46 guests' feedbackMy stay was wonderful at Mountain Haven. Cozy, clean and peaceful. The room had everything one needs. Vince was a wonderful host.
We loved our stay at Mountain Haven Guest House. The location is breathtaking, the rooms are quirky and unique (if a bit small), and the host, Vincent, was excellent in helping us navigate the scenery and making sure we have everything we need.
Vince was very helpful with travel tips in the area and also very accommodating and constantly made sure the stay was comfortable.
Comfortable and clean accommodation. Everything you need for a weekend.
Cute and well located for our purposes.
The unit I booked was dark, damp and super depressing, so I asked to be moved. Vince very kindly upgraded me to a sunnier room, but I still found the place a bit sad and neglected. The mattresses need replacing as they are too soft. It is also very noisy as it is on the main road from Nelspruit.
Lovely own braai area with boma. We enjoyed it very much.
Had a great stay in beautiful Kaapsehoop.
Enjoyed our stay very much. Clean accommodation and Vince was always helpful where needed.
Vince is a man with a lot of information. Pleasant host. The places are small but clean and practical. Everything you need is there.
The only thing that bothered me was that it is so close to the main road, but that's my personal opinion. I come from a farm where everything is dead quiet, that's why I say it's my personal opinion.
Good things first - the host is very nice and helpful and the outside area is very well kept with tidy braai nooks. It's completely off the grid, so loadshedding won't worry you too much. The wifi is reasonable and there is no limits (at least we didn't notice). It is pet friendly, and for us this was the important part. Sinks, bedding and toilets were clean, but that's about it - overall the place is a bit run down, especially inside. The TV screen was dirty (obviously not cleaned very often) and we didn't get it to work anyway, the floor wasn't very clean either. There wasn't enough cutlery, no proper knives, so bring your own if you want to braai. It was damp inside and it really felt like some proper maintenance was needed. Our unit was a bit small for the 3 of us and the dog (unit 1) - the units are on a small size, so if you are a family with with quite a bit of "stuff", rather chose larger unit.
Beautiful place and view. Thanks for the extra blankets, it can get pretty cold in the evenings. Please remember just guest towels next time. Everything else was perfect, thank you!
The owner was very friendly and upgraded our room for free. Thank you very much Vince.
The walk to the escarpment was an experience, and the ghost tour with Vince from Mountain Haven was wonderful.
Was very nice to stay there and will definitely do it again.
Great not to be dependent on Eskom, WiFi etc. Also fantastic that there are no unnecessary outdoor lights shining all night! Everything I needed, with friendly welcome and follow up from owner.
Vince was very professional and helpful, went out of his way!
He is very hands-on with the guests. Very friendly and helpful. Definitely the place to rest and relax.
Friendly reception. Neatly equipped with basic necessities. Small, but homely and perfect for a weekend or overnight stay. Nice braai and visiting facilities.
Bathroom, kitchen was dirty. Shower water runs all over the room. Cups cracked and old. No TV as per photos on site.
Nothing dramatic, the weather was terrible, but we could rest easy.
For the low rate, the accommodation is definitely value for money as we had everything we needed. Although not luxurious, the place was clean and tidy and everything worked. It is ideal for when meals are to be consumed elsewhere, as the space for cooking is limited. I would definitely recommend it for a weekend or a day or so longer and we will definitely be staying here again!
Vince received us kindly and also gave us a list of things to do and other useful information. It was peaceful and we could relax. This was our first visit to Kaapsehoop and met all our expectations. Close enough to Nelspruit and other places. Enjoyed walking around the village. It was very foggy and didn't get to walk to the lookout point. Will hopefully do so on next visit.
Simple but comfortable accommodation. Great atmosphere.
All residents, vacationers and visiting guests are very friendly and helpful.
A few small things that didn't work properly, like 1 gas plate that didn't want to work. Toilet leaked water. Otherwise very nice visit.
Not impressed at all. Dilapidated and neglected. And no, it is not the authentic style, there is a difference. Beds very uncomfortable. Shower not draining properly. Refrigerator leaked water. Cups were dirty. Containers with coffee and sugar were dirty. Place has potential but it needs to be properly maintained and clean.
We got there when it was dark already. Once we got everything into the room, I realized that there was a smell and that everything seemed grimy. I had planned to cook but didn't feel comfortable to do it in the kitchen. I am certainly a very easy going traveler, but this was just a bit too rustic for me. I also expected friends to stay the next night and felt too embarrassed to let them stay there. We packed up and left to find alternate accommodation. The next accommodation was also quite rustic. Be sure you have a good look at the accommodation you book to not be disappointed. Vince was very good at giving me a refund for the second night as he managed to find alternate guests. We might have just got the rooms on the wrong day or perhaps the rest of Mountain Haven is better. It seems from many other reviews that many have had a great experience.
Had a great stay and manager was very nice and helpful. Will stay there again, will just take own pillows as the pillows were not comfortable. Its small but enough for 2 people on a short stay, its all what you need.
See stars.
Everything you need, but the space is a bit small.
Thanks so much, we had a great stay and we'll definitely go back again.
Owner was very helpful and had a lot of knowledge about area.
We were looking for the cheapest accommodation for the short duration of our stay. The kitchen and bathroom amenities were in working order and met expectations. Bedding and room were neatly clean. Aspects that have broken down the unit are small things that involve basic maintenance. The toilet roll holder falls off. The hanging cabinet's door no longer functions properly. The curtains cannot be opened properly because the hooks are off. The towel rail behind the bathroom door hangs on one side by a single screw. Vince was quick to fix the leak under the sink, but regular and a final inspection should have pointed out these deficiencies and they could have been repaired. There were quite a few books in the room to read, but one struggles to read by the weak light above the bed. Vince was friendly and helpful and I believe he will correct these aspects quickly.
Close to nature with the necessary facilities. Vince is friendly and the information was helpful. We could enjoy mountain biking and walking. The Batterywaterval was someone wonderful to see. The views of the Lowveld was breathtaking. Wild horses are unique. Beautiful rock formations. Lovely socials around the fire in the evenings in the lapa. Very quiet and definitely a place to relax.
The host was friendly and helpful. The view was beautiful. Would definitely go back.
Thank you.
It was very nice and tranquil, with a beautiful view over the town.
Was very disappointed in the room was small and cramped. There weren't even forks in the kitchen. Had to ask for forks. The single bed's mattress was smaller than the base. The shower curtain was very dirty and moldy. The movement space in the room was small and cramped. Was really very disappointed with the stay.
We didn't expect anything extravagant. Just a place that met our basic needs of a clean and tidy place with braai facilities where we could hang out around a fire in the evenings with the friends who accompanied us. The braai area was embarrassing and looked more like a scrap yard and was not welcoming at all. The rooms get no sunlight and everything looks and smells musty. The person on duty pointed out a safe place for our 3 motorbikes to stand. He also took one member of our company with his own vehicle to buy braai wood at the small shop in town.
We enjoyed a relaxing few days at Mountain Haven. Our host, Vince, was friendly and helpful. A guided walk, funny stories about the area and a ghost tour contributed to the good service. The units are neat and well equipped with a bathroom and kitchenette. There are three 'rustic' corners where we spent hours with our toddler and where we also rested after cycling and walking adventures. Bring decent walking shoes, a wide-brimmed hat and a walking stick if you want to explore the forests, waterfalls and escarpment. Kaapschehoop is beautiful with activities for all preferences. Our cottage at Mountain Haven was cozy and comfortable - we would definitely stay there again!
