Melkhoutkloof is a well-appointed B&B with beautiful views of the ocean. It also represents good value for money. However, my wife and I had to cut our breakfast short due to the intrusive actions of the host. Owners of B&Bs must learn that, unless invited, they do not have to hover around their guests all the time and make small talk. To add insult to injury, this was yet another case where the hosts assumed that because we were white and Afrikaans-speaking, we shared their racist views of the world. This is deeply insulting.

At first sight, it was not my cup of tea, until our hosts served our first breakfast. The presentation and taste were some of the best I've ever had. The family atmosphere they created with all visitors at breakfast is unheard of. I would recommend them to any person who is looking for that home away from home experience. Their attention to detail to the finer things in life is not something that you will get at a 5-star hotel. Their friendly manner of interacting with their guests is also something that is amazing.

The WiFi is very slow and a frustration. The TV screen in the room we slept in is as big as a small computer's screen and installed in the wrong place. It's very difficult and uncomfortable to watch TV.

Absolute winner: JB and Adri are most gracious hosts. The guest house was luxurious and homely (home away from home!) - breakfasts, rooms and communal facilities are all excellent and the house is spotlessly clean. The garden is a winner - every morning we woke up to the singing of so many birds, and we were also lucky to see the Lourie coming for his daily feed. We definitely recommend staying in Melkhoukloof Guest House with a great ocean view!
