For the more adventurous person, there is whale and dolphin watching, deep sea fishing, kite and windsurfing, and the Spookdraai and Rasperpunt hiking trails. We also cater for nature lovers and welcome bird watchers, as well as anyone wanting to discover the beautiful proteas and fynbos.

The accommodation at Mermaid Guest House is situated in a very good location, very close to shops, restaurants and the sea. The facilities were good, the only problem was that we were affected by load shedding, otherwise everything was very convenient.

They should inform people on booking about the ridiculously steep staircase to the bedrooms upstairs. We would not have booked if we knew. Unsafe for people and worse with luggage.

Very dangerous style stairs were the first thing that greeted us. No assistance was offered to help us get our luggage up the same stairs. In general, the guest house is run down and needs quality renovation. The deck is truly awful, I can't imagine any guest would want to sit and hang out there. Although the bar and lounge area looks nice in the photos on the ad, it was locked and therefore we could not use it. The living room upstairs looks like a children's playroom with messy and mismatched furniture.

Nice rooms with all expected mod-cons. Tertia is extremely helpful and accommodating and the breakfast must be one of the best I've had anywhere. The staircase could be a bit challenging for older people as the steps are very narrow.

Friendly people and a clean guesthouse is a winning recipe. The breakfast choices are fantastic, always fresh and perfect. Our room number 7 was a bit small for a week's stay, but we will definitely look at Mermaid again when we go to Struisbaai.

We had an amazing stay at the Mermaid. The homely atmosphere was a breath of fresh air after a long drive. Many thanks to Christine and her staff who went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, and that both my boy's - who are in wheelchairs - had access to where they needed to go.
