20 guests' feedbackReally enjoyed sleeping over on MuggefonteinKaroo, sorry it was only for 1 night. Would love to visit again.
It was the perfect stopover for a bunch of friends on motorbikes.
The cottage was very neat and clean for us, the outside area is fenced off to separate it from the rest of the farm and farm animals, therefore our German shepherd dog could move around freely without us having to worry about her. The barbeque area had everything we needed and we barbequed every night, we arranged with Helana in advance to buy wood from them so we didn't have to drive it from far away. The braai area is also under roof and has enough chairs and seating for a nice visit. There is plenty of space for a fire and there is a sink next to the braai which I quite appreciate. There is also a splash pool which looked nice, but we didn't see a chance for it in the May cold. The house inside has all the basic necessities, microwave, stove, oven, fridge, freezer and there was enough warm bedding that no one got cold at night. There is also WiFi that reaches outside at the braai area. There were also some board games like Rummikub which we put to good use! We had a lovely walk and jog on the farm together with our dog who also really enjoyed swimming and playing in the pond. The area is typical Karoo and is picturesque, from the starry sky at night to the sunrise and sunset, all without the noise of the city. We had a great rest and Helena and Kobus were both very hospitable and friendly. We will definitely visit Muggefontein again!
The farm is nice and quiet, located in a beautiful part of the Karoo, the braai place is excellent, everything you need in the kitchen. Appreciated that they are doggy friendly.
Farm atmosphere gives calmness and tranquility, everything you need is there.
Nice farm atmosphere, peaceful.
From arrival to departure, all we got was friendly service and a nice visit on the farm.
Helena and Dinese received us kindly and made us feel welcome, made extra effort for our comfort, what a treat.
Hospitable and very comfortable with the best rusks in the country.
Nice, beautiful, safe area.
The splash pool is a winner - we barbecued and lounged around it. The house is tidy and has everything you need and the beds sleep wonderfully. We enjoyed it very much!
Very beautiful scenery and beautiful sunset and sunrise. You have to buy a Karoo rib and chops from the owner and grill them on the coals. Will definitely go there again.
Helena is an excellent hostess, her communication before and during our stay very good. The house is well and comfortably equipped. Evenings around the fire outside with a dining table were lovely. The farm is neatly maintained and there are nice routes to admire the beautiful nature and mountains that surround. We hope for rain to ease the crippling drought for the people there! I can highly recommend Helena's lamb meat packs and baked bread. The house is close to the main road, but with very little traffic and not a soul in sight for miles on end, we felt safe. It remains a huge bonus to be able to take our two dogs with us and know they are as welcome there as we are.
If you are looking for a secluded getaway, just a bit of silence, clean air and away from the everyday hustle and bustle and technology, Muggefontein is definitely the place.
It's a lovely road between Fraserburg and Leeu Gamka, and if silence and rock and mountains and endless space is your thing, Muggefontein is the ideal place. To me it was. Take a walk into the veld as soon as you have arrived. You will see a farm worker in the footpath. Ask him where you can get cellphone service. He will tell you it depends what one you are looking for. MTN? He will point you to a koppie on the other side. Walk up there, he will say. There is a brown JoJo tank; next to him you will get signal. But on the way there, you have to visit the kraalmuur and see how that stone is packed. Take your time, because you have to look at this for a long time. Oh, there is a small olive orchard, and in the kitchen there are bottles of olive oil that you can buy. Muggefontein olive oil.
Good reception, peaceful setting, comfortable, every need was met.
Perfect place to unwind and just reconnect with one's soul. Can't wait to go back again!
Even if the whole district was without power it was the best value for money. Excellent service and delicious grilled cake and lamb chops. Candlelight and Karoo oranges colored by grazing sheep. The highlight was the outdoor shower with delicious hot water. Indescribably delicious.
What an experience. We had to spend the night one night on our way to Cape Town. It exceeded all our expectations. The house is fully equipped with nothing missing. One can buy mutton chops from the owners to grill which are soft as a cloth. Will definitely stay there again, but this time for a little longer!
Over and over worth it.
