76 guests' feedbackAmazing setting and always a great visit. Would love to stay longer. Love the silence and scenery.
What a privilege to be able to stay in such an incredibly beautiful place!
We really enjoyed it, thank you.
We had a wonderful stay! Everything we needed was there.
Beautiful farm! Great value for money! Cute little cottages with lovely living room areas.
We loved our thatch cottage (Rietdakkies) and how rustic it all was. The farm is beautiful, and we enjoyed the pool and deli. There are parts of the cottage that need maintenance as it is getting very old, such as the wooden benches and deck. Otherwise, a lovely stay.
Small problems, wall plugs not working, water drain pipe in kitchen is completely blocked. Music on site (at wine tasting area) is a bit overwhelming. But it is wonderfully peaceful, private and a good place to rest!
The farm is very beautiful and the place has everything you need.
A lovely place with all we required, especially the fireplace in the room was good enough to heat up the place and make it cozy with the cold and wet weather this winter.
We stayed in the Manor Loft 1. We didn't sleep much due to rodent activity crawling on the beams above our bed at night. The mosquito net over the bed sheltered us from debris. The milk provided for coffee was bitten into by the rodent. The water supply was limited. WiFi was not available.
Requested for a refund upon arrival, room not as advertised. Smelly, mouldy, not clean, dirty towels, etc. Advertised as self-catering but no fridge. Really sad to drive 300 km for a break and then drive back with disappointment on the same day. Please assist with a refund.
Originally booked the tree house but due to circumstances beyond their control (broken window) they moved us to Cellar lofts which was an upgrade. It had been a very nice experience and the staff were very friendly.
The compact chalet at Montpellier De Tulbagh had everything needed for a short stay with basic catering facilities. The next morning's breakfast was a great farm-style feast.
Montpellier is ideal for someone who wants to switch off and escape from the busy and hectic life we live in today. The staff are incredibly friendly and make you feel welcome right away. I would definitely recommend them.
Rietdakke would be great in summer but in winter it is freezing cold. I recommend you bring wood for the indoor fireplace.
Good for the soul! Didn't want to go home, the silence, nature and surroundings were food for the spirit and soul.
Well equipped, it was perfect for us, a large group of family together.
We enjoyed the jumping castle for the little one and the fairy garden, as well as all the friendly dogs on the farm. It is a peaceful place to stay with very friendly staff.
Would like to book again in the near future.
My husband and I fully enjoyed staying at Montpellier De Tulbagh. It was a very breathtaking, and we absolutely enjoyed the tranquility. We will definitely return. Thank you.
We had a nice stay, but for the price we felt the room could have at least had a small fridge. Power went out and no one came to our room to come and say what the problem was.
The cottages could use a bit more cleaning and the water pressure of showers needs some work, but amazing service and great staff. Some additional protection from mosquitoes is needed.
The manager, Emanual is a real host and is very diligent in his work. The outdoor pizza under the trees is a must even if you only do it as a day visit. Really nice pizza.
Beautiful farm. Very nice.
The cottage is definitely a bit disappointing. Will book near the main building again next time. Kitchen and bathroom really need attention.
No, the worst service I have ever experienced. I am still waiting for the manager to contact me. Absolutely bad!
It is such a shame that such a beautiful farm stay was so disappointing. There were only fans and no aircons in the rooms. The bathroom was dirty and smelled bad. The toilet roll holder was broken and the bathroom mats were stained. There were also yellow stains on the towels so we didn't feel comfortable using them. The mosquitoes and other bugs made it even more unpleasant and there wasn't even something like a citronella cherry to help with that. Something like screens in front of the windows can make a much bigger difference than mosquito nets that you get tangled in and don't help. Paint peeling right over the whole house and walls and sofas were really dirty.
Montpellier was underwhelming. Expected more from the farm in general. The farm itself is very neglected and where the self-catering units are located is very uninspiring. Simplicity is dead right, but you don't get a feeling of caring and having a good time. Although the photos are not misleading, the photos on the website are not the feeling in real life. We left feedback that there are no wine glasses.
On arrival they definitely did not expect us. The reception was not sure if we paid or not after finalising payment 2 weeks before arrival. The power wasn't switched on, we had to put it on ourselves at the main board, which also meant no hot water. The curtain was broken and the cottage just generally old and falling apart. No reply after complaining about broken curtain! Unsafe road because of lots of rain on farm road, but luckily got shown a better detour road by someone on the farm on the Saturday.
The whole farm is an experience, stunning.
Sharon and Manny quickly made us feel at home. Service very well. Accommodation very neat. Lizzy's breakfast was very nice.
We had a very nice stay.
Everything was lovely.
There is n infestation of crickets, the owner should spend a night in the room I occupied, killed 20 crickets in one night. Would suggest a small fridge and microwave would prove helpful. Also consider a braai at each unit. Otherwise beautiful setting.
We enjoyed our family vacation. Beautiful self catering house amongst the trees. However they should definitely consider re-doing the bathroom as our toilets water was runnning the whole weekend, which really disturbed our sleep! Furthermore we enjoyed our stay.
Beautiful gardens. Nice staff. Plenty of room for mountain biking.
It looks like Covid has affected this location as there are distinct signs that upkeep is lacking. On the positive side the venue is very quiet, peaceful, green and lush. We were there over 3 hot days (not unusual for Tulbagh) and were surprised and disappointed to find no air-con in the room. We asked to move and luckily there was a room with an air-con available otherwise we would seriously have considered leaving and driving home that night. It was unbearable. Also the pool was murky and unserviced the entire time we were there and the flies were everywhere - fly traps were up but again were full and were not changed. Also all the rooms have awkwardly small/short baths and not showers. Why? Baths are luxurious but you don't want to run 2 baths every night before you go out for dinner! And a shower can cool you down on those hot days. Not a great decision. I would 100% recommend a visit but in its current state I would not recommend staying over.
Montpellier is incredibly beautiful and one would like to believe that some of the other units are very cute. However, the farmyard rooms are very basic and unfortunately not worth the price per night. The room was not properly clean - there were cobwebs, spiders and centipedes in the room and water, possibly from the shower, on the floor the whole time we were there. When we got home late after a wedding the room was covered with massive crickets (even though all the windows were closed) which got into our clothes and came out of our suitcases when we were back in the Cape. We called management for another room, but were told that Montpellier was fully booked and left it at that. For the price we expected slightly more comfort and cleanliness and better service.
Firstly there was no fridge in the place. We had to use a cooler box supplied by the establishment which I had to purchase the ice for myself. The ad doesn't stipulate there is no fridge and for R1500 I would honestly expect better. This cooler box also leaked water throughout the place. Front door of the place couldn't close properly and this was a great concern as the establishment was not access controlled or gated off. Literally anybody could access the farm. Also, the ad says braai facilities. There was no braai at the chalet. The braai was removed and we were told we can braai at the main building which I had to drive to and park and walk a distance from the parking to get to where we need to braai. The place had a mosquito net that had numerous holes in so on top of it all we were attacked by mosquitoes. The Friday morning our water at the chalet was off from around 08h00 until we checked out at 12h00. I made contact with Leana from the establishment regarding this matter and she ignored the message. We cut our stay short, because this was not what I expected and not what the ad portrays. The bed must've been the worst I've slept on by far. The bed was caved in and woke up with back aches after only a few hours of interrupted sleep. We checked out the very next day after checking in and up until today nobody from the establishment has made contact to find out why we checked out earlier. I was not happy with what we received at all. The ad shows no transparency. If I had known that is what we will get I would've much rather booked to go camping because then I know what I'm in for for half the price. This rate should seriously be reviewed and amended.
What an enjoyable stay for the whole family, including our fur baby.
We had a very nice stay. The cottage is very beautiful and comfortable. The bounds break away place for a weekend.
Nice to get out of town, stop hearing the buzzing of the city, and just relax and unwind. Well worth it!
At a loss for words.
Great accommodation in a very beautiful part of the country. Gorgeous gem.
I can hardly believe that I have lived in the Cape for 25 years and have never stayed at Montpellier du Tulbagh. I now regret that I did not know about the picturesque farm earlier. The room in The Stables was very romantic, the view was "to die for", the staff were very friendly and helpful and the garden...wow! You can't be nicer. Thank you very much. We will come back again.
We had a wonderful time at the farm. Lots of space to move around and lots to see. The service was excellent.
The Rietdakkies are separated from the other accommodation and were wonderfully quiet and peaceful with a beautiful view. We enjoyed our stay while exploring the area.
Many good restaurants and environment full of cultural heritage. Montpellier's garden is beautiful and the forest is full of character. The breakfast was delicious and very good value for money. The visit is recommended for people who love nature.
Had a very nice weekend. Safe and quiet with very friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely recommend to anyone and go again myself.
Everyone was friendly and accommodating. The venue is great, and the Stable Rooms amazing. Two small things - on our first day, the rooms were not cleaned and tea/coffee supplies not updated. The lady in our group suggested maybe a dressing table for putting on make up. A suggestion for breakfast is to make sure the toast is served with the breakfast as it was cold by the time we received our food.
The beds was comfortable, rooms were clean and staff was friendly.
The treehouse was an experience and will definitely go back again. Only criticism I have is that nowhere is it mentioned that the road up to the treehouse is not 100% suitable for normal/flatter cars (especially not when it's raining). Would be great if it could be put in the description.
If you visit the homestead where you check in then you expect accommodation to be similar but were a bit disappointed, cottages definitely need TLC. For overnight it's not too bad.
The garden is indescribably beautiful with all the winding paths, bridges and interesting corners. Pizzas that can be enjoyed with wine at the restaurant. Breakfast under the trees with peaceful background music, great staff.
Very nice stay with a lot of potential. Will definitely come longer next time to spend more time on the farm. Only criticism is that the bathrooms could be cleaner and better furnished.
Very nice gardens and homestead. Ideal for functions or weddings.
We had a very nice stay. Small, but comfortable. Everything you need for a nice overnight stay.
It's a nice little house, only a lot of cars that drive by at night and wake you up. Furthermore, it is neat and comfortable.
It was a picture perfect place! So delicious pizza eaten under the trees! The Rietdakkies where we stayed were a bit dirty and in need of attention but apart from that we had a very nice stay.
Overall the cottages were clean, but they are in need of TLC. The roads to the cottages are horrrid if you do not drive a 4x4.
The farm is lovely and picturesque, and the staff warm and attentive. I had booked a Farmyard room, but on arrival were given a Manor room. While the exterior of the Manor house is beautiful, the rooms need some maintenance and TLC (e. g the plumbing needs to be sorted out) and are extremely basic.
Beautiful room in an exceptionally beautiful, historic house. Very nice garden and area.
I was received very well, I immediately felt at home. The customer service is of high quality.
Relaxed atmosphere. Music a little too loud Sat. noon. Dogs bark early in the morning.
It was a lovely little winter getaway for our family and will definitely recommend it to others if they just need a little sanity out in the countryside or even if they are planning a wedding.
We have in Rietdakkies no. 2 slept. The faucet in the bathroom was completely loose. Air conditioning did not work. Shower was very dirty. No extra blanket (was a cold weekend). Grateful for clean linen and towels, but the place needs attention.
For that price one expected much more. Beds were slept through. Pipes from bath drain into sink when bath drains. Would expect TV in room. Nothing special for that price.
If you don't mind loud music blasting from 9am to 5pm every day from speakers in trees, then this is the place for you! The speakers in the trees are right where the accommodation is situated on the farm and thus you are subject to a variety of sounds from a playlist which makes no logical sense...and I mean... makes no sense! It jumps all over the place and is hard to follow without feeling anxious. Forget sleeping in or afternoon naps. Sometimes, they even have 2 songs playing at the same time which is an assault to ones ears and we were told that this 'does happen' with a shrug. As a music lover I found this experience extremely unpleasant. It was definitely not a relaxing experience and a further assault to my ears. We assumed this will only be played during outdoor lunchtime, but no, it's every day, whether they are serving lunch that day or not. Furthermore, there is no ventilation in the loft rooms or windows to open and with the thatch roof it feels like you are suffocating and will more than likely suffer from headaches due to the stale air as the rooms are not aired out. Lastly, don't bother paying R120 for breakfast as it's like a camp breakfast from school days gone by. You won't even asked how you want your eggs and there's nothing special on the plate for that price. Rather go find a Wimpy - even if it's in the next town - it's cheaper and tastes better! All in all a very disappointing experience and definitely not the tranquil country getaway we were striving for.
We stayed in the Rietdakkies. Although everything was clean, the place was neglected. The doors of the accommodation are half falling apart. When you want to open or close the curtains, the curtain rails fall off. The porch has nails that half pull out and are dangerous. Some of the boards stand up and make it dangerous. It is a shame that a place with so much character is so neglected. The morning we checked out, before 10, the people who got the key from us commented: "We were wondering when you were going to check out." Emmanuel, at reception where we checked in, is really the only highlight.
Very old house and furniture, with very few kitchenware. The shower tap leaked and didn't work. Sewerage smell as the drain was blocked at the back of the house. Bath towels had stains on. Security also not good as anyone from the streets can drive up to the house. The fresh air and evening braai was the only highlight of the place.
The Rietdakkies cottage needs a lot of attention. The deck is broken and not safe.
Can give warning regarding the smell and mosquitoes. Smell was sewage that stank badly and they can do more than just provide for mosquitoes. One person cleaned place while we arrived there 14h. Think more was needed as previous guests left the place in a deplorable state according to cleaner.
