68 guests' feedbackSuch a beautiful place, was exactly the break we needed. Next time we're bringing all the friends along.
I had to come through last minute for work from PTA. We got lost because Google at 8 o'clock in the evening but when we eventually called Josie, she immediately picked up her phone and helped with a pin drop etc. Other than that, we were very impressed and can't wait to come back. Glad we discovered the place. See you soon for sure!
Just to inform visitors: Malachite Cabin is very cute, just a pity that Malachite's dam is not stocked. No coffee mugs. Make sure you bring enough briquettes for braai, and that the braai is at the cabin on arrival. No food available, not even at the 'pub', nearest town is a 40 min drive.
Beautiful, clean wooden house. We stayed in Malachite for the second time. The cottage is very private and you are not aware of other people at all. Very well located to explore the rest of Magoebaskloof's bird watching spots. Lots of birds at the ponds and lovely walking trails. Enjoy the bird hide every time!
Mountain Flyfishing is a particularly beautiful place that gives visitors a chance to enjoy nature. The residential units are all far from each other and offer a beautiful view of the plantations and trout ponds.
Very friendly and helpful.
My family and I really enjoyed the stay there.
We rented 3 of the 4 units. Environment is beautiful. Facilities good. Good value for money.
It was very nice and tidy, but it is important that your guests know in advance that there is no power, we have two very small children and were only informed about 3 days before we were to check in that the unit runs on solar power and there is no power points in the house. In general, we don't mind it at all, but we should have been informed about it in advance, especially since we have two little ones so that we can make the necessary arrangements. The master bedroom's shower doesn't offer hot water either, the cottage is heated with a donkey and all the other bathrooms and faucets had hot water, but not the master bedroom's shower. Otherwise, the cottage is very nice and tidy and ideal for relaxing.
I absolutely feel we paid way too much for what we got. If you have no electricity, no plugs not even the solar lights worked, then I actually don't know what we paid for. The whole cabin smelled like gas. I will not recommend to anyone nor will I ever stay there again. I had 2 old people staying with us and they had no lights to even go to the bathroom in the evening. It was absolutely horrible.
The nature, tranquility, cottage and care of the grounds contributed to the positive experience. It was soul food. We are bird watchers and the walking route with the two bird hides was a bonus.
The cottages are well equiped with everything that is needed. Magoebaskloof gets cold and the cabin ensures guest are warm, toasty and comfortable. The beds in the Fish Eagle cabin are very soft and bouncy, think it needs replacing.
We really enjoyed it tremendously! The house was so nice and clean and also warm. Such a lovely feel when being in the woods, peace and quiet with the most amazing view of the lake and moon! We will definitely be back soon, and.... Jim, you were the best dog ever!
Rooms are very spacious and clean. Perfect for a family break away to relax after a busy year. Josie is a friendly and helpful host. There was a generator for when municipality experienced power outages, which was fantastic. Walking paths are just a bit overgrown but still highly recommend this lovely place!
Thank you. Extra attention is given to ensure guests are warm enough on chilly evenings. My only concern was never finding anyone at reception to deal with check-in or so we could pay our fishing bill.
Friendly service. Well equipped. Lots of wood was a bonus. Refrigerator doesn't make it colder.
The road to the accommodation is not in such good condition, but beyond that there is nothing to complain about.
But the house is very comfortable and the surroundings beautiful.
Very nice and neat, clean place, would definitely recommend it, very helpful and nice owners
Very nice, the braai area was just a bit dark, no lights.
The stay was pleasant and we enjoyed our weekend. There are a number of places to visit during your stay.
The Malachite cabin is cosy and clean, looking right over its own private dam. The only small downside is that it is unfortunately not equipped with a gas stove so you can’t make tea during long power failures. I would love to go back.
Loggers cabin is away from everything and everyone. It is not on the river like the others, but offers something different: silence that is deafening and real peace and quiet. The hot water comes from a donkey and the lights are solar panels. No charger for your phone and it's fantastic for people who write and want to go without technology for the weekend. I will recommend you guys again.
Malachite cottage is the ideal getaway for 2 people. Peaceful and quiet and beautifully appointed with everything you need. When the wind blows at night, the wood creaks slightly like in a tree house!
The place is in a stunning area. I had to do a wedding at Cheerio Gardens and Mountain Fly Fishing was close enough to everything and very safe. Everyone is very friendly. The Pygmy Cottage is just right for 2 and very simple. The roads were a little rough, but luckily for us we had the bakkie. There is plenty to do in the area and many trails to hike. Josie and her husband were very friendly and gave us a lot of privacy. The main point was the tree swing that looks out over the dam. Little that one still gets today. I felt like a kid in my element again. Artificial fishing was also fun.
So romantic, fire place, mist and mountains, and the dam just in front. Very peaceful.
We loved our night at Mountain Fly fishing, the Pygmy cabin is nice and cosy and comfortable with a great view, it was cold and the fireplace inside the room was wonderful, the location in Magoebaskloof is also great.
To visit the Loggers hut you do need a vehicle with a higher suspension.
Only shortcomings were the use of a donkey hot water system which meant we had no hot water on the Sunday morning as the fire was only lit for 8 hours. The system wastes a lot of water by waiting almost 4 minutes for hot water to come through. Route to the Loggers Cabin is not suitable for an ordinary vehicle.
Beautiful, peaceful, quiet and for sure rest for your soul! Will definitely want to visit Mountain Fly Fishing again!
See stars.
Mountain Fly Fishing's unit was fully equipped with a lovely porch. You are surrounded by large trees, trout ponds and a wealth of wildlife. There are short hiking trails as well as good trout fishing available on the farm. The dirt road to the farm is not bad at all and we could easily get there with our city car. We were communicated with regularly and thoroughly and we will be back again soon.
Would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway.
Always very nice to stay at Mountain Fly Fishing. The accommodations are clean, comfortable and very beautiful. There is all that is needed.
We were very surprised to find this beautiful kept little cottage on the hill. Complimentary coffee, tee, sugar and milk. Fire wood is supplied. Warm water was made with a donkey. Solar panel for lights at night. Beautiful view. Clean sheets and ample blankets. Real value for money.
The accommodation is neat, clean and well-equipped. Even with solar lights, there was more than enough light. The owners made sure that the donkey was lit early in the morning and there was no problem with hot water. Special thanks to Josi, who went out of her way to accommodate us with power points in Wagtail to blowdry hair for a wedding.
Wonderful location and very pretty area. Makes you long for the old days.
Can definitely be recommended for those seeking some peace and quiet.
It is a fantastic place and great location.
We stayed in the kingfisher and fish eagle cottages. The cottages are well appointed and comfortable. Staff were friendly and efficient. Fishing was sporadic but did manage a couple nice fish and there was a cold front. Dams could do with a bit of clearing of weeds and brush around them. Highlight of the trip was seeing two Knysna turaco, a lifer for me.
Clean, neat and wonderful view. Could really relax!
Beautiful and neat. Breathtaking and 5 nice dams for fishing. House is perfectly equipped and you feel treated. Perfect getaway to just relax and have fun. Thank you very much for a special long weekend that we will never forget.
Very pretty location and very relaxing.
Was a bit difficult with my daughter who wanted to watch TV, but we kept her busy.
A piece of hidden paradise among the mountains. Perfect place to relax and recharge for a tired soul and body.
The view from the deck is breathtaking! The hostess, Josie, received us kindly. The wooden house is luxurious and very well equipped. The stay was peaceful and we could truly rest. We will definitely want to stay here again in the future.
Josie and David made us very welcome and were concerned about our drive there as it was raining a lot. They personally came to greet us at our cottage and made sure we had everything we needed. Will definitely visit Mountain Fly Fishing again!
The cottage was clean and excellently equipped. It was great for us to ride mountain bikes into Haenertsburg for breakfast and the view in the area is fantastic... and if the weather forces you to stay inside it is even better as the fireplace provides the perfect atmosphere. Haenertsburg (the town) is very peaceful and warm. If you are coming from the south on a Friday afternoon, maybe allow an additional 30-45 minutes for travel time.
Had a good stay in a well equipped wooden house. My husband enjoyed the fly fishing.
For any visitor who wants peace, quiet and peace, Mountain Fly Fishing is the ideal place to go.
We jogged, cycled and walked and hardly saw anyone. The atmosphere and the surroundings were absolutely idyllic for us. The daily cleaning of the cottage was lovely. The smoke gets a little into the house when they make a fire in the donkey. The new bathroom was a plus, but we struggled there because hot water took an awful long time to get out.
If we can say anything negative about one thing, it is the road into the mountain. Rather use a stronger vehicle with bigger wheels than our little car!
It's a lovely place to just relax in a picture-perfect setting. The cottages have a beautiful view of the fly fishing ponds and are cosy, tidy and stylishly furnished with everything you need. We were even provided with fireplace and braai wood. We also had a great time walking on short walking paths. I would recommend Mountain Fly Fishing to anyone who likes a quiet environment away from the hustle and bustle of many people. Do take some nice reading books with you!
We stayed in the Pygmy Cottage for a long weekend. The farm is beautiful and the accommodation is clean. Everything works and nothing is missing. We will definitely stay here again. I think the environment offers a lot too! There are incredibly beautiful views when you explore a bit. Very fresh air and very peaceful!
We were pleasantly surprised with how nice and tidy the accommodation was. Really enjoyed it and will definitely go back again. It's value for money with very good service. Would definitely recommend it.
The house is fully equipped and it is very convenient that each room has an en suite bathroom. Not a single complaint, we had a lovely time and can't wait to come back again.
We have travelled throughout SA as well as the US and UK and Mountain fly fishing will be on our top 5 best vacations. Not only is the scenery tranquil, the setting, sounds and smells are unlike any other in SA. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of living, we would recommend it.
The only negative issues were that there was no warning of the bad road to get to the venue. Thankfully we were prepared and had eaten before we arrived as we would not have been happy to check in and then have to go out again to eat. The water pressure is also very low and it was hard to get a decent shower as a result. However, the total experience was really lovely and neither of the two issues would prevent me from going back. Wonderful job Josie, we hope to visit again in the future!
We did not realize the road there was so bad and we had 2 saloon cars. We didn't want to go out to buy food dinner, but the hostess was so kind as to cater for ALL 16 of us! Very well organised and we had a fantastic night!
Very comfortable and neat, clean wooden chalets that fit in nicely with beautiful surroundings. Service is excellent. You just pack up and start relaxing, firewood for barbecue and fireplace is provided and cleaned daily.
Friendly service and helpful with anything.
In wet weather, the road after that is not suitable for normal vehicles.
It was very very nice and I would highly recommend it.
Very nice location and view from the cottage. Cottage was clean and very convenient for bigger groups (6/7 people) ─ enough space and three bathrooms. Owner very friendly. I can really recommend this place.
An awesome place with fresh mountain air with an abundance of green surroundings, this is what makes for a great escape from city live. For the avid fly fisherman, this is the most activity I have ever seen on the water.
Tidy.
Will definitely recommend the place.
A wonderful and tranquil area to stay in, for as long as you like.
