Hanging out with sister, brother and family. Rian made us feel welcome and was very kind and carried an extra bed into the unit for us. Because we were waiting for brother to arrive, we had dinner brought to the unit. Unfortunately it was a bit cold, but very nice nonetheless: a small microwave in the unit would help a lot. Delicious breakfast and a visit around the table the next morning. For older people, I suggest that handrails be put up along the stairs to the different rooms. We had a great time and received friendly service from the staff. I would definitely recommend the hotel!

The hotel's cook served us with delicious cooked peasant food. The malva dessert was so delicious. We also slept wonderfully warm, because it was really cold that night. They made everything as comfortable and peaceful as possible for us. Thank you very much.

Mountain Shadows Hotel is a neat place to stay, with all the basic facilities. It is in a very beautiful setting and the breakfast was excellent. However, be mindful of load shedding, especially if you arrive after sunset.
The rooms are well equipped, would have liked a small fridge. Enough space and provision has been made for load shedding. Beautiful area with breathtaking views. Meals are optionally served. Worst food and combination I have ever eaten. The service in the dining hall was not at all up to expectations. Would not recommend it at all.
Batteries of TV's remote control were dead and we received no wifi code.
We noted the absence of nice walking trails and did our own "bundu bashing". Nevertheless we had a very pleasant stay.

We stopped at Mountain Shadow Hotel for an overnight stop during our recent road trip. The hotel is on top of the pass, so a scenic drive to get there. It was very cold, but rooms are equipped with heaters and electric blankets. The main building has a fireplace to warm up the bar/dining area. Breakfast was served in a sun-drenched dining room which was lovely! They offered us a few options for dinner that night, which was more than sufficient. Friendly place to break our travels.

Ria was amazing. Super organised. She was there to welcome us, and made us lunch even though it was way past lunchtime. One of my sons is vegetarian and was very well catered for. Ria's hospitality was the best I have experienced ever. Will certainly visit again.

I give Mountain Shadow Hotel the highest recommendation. It's a gem standing proud at the start of a most scenic adventure. The hotel is delightful, feels like Christmas all year round. When packing, make sure you pack for cold nights as the rooms are very chilly but it enhances the experience.
