58 guests' feedbackMidlands Saddle & Trout is my favorite overnight stay. Incredible nature landscape and view. Friendly service and a 5-star restaurant. So many activities available to enjoy.
Very nice view and spacious living quarters.
Amazing, lovely and my kids loved the horse riding!
I was very happy with everything.
A breathtakingly beautiful place, from the moment you drive through the main gate, the beauty and tranquillity already embrace you. The accommodation (Unit 17) was beyond perfect, with a beautiful view, comfortable, and stylish. Highly recommend Midlands Saddle and Trout Resort, and so look forward to our eminent return.
It was peaceful, the only thing is that the jacuzzi was not cleaned and couldn't be used. And there were lots of flies.
The environment/nature is peaceful. The facilities are adequate, but the resorts need renovation.
Very nice, a bit little to do for adults. Eat well. Horse riding nice.
The environment is very beautiful. The units and restaurant need some maintenance.
Very nice stay, friendly people and good food. Little things that do need more maintenance can make a big difference to the overall experience.
It wasn't unpleasant. The units are very nice, and the staff are very friendly. However, there were a few things that were less than wonderful: 1. The cleaning staff only came in around mid-morning. We'd used most of our crockery and cutlery the night before (big group), so we had to wash our own so we could have breakfast. 2. Another issue is that outside the restaurant and games area, someone felt it wise to set up a massive speaker which blasted tunes all day. We'd come up for what we hoped would be a quiet weekend in the Midlands, but the noise gave it a mall-like feel. 3. I paid R400.00 for what I was told would be a 1-hour outride, from 1 pm to 2 pm, for my daughter and her friend. When we got to the stables, there was no one to be seen. We had to go looking for the guide, found him, and the ride only got underway at 1:20 but ended at 2 pm sharp. I felt short-changed. 4. I don't know if it's fair to charge a fee just to fish (never mind the additional fee if you catch anything) in such poor dams. They are tiny, full of weed, and in two days we didn't see or feel a single fish. I booked Midlands Saddle and Trout for the "saddle" and "trout" parts of the name, and those were the two items where we felt let down. Other than that, we had a very nice family time in well-maintained units, but I don't think we would head back in a hurry.
A truly beautiful stayover on route to the Southern Drakensberg. Units are beautiful, with style and comforts. Lacks a bit of maintenance and customer service, but no reason for us not to return in the future.
The place is run down. Roads are full of potholes. Linen is old. Carpets are stained and old. Ceiling in en-suite and verandah need painting. The garden by the braai is full of weeds. There is nowhere to sit by the braai. The reception staff need lessons in customer service. You could not buy any bags of ice. It's a pity because the location and views are magnificent.
The venue is at best 3-star, and it is clear to see that the maintenance needs attention. The lock on the sliding door does not work. There is no water in the shower. The kitchenware is in odd numbers and mismatched. The TV remote cover is broken. The resort is stuck in the 90s and needs an update. It is clean and tidy, and the cleaning ladies do a great job. Possibly needs better marketing to lift the game up again. Unit 5B has very bad damp problems, and the wooden railings need serious repairs on the balcony as they are unsafe for children.
Staff is very friendly. Very centrally located if you want to visit Nottingham. Good overnight stay on the way to the coast.
Beautiful, clean and tidy. Nice restaurant. Activities for young and old.
Perfect for a one night stay and would consider it for a long weekend break.
A most enjoyable stay.
It was raining quite a lot during our stay and there was a bad leak in the dining room and entrance hall of the chalet. During loadshedding we found candles, but no candle holders.
Very nice place. Everything is neat and clean. Unit is well equipped. Most beautiful views from the porch. A bit far from Midmardam, but for any other visit it is ideal, especially for families.
The numbers on the chalets are not visible. I suggest you put the numbers on the doors.
The staff were nice and very helpful. The food at the restaurant was nice.
What did bother me was the fact that the blinds in the chalet were all broken. Some of the faucets at the sinks were loose. It wanted to appear as if the crockery as well as the cutlery from different sets had been flanged together. Nothing matched.
Accommodation very close to the highway, amazing view. Calm and tranquility are the right medicine to kick off vacation with. The road between the highway and the resort must be driven carefully because of the potholes.
The unit has a nice view.
Plenty of things to keep children occupied.
The units are neat and have everything for self-catering.
See stars.
We did however experience some difficulty with restaurant. Our waitress very kindly told us about an off menu food special of which we ordered 3 portions. The meal was smaller than expected and unfortunately when the bill arrived were charged full price. When we queried the amount management denied knowledge of the special. They did concede but only after we voiced our dissatisfaction.
We were unable to contact the resort in advance to confirm if restaurant was open that evening and if they sold firewood. We couldn't get through on any numbers provided or found on Google. The Lekka Slaap representative could also not reach them. Our unit had an interleading door to the unit next door. It is not soundproof at all and we could hear the children playing and shouting next door, late at night and at 6. 30 the next morning.
No water during loadshedding, a hygiene crisis with toilets and no drinking water.
Ceiling of porch urgently needs attention. Railings outside on porch are dirty and full of bird droppings and cobwebs.
Not what we expected. Photos posted are definitely not representative of the actual appearance. The resort is deteriorating. The unit we stayed in was nice, but the overall service was very poor. The resort is severely understaffed.
This was the first time since 2008 where we can say we had a horrible stay. It was not relaxing at all. Firstly, we had load shedding for 12 hours a day. Midlands Saddle and Trout did not inform us of this prior and that they did not have anything to assist whatsoever such as a generator. Sleeping requires a machine that assists with breathing and due to having loadshedding from 01:00 - 05:30 am, neither my wife nor I slept the whole weekend. On Saturday the electricity was off from 01:00 - 05:30 and then again from 09:00 - 15:35. They did not bother to inform us of the issue and only once my wife phoned and complained did they inform guests they've logged an issue with Eskom. Our unit was not up to standard. Our shower door was busy falling off and could barely close. The fridge door was broken with missing trays. We had to share a knife. There were no braai tongs. They told us there were candles which there were not. We were missing glasses, cups, plates. We informed reception of this twice and they did nothing. When you try to phone, it also goes straight to voicemail. Their customer service chat is also not available Saturday and Sunday which makes no sense for weekend guests. Their restaurant also has less stuff than before and very limited due to load shedding. You'd think so many years after loadshedding, they would make a plan for their guests or at least inform them prior how bad it is so that people with lifesaving medical equipment aren't left in the dark unable to sleep. We left there more tired and irritated than we got there. We've been loyal customers for years, but this is the last time Midlands Saddle and Trout will be seeing us.
Most beautiful place and very cute.
Had a Lovely stay at Midlands Saddle and Trout Resort.
We had a very rainy Easter weekend away for my wife's birthday, so we could not take advantage of all the activities we wanted to. Nevertheless, we had a very relaxing weekend. The fireplace provided extra comfort during those very cold nights. The restaurant was lovely, we had an amazing dinner and breakfast. The place was kept neat and clean. We will definitely be back again.
The unit exceeded our expectations and was much bigger than we expected. The variety of activities are great for families with kids. The shower heads in the bathrooms need to be replaced as they were very small and doesn't spray very nicely. I also think that each unit should have a complimentary bag of wood on arrival for the first use and the units should also have lighters or matches available for making a fire in the fireplace. Personally I found that the location of the plug points were awkward especially for charging cellphones as we had to put the phones on chairs to have them close to the plugs or underneath the dressing tables on the bins in the bedrooms. The main bathroom is very big but I found the counter to be too high which. Makes it uncomfortable to use. The shower in the second bathroom is very small and my kids didn't wanna use it.
Friendly staff. Good food.
Friendly staff.
Great place. Far enough from everything to feel relaxed.
Really enjoyed my stay. Can you guys arrange the chalet to be near each other, I cannot be travelling a kilometer to see friends I came with to your establishment.
We stopped here on our way to Ballito. The accommodation is very neat and beautiful. We as a family really enjoyed our time there.
We were not advised before our arrival regarding the load shedding. Upon arrival reception advised load shedding 18:00 - 20:00pm and candles would be available, there were none in the 2 bedroom chalet. 36A. After loading shedding 20:20pm we went to the bar and restaurant and were told we didn't make a booking and they did not want to assist, Thulesiswe was the bartender if a recall, I then asked for the manager (Johnathan) whom we were told had left already only for him to appear 10 mins later and whispered in his ear of the bartender but did not address us. The bar tender eventually did reluctantly assist but was not clearly not pleased. The bar and restaurant are schedule to close at 9pm and we were within the time frame. During the course of the night the water was shut off also not advised in advance if this was a daily occurrence since the flood, we tried calling reception repeatedly from 6am until 8am with no success. We had no water for toilet facilities which was a disaster. We checked out around 10am and only then were the staff going around with water (25L) for the units, however I think it was for the cleaning staff. Terrible experience especially for a one night stay, quite dissatisfied!
After 20 years back it was still worth every send.
Lots for the kids to do. A warm pool would be nice too.
The unit was well equipped, spotlessly clean, comfortable beds and the views were unsurpassed. Just a point, arrived early receptionist said he would check if the unit was ready and phone me within 15minutes. This never happened and when we returned 5 hours later the keys still couldn't be found.
We enjoyed the visit. Place is beautiful. Would recommend that maintenance on the house be brought up to date.
Good location and big units but lacks serious maintenance, everywhere things are broken or broken.
A beautiful area, with lovely bird life and wildlife! The views were spectacular and the accommodation was clean, and comfortable.
Really enjoyed it, the spa was a bit expensive, the restaurant's food was too delicious.
The venue was amazing, very beautiful, peaceful, safe and clean. The views were amazing. There was too many activities to keep the family entertained like games, golf, bikes, horse riding, spa to mention a few. If you looking for an amazing family getaway this is it.
Lovely accommodation in the beautiful Natal Midlands. Beautiful views from this self-catering accommodation.
My wife and I had such a great evening there. The spa was lovely, although the ladies could have been a little more friendly. The restaurant was amazing and so accommodating. And the management went out of their way to make our stay special!
Wonderful peaceful environment and ideal for families.
The place is neat and clean and fully equipped for a family holiday. Beautiful views in all directions and really worth it. The house has recently been renovated and is really neat!
The house was very tidy and the cleaners very efficient. Would have liked a heater in the room as it was very cold. Fireplace helped a lot against the cold for the front house. Will definitely stay there again if we get the chance.
The cottages are well equipped with a spa bath and fireplace. Customer service a bit cold.
