The comfortable guest house offers accommodation in 3 bedrooms located in the Manor House. All the rooms have en-suite bathrooms, and guests can make use of the dining room with its old yellow wood stable door with cast iron hinges. The old stables have been converted into 3 self-catering units.
Guests can stroll around the park-like gardens, relax under the oak trees, or cool off in the swimming pool. Pets are welcome in units 1, 2 and 3 by prior arrangement.
Swellendam has many historic buildings that serve as a reminder of its exciting past. Nature lovers will enjoy the plentiful nature reserves around Swellendam, including the Marloth Nature Reserve, Sambona Wildlife Reserve, Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve, and Bontebok National Park. Swellendam is notably the largest youngberry growing region in the world, including farms such as Wildebraam Liqueur Farm set back from Voortrek Street, Swellendam’s main road, previously “ Die Ou Kaapse Wapad”, the Berry Farm, where one can enjoy tastings, cellar tours, and berry picking.

53 guests' feedbackWas really surprised with the authentic guest house with the most beautiful antique furniture that lives up to the history. Would love to stay longer and explore Swellendam, will definitely come again. Lizette was a wonderful hostess and made so much effort despite her old age, fresh flowers from the garden and everything clean and tidy.
My stay was lovely. The old house is beautiful. The gardens are absolutely stunning! Lizette was lovely, explained the alarm system etc. She even waited for me to come back after my business was completed, so that she could explain the alarm system - I had arrived later than expected and had to rush out for my appointment. I would definitely go back.
It was ideal - just what we wanted and what had been advertised.
Rich history and for those who don't care for antiques. Very nice stay.
It was very comfortable. Lizette welcomed us and was very helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Engaging and friendly hostess, beautiful old house, room and facilities very good. Please check before your stay that the hot water system is functional, as two of us in the house had tepid showers.
Very nice stay. Aunt is dear. The ancient old house with its wooden floors and beautiful antique showpieces in the old rooms. Love it.
Our hostess and her cat were very friendly. The house and garden were picture perfect. We enjoyed learning about the property. The room was neat and comfortable. The accommodation has everything we needed. The accommodation is only a few 100m away from 2 restaurants, so meals were not far away.
We had a very nice stay. The hostess had been an excellent hostess.
This house is beautiful! Antiquities and nostalgia. Nice and furnished rooms. One feels transported back to a previous era when one sleeps here. Our hostess also received us kindly and helped us very well. I would stay here again anytime next time we travel to Swellendam!
Comfortable and well equipped accommodation.
Original, authentic, and full of character if you are into that.
We enjoyed a well-kept place to stay.
My daughter-they spent the night there and their feedback was only positive.
We were kindly received. The place was neat and clean. Had a nice stay.
Lizette was a wonderful host. Beautiful accommodation - close to town.
We stayed overnight with a 1-year-old. Lizette made sure we had everything we needed and was a most gracious host. The self-catering accommodation suited the young family and the guest house suited the grandparents.
It is a privilege to be able to stay in such a gem. The hostess received us kindly and shared with us the secrets of the historic house and garden.
The room was wonderfully rested and can't get enough of the building of the mansion. It was a wonderful homecoming.
What a pleasant surprise! The self-catering unit was fully equipped and we could easily meet our family there. We will stay there again in the future with confidence. The unit was clean, tidy and spacious. Unfortunately the WiFi signal was very weak, but we didn't even need it.
Lovely peaceful atmosphere and the host makes so much effort to ensure a comfortable stay! Beautifully maintained homestead and garden.
A lovely lady owns this house and it is great to see it has been kept as original as possible. We had a lovely night's rest and would recommend anyone who has an interest in history to stay here.
Travel back in history. Lovely place.
We had a bit of a glitch with the check-in process initially as we couldn't contact the host for access, but it was resolved within an hour. Our pleasant stay at Moolmanshof more than made up for it afterwards. Lizette and Estelle's hospitality is excellent, and the house is beautiful and very comfortable. The garden is absolutely lovely. We and our friends had the whole old house to ourselves and really enjoyed it. Will come again.
We had a wonderful stay. Our big dog child was also very welcome and that means a lot to us!
Neat room and peaceful environment.
Olde Room is a beautiful room with good attention to detail. We felt very welcome, wish we could have stayed longer!
Was disappointed in Cottage 2. The photos and reviews on websites are misleading.
Very nice stay. Unbelievable to sleep in a 300 year old house. Place is full of character and history.
The facilities were excellent and the lovely setting with all the facilities we could enjoy with our family gathering was fitting and extremely suitable. The hostess was good, helpful and focused on customer service.
The atmosphere at Moolmanshof is one of tranquility. The house is laid out for comfort but retains the sense of history in many aspects. The rooms make you feel like you've walked into a fairy tale, but with the modern joys of coffee and WiFi. The shared kitchen is well equipped and offers you the opportunity to prepare a meal that you can enjoy in the garden or dining room. Truly a gem in Swellendam!
The hostess is very friendly and showed us the old house and told us a little about the history of the house.
Slept wonderfully warm in a very wet Swellendam. Will use Moolmanshof again. Friendly and helpful people.
We had a good stay at Moolmanshof. Circumstances forced us to rethink our travel plans and Lizette was very helpful and accommodating for us. It is a beautiful town and it was nice and quiet at the accommodation.
The host was so lovely. Everything was spotless and the whole house has a "homey" feeling. Wonderfully large garden full of birds. Highly recommended.
Moolmanshof is one of the oldest buildings in Swellendam. Very nicely restored by Lizette, the owner. We are welcomed personally with each visit and must be talked to first! The location is perfect, the nice big garden is lovely to walk in. Delightfully cool in the summer under century-old oak trees.
We had a wonderful stay. Everything we needed was available and the owner just a phone call away. The history of the house and the surroundings was an experience. We experienced several load shedding periods and would have appreciated more light, especially outside where the vehicles were parked. Despite the two hours of darkness per night, we did not feel unsafe in any way. We will definitely stay there again.
Lovely place, very friendly hostess who goes out of her way to make you feel welcome.
Our accommodation unit was equipped with everything that ensured a pleasant stay.
On Main Road, regretted our choice.
Didn't get the unit I booked with bath in it. Felt like we were sleeping in back room. Very mouldy, drainpipes broken everywhere and water running in front of doors. Braai place was not cleaned. Maintenance and renovation needs a lot of attention.
Had a great stay, thank you.
This excellent restored house offers a special example of our history and to be able to experience and experience the atmosphere first hand will always stay with us. Because the building is so old, it needs a lot of maintenance to be up to standard. The bathroom of the bedroom to the left of the entrance is not up to standard (small, no cabinets and heels). An electric fan can easily be added to circulate the afternoon and evening heat.
I wasn't too disappointed with the rooms as I had read a review beforehand which warned that the Stables units did not look like the photos on the website, all of which only show the main house. The Stables rooms are good enough, but will be disappointing if you expect anything else. It would be a good idea to post photos on the website. But we were very disappointed because I specifically messaged to say I was looking for accommodation and one of us is in a wheelchair, and I received a reply indicating that we would be able to be accommodated with a wheelchair . The units were not wheelchair friendly at all (and we are used to some discomfort, with a few steps or so). That's why I sent the message before booking! This is very unprofessional.
Felt very welcome with Lynette who went out of her way to welcome us. Nice swimming in the pool on the premises. We also enjoyed that our ten-year-olds had their own room next to us. The facilities in the rooms are excellent. It was great not having a problem with the WiFi system, the signal was very strong.
Beautiful old house, nicely decorated with fresh flowers and attention to detail. For the price I would expect the room to be serviced, and for them to take out the trash, make beds and hang towels back dry and tidy.
Lizette was very friendly and considerate.
Excellent stay, due to rain we had to stay mainly in the room. But it was comfortable and the care excellent.
The main building and rooms are very nice and are used in the marketing. However, we slept in outbuildings with our two adult daughters. They had to walk through our unit to the outside through overgrown plants because their unit does not have an exterior door. In addition, the family next door was sitting on their porch right against my children's kitchen window. The toilet paper was insufficient and there is no gate to provide security for your vehicle. Our room's DSTV did not work and they made no attempt to repair it. Would certainly not recommend the accommodation.
We expected B&B, but it was a self-catering unit and then no/limited cutlery provided. Vehicle safety concerns. No gates, lockup garage or visible security presence. We were also the only guests at the time on very large property.
See the stars below.
Moolmanshof is well located in Swellendam. The premises and garden are spacious and peaceful.
Aunt Lizet is very hospitable and friendly. This is one of the most beautiful guesthouses we have ever stayed in, and the breakfast is something incredible. I would recommend Moolmanshof anytime.
