339 guests' feedbackExcellent service, very tidy. TV not working and WiFi not on standard.
We were the only guests in the hotel, but still all the staff were there to welcome us and stand ready. Thanks again to Merino Junction for your hospitality and care!
Great stay and very nice too.
Had a good stay. Good food and friendly people. Will see me again.
Great stay, helpful staff, clean room with comfortable bed and lots of space. Lamb neck dinner was also delicious.
Lovely furnished spacious room, beautiful, neat and clean. Service was very friendly, and dinner was fragrantly prepared, as one would expect in the heart of the Northern Cape.
Nice rooms, good quality towels. They may please pay attention to the bed linen's quality. Beautiful building and gardens.
It was everything anyone looking for overnight facilities could ask for and more!
Very nice stay! Clean and tidy, friendly staff, everything we needed. Linens may need some updating.
Friendly people on duty. Nice food.
Value for money, clean and safe.
Karoo winters are cold, but we slept comfortably and were received very kindly. We will definitely come again in the future.
Very nice room, nice clean and the food is very good.
Yes, but stairs are a problem. We are elderly and struggle with stairs.
Clean and friendly with efficient staff.
Excellent. Great for overnight stay. Good food and friendly staff.
The bed was comfortable and everything was clean and tidy, but the toilet was broken and you don't put guests in a 'closed' hotel!
Very nice, have stayed there many times. Staff are so helpful.
Fantastic, well-respected.
Great stay! Staff hospitality was top notch!
Thank you very much, we had a good night's sleep. Very clean, beautiful building, well located.
Place is neat. Beds slept very well. Vehicle was safely behind a fence.
The staff are very friendly and only want to help. They are excellent at their jobs. Delicious dinners.
A great stay, and the meal was really good at the restaurant. It was a great value for money overall.
Everything is clean and tidy.
Neat and clean, would definitely recommend.
Enjoyed our stay there and will definitely recommend the perfect place for a small family to stay overnight will be back in December, see you soon.
Would help if we are informed ahead of time that there is no generator or solar available during loadshedding.
I would recommend this place to anyone with a family, simply amazing, a very nice place, great people.
Was impressed with the place. Nice stopover, good food, place with lots of history and stories. Spent too short there.
We had a very nice stay. The hotel's restaurant was great. The deli for breakfast was delicious. The room was clean and beautifully decorated.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. Place is clean and tidy. Had a great sleep. Food in the restaurant is a must, very tasty.
The room was clean and spacious. Very good value for money and we had a great meal in their bistro too.
Very friendly service, room was neat and clean. Breakfast in the Deli was delicious. We will definitely stay there again.
The hotel is neat and the staff is friendly. The restaurant at the hotel is comfortable and the food was very good.
Everything about Merino Junction was just perfect! Would recommend to anyone. Will stay there again for sure! Friendly and fast service!
We were disappointed that the bar and the hotel's bistro are closed on a Monday night, but had a bite to eat at the Kingswill Bistro.
A grand old building, lovingly refurbished. Loved the old-world charm. Wish the restaurant was open but unfortunately closed on Mondays. The room was huge with its own kitchenette. Could have stayed another day. Will definitely return.
Service was good, staff were friendly. Neat and clean. Was able to relax and enjoyed it immensely.
We were so incredibly impressed with the stay. So neat and modern, food was incredibly tasty and delivered right to your room after a long day on the road. Parking ensures very safe. Do not hesitate to reserve your room.
Convenient stop with restaurant. These are tasty, but unexpectedly expensive for the small portions! Alarms woke us up after load shedding and we decided to leave at 3am. The room, bed, bathroom and WiFi are comfortable. I would recommend Merino Junction to anyone using the N12 to or from the Cape, even if it is not half way.
Easy to clock in and out if arriving late or needing to leave early.
Had a great stay and ate well at the Bistro.
After a long journey we were warmly welcomed in Victoria West by all the staff at Merino Junction. The rooms were spacious and very clean. We enjoyed wine in the bar and had dinner in their restaurant. The next morning everyone was well rested and ready for the road again.
Short stay, traveling through.
We are on our way to Nieuwoudtville to see flowers.
We were received very kindly.
Staff friendly and engaging. It would have been lovely to have had the restaurant open for us to have dinner. We will be back.
Hospitality was top notch. Everything was pretty neat and I had a nice stay. Could also park my vehicle safely behind closed gate under cover.
It was very pleasant to spend the night with you for the last time in the beautiful Karoo and the lamb was delicious. We waited a bit long for our food, almost felt like we were a second serving and the food had to be cooked from scratch and some of it wasn't quite tender. But everything was otherwise very nice with you. Thanks for the lamp for the loadshedding, it just helped a lot.
Easy to reach destination. Neat and spacious.
Very good service and safe.
Merino Junction is a timeless hotel with a combination of modern and old-fashioned chic. The rooms are beautifully tidy, the beds sleep well and are comfortable. And the on-site restaurants make delicious country farm food. The staff is very friendly, patient and helpful. There is just not a playroom like in the pictures.
We did yes, they helped us out on very short notice. We just slept and drove again before 7 the next morning. Thank you very much.
We slept and ate well. Nice place and nice staff.
Room was clean, hospitality is good.
The town is not so pleasant.
The room was neat and clean. The receptionist specially made coffee for us during load shedding and brought it to the room. The bed was deliciously warm.
The beds were extremely comfortable and the surrounding was quiet.
Stylish old building. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable and tidy with all the necessary facilities. The dinner menu is a little limited but the price and friendly, informal service make up for it.
We decided to take the alternative route back to Gauteng from the Cape and were caught in a rain storm. Tired of driving we took a chance with a last-minute booking in the quaint little town of Victoria West. It is a picturesque little town straight out of the history books. The room was comfortable, clean and reflected old style charm. We were very happy.
Very nice place to stay half way between Cape and Gauteng.
Staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant and food are good.
Breakfast at the Deli was an added plus.
1. The meal was slightly cold when it was placed in front of me, but was warmed up without delay. 2. The old-fashioned doors have a window at the top through which the corridor's light shines. Although I took the initiative to turn off the light, management should make a plan to cover the ventser with something.
Would strongly recommend the owners revise their kitchen, as we waited 2 hours for our food order. It was then sent to our room as we had left our table. On taking the matter further with the manager, we were informed that the other guests had pre-ordered their food "in the bar". This excuse we find totally unacceptable in this day and age.
I paid R145 for mutton curry which had two small pieces of meat in it. Very disappointed in the food.
It's the 2nd time in 4 months that we sleep here. It was really very peaceful and clean and the charm of the Karoo is reflected in everything.
Tidy. Clean. Friendly.
The hotel has been very nicely restored. Is clean and tidy. Very safe.
Very nice stay, only sorry did not know restaurant was not open on Monday.
Second time we stayed at Merino Junction. Characterful accommodation and venue. Rooms equipped with everything necessary for overnight stay. Dinner in the restaurant is excellent but get in early as specialist dishes run out quickly. No electric blanket but A/C for heating. Was freezing and load shedding at 20h00.
Worth it. Clean and a nice atmosphere.
Don't judge a book by its cover. Very peaceful staff, we arrived late, they just prepared us a delicious meal "during loadshedding" at their Bistro. We rested well and were able to leave early again.
Nice clean rooms and safe parking. Will visit again.
It's the second year that we sleep here on the way back from the Kruger National Park. Last year was also on a Saturday. There was also a function (birthday party), but just after 21:00 they stopped making noise. The staff are friendly and helpful, and there is secure parking behind the hotel.
Clean, neat and tidy hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Sadly not much extra light or heat when loadshedding has been around for many years. Some rechargeable lights and a gas heater in the bar would have helped.
No one at reception when we arrived at 19h30 - our friend had collected the keys for us. Receptionist said they had waited, but we had arrived later than they anticipated.
Shower drain was blocked, but otherwise, it was a good overnight stay.
The stay was fine. No one was at the reception when we arrived and the entrance was locked. We left very early the next day and were not sure on how to return our keys.
Confirmation said book in between 12hoo and 21hoo. Arrived at 2pm 0n Sunday hotel locked up and nobody in sight. Phoned contact no and manager arrived to let us in we were the only guests for the night and were alone in the hotel until it opened ( bar at 5pm and Bistro 6pm) Most unsettling after having travelled all day. We booked early in July and could have been informed of the situation, we most probably would have cancelled and found a B&B.
Would recommend they upgrade their rooms.
Very shabby, not well looked after at all, dirty and falling apart.
The bedroom was nice and clean, but I would not recommend the dining room. Quality is extremely poor for what you pay with poor management.
We were told they could not open the restaurant/bar for 3 people as the times were said. It didn't open until 5 o'clock and they rushed us to finish ordering food and drinks to close again. Couldn't watch rugby except in double storey room. Impossible with a 2 year old child.
With load shedding food takes a long time but other than that had a good evening.
Menu is limited, but adequate.
We left a pillow behind and the hotel staff called us and made arrangements for us to pick it up on the way back from the Cape. Excellent customer service.
Rooms are neat and ideal for a family. You and your car sleep safely!
Beautiful village for overnight in a beautiful environment, beautiful clean village. People care about their village much better than other parts of our country.
It was the first time I used this facility and the experience I received makes it easy to consider it again and recommend to friends and family. Big ups to the staff that made us feel very welcome and the room was spacious. I have never felt so safe at a place. Thank and keep up the great work.
See stars.
Friendly service and good food. Nice and spacious room with a lovely, large bed. Would stay there again anytime.
The people there are very friendly.
Friendly welcome. Beds slept heavenly!
I will stay there again for sure. Breakfast and dinner are on the same premises which is very convenient. Together with good accommodation, it is the ideal overnight stop.
We had a great time at Merino Junction. Lovely rooms and good food in the restaurant. Hospitality and nostalgia of old-fashioned hotel. Perfect for a night's sleep or to explore the surroundings.
The friendliest staff, with the cosiest of accommodation. So heartwarming to arrive, after a long trip to be greeted so warmly and able to enjoy a lovely dinner in the restaurant - couldn't have asked for more. Well done.
My wife and I traveled to Cape Town from Pretoria. We spent the night in Victoria West at Merino Junction. Best decision one can make to sleep halfway through. Merino Junction has clean and tidy rooms. Friendly service and safe parking.
Merino Junction offers comfortable overnight accommodation. We booked a family room on our trip from Cape Town to Pretoria and the rooms are very spacious and comfortable. A real experience to be able to sleep in such a historic hotel. The dinner was fantastic and I would definitely recommend the karoo lamb dishes, portions are also big enough for the hungry traveler after a long day on the road. All meals offer value for money. The service is good and friendly, as you can expect in the countryside!
Hotel room is clean, spacious and very tidy. Their restaurant served delicious food and everyone was very friendly!
Delicious food and friendly service. The bed ensures a good night's rest.
We spent a Sunday night at Merino Junction on our way home from the Kgalagadi. The hotel is very old but beautiful and our room was large and comfortable. We enjoyed a lovely dinner in the dining room with its lovely old pressed ceilings and chandeliers. We also had a delicious breakfast at the coffee shop before our departure. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Nice "old world" hotel with a very nice atmosphere. Dinner served was top notch.
Had a great time and slept well in the cool aircon room. Had a nice meal and played pool. Will come again when we drive that way.
Colonial time hotel. Very beautiful, well furnished, perfect. What a pleasant surprise.
Good service and a beautiful room.
Nice sleep over there. Friendly and hospitable staff. The meal we had there was particularly tasty and value for money. Really neat and clean.
Not sure what we would be getting, especially when we realised it was the old town hotel. We were more than surprised, we had an excellent room with all amenities more than suitable for a family of 5. One can see that a lot of money have been spent to rejuvenate and restore the old building (more money will probably still be required), but they did an superb job already to make one feel at home and part of the town history. The service was top notch with staff really going out of their way to make you feel welcome!
Load power affects not only electricity, but also water supply. Reception should just mention it to travelers.
Nice place to stay! Would really recommend!
See above.
Very nice overnight place.
Nice rooms, good view over the mountain and could sleep quietly and peacefully.
We were not there long but for the short time we were there we had no complaints.
The stay was very pleasant. The rooms are nice. The staff - all of them were very nice and provided excellent service. The dinner was very good. The only real issue was that although the aircons seem to work, they are underpowered and do not warm up the room. But electric blankets do compensate. We will stay here again in future.
Was a very nice evening and great rest before the way back home. Room was nice and tidy. Beds lovely.
Wonderful nostalgic era that is almost over. Beautiful old hotel. not perfect on cleanliness but acceptable in a scarce-water area. Staff were friendly and very helpful.
We slept great. Had a very nice breakfast at the Deli. Just a few points to improve on. The children were in one room and they complained that there was a slight smell in their room. There was also no soap in the bathrooms, only empty containers.
Please visit the Karoo Rus Deli behind the hotel. Very nice food.
It's quiet, there's everything you need and I slept great.
Would have liked to walk in town and explore a bit but the in-your-face begging situation makes us prefer to stay out of town in the future. Sympathizes with unemployment and poverty but it prevents tourist from enjoying it.
We had a nice stay and the place is well furnished. Did notice dust and think the place could do with a good spring clean.
After a long journey, we were able to unpack and relax. Kids were able to catch a swim before we sat down for dinner. Snacks were also available. Service was friendly. Difficult to find the place, the name refers to hotel built on the wall.
Little bit of play space for a 2 year old, but otherwise lovely.
Biggest complaint is that we were bitten by fleas, managed to catch and kill one. Furthermore, the mattress was slightly hollow and no water was available in the bathroom on load shedding the next morning. One could handle if informed in advance. Air conditioner was a big plus and stay was otherwise pleasant.
Staff friendly, helpful, hospitable. Meal in restaurant, excellent quality and tastefully prepared.
Merino Junction is cozy and beautiful. Very well located and food was delicious.
This was one of the most beautiful old fashioned hotels we have ever stayed in. The staff was very hospitable and we had a nice stay.
They were very friendly and the room was nice and big and clean.
Nothing flash, a good value simple option travelling back to Joburg from Cape Town.
We spent the night there as a family on our way home. Very friendly welcome. Rooms very neat and spacious.
Comfortable and neat.
The stay was okay. Just recommend a type of outside small play area for children.
Beautiful hotel with the friendliest receptionist. Food at the Bistro of the best!
Received friendly service.
On the way back from the Kruger National Park, slept there. Everything was neat and clean and worked. There was an 80th birthday party but we were tired enough that the little noise didn't bother us.
Restaurant was then the night we were staying over, which was a disappointment and I would have liked to have known that when we made our reservation.
A good stopover between Jhb and CT.
Stayed over half way from Cape Town, room comfortable, restaurant BIG disappointment.
No bedside light worked. 1 without bulb with broken plug. Another's switch only makes contact occasionally. No working light in bathroom. Wi-Fi connection erratic.
The bathroom, and kitchen sink were relatively dirty in terms of scale deposits etc. The shower, sinks and even the kettle had some problems. It puts you off a bit. But the rest of the place was very beautiful. It would be very valuable to clean and scrub the areas properly before guests enter the room. The bit of dirt makes one wonder how clean the rest is. The restaurant was excellent, the food was very good.
I would recommend it for a quick overnight stay, don't expect too much.
Would not recommend Merino Junction.
Very neat and clean accommodation.
We slept wonderfully peacefully and will definitely stay here again in the future.
Very good overnight accommodation with spacious rooms, good service and good food at the right price!
Very friendly reception.
It's the 2nd time that my 2 children have spent the night there. Very nice and tidy, value for money.
Thank you very much for very friendly service. Our room was neat and wonderfully cool. We could rest well after a long day on the road and our car was safely behind a gate. We also didn't need to drive for something to eat, we could have a nice dinner on the premises. We will definitely come again.
The hotel has been superbly restored. The reception was generous and warm, even though we were late the lady waited for us on a Saturday evening. The beds were top quality, the room and bedding were crisp and clean, the shower welcoming. The parking space was large and sufficient for my pickup truck with a large stroller. Safe behind closed gates. I will stay here again any time I come back or drive down to the Cape. Victoria West as a town, with its beautiful architecture and restored historic buildings absolutely charmed me. It's beautifully clean, without pollution and the streets are wide, just like the vast Karoo plains. It's also exactly halfway to the Cape.
Peaceful, quiet, neat place. Will definitely stay there again.
Staff are friendly and helpful. Was a feast to spend the night here.
Laundry was done for free! Wonderful, friendly service.
Nell, our hostess, went out of her way to make our visit unforgettable. (Level 4 takes its toll.) It was apparently the coldest in years in Victoria West when we were there, but we slept wonderfully warm.
This newly upgraded accommodation not only offers good accommodation, but the people who work there are extremely friendly and helpful, thank you for that! The facilities are all as previously advertised and of the best quality. We would love to stay there again anytime.
Reception was friendly and helpful. Room was clean and tidy. Meal in hotel restaurant was delicious. Many thanks to Aretha.
We slept very well and are very happy that the hotel let us check in after we arrived a little late due to roadworks. The place is ideal for getting a good night's rest after a long journey.
We stopped in Victoria West on our long way back to Gauteng. Merino Junction has been very nicely upgraded and was very convenient for us as a family and also very safe.
Had a lovely stay and everything was perfect. Nice facilities ensuring a comfortable stay. Food was amazing.
The hotel is very nice. Very friendly service.
Like stepping back in history. The place is beautifully restored and very well maintained. Staff very friendly and helpful. Will use the restaurant next time, but had a great roast.
Merino junction is beautiful and neat. Food was delicious and people very friendly. Will definitely stay there again.
We were kindly welcomed by Gerda. Our rooms were clean and tidy. The decor is beautiful and we loved the old wooden floors. The pool is also beautifully clean. Unfortunately we did not eat in the restaurant, but feedback from others was that the food is very tasty. We will definitely stay there again. Beautiful village with friendly people.
Very hospitable and helpful. Very pleasant people. Delicious fried and stayed.
Cool down in the swimming pool, neat and clean room with crisp bedding, savor good cooking and hospitality that makes you feel at home, as well as secure parking.
It was a lovely stopover on the way to the sea!
Good, friendly service and beautiful rooms. Water pressure in shower is a problem.
Had very friendly service on arrival. The management made us feel very welcome. Our 2 year old enjoyed playing with the dog (Lady) a lot. Safe parking. Rooms are very clean and neat and beds very comfortable. Very peaceful. I would like to recommend block out curtains (it is a personal preference of ours to have a dark room), but we had a good rest anyway. Most delicious lamb neck for dinner at the bistro. Limited menu and wine list but top quality and very friendly service. I can recommend the place for sure and would like to return.
See stars.
Good and safe accommodation.
Dinner, accommodation and breakfast - all on the same premises. Was delicious! Karoo hospitality!
Well located in Victoria West. Very friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant on the premises also to be recommended.
Accommodation was very neat and clean. Nice relaxed and peaceful visit.
Friendly staff willing to go the extra mile for the guests - shame we couldn't visit the restaurant and bar, would have made the experience more special.
Beautiful old historic hotel in Victoria West that has been converted into a user friendly building that provides a great destination for visitors. The character of the building has been retained and the theme of sheep and wool farming aspects, which still form an important and integral part of the area, has been successfully embodied in the decor. Beautiful antiques and structures have been retained and selective exhibits have been added to create a delightful atmosphere. The rooms and bedding have been renewed and offer good facilities for an overnight stay. The characterful dining room is cozy and creates a wonderful atmosphere. The lamb neck dish was a meal to remember forever. The staff are all friendly and helpful and proud of their work and workplace. Vehicles are parked safely behind security gates under canopies on site. Many beautiful and historic buildings within walking distance from the hotel. We really enjoyed it all!
We really enjoyed our stay, it was only 1 night. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We really received very good service. Thank you.
We asked to sit and eat on the upper veranda, and the staff immediately accommodated our request. I would stay there again.
After we had a short walk at the only open restaurant in Victoria West, the receptionist at Merino Junction went out of her way to arrange meat and barbecue sandwiches for us.
Everything you need for an overnight stay.
Well priced and comfortable bedrooms - nice linen. Bathroom needs some maintenance, but otherwise a decent place for an overnight!
On our arrival we were told that that the restaurant and bar was closed for the evening. They have recommended another restaurant, however we felt that this should have been communicated to us before our arrival. We booked with them to spent the evening at the hotel, have a drink in the bar and a meal in their restaurant. It not great to stay over at a place where there are no other guests and only 2 staff members on duty. Their receptionist was very friendly and helpful and their service was good, but this was not what we expected when we made the booking.
Town is very dirty and deteriorating.
Very nicely furnished with its own dining area which makes it ideal for travellers.
They may still lack staff. Food ran out and was not enough for all the overnight guests. They might plan better if they ask guests whether they want to eat at the hotel or not. The place is very spacious and value for money.
Some maintenance required, but overall okay.
Stay only one night, enjoy staying in this beautiful hotel.
Merino Junction is a gem in Victoria West. The old building will probably be able to tell many stories. Rooms are comfortable and tidy.
Was just a stopover on the way to the Cape.
Nice place to rest and spend the night.
Thanks for the help with bags.
Very neat, comfortable and clean. Beautiful building, especially the wooden staircase in the portal! Staff very friendly and helpful. The Karoo Deli's breakfast is just not appetizing at all. Will definitely stay there again, but eat elsewhere.
Very average stay at this hotel. It was clean and tidy and had a good bed in the room. Ladies in the Brasserie restaurant were friendly. When we went to have breakfast at the Spot behind the hotel (same owners I suspect) it was one of the worst experiences I’ve had in a very long time. The food was good and the cook was friendly but she was the only one. The waiter and management treated us like we were a major inconvenience to their morning. It is the first time in years that I have not tipped someone on a bill. Merino Junction, those guys are ruining it for you.
The stay and food was great, but marred by the fact that I did not feel safe in terms of Covid measures. The owner or hostess that checked us in was not wearing a mask and neither was any waitstaff in the restaurant. As a destination that many use as a stop over, I expected better cleanliness and caution for Covid measures.
The rooms were very neat, aircon worked well and everything was very clean. However, we felt funny when we got there. The name of the place is on a very small cross board, almost invisible. Furthermore, all the lights were off and no one behind the counter. It was a strange experience, and you don't want to feel like you're arriving at a haunted house when you book an old hotel.
Merino Junction's web photos are misleading and taken just after it was redone. Staff not very helpful and dressed in sweatpants and patches. They did not have water that night from our accommodation, and transferred us to another accommodation nearby. It was unforeseen and I understand that, but my feedback is more about the cleanliness and service received.
We had a great time relaxing.
Service is good, accommodation is very clean, very comfortable. Everything you need for a comfortable overnight stay on the road! Will definitely stay there again and recommend them to everyone!
I appreciate the simplicity, but also the care with which the rooms are presented. Very cute place.
It was a very nice visit, the nice swimming that we were able to fit in was very nice for the children, and of course the delicious meal that we were able to enjoy that evening, from the top shelves. It was a great experience as we had not been to Victoria West before. Thank you very much for you at Merino.
Will definitely stay there again.
Very nice will come again.
I can confidently recommend the Merino Junction as the safe country feel and atmosphere can make anyone feel very much at home.
We would book again at Merino Junction anytime.
Definitely value for money! Very neat accommodation. Everything you need.
Clean and neat with Karoo hospitality. Delicious dinner with Gerda, Patricia and Gerrit, the friendly staff.
Friendly service, spacious rooms, clean and tidy, fantastic food, lovely swimming pool with cafe, truly an oasis/little paradise. We will definitely want to come back again.
Air conditioning. Comfortable beds. Good food. Friendly service. Nice environment.
It was perfect for a quick sleepover. All that bothered us were the many mosquitoes, so just pack something, otherwise the place was beautiful and perfect.
Will use again in the future.
Really good accommodation in the hot Karoo! Air conditioning is very important and allowed us to survive in temperature of 38°C. Can really recommend! Staff are friendly and helpful!
Nice and comfortable stay and it reminds one of an old-fashioned Karoo hotel experience.
Friendly staff who are hands on. Rooms clean and spacious.
Victoria West is a good place to stop on way between Cape and Johannesburg. Merino Junction offers reasonably priced accommodation and a friendly place to stay.
Ideal stopover for travelers.
Although the room was comfortable, the air conditioning did not work, the toilet was broken on arrival and fixed itself, and the faucet kept dripping in the sink. No staff on duty after 5 o'clock and the restaurant was then closed. Parking was also not sufficient as road engineers had first right to covered spaces. Bed linen was also not clean to standard and towels smelled.
We had a great stay, clean and tidy, people were very hospitable.
Enjoy the overnight on the road trip before the holiday.
My parents and I had a wonderful overnight stay in this hotel. The rooms are neat and very stylishly furnished. The beds sleep wonderfully and the air conditioning was a welcome bonus for the December heat. For dinner we had mutton neck in the bistro in the hotel and it was mouthwatering! Breakfast in the cafe around the corner was also delicious. We had a very friendly and warm welcome and will definitely stay here again.
Thank you Merino Junction for a lovely clean room and bed, especially after a long day's travel. Was able to relax, enjoy dinner at reasonable prices and go to sleep.
Your home away from home.
Incredibly friendly service. Neat and clean rooms. The Bistro made the most delicious lamb neck for dinner I have ever eaten. The breakfast at the Karoo Deli was top notch. Would recommend it to anyone. The service and hospitality exceeded all my expectations for a Karoo village.
Clean, neat and convenient. Very well received and friendly. Staff competent and very good. Lamb neck as dinner a winner.
We were on our way back to Pretoria after a two week holiday on the Garden Route. We booked overnight accommodation at Merino Junction as we had stayed the night there before and had a pleasant experience there. The old hotel has been nicely renovated, our room was comfortable and the bedding 5 star. The dinner was just what we wanted, delicious lamb and vegetables. We can recommend Merino Junction as a stopover. We will definitely stay there again in the future.
Service and friendliness very very good. Feeling at home. Very convenient that the bar and Bistro and breakfast are available on site. Room very comfortable and tidy.
Friendly welcome. Lovely, spacious room with a cute porch on the building. Close to everything and nice restaurant in the hotel.
We had a wonderful stay. Bistro inside building is extremely convenient, we don't need to go out in winter cold. Staff were willing to serve us in the room themselves because my husband was not well. Also complied with her request for a warm sheet.
I was traveling with a student group and Merino Junction was great at providing all the services we needed for the large group. It was a pleasant stay in clean and comfortable rooms. The only issue that arose was the running out of hot water in the one room after four people took a shower in the evening, the next morning still had cold water.
We only stayed one night at Merino Junction, but it was excellent. We were kindly received and the room was very nicely furnished. Secure parking was provided, the beds were comfortable and we would love to stay there again.
Service was fantastic - thank you. A very nice hotel. Our room had coffee and tea, but not milk? The Bistro's food was delicious, but we felt that the portion of lamb pie was really small for the price. A lot of vegetables.
We always stop at Merino junction on the way to the Cape. The rooms have everything we need and the breakfast at the Deli is delicious. We feel rested to travel on the next day. Thank you for your hospitality.
Friendly reception and had a good night's rest.
The hotel is beautiful, nice decor and we really enjoyed our overnight stay and the breakfast the next morning.
Nice old building. Neat and comfortable with a cute coffee shop and other small shops. Lots of potential to uplift the town and attract tourists.
10/10 for Merino Jungtion. Quiet atmosphere, great service, clean, tidy, safe, delicious. We will come again for sure.
Just a small suggestion: a powerpoint or lead at the dressing table would be appreciated. Apart from that, a lovely experience that I would recommend.
Friendly reception, room very convenient and neat.
We were in room 6 and the light in the hallway right above our door that was on all night illuminated the room brightly making it difficult to sleep. We suggest that the window above the door be painted dark or the hallway light a dimmer bulb perhaps? Other than that it was a great experience and we will definitely stay there again.
Have a good time and relax ─ beautiful old buildings.
Merino Junction is a beautifully restored hotel in the countryside and met my expectations. Some of the rooms smelled slightly of smoke due to a function the day before. It was not pleasant, but I will certainly stay there again in the future and also recommend it to other tourists.
Our family of 4 had a great night's rest after a long trip. The staff were friendly and helpful. Even when we only arrived just before 21:00 that evening. Everything was clean and neat.
I appreciated that my reservation was confirmed by phone early on the day of arrival. The reception at the hotel was good and all our questions (also about places to eat etc.) were answered. The old Merino Hotel has been very neatly fixed in a country style. It was quite cold, but the air conditioner in the rooms was effective. (An electric blanket on the beds would have been so welcome.) Although a WiFi code was given, it was unusably slow. Everything in the hotel (guesthouse) gave the impression that it was well cared for, neat and clean. We can confidently recommend staying here.
Lovely Karoo town hotel. Excellent service. Secure parking for car and trailer. Cosy bistro with great food at very reasonable prices.
Room was clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful. Water pressure in the bathroom isn't very good.
Friendly welcome. Everything you need for a short stay.
Stay was only for 1 night, our little one enjoyed himself in the play corner.
The staff at Merino Junction were extremely competent and of great help and service. We were pleasantly surprised with the spacious rooms. The creative layout and amazing restaurant was like an oasis after a long day on the road. The food was delicious with genuine Karoo hospitality. We recommend this accommodation to anyone traveling in the area.
When we arrived it was load shedding. Staff received us very kindly. We were 2 families of 4 who booked. However, there was a problem with 1 room's toilet. The staff soon made a plan and gave us another room. The TV was also broken and within minutes of us reporting it, they replaced it. I will stay there again in the future.
The customer service was brilliant as we only arrived after 23:00 and we were awaited and shown to our room by by management without the slightest hint of annoyance, just pure welcome. Unfortunately we had to leave very early in the morning so did not have the opportunity to try out breakfast, which would have been great I'm sure if it was a reflection of the attitude of the staff and the cleanliness of the establishment.
Spacious, neat, clean. Breakfast next door was very nice.
There was no one at reception when we arrived, at least someone quickly realized there were people and came to help us. The premises are neat and clean. Air conditioning in the room was a lovely welcome after the hot ride. Parking is safe and staff were eager to help.
The old Victorian feel is palpable at Merino Junction. The rooms are very spacious and tidy. Practical meal options were available and the staff very friendly and helpful.
Good service, neat and clean. Terrible noise from other guests was very disturbing in the early morning.
Stay was very pleasant with friendly staff. Although the building is quite old, it is well restored and very interesting.
Place is nice clean, nice people and nice places to eat.
The hotel is very old but good restoration efforts have been put in place. However, further attention to detail is needed and attention will be given to central heating in the portal and corridors. However, the hotel room was beautifully clean, neat and the bedding fresh and cozy. Air conditioning was sufficient to regulate the heat in the room. The staff went out of their way to make our stay and meal as enjoyable as possible.
Merino Junction is ideal for overnight stays. The rooms need upgrading but are neat and clean. The dinner is very nice and would recommend it. The location is good with secure parking.
Had a great stay, would stay there again. Staff go the extra mile.
Merino Junction is a pleasant, unpretentious country hotel, clean and quiet, with friendly staff. We enjoyed a very nice dinner in the restaurant, at around R100 per person, excellent value. The hotel is ideally placed as an overnight stop for anyone travelling between Cape Town and Kimberley, and it would be a good base from which to visit the upper Karoo area.
Previously had a neat, comfortable room, this time however, our room no 8 was badly cracked, single bed was in a dark corner of the room, no bedside table or bedside lamp.
Room was tidy, shower head sprays everywhere.
Was welcomed and shown to our room. We ate at the hotel and were not happy with the chicken, the chicken breast was not prepared there and could see it was prepared from a box and was slightly burnt. The room itself was very nice and tidy and the service was good, because they easily exchanged the food for us. I personally was quite satisfied. I also forgot my cellphone charger there and the driver sent it via PEP courier. I'm still waiting, but believe it will come. Thanks for the service!
The quiet and peaceful, old-fashioned atmosphere of the place impressed us.
We had a wonderful stay at Merino Junction. The building has been beautifully restored and the decor is beautiful. We are traveling with a 3 and 1 year old. What would make it easier for us with small children would be a bathtub and a fan/or ceiling fan in the room. The room has air conditioning which is great (especially in December heat) but I would have preferred not to have slept with the air con on. However, it was very hot and you don't dare open the windows, the mosquitoes will carry you away. But apart from that (which is more of a suggestion than a criticism), we had a really nice stay and had a great meal. The playroom for the children was also a nice surprise. Would definitely stay there again!
The rooms are stylish, neat and clean. Received very hospitably. We had a great time cooling off in the pool after a hot day on the road. The food is top notch. The air conditioning and fridge in the room are convenient. Very comfortable beds.
We really had a great time there, place very nice and cute renovated and the food was fantastic, would recommend the place anytime, absolutely value for money.
Was very impressed with the place which was so beautiful, as well as quickly felt welcome with the warm welcome of the staff. Jaco, the bartender, as well as all the guests who hung out in the bar area, were very pleasant to meet and we simply hung out in the bar a while longer. The dinner was also very tasty and the Karoo lamb chops definitely added to the delicious meal. Definitely worth staying over there and would do it again as well as tell friends and family about the place. The air conditioning in the room made it even more pleasant to sleep over in the Karoo area.
Clean, newly renovated. Would definitely recommend as an overnight stop.
Unbelievable! Oasis in Karoo! Excellent service.
Unfortunately, the restaurant was already closed, but we had a very nice meal there on a previous occasion. At least the bar was open, so we could enjoy a nice cold drink.
Excellent customer service, delicious food, neat and comfortable rooms. Will definitely stay there again.
The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are very, very tastefully furnished and very well appointed! I would definitely stay overnight in Merino Junction again.
A wonderful escape after a long day on the road from the North West. The air conditioner in the room was an absolute lifesaver in 40 degree temperatures! Great value for money with two eateries on site with decent farm food! Kids enjoyed swimming pool. Sorry we couldn't stay longer.
Unbelievably surprised with Marino Junction, truly a gem in the Karoo. We really enjoyed the friendly reception and nice chats.
They went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. We had a nice barbecue with braai packets and side dishes that they provided for us. It felt like our own home!
Merino Junction turned out to be far better than we expected in a smallish Karoo town. The rooms are large, air-conditioned and comfortable. Downstairs is a huge bar and restaurant. The dinner we selected was very good. Secure parking is provided behind the hotel. Optional breakfasts are available at the Karoo Deli situated within the hotel complex, which also sells a wide variety of local jams and preserves plus cooldrinks, gifts and many other delightful things.
See stars! Will recommend this accommodation anytime. We really enjoyed it!
Very friendly welcome, immediately felt at home, rooms were wonderfully large, clean, tidy and homely. We were also able to warm up the rooms wonderfully with air conditioning. The owner apologized to us for the water pressure of the showers, due to the frozen water pipes that burst in the morning, he constantly works on them. We just took a shower that night to avoid it! The meal was delicious, just a shame the plates were ice cold and made the food cold within minutes. Merino Junction was a lovely place to sleep for us Bolanders on the way to the South from the North!
Was just what we needed for stopover.
The old Victoria West Hotel converted into Merino Junction Guest House is a real feast to stay in, very nicely restored, tasteful/stylish, and very comfortable and tidy, can really recommend the place, very quiet there too, not any noise not.
We were pleasantly surprised with our stay at the Merino Junction. It was incredibly clean and tidy and immediately felt like home. The restaurant is a must when you are there, we enjoyed the Merino Burger and fillet and Gerda was very friendly who served us. Their bar has a pool table, chess, pick up sticks, cards etc. to keep you busy. Their wine collection also looks exceptional. There is also a very cute little shop which unfortunately we could not see with a beautiful "courtyard" at the back. It was definitely worth it for us and made our "road trip" even more special.
We were 3 couples and had a wonderful stay and visit, the owners also provided us with a delicious meal. All recommendation would be that there should be mesh windows in rooms as there were mosquitoes during our stay.
We had the whole hotel to ourselves. Was hospitably received. Room was neat and spacious. We were treated to a delicious Sunday lunch. Our vehicle was also safely locked behind the hotel. Breakfast at Ronnie's kitchen was also delicious. Very friendly people.
The name "Merino Junction" belies the classy character of the hotel. Every part of the hotel is filled with interesting décor and amazing, unexpected and highly creative detail. It has certainly become our family's accommodation of choice when looking for overnight accommodation when travelling from the north of the country to Cape Town!
We really enjoyed the hotel. The room is neat and beautiful. The staff is very helpful and friendly!
We ended up there by accident, it's a gem of a place. I would recommend it to anyone.
We were pleasantly surprised. The bathroom could do with a ceiling to keep the sounds and smells out of the room because the semi-open plan configuration made of "dry-walls" - especially also because they are wooden floors. Beds were very comfortable and service is friendly. The non-smoking bar was a big plus. The food in restaurant was flavorful and very well prepared - compliments to the chef. Just a shame we weren't told about the pool at the Deli, it could have helped dissipate the heat of the summer day.
It was a pleasant stay with friendly staff. The room is very good with good facilities and very tidy and clean. There are good places to eat and I will recommend it any time.
Lieflik vir oornag wanneer jy ry. Ruim genoeg met kinders. Kombuisie perfek vir peuselhappies en kos opwarm. Die tafel en bankies in die eenheid was 'n boon. Netjies versier. Goeie gasvryheid.
Beautiful place. Friendly, helpful service. However, all the kitchens in Victoria West's eateries close at 9pm. A bit of a problem if you arrive later and would like something to eat.
Stunning spacious rooms, neat, clean and modern. We received a worm welcome by the receptionist and felt at home. Will go back anytime.
Lovely building, beautiful decor, friendly staff.
Very cute place with good service. Unfortunately didn't have hot water in our room but got use of the bathroom across the hall.
It is now truly an oasis in the hot Karoo. The rooms are very neat with comfortable beds. The restaurant is really recommended with really outstanding dishes.
Good value for the price.
Clean, neat, centrally located, good client service.
Accommodation was really very clean and tidy and meals excellent. Had a great time.
Like the decor. Friendly service. Loved the swimming pool.
Food has detrimental to the rest of our visit. My wife ordered pork chops. Only one pork chop as big as my palm. On the menu it clearly said pork chops. People were very friendly and we had a lovely stay. Will certainly go again, just look for another dining place!
Room and bathroom neat. We were not really happy with the food. Home cooking was presented but it was really not up to standard.
It was wonderful to spend the night with you! Thank you also for keeping food in the restaurant especially for us, despite so many requests for meals. The place looks exactly like the photos on the website and that's nice because it created a high expectation that was met. However, just one small bag that you won't know, because you don't shower there. The drain has a terrible, unbearable smell. And we had no hot water at all, my husband went downstairs to the barman, it was already late, and went to ask if he could help. But he just said the guy doing the interview isn't there. No effort made to try to help, no checking to see if the geyser might have tripped or just wasn't on. We're a bit sour about it, but we'll definitely be staying at Merino Junction again!
The place is good to stay and very nice people! But there is room for improvement. Will recommend them.
Had a great time, good food, neat and clean, very friendly service.
Parking is a pig house, mosquito bites were hectic. So much potential and character, but short of someone who really cares. Can see owner is absent. Incredibly beautiful building, sorry they did not go 100%. No cold white wine?
The rooms are very small. The fridge is completely empty, so the function thereof is questionable. No meals are available which is a big problem for travellers that arrive late and tired.
No hot water and our bathroom was not clean.
I was very excited to spend the night in a small town hotel. The hotel has a lot of potential, but it needs a lot of love and attention. The facilities are not clean, bed mats and base covers filthy dirty. There was hair from previous visitors in the shower and in the bed. Although we pre-booked for dinner, they only prepared three puddings for 8 people.
Neat, comfortable and beautiful rooms. Friendly and helpful staff. Secure parking available. Two restaurant options, both excellent. Will definitely stay there again.
Had a great stay, the hotel was a pleasant surprise!
As in the past, the accommodation does not disappoint, the nice rooms, prompt service. The restaurant and Karoo deli's food are both out of this world.
Will definitely use this accommodation again.
A gem in the Karoo, excellent.
Fantastic! Will definitely use them again.
Marino Junction has been beautifully restored with a lot of the old elements having been retained. Our room with en suite bathroom was clean, the bed very comfortable and the bedding was spotlessly white and crisp. Thank goodness for the aircon as well as the tea/coffee making facilities. The bar fridge was an added bonus. The food served in the restaurant was very good and the staff were efficient and friendly. We would definitely stay at Merino Junction if we were ever to stay over in Victoria West again.
Wonderful stay. Very friendly reception. Decor is terrible. Will definitely stay there again.
This guesthouse looks plain from the outside but it is beautifully renovated inside with vintage decor here and there. The rooms are beautiful, maybe just an extra blanket in the cupboard for the winter. The staff are colourful, jolly, intelligent and good hosts. The restaurant's food adds elegance to the accommodation and I had the most delicious Springbok carpaccio there. Well done!
We had a delicious dinner, had a good night's rest, and will definitely visit there again.
Really great stay with hostess Nel, very welcoming and accommodating, looking after our every need. Rooms were spacious and clean and crisp linen on comfortable beds with great facilities (kitchenette). We decided to test drive the braai facilities with wood etc being supplied etc which further ensured our comfort. Thanks a ton for everything!
The hotel has been beautifully restored and the rooms are very comfortable. We also had a great meal at their restaurant. People are very friendly and hospitable.
We were pleasantly surprised with the renovated hotel. Everything is convenient and tidy. The owners may consider putting an armchair in the room, as we had to sit on the bed to watch TV. And a mirror at the power outlet for when you dry your hair with the hairdryer. All the other necessities were available in the room. The dinner in the restaurant was terrific. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Had a great time. People had been very friendly and helpful. Dinner was excellent and tasty. The hotel is beautifully maintained. The breakfast at the Karoo Deli was not up to standard. It took a very long time for the little food we received.
The place is a hidden treasure and absolutely a must on one's bucket list. Indescribably friendly service, something we Gautenians are not used to at all. Rooms stylishly decorated with quality linen. The entire establishment is neat with unique farm decor and precise detail. Stunning. We will definitely get off the N1 again to spend the night here.
Only bad experience was that there was no water to shower in the late afternoon and morning. Other than that, it was very nice. Ka'Roux restaurants in the hotel are a must visit. Best food I've experienced on a business tour in a long time.
Rooms nice and big and comfortable. Would definitely recommend.
Slept and ate very well, value for money.
There was a problem with the water supply and we could not shower. We felt that the management could have made more effort to solve the problem.
Room is well equipped with a fridge, microwave and lots of coffee, tea and milk. Spacious bathroom. Unfortunately the shower head presented a challenge since not a lot of water came out of it. Great restaurant and we ate well.
The place is very neat, it just needs a bit of attention. Rooms have no numbers on the doors, and aircons in the rooms are a must, times of pub and dinner times need to be put up. The meals were acceptable.
