We really enjoyed the sleepover. It is so peaceful and quiet, very convenient to also be able to get dinner. This dinner was top notch, we ate deliciously. The hostess is accommodating and very friendly. We stayed in the cottage and it was better than what can be seen in the pictures. The cottage was very clean, tidy, comfortable. It was a treat to sleep there on our long way to Mozambique. I will stay there again next time.
We were 3 adults coming from Pretoria on our way to the Garden Route. Graaff-Reinet was our goal on day one and it was also 40 degrees outside on that afternoon. We found the farm very easily and got to our cottage/house with simple instructions from the host. She told us to keep the windows and doors closed to keep the house cool - and it was just that, when we got inside - cool! And it was the perfect time to take a quick nap, on very comfortable beds with air conditioners on. The kitchen and the rest of the house were so well stocked and equipped that we did not ask for anything more! That peace and quiet and fantastic scenery when the sun starts setting and you've lit the fire cannot be found anywhere else than in the Karoo! We bought Karoo lamb chops in town which is not too far from the farm, that was the perfect meal for the evening. Boardgames and magazines were there if we needed entertainment. The hosts were very helpful without being in the way and we had a very friendly farewell when we left the morning. We all said next time we might as well spend two nights in this simple, star-filled-sky, peaceful noises and comfortable haven!

Melrose Guest Farm is a great place to unwind after a long day's travel. It is very peaceful. Johan and Hanfi go out of their way to make you feel at home. The dinner that was served was great. The place is very neat and clean.

Lovely tranquility of the farm with everything you need. Spandaukop self-catering feels like a home away from home, right down to a flashlight being provided and headlamp for barbecuing. Slept well with no disturbances. Ideal stopover after a long drive.
Nice stay, but there is a water pump to keep the water pressure right. The pump sits just behind the bedroom wall. Makes a terrible noise when it goes on and it happens every 3 to 5 min. Makes you crazy. But the young man there says you get used to it later! Well, we didn't get used to it. Sleepless nights. The cause is a leaky pipe at the toilet which causes the pressure to drop all the time and the pump to turn on continuously. They put a bucket under the pipe that overflows and you have to empty it. The wood of the baseboard has almost rotted behind the toilet. Doesn't look like they plan to fix it. This is the cottage. Furthermore, the necessary facilities are there. No TV. Mobile phone reception very poor.
Very quiet and peaceful with very fresh Karoo air.

It was incredibly beautiful, very spacious rooms, delicious food and the tranquility makes you feel very comfortable. Children had a great time running around and playing on the farm - we will definitely spend the night there again.
The accommodation, food and visiting on the farm were fantastic. Our host and hostess do nothing wrong. Our three-year-old boy really enjoyed the animals on the farm and beautiful garden.
The self-catering cottage is very comfortably furnished. The farm environment is just what one needs to take a break and clear one's head. It's definitely on my "to do again" list.
The couple that run this place are wonderful people and most hospitable. The setting is beautiful and has wonderful views of the surrounding fields and mountains. Very peaceful and definitely worth a visit.
