Comfortable, relaxed home atmosphere; huge fireplace, excellent food (best lamb stew I've had in years) and most accommodating hosts. Couldn't ask for more.

The room was beautifully appointed and the farm itself is tranquil and well positioned for an overnight stop. One improvement I would suggest is to have a small fridge in the room. Travellers will often have water or other refreshments that they want for their trip and being able to refrigerate these at night is useful.

New Holme immediately felt like home. The host received us warmly and we enjoyed wonderful company with him and the staff. They specially upgraded us to the beautiful log house, so we could work comfortably, with good WiFi. The dinner and breakfast were of excellent quality. The beautiful lodge has so much to offer and we would highly recommend it!
The facilities were clean, tidy, quiet and comfortable. The host was friendly and helpful upon arrival. I did not take any meals there and left very early again the next morning.

A few matters need attention. Payments I had to confirm later. No candles or matches despite load shedding. WiFi not working, even outside of load shedding.

What is happening at New Holme Nature Lodge in partnership with retired academics sets an example for each and every one of us, how we can turn our beautiful country around for the better from the grassroots level. Edu-tourism, eco-tourism and many more examples of what can be done are a credit to the owners.

We stayed two nights at New Holme in December 2022 on our way back to Midrand from Kagga Kamma. Beautiful peaceful surroundings. Delicious meals and good service. Highly recommended for overstay or even a few days packing.
I can't really comment. We got there late and left early again. The stay was pleasant and very peaceful. The hostess received us late and was very helpful and friendly.
The food was wonderful, and the hosts were welcoming, however, the bathroom in the main bedroom had a perpetual poo smell. Whatever we did, we could not get rid of the smell. I would recommend placing an extraction fan in that bathroom.
Great dinner. Room in very good condition. The kids loved the sheep and horses. Good stop after a long drive from Cape Town.

We stayed in the self catering log cabin. It's good as an option for overnight stay but I wouldn't stay longer than 1 night. We had bats in our roof and could hear them all night, probably hard to keep them out. Also a very strong smell in the one kitchen cupboard that stores the glasses. So didn't use the glassware. The air con in the lounge didn't work but they did work in the bedrooms which was a great relief. However I would actually go back there and still recommend as it's a great location, beautiful scenery, lovely pool and access to the restaurant and bar.
Driving into New Holme was like driving into an oasis of calm and beauty. The welcome was warm and friendly. Thank you for a great mid-way break on our long trip.

New Holme is part of the Karoo Gariep Private Conservancy and offers so much more than just an overnight destination. The first night we ate in the lodge - the food was absolutely 5 star and delicious. The second night on the way home it was a braai on the hill, very basic but food and view was "great".

The rooms are beautiful, spacious and comfortable and the bathroom was private and everything worked well. I wish we had more time to explore the place, do some wildlife viewing or go hiking. We will have to stay an extra day next time.
We only slept one night. The food was delicious - real farm food as well as a very fine starter. It's a case of the food is delicious and the buffet has a great variety - too much to taste everything. There was some problem with employees, as it seems the family themselves had to step in to help everyone. However, the service was still good. We had a great bird watching trip with PC - with quite a few "lifers". We would love to go back for the other special birds we missed last time.
Excellent food and a beautiful Karooplaas environment make everyone feel at home. Our family will not stay in another place again.

The rooms are tired and need re-modelling. One of our rooms also smelt like cat pee. The owners were very busy preparing the food for the evening (which was delicious) and although willing to assist with anything we wanted they had to be sought out on the premises which was a bit awkward.

A green oasis in the Karoo with lovely accommodation and friendly and interesting host and wife. The presentation of the meals, not included in price, is masterchef quality. And for the birders there are quite a few specials to see.

If you are looking for genuine South African hospitality, this is just the right place. Upon arrival you feel right at home and the visit only got better with each passing hour. From a manatee tour to the three course meal served you really couldn't ask for better. The owners go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible. You will see us again soon.

We had a really wonderful time. It was far more interesting than we expected - the family are involved in bringing hippos back to the area after they disappeared more than 200 years ago and it was fascinating to hear the story.

Lovely working farm, comfortable accommodation (log house). However, there was no dish soap or cloths and dishcloths available. Few stains on bedding. Enjoyed it a lot though and have great appreciation for the owners and their whole approach with the reserve and breeding program.
After the long drive we were able to relax wonderfully in the peaceful garden. Nice walk and was able to get close to the moose and other wildlife just by walking around the accommodation. I would like to give a thumbs up to the cook! The food was particularly exquisite, beautifully presented and extremely tasty.

Natural splendor and leafy green garden in the arid Karoo with neat stylish accommodation and host and hostess who make you feel welcome and make your stay one you will remember.

We stayed here for the first time 9 years ago and it was a nice experience again. A true Karoo guesthouse. It is very quiet at night and the sky is full of stars. PC (owner) received us and Mariska was the chef. The food is very good and the dining hall is typical Karoo-style. Hanover is in the middle between Gauteng and Cape Town and it is ideally situated for an overnight stop. PC takes his guests to look at the hippos and birds or on a game drive.
We slept in Stoffel Rus, the log house was comfortable with everything you need. We were received with hospitality, and immediately felt at home. It was something else to be able to see the moose on the farm up close, it created a peaceful atmosphere. The accommodation would have been more ideal if the wooden house had its own braai facilities.
The directions just need to be better indicated. We ended up on the wrong GPS coordinates in Hanover, which caused time to be lost. The rest all very nice.
Was unsure at first if the turning was the right one, but luckily after 1 km there was another sign showing New Holm 7 km. I was welcomed with open arms and since then the time just flew by too fast. Couldn't find the manatees but the bird life by the river made up for it. Annemie, you are truly a master cook! Hope to have the privilege again one day after it rains, to be able to go home there. Karoo Gariep Conservancy was one of the highlights of our trip to Cape Town. The food was excellent, the hosts incredibly accommodating and our kids loved the experience of living on a farm. It felt like home. The gardens are spectacular!

Apart from the one air conditioner that didn't work, it was a very pleasant place to spend the night. Food was top notch. One felt safe. Would recommend Karoo Gariep Conservancy anytime.

The farm is an oasis after the hot journey. The reception is friendly and welcoming. The yard, garden and trees are a refreshment for the soul. The rooms were spacious, convenient and tastefully furnished. The dinner is top notch. We would definitely like to stay there again. Though not necessary, we would have liked to have KykNet.
We really enjoyed our night in the Karoo Gariep Conservancy. The hippos were unfortunately a bit shy and only peeked at us a few times. The buffet barbecue with starter, main course and dessert was delicious and we pretty much feasted. Then there was the beautiful sunset that one could enjoy from the observation deck and the swimming pool to cool off in. The place really has character with a very friendly hostess and host. The stars in the Karoo dark night are so bright and feel so close it feels like you could pick a star. We also saw shooting stars. The Milky Way was the most beautiful beautiful. For breakfast a quick coffee and rusks together with tame guinea fowl tongues, petting a lamb and seeing a calf jump from sheer joy of life in the early morning freshness of the Karoo. It was really an experience that I will remember for a long time. The only downside is the dirt road you have to drive to get there, but in my opinion it is well worth it.
Lovely, convenient rooms with beautiful furniture, a nice swimming pool and fantastic dinner in the middle of nowhere. The deck to look at the stars is amazing. The directions to the place can be clearer - the turn off is on the left, 25 km on the N1 from Hanover to Colesberg. Then you still drive 8 km on a gravel road to get to the farm.

Nice and cool room, big and spacious for the 5 of us. The service fantastic and would definitely recommend. Mariska and PC were fantastic, welcomed us very warmly and did everything they could to make our stay better.
It was so lovely to be received so hospitably after a long day on the road. We were in the log house (self-catering unit). Everything you need was there. Dinner in the restaurant was fine, but the friendly reception gets the first prize!
A wonderful overnight stop with only silence and beautiful scenery. The dinner and breakfast are delicious Karoo food. Nice winter sheets with an electric blanket on a good mattress for the cold Karoo nights. We relaxed wonderfully and slept very well. Very impressed with the environmental conservation project on the farm.

We had a very nice stay and ate. All that was bad was that we had to drive again the next morning.
We had a wonderful overnight stay with them. Our children especially loved the hanslam and the dogs that run around there. You really switch off and it takes you back in time to when I was a kid. I would really recommend staying the night there. We will definitely be back!
It was a great overnight experience! So sorry we only stayed one night. The owners are very hospitable, friendly, put you at ease. The meals were wonderful, especially the traditional barbecue in the field on New Year's Eve. Will definitely make a stop again!
We just had trouble understanding the map and weren't sure which guest house we should drive to.
The children really enjoyed the overnight stay. Nicely swam, ate and slept. Very friendly reception and a nice peaceful atmosphere. Really recommended if you are heading to the Cape from Johannesburg/Pretoria or the North and want to rest a bit. I also think it could be very nice for longer holidays, especially if the young children like to play outside on a farm.
I travel all over the country in order to deliver vehicles for my wife. This is the BEST place that I have had the pleasure to stay at.
