stays. The Stone Cottage is wonderful.
Very enjoyable and welcoming.
Highly recommended for all tourists.
It is always a pleasure to stay at Meijers Rust. The farm is very beautiful and the accommodation is neat and clean. Everything you need for a night's stay is available.
Meijer's Rust is a beautiful farm with the most comfortable cottages to stay in. The rooms were nice and clean. Everything you need for comfort was there. Will definitely stay there again.
We visited in winter — possibly not the best time for cooking outside — but otherwise it was fine. Very cosy and you could just braai inside and possibly use the stofie, we didn't try. Great to bathe outside. Lots of walking trails are available. Great to have Wi-Fi.
Perfect location. Friendly people. Lovely stay.
Could not have asked for a better stay. A must-do for anyone who loves nature, beautiful sunsets and all the comforts of home.
Very nice stay near De Rust. Chalets are well laid out and furnished, nothing more is needed for a lovely visit in the small karoo.
The owner is extremely hospitable and likes to share his passion for his livestock with you. He is also an excellent conservationist of nature. There are wonderful hiking trails in the gorges.
A perfect spot for anyone who ever dreamed about staying on top of mountain in the Karoo.
This place is my new dream location. Isolation. Simplistic. Romantic. Back to the wilderness! Just enough comfort to make it cosy, but rustic enough to get as close to nature as you can. We loved the little cottage. We loved walking on the farm. We loved the kloofs and mountains. So appreciated that we could take our dogs. I felt we had only just tipped the iceberg on what there is to explore here. we will definitely be back! Wow wow wow!
We enjoyed our time at Meijers Rust. Picturesque, private and well located. We will definitely be back again soon.
I would like to say a big thank you to Barry and Vivienne for the investment they have made in renovating this old stone house so well and adding modern facilities such as electric water heater, gas stove, WiFi and good quality furniture. We really enjoyed the stay and were impressed with the zebras and moose that came to visit early in the morning. Also the ponds which are beautifully full of water and nicely located were a bonus.
Very neat, will stay there again!
Farm is very mountainous, green with several ponds. Lots of 4x4 routes between fynbos and proteas. Safe. Special historic stone house, ideal for summer and outdoor visits.
The environment is so peaceful and quiet it's fantastic. Great walking opportunities.
We had a very nice stay. Definitely will again.
Can plan routes from here.
Meijers Rust is well situated at the entrance to Meirings Poort outside Oudsthoorn. Caring reception and a visit for all. Animals and the owner create a memory.
Feel free to do so. Very nice unit. Calm atmosphere.
The campsite was clean and neat. The ablution block is 5-star; spotlessly clean and looks like a hotel bathroom. Each campsite has electricity and even a lamp for lighting. Great place to stay if you love farm animals and spectacular mountain scenery. Meiringspoort is very close to the venue and is a must-see. As far as safety/security is concerned, the farm gates are not closed at night and there is no security or access control.
Booked this place at the last minute and was expecting a rustic place. Boy was I wrong: this is a luxurious place with 5-star amenities! I have a low car that had absolutely no problem reaching the cottage. Parking was a tad tricky. Inside the unit, there's a comfy bed and couch. A nice kitchen that has everything you need. The bathroom is absolutely outstanding! There isn't a TV, but there is wi-fi. If you look at the pictures, one will show you that this place is surrounded by mountains. This is the most peaceful place imaginable! Not a sound in the night, and also not a light in sight; outside the cottage is completely dark! You couldn't ask for a better place to see the stars (and I think De Rust is the place to see the stars). Honestly, for what was received, this place was a bargain! To echo one of the other reviews: if you're reading this, just go ahead and book it! I stayed in cottage 4.
Kliphuis up in the mountains. All we can say. Wow wow wow. Elands were visiting close by, zebra and local baboon tribes. Glorious experience.
Wonderful view and peaceful.
Wonderful stop, loved every minute.
The road in is definitely 4x4 stuff, but it's worth it. The kliphuis has been well renovated, and the outside section is where you spend most of your time. It has shade, kitchen, braai and ablution section alongside the house. There is also a fridge and a gas stove, and the whole is well lit. Romantic at night in bed, and a three-striped mouse will visit as well. Lovely walks in the day - try going up the perennial river above one of the many dams.
We had a wonderful rest. We stayed in the luxury chalet number 3. The chalet is so beautiful and furnished with great care. It was really a great privilege for us to be able to stretch out and relax there. We were able to walk around and also ride the winding path to the other side of the mountain. It was special. Thank you, Barry, for your kindness as well. We will definitely come back.
Originally would have stayed upstairs in cottage, but Barry, the gentle gentleman that he is, came to our rescue after it was too rainy and cold and my wife too scared of the road down. We stayed in Chalet 1 and it could be described as a presidential suite. Can see that Vivienne has a very stylish woman's hand, there is definitely no more beautiful farm stay than that. We and our dogs were welcomed with open arms, unfortunately my young male is not well socialized with other dogs due to Covid, and walked through poor Barry's dogs. I am very sorry about that.
Beautiful old stone house located on the mountain, the silence and the natural beauty is the best! No one bothers you and you still feel safe. The price is very reasonable for what you receive. Everything you need is there (just take enough wood) Mr Barry the owner is lovely and he has a lot of knowledge about plants etc in the district! 10/10.
Our stay was amazing. The farm. The silence. The host was so warm. The residential units are of the highest quality inside. Nice stay. Slept well. Cool off in the farm pond. Have a nice walk. Will definitely stay there again. Can recommend it.
Good place for a romantic time. Historically. Enjoy the absolute silence. The tranquility of the environment. Very nice stay.
Very good, neat residential units with all facilities. Very still. Here you experience darkness when the sun has set.
Feel free to visit there. The people are friendly. The front door of the residence only needs a blind or curtain so that it can be closed at night. Other than that, everything is excellent.
We enjoyed our stay, despite the bad weather and loadshedding.
We were kindly welcomed. We will definitely stay over again.
Very nice farm atmosphere. Quiet environment so between the mountains. Nice walk and beautiful stars in the evening.
Klipkothuis is fully equipped and met all our needs. Bring flashlight or lamp in case of load shedding and matches or lighter to start fire. Definitely make sure that your vehicle will be able to handle the road to the stone cottage.
Very nice stay. The stone house with beautiful open log cabins with vertical buttress construction was a very clever invention. The environment in the valley is exceptional. Outdoor braai, kitchen, bath and toilet under roof area is very convenient. Maybe it gets a little cold in winter? Would love to visit the facility again. Recommend more than one night stay to enjoy the surroundings.
Arrival: No reception. Ran into 2 workers by chance, told us to follow winding path uphill, the stone house is always open because it can't close. The road was a thrill ride. Ice cold shower on open porch/kitchen/living area. 2 workers appeared out of the blue at 16:00 and planted thorn trees while we showered in cold water in the open on the porch. Nice isn't it? Their profit, our embarrassment. We pointed out to them that there is a very active beehive in the long grass by the entrance steps. They said it was life-threatening and would tell the owner if he came to collect them in a few minutes. High point. Here it comes now. There is a colony of mice living in the stone house that spent the whole night snooping around, on and in all our luggage, food, mugs, glasses and furniture. (Have video as proof). Some of the big older mice are already so used to that lifestyle that they pose for photos. However, the little ones are still camera-shy and run wild and crawl deeper into your suitcase for shelter. They then poop and pee out of fear. Didn't sleep at all. How romantic. We were obliged to book for 2 nights, as our request for only 1 night was not accepted. Well, we left early in the morning after the 1st night. Didn't see a chance for another night with mice. R1100/night written off. Spoke to owner on departure. He was very friendly and clearly proud of his beautiful venue. He apologized for cold shower, someone must have turned off the geyser as it is not their policy. Bees - apparently they are aware of the problem. Mice - they do not emit poison because it harms owls. Jitte, environmentally friendly pest control is surely available in sunny South Africa. He will apparently put out forging irons. It is very unfortunate that he has not done this for a long time, if he is aware of the problem. We see on reviews that more than 1 previous guest has already pointed this out. We learned our lesson. Read all reviews first before booking. In short - Wow website, you must run nice and well. On our profile, you will see that on December 12 we also had a misstep with a reservation in Laingsburg. Thank you for your follow up and the refund. greeting Jacoba de Kock.
Karoo farm atmosphere just what we want to enjoy. Thank you for a nice stay.
The unit is luxurious and beautiful, great value for money would definitely stay there again and also recommend to friends and family.
Beautiful surroundings and people.
It had been very beautiful. Slept great and had a very nice view.
We enjoyed the visit at Meijer's Rust 120% and the four days on the farm were one of the nicest getaways we have ever enjoyed. Meijer's Rust is a beautiful farm with even more beautiful, luxury units. Plus the owners, Barry and Vivienne are the most hospitable, accommodating owners. They are widely read, passionately fond of the region, farming, and animals, and sources of interesting information and knowledge. We are already planning the next visit to Meijer's Rust.
Don't think, just book!
Very nice campsite with all the facilities. Very friendly and we enjoyed drinking a cup of coffee early in the morning with the sound of the cows - just a nice farm feeling.
If you want comfort and beauty in one this would be the place for you.
It was wonderful to be able to rest with our Jack Russel, without worrying about who is going to be unhappy about something. The guests next to us had the cutest Jack Russel themselves and the two thoroughly enjoyed each other. Think she enjoyed the break more than we did.
Marthella was our hostess and I have not met a person with so much warmth and care for a long time. She was a star!
Houses are neat and the view is incredible! Will definitely stay there again.
What a really unique experience for those who want some tranquility! Highly recommended.
Wonderful scenery, fun on the farm!
Enjoyed every moment. Very modern and neat. Owner and staff very friendly and helpful. Hiking trails breathtaking. Plan your next visit to Meijer's Rust.
We have stayed in De Rust a few times, but never made the time to drive around. This time we made time. It was so nice. Everyone should spend a day or two here. Farm is very beautiful. We drove up the road to the mountain and looked at the yard from very high up. Vehicle needs a good ground clearance.
Excellent location for overnight or even longer. The facilities are above standard, tasteful and very luxurious. If you have a 4x4 don't arrive at the farm too late, give yourself time to explore the farm and drive over the mountain. We were kindly received and Barry dropped by again later to make sure everything was in order. We can highly recommend Meijer's Rust. Don't drive past here.
Nice hiking trails and beautiful nature!
Beautiful setting at entrance to Meiringspoort. Cottage was simply but perfectly equipped. Did not get to explore as much of the farm as we would have liked but did run into a herd of bontebok on morning jog. The owner let my 2 year old climb into his big tractor.
The owner and the place to stay are special. We were warmly received and talked with the owner for about two hours before we drove to our accommodation. Delicious on the special farm. It is delightfully beautiful between the mountains on De Rust.
Very friendly people. Clean and on your own. Quiet and peaceful and safe.
Beautiful surroundings with well-equipped luxury accommodation.
The environment and facilities are for sure some of the best I have visited. Meijer's Rust is the perfect place to call home and use as a central point when visiting the surrounding attractions. We recommend the place for sure.
We stayed in the stone cottage which was a really special, cosy stay. The hosts were extremely friendly and forthcoming. Unfortunately, our planned hike to the farm rained out, but we took the day to explore the charming village of De Rust and drive some of the back roads in the region, and had a lovely day. And we even saw a bit of snow on the high Swartberg on Sunday morning from our cottage. This is a really special destination and we hope to be back to explore the hiking trails into the mountains one day. A tip for those staying in the stone cottage: leave all your food in the fridge or in a rodent-proof box; we did so the first night and had no issues, but forgot chocolate on a table the second night and were woken by a night-time visitor gnawing at the wrapper.
On arrival we were not sure exactly where to go, there is also no signal on the farm to be able to call. Otherwise it had been a very good and positive experience.
Beautiful view of the snow-covered Swartberge. Lovely big bathroom.
Very friendly reception. Didn't get the chalet that was booked. Very luxurious accommodation with everything needed in unit. Pressure pump for the 2 units' noise when a tap is turned on is disturbing.
The accommodation is neat and clean. Good location. Will definitely stay there again.
The cottage is rustic, but cozy and well set-up. The track to the cottage is not suitable for an ordinary Sedan but my bakkie managed the trip well and all that is required is a reasonably high clearance. The setting is isolated and safe. Ideal for a private get-away or honey-moon stopover.
Meijers Rust's Kliphuisie in die berge"is not for the faint hearted!" We found it very special and something unique and special. It was a Karoo experience with mountains surrounding you. We walked, read and rested wonderfully in the silence of solitude and nature. It was good value for money!
You wake up with the mountains right in front of you.
Great overnight stay. Comfortable and neat. Early before we leave, go for a nice walk on the beautiful farm.
Barry is very nice, the fittings are of great quality and everything is new and modern.
The unit I went home in is five star beyond. I'm definitely going to miss that shower. The farm atmosphere, what can I say, more than I expected. It was wonderful. Will definitely see me again. Well done Barry for what you have achieved with the farm, I read the history of the farm in an old Agricultural Week magazine lying in the unit. Very impressive.
Host was kind and understanding to receive us, despite our reservation, which was not yet confirmed and paid for. Chalet is very "upmarket". It was very pleasant.
It was a great experience and it was very nice to find a pet friendly place. Our dog enjoyed the walks around the farm. The place was very clean and well equipped with everything you need for a self catering stay. The only negative is the noise from the water pump system when a tap is opened in the unit or neighbouring unit. It is okay during the day but does disturb sleep when you have neighbours using water at night. Having said that I guess it was the only solution considering it is a farm. I would still definitely recommend the accommodation.
We stayed in the stone house, nicely and comfortably furnished, with everything you need and the surroundings are beautiful. It would have been a great visit if it wasn't for the resident mouse, he climbed on everything, table, microwave, divan, etc. When I reported it on the morning of our departure it appears the owners are aware of the mouse and neglected to warn us. Apart from him eating my home baked bread and us having to throw away a whole pack of potato chips, he kept me awake with his gnawing! Even if the stone house is on one side in the field, it is not acceptable.
The unit we booked is only accessible by 4x4 vehicle and was well away from all the other units, so you are completely on your own. Wonderful view of the mountains and landscape. Had a few moose that came to visit as well. What a bonus. Unit is nicely furnished and has everything you will need.
The chalet is beautiful. However, there were large cockroaches. One got out of the linen closet when we took out the duvet for kids. Another walked over my face in bed. The pink children's duvet was dirty. Furthermore, the environment around our chalets was only dirt and thorn bushes. Not ideal for children.
Covered braai facilities will add quite a bit to the pleasant stay experience.
Best service and definitely the best place to spend the night in Meiringspoort.
Peace and quiet with a location and facilities that cater for every need. It's really something beautiful.
Will stay there again
It's the most beautiful environment with the most beautiful view from the house. We had a good time on the stoep and barbecued and were able to go for a long walk with the dogs. We will definitely visit there again! The uncle of the farm is so friendly - makes us understand that as long as we visit there, their home is our home.
We had a very nice stay. Barry received us kindly and the place is clean with everything you need. The farm is very beautiful and we walked up the mountain twice to see flowers.
Had a very nice weekend. The people on the farm are very friendly and welcoming. Nice part of the country to visit. Would recommend Meijer's Rust to anyone!
I searched long and hard to find a place for my husband’s birthday where you aren’t surrounded by other people. This is a gem of a place! We stayed in the Kliphuis at the top of a mountain. There is only one house at the top of the mountain! You are totally secluded. You need a 4x4 to get up the mountain, but it doesn’t take long and it is the most spectacular view up between the mountains. We easily went back down for breakfast in De Rust and to drive around a bit the next day. There was snow on the surrounding mountains but not too cold to enjoy the very classy outside tub! Remember to pack bubble bath! The Kliphuisie has an amazing charm to it, it is very well decorated with amazing lighting, classic furniture and a lovely fireplace inside. We went for a hike, played board games and cooked. Surrounding farm cattle was very entertaining! No cellphone reception was fantastic (if you go for a hike or drive you will get patches of reception). The kitchen was well equipped! Gas stove, massive braai, kettle and toaster. I highly recommend this little hidden getaway spot to escape from modern day world!
I would stay there again anytime. A farm and of high quality.
Interested host. Cottages near the main homestead are tastefully and durably equipped. People with a 4X4 vehicle are privileged to live at the cottage in the valley.
The stay was really pleasant. Only negative comment is the mountain trail road to drive. We are not expert 4x4 people and the route is definitely for 4x4 enthusiasts only.
Kliphuisie's location is the best place for a romantic weekend. 10 out of 10.
If you feel you need a digital detox this is the place! Beautiful farm with incredible views and amazing stars at night. No TVs, no cell reception and no WiFi - only walks, mooing cows, books and rest and in your aircon-cooled chalet. Take bottled water to drink! Barry supplies wood at R40 a bundle and there is a small Sentra shop in the town if you forget anything. Make sure to drive through the pass - just 15 minutes to the waterfall and a 200 m walk to the fall for a cold swim. Also visit the amazing shops, Grumpy Goat for beers and pizza and the Village Trading coffee spot at the Caltex in De Rust. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming.
Place is very nicely laid out, spacious and everything good quality. Nature beautiful. Nice farm feel.
We have given a 3 star rating for customer service, because upon arrival we were told by a farm worker to come back later because the owner was sleeping. We ignored this suggestion and took up our accommodation anyway. Later met the owner who was very friendly, chatty and informative and will definitely be back.
We had a great time relaxing. It was very hot and I would just like it if the swimming pool could be cleaned a bit. It is full of leeches and frogs. The children couldn't exactly swim in it.
Thank you so much for a pleasant getaway. The amenities are very, very good value for money. Extremely neat and clean.
Very friendly staff, make you feel very welcome, will definitely stay there again.
The whole farm feeling comes through, and it has its own peacefulness. It was quite hot, luckily the cottage is equipped with air conditioning. With small children, you should definitely take toys with you to keep them busy all the time. Nice walk and bike ride.
Meiringspoort is one of my favorite natural landscapes. We literally decided at the last minute to sleep over there somewhere. The transaction went smoothly and our three puppies were also welcome. It is a breathtaking environment, we were received with kindness, the cottage was beautiful. Neat, clean and has all the necessities, even air conditioning. It is picture perfect between the mountains and a lovely start to our holiday. I would recommend it over and over again. Thank you very much.
Dit was skoon, netjies en pragtig. Die uitsig as mens wakker word kan net jou dag reg begin.
The children experienced farm life firsthand. They were able to milk and feed the calf and we were taken up high in the mountains by our friendly host with a 4x4 trail to feed the cattle and elk. Wonderful experience on a beautiful farm. The accommodation is very nice and comfortable.
The accommodation was very neat and clean with luxurious finishes! We had a great time, went for a walk and swam in the farm pond!
We are very surprised by the beautiful scenery and peaceful surroundings! The units were super luxurious and comfortable! It's definitely the best value for money and we're definitely going back to experience it! Thank you very, very much!
We were greeted very kindly and had a great time camping. It was great that our two dogs were also welcome to enjoy the weekend with us. Will definitely be camping with them again.
We had a great time! Meijer's Rust is beautiful! It's neat and tasteful and so quiet. We were able to enjoy the fire and get a loving tail swing from all the farm dogs! The owners are friendly and very helpful. Would so like to go back again.
Meijer's Rus offers excellent, modern facilities. Impeccable accommodation that exceeds all expectations. Friendly and helpful host and staff. Location is perfect, just outside De Rust and at the foot of Meiringspoort. Will definitely return and stay longer (than just one night).
If you want to find your soul again, Meijer's Rust is just the place! The mountains, tranquility and breathtaking stars, will definitely visit again.
Silence and seclusion away from the noise of the town or city. I enjoyed the absolute darkness so that the starry sky can be admired. I was fortunate and had my own watchdog for the night right in front of my door.
Good over night stop on the way to Addo. Will stay longer next time.
Everything about Meijer's Rust is exactly as it should be - great. After a day of adventures in the area, you feel like you're going home to Meijer's Rust. I would perhaps only advise that families with teenagers book 2 units instead as the sleeper couches may be a bit cramped for them. I will definitely visit there again.
It was truly a unique experience - we enjoyed it incredibly much - something completely different.
Beautiful unit with excellent amenities. Will definitely book here again.
What a great time. Friendliest reception and children enjoyed the farm animals so much. We could walk far every morning and appreciate the beauty and fresh air. The cottage had everything we needed, even air conditioning.
It was great, stunning and clean. Highly recommended.
It is in a beautiful environment, scenic and the accommodation was well furnished and very neatly and stylishly furnished.
We slept over in the luxury chalet 2, which is beautifully and stylishly furnished with everything you need. Very well equipped. We could even have a delicious barbecue. Fridge was just a bit neat and directions not well laid out. Their administration needs attention as there was confusion about which unit we booked and whether payments had been made. Although we always do full payments and reservations well in advance.
We thoroughly enjoyed the night's sleepover. The unit is very luxurious, and we really appreciated the air conditioning. WiFi doesn't pick up continuously, and braai facilities could use improvement. We can definitely recommend Meijers Rust with confidence.
Stone Cottage is superbly rustic, very private and a real back to nature experience. An escape from internet and people. The outdoor bath, fantastic sinks and night skies are a real treat. Be prepared if going at the hottest time of year as for many hours of the day, it is literally too hot to move and we all battled with the heat and hot ground. Inside the cottage, it is lovely and cool. Swimming in the dams is sadly limited with the impact of the drought but the dogs had one dam with about half a metre of water to swim in which they loved. For humans, its a bit muddy but just 10 minutes drive is the Meiringspoort Waterfall which is deserted at 07:00 and became a daily ritual! Being city dogs, they battled with the many thorns and burrs but they loved the passing Eland and being able to rest fully. Barry is super and always available if you need anything from a coffee plunger to fresh towels!
Our stay was lovely and peaceful. All self-catering necessities were there. Will book with them again anytime.
What an incredible weekend in the stone cottage. The beautiful Elands just jogged past us - wonderful experience. Best part was that there was no cellphone reception near the cottage (but some a bit of reception between the mountains when we went for a walk, as well as near the gate as you drove to the main house). We enjoyed the outdoor braai area very much! The braai area and bathroom section are in view of each other, so I will only recommend this cute cottage for a getaway with your spouse/partner. The road to the stone house is pretty rough, so a high vehicle will definitely be needed. The host was prepared to drive us to the cottage with his own bakkie. Our two dogs have enjoyed it just as much as we do. We will certainly be back. Thank you for an unforgettable weekend.
We really enjoyed it on the farm. Beautiful chalets with air conditioning. You can walk around the farm and experience the most beautiful natural scenes - thank you very much!
Very nice old stone house with character and to lie out of the bath and admire the air space was a new experience.
The stone house was a good choice for us, as well as with our two dogs who are used to farm life, but still had fun frolicking around. Nice walking routes to choose from from the cottage and it is secluded from the rest of the guest farm, so very private.
Meijer's Rust is a beautiful farm in the mountains just outside Meiringspoort. The chalets have beautiful bathrooms and there is everything you would need for a comfortable weekend in the mountains. Breathtaking scenery!
Just needs a TV and oven. No cell phone reception.
Hospitality 10 out of 10. Unit definitely lacks pest control. Bunk bed must be serviced or taken apart for sure. Makes a lot of noise and disturbs your sleep.
Friendly reception. Beautiful location. Big room, clean and neat. Bathroom is exceptional.
I would recommend this place to anyone who loves farm life!
Lovely farm with very friendly owners and the finishing in the units is of very high standards.
We were kindly received, everything is very tidy and tasteful. Residential units are equipped with everything one needs. It's a nice environment and quiet. We went for a nice walk, relaxed and rested. Will definitely recommend to friends and family and will use it again.
Beautiful, clean, tidy, stylish, well-equipped accommodation in breathtaking surroundings.
Wonderful hosts, wonderful lodges/chalet, wonderful location at the mouth of the incredible Meieringspoort (and its astonishing waterfall and pool), right near the charming De Rust town. Highly recommended!
The place is luxurious and tidy. We only recommend that the loose mats and the upholstered corner bench be properly vacuumed between visits. We would also like 2 separate duvets for the kids instead of a blanket. It's incredibly warm and people prefer a duvet over the texture of a winter blanket.
I would like to thank Vivenne for the amazing hospitality. My family and I spent the Christmas Eve as well as Christmas day there. It was the closest we could be. We had board games handy and played all through the night. It was so surreal to just be out in nature with no distraction of our teenage daughter being on the phone. Our 8 year old had a blast, he quickly warmed up to the dogs. He is an outdoor type of kid, so I appreciated how they accommodated all his questions. It is an awesome place to just get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Perfect for weekend getaways.
We had a nice stay and really enjoyed the tranquility and views. We were also happy about the air conditioning! Thank you very much!
Beautiful, tranquil, no signal for smartphones. Kick out your shoes and forget about the outside world for a little while! Wonderful!
The units are neat, well equipped and tastefully furnished. It was wonderful to sit on the porch and watch the moon rise over the mountains. It was also nice to wake up to the sounds of the animals and birds. We had a nice rest and would definitely recommend Meijer's Rust.
The rural setting was just what we needed to escape our hectic lives for a few days. So poor cell phone reception was a bonus! The Chalet we stayed in is luxuriously equipped with everything you could need.
Definitely worth it. Will be returning. Very peaceful and neat little place equipped with all the necessities. Friendly and helpful owner. Can really recommend this little place. Will also definitely be returning there again.
Very spacious and neat accommodation with nice views over the farm. Bathroom large and luxurious. Owner was very hospitable and helpful. Would probably prefer blinds to double glazed doors. Had a great stay and can recommend Meijer's Rust.
The farm is beautifully situated and the farm life makes it that much more beautiful. The farm and the houses are very cold in the winter but still nice. The owners are very friendly and helpful. All amenities are available that are required. The stone house looks like a hit and will definitely come and try it in the summer.
Nice peaceful place to sleep after a long journey.
Perfect house, starry sky that feels like you can touch it, incredible silence, most beautiful fynbos/succulent plants in the field, outdoor bath and shower is an experience, even washing dishes doesn't bother you because the sink has a "view"! 300+ photos taken.
Prefer Stone Cottage over more luxurious ones which is close to the farm house.
We really enjoyed the different hiking trails on the farm. The views over the mountains are beautiful. The chalets were very well equipped and comfortable.
We really enjoyed the stay, just a shame that we didn't know ahead of time that we had to bring our own drinking water.
A unique little house! Very pretty. Something else. Guests have to understand that the bathroom and kitchen are on the veranda, however. So, it's almost like camping. The house's doors also don't close properly. We had a mouse in our room that gnawed a hole in my handbag. But it was part of that unique experience! All that really bothered me was the worker and his tractor. The cottage is so private and secluded, (that's exactly why we booked it). But now it has lost some of its charm because if you need to use an open bathroom you do not want to be close to other people. So, that was a pity. So, if nobody is around, I recommend it. Just remember the bathroom and kitchen is on the veranda.
Definitely a summer venue.
We found the chalet very classy and tasteful. The interior is furnished with taste. The bathroom extremely stylish. But two major annoyances made our stay unpleasant. 1) Why is there no curtain in front of the double glass doors? Since the kitchen and living area and bedroom are one big room, there is no privacy. People walk by outside the chalet and look in through the glass doors and we felt extremely uncomfortable. 2) We arrived with 3 days worth of meat and other fresh stuff and planned to keep cold in the fridge. To our shock we discovered there was only a small bar fridge hidden in a cupboard. Not even a third of the food fit in the fridge. And the freezer was frozen so shut, we couldn't even get it open. Really been a bad frustration. Generally speaking, the stay on the farm was exactly that: there were cattle and you could clearly hear their bellowing; there were horses and you could also hear them neighing. There are about 7 dogs and you could hear them too. No problem, it's a farm. The view and sunsets are lovely and we had a great barbecue on the veranda.
I have to admit that we were somewhat disappointed when reaching Meijer's Rust, as it didn't match the pictures. The unit was beautiful and the view breathtaking. But the drought in the area is sure taking its toll and we can only hope and pray that there will be relief. We rested really well and would definitely recommend Meijer's Rust. Would also gladly go back there.
It was the perfect overnight stay with an amazing sunset in Meiringspoort. I also see it as the ideal holiday destination, especially for nature lovers and those wanting to switch off from the busy city life. It is close to the beach and other surrounding attractions. Our family recommends Meijers Rust wholeheartedly.
It's been a long time since I've had a stay so nice and quiet. And the weather was fantastic.
Unbelievable! Quiet and tranquil with the sounds of the cows, birds and nature. It was nice to walk with the dogs on a farm. Thank you, Venus, for walking with us. The accommodation is outstanding! Will definitely go again. Sit back and relax.
We are not big on primitive camping, but wanted to go to the mountains for a few days and we were very pleasantly surprised by the little farm house with all the necessary facilities and 5-star bathroom. A bonus was that there was no cell reception. The farm is beautifully looked after and the dams are full of water, the dogs came to visit in the evenings and we could even feed Liefie, the eland. We also had a lovely walk in the mountains. The farm is right next to the Meiringspoort Road and is easily accessed. Can definitely recommend Meijer's Rust.
We stayed in the Kliphuisie which is on one side and isolated in the mountain. Everything you need is there. Vivienne and Barry went out of their way to make it an unforgettable experience for us. A must for any couple who wants to experience simplicity and tranquility in nature. We'll be back for sure!
What an incredibly nice house with a spacious master bedroom with a nice comfortable bed and sofa and air conditioner. The most delicious spacious porch where you can look out on the Swartberge the cattle and calves and moose and where you can have a great time. Nice to be able to walk on the farm and drive 4x4. Horses come to graze outside the cottage. In the morning you wake up to bird sounds and farm animals. What a privilege when a moose eats out of your hand. Fantastic.
It was definitely a fantastic experience. The people are very friendly and the children thoroughly enjoyed the farm life and farm animals! I would definitely recommend it!
It was one of the nicest and most beautiful places we have ever vacationed. The farm animals give so much character to the farm. The Milk-barn is very nice and tidy with a nice stoepie where you can barbecue and have a good time. We really enjoyed it and were very pleased with how beautiful the farm is and how friendly and considerate the owners are. Meijer's Rust is definitely a place I can recommend to anyone, and we will definitely visit again.
It was the perfect weekend with my husband! So romantic and everything was delicious!
Lovely cottage, unique setting. The only thing that I would change if possible is cell reception and or WiFi, but that is not possible because it is in the mountains.
It was quite an experience for the kids to be able to interact with animals so nearby. I might have liked them to see a bit more and the sheep possibly, but with it being a working farm we could not ask for more. The accommodation was very comfortable and the aircon lovely on the cold nights with hot chocolate that worked perfectly. Thanks so much for having us, we never had a chance to say thanks when we left.
Amenities are very good. Reception can improve. Would recommend Meijer's Rust.
A once in a lifetime experience.
Wonderful farm atmosphere with clean rooms and complete kitchen, all the rooms have air conditioning - lovely. Friendly hosts. Will book again anytime.
Beautiful view from the camping spot, but the place and the road to it need attention. It takes forever to get there, only suitable for 4x4 vehicles and unless they do something about the vegetation next to the road you will scratch our car.
Fantastic, friendly hospitality! Highly recommended. If you love the outdoors and nature then this is the place to be! The peace and beauty in the mountains is unbeatable. Staying in the Kliphuis was an absolute treat! A place where children can get back to nature. Can't wait to go back again.
Neat, very comfortable, air conditioning was very handy. Host and family friendly.
Beautiful accommodation, beautifully furnished. Will be able to stay even longer next time to explore more of the small towns in the area. Parking was just a little difficult with our pram.
We had a wonderful rest and relaxation in nature. The bellowing of the cattle and the moose is very special.
I would have stayed much longer if I had known beforehand how peaceful and beautiful it is there. It's luxury over. The cattle, horses and especially dogs give character to the farm.
Vivienne and Barry immediately made us feel at home and gave us the opportunity to share fully in their little paradise. The children enjoyed the farm pond, cattle, hounds and horses and the short walk up Interstate 5 provides a fantastic view of the farm and surroundings. The unit was spacious, neat, clean and tastefully laid out. The kitchen was properly equipped and a braai place is available. A porch with table and chairs allows one to sit back and enjoy the view of the farm activities. Meijer's Rust is perfectly located as a base for exploring the area, but the view itself was one of the highlights. Summary: Drinking water, coal and meat, and something to keep the mosquitoes away.
It is a beautiful place and the facilities are really very nice. It is self-catering and you must also bring your own hand soaps and coffee. But it was all nicely conveyed to us ahead of time. The children could feed the horses. There is no cell phone reception near the rooms so that was bliss!
