The wooden floorboards creak, the windows and doors rattle, that kind of thing, but the charm value is amazing. If you are staying over in Lady Grey, you can be sure you will have a great stay here. We arrived the day after Christmas and they were short-staffed so we worked on an honest basis at the bar. Who does that anymore? It set the tone for a very relaxed and chilled 2-night stay. The food at the restaurant was also very good. The rooms were spacious and clean and comfortable.

It's a beautiful old hotel and even has a breakfast room - lovely. We were received kindly and everyone made sure we had everything we needed. Very clean and tidy. The hostess is amazing - she took us on a guided tour of the area and showed us the trains and the 1911 tunnel. We were there over the New Years long weekend and the hostess made sure we had meals and everything we needed. Will go back again for sure.

Mountain View Country Inn is exactly what one would expect from a country retreat. It doesn't have the glitz and glamor of the cosmopolitan inns, but they offer you (under difficult circumstances) a hot shower, a very comfortable bed, truly exceptional meals, and very pleasant, friendly, helpful and engaging staff.
I also loved the safe parking at the back. The customer service was good.
Staff were very friendly and dinner was excellent. Hotel is old and could perhaps be renovated/brightened up a bit. Tables outside on the stoep were full of dust but otherwise it was a pleasant experience.
The hotel is really old, still in good condition and the facilities are adequate. It would be even more realistic if the interior decorations were as old-fashioned. The dinner was excellent, with a concert projected on the wall. The breakfast was served in a cheerful room. I would have liked to see the museum room, but I did not ask and it was not offered. The view from the balcony is beautiful. Really value for money.

Don't expect fast food here. It's all laid back with no rush. Puts you in the right frame of mind starting out on holiday.
The owner came to sit with us during dinner and shared with us the history of the hotel and town. She did a lot of research and probably wrote all the brochures of the town and surroundings. We ventured up the Joubert Pass and it was truly worth it (with a small two wheel drive buggy!).
Lady Gray is an interesting and clean village in a beautiful setting and I would definitely recommend our stay at Mountain View Country Inn to anyone who wants to visit the village. The hotel has a special atmosphere and is very neat and clean. The restaurant served delicious meals. The owners are friendly and we were very well received.
The rooms were very neat and well equipped. The surroundings are beautiful and the village is small but interesting. The mountains that surround the town are beautiful and the environment is peaceful and quiet during the day as well as in the evening.
