30 guests' feedbackEasy booking in. Room is clean and neat. Asked for a TV which was sorted very quickly. Booked Dinner and Breakfast from Theo. Good Food Good Value. Thank you Theo and Elsabe.
Very quiet and tidy place. We really enjoyed the nature and will go again even though we didn't get the cabin we booked, the visit was still nice.
Peaceful and had a great time at lapa.
Had a great time at the lapa section. Cute place but very neglected, needs attention.
Unfortunately, there was no view of the river. The main reason I chose this place was because it was mentioned in their description that you can fish from the property, but I was unable to do so as there is apparently no access to the river, as per the receptionist. Don't let the pictures fool you! The property was mostly occupied by local workers from the mine and power station. People were drinking and playing music from their cars until 11pm. There was a 'load shedding back-up light' in my room, but it was not plugged in, so it was not working when the power went out. The mirror in the room was broken and fixed with masking tape. The lock on my room door was also not working.
It would be nice to have a kitchenette so that you can at least do basic cooking. Toilet door not working, no TV in on room. No chairs to sit on or braai close by, but managed to arrange for chairs and a braai to be brought to our unit. Place is neat and tidy, but needs an upgrade. OK if you just need a place to sleep with minimum facilities.
The place is very quiet. There is not much to do. We expected more, but if it's quiet you're looking for, that's what you'll find there.
Upon our arrival at Molalatau Lodge, it was unfortunately Eskom Loadshedding. As we understand, this is South Africa. There were no candles or lamps and we were left in the dark. Also no warning to let us know that we should have provided for it ourselves. Also when power came back on there was no hot water. Second, they advertise that they have a restaurant, no warning, he said. Finally, we sent an email on Thursday asking if we could arrange breakfast for Sunday and received no response.
Overnight rooms mostly used by power station workers. On weekends it is mostly used by local day visitors for functions. Natural beauty could be better utilized by making the river visible. The bank is wooded and blocks the view of the river which is within 50 meters.
Rest, bar and bathrooms do not exist. Will help if their profile is updated then everyone knows what to expect. The reception and plan b (chalet shower facilities) were very clean and tidy.
Not at all what is promised on the internet, no one at reception (we had to call cell number on door to get our key), no check in, no Covid protocol and no masks. No bar (closed with red tape and full of cobwebs), no restaurant (only kitchen providing take-aways and no ice), swimming pool green and full of algae (even though it's 32 degrees outside). Cabin smelled of smoke and is not clean, has no utensils (had to ask for glasses), no water or plug on porch sink. Kitchenette consists of bar fridge (whole weekend's food doesn't even fit in it and door doesn't even close properly), kettle, 2 plates and 2 coffee mugs. Braai on the porch was still dirty from previous customers' braai and no security (Both gates are wide open). Monkeys very troublesome, throw out trash cans and pelt your car, can't open vents and air conditioning worked (showing 16 degrees) but definitely not cold. Was really a big disappointment! All positive was that the one member of staff (Stephan) we saw was very friendly and helpful and tried his best to help us.
Everyone was friendly. Theo contacted me and made sure everything was fine. It's so quiet and peaceful with the wonderful nature at your door.
The fridge is falling apart. No mesh frames i.e. can't open windows because bugs come in. Shower floor is ugly and old.
It will be nice if they can add a baby pool for kids aged 6 and younger.
We think that there is a room for improvement. e. g microwave in the rooms for guests who did not include meals in their bookings.
At breakfast the next morning the chef was entirely alone trying to wash dishes from the previous group and then having to cook and serve our meals. Breakfast was late and not up to standard. We feel that the public should be advised by the lodge and the booking agent that there is no shop, the bar is very limited and meals should be booked. The advertising is misleading. Also one of our friends had sent a message to lodge enquiring about the food as his wife is gluten and lactose intolerant. He was not given the courtesy of a reply.
Swimming pool is green. Step door board onto patio. Wood and fire fall through rotten rusted brazier. Weak weak weak. Noise from other guests is not controlled.
The units have not been maintained at all and are falling apart. No shower curtain and bathroom mold growing on the walls. There are bugs everywhere, it's terribly dirty, DStv doesn't work at all. We went to buy Doom and literally spit out a can. Didn't sleep well at all knowing that something could creep up on you in the night. We won't be back.
We were happy and loved the place. Will come back again.
Was an oasis with friendly and helpful staff.
We arrived at the lodge later than expected and reception was specially waiting just for us. The staff was friendly and considerate. The room and facilities were neat, clean and tidy and the room was also cleaned every day. The atmosphere at the lodge was quiet and very pleasant.
When I booked I was under the impression that all accommodation is self-catering. The Visvanger rooms only have a kettle and fridge - no further self-catering facilities. The restaurant did not have Alle Carté menu during our stay, and we were turned away. The hangout by the river is not used as advertised on various web pages. There are an awful lot of ants in front of the Fishermen's rooms and we could therefore not visit or barbecue under the trees. The air conditioner worked and there was DStv as advertised. Although the accommodation is affordable, I will not visit Molalatau again.
Would not recommend to anyone. The person who received us was very friendly, but did not know much about what was going on there. We booked for 4 adults and they made us pay for 2 units. About 8 people could sleep there. We only used the 1 unit. The pool was so dirty we couldn't even swim. We went fishing ─ there was no fishing. We understand about the drought, but if you book they should tell you so you can be given the choice to go to another place.
The reception was very friendly and moved us to a bigger house without any extra costs.
The place is clean and neat. Only the swimming pool was too small and cold.
See stars.
Day visitors and other guests do not consider any other person on the premises. Management does nothing about it either. Vehicles with loud music stop at your bedroom window and blare. At four o'clock in the morning you can hear the music of the vehicles as far as Ellisras.
The place is very nice and spacious.
